My motto: Never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever ever *EVER* assist a passenger onto my bus for ANY reason. If they can’t get themselves on, or they ask me for assistance, I politely refuse and tell them they’re gonna need to call paratransit. Then I press “ADA Pass-up” on my touchscreen, tell dispatch the situation, and then move on with my day. Nice gesture by the bus op here. He gets an A for effort from me… however, I’m not that nice. My job is to operate the bus and that’s it. I don’t touch my passengers, and they don’t touch me, and we all get along.

I don’t share that sentiment with you. I too am a bus driver. I don’t care what policy I offend. We ought to help one another in life. I never got in trouble, if not the opposite. I met a passenger I helped who offered me to stay for free in her Mexican mansion. I did not take the offer, but you make more friends with honey , than with vinegar.

My hubsand is a transit bus operator and he is learning sign language so he could communicate with passengers that can't hear and he would definitely add that in his resume for other jobs in the future. I'm also deaf myself and I'm also teaching him too. We're so excited that we're having a newborn child soon. Thank you so much for showing the good and positive in transit employees. Here in Germany, the buses usually have the wheelchair ramp in the rear door (or middle if there are three), and they are manually operated. Often times bus drivers don't even get up, but expect other passengers to flip the ramp out and back in.
So carrying anybody is not gonna happen, period. And I agree that in case of a rapid evacuation of the bus, everything that works is an option. I'm sure that even if anyone complained about harassment in such a situation, it would fall through if it obviously was necessary to save the person's life.

Interesting, I am with the airlines. Most of the time the wheelchair is too wide to fit down the aisle of the airplane so we are required to transfer the passenger to a smaller wheelchair than can fit down the aisle then transfer them to their seat. In these cases we have to lift the passenger. Yes at times we do deal with very heavy passengers but we are still required to lift them t the aisle chair then to the aircraft seat. On arriving passengers its the reverse.

So why is the dog riding? 2. If the ramp does not work by the button, we were trained on pulling it out manually. 3. One time few years ago on Car Free Day, I was riding on n72 bus from Farmingdale to Hempstead on busy Hempstead Turnpike and female B/O almost miss wheelchair passenger on bus stop bc of trailer truck blocking view. After that, she honk to get to bus stop. When I saw wheelchair passenger, I helped b/o lift wheelchair seat. She was new driver that didn't know how to secure wheelchair. Wheelchair passenger secure himself. She only knew how to ride operate ramp.

This can go both ways but mostly NO.
    1. They say its OK to go above and beyond for a customer. Now if you did your pre-trip or you relieved the previous driver then you have to do the wheelchair ramp manually and request to have the bus changed off somewhere along the route or at a layover.
    2. For the negative. This is a completely liability situation for you, the passenger and the company. You carry a passenger and something happens, its all on the driver. But lets say you get the person safely in the seat OK. Now you get the wheelchair on something comes off or breaks, it's all on the driver.

Thanks for sharing and covering with such a detailed analysis. I have a few thoughts as well after watching. Aside from the obviously available ramp in the doorway, complete with a strap to manually pull it out if needed, this looks clearly staged in a few ways:
    - The bus interior shows this is a late 90s Gillig Low Floor, highly likely retired from use in a transit fleet and being rented or used as a prop for this.
    - The uniform looks very store bought, no logos, emblems, and no ID badge.
    - Why would any bus operator stop that far away from the curb if they knew they were going to be carrying someone on 😆
I'm assuming this was put together as yet more fake fuzzy-feely good clickbait to feed daddy algorithm on the Facebook/Tok/Insta whatever.

If the ramp/bus frame breaks (collapses) while loading a wheelchair, You call dispatch and have a route supervisor come out and let them figure out how to get the person in the wheelchair safely off the bus (ask me about this one).

In the 90s I know that in my city there have been some bus drivers that have been alone with their female passengers and took their female passengers and popped their cherry on the back seat. I wonder how many bus drivers around the country have done this before how many get caught and how many have gotten away with this? I know that in the 90s I know that the camera system was different from today. In the 90s there was a disk that spun and once the reader reached the end it would record over itself as long as the emergency button hadn't been pressed which would capture anything a few minutes before and after the button was pressed.

I was on an AC Transit bus when the ramp failed to deploy. Instead of the driver getting out the seat to manually deploy the ramp, he decided to take the bus out of service and call a supervisor and medical for help to get the rider in the wheelchair off the bus. I went to the front and offered to deploy the ramp myself, driver told me not to touch the ramp and the man needed to wait even though he was trying to transfer to another bus in a few minutes. I have no idea what AC Transit policy is on failed ramp deployments, but every other bus agency in the Bay Area have showed me how to manually deploy the ramp. It's really not that hard and I never took a bus out of service for a failed ramp deployment. If you can bend down to put the wheelchair restrains on and off, then you can bend down, hit the latch for the ramp and push it out/back in. That ramp can be fixed after the bus returns to the yard, but to cancel a schedule over that.... crazy.
