I'm not even a bus driver anymore but it gets zero respect on my resume at interviews. I saw on Oprah years ago that bus drivers, trash truck and something else are the least respected jobs. Probably maids. I greatly respect anyone who keeps the planet clean any day over a lazy overpaid person in a highly respected job. It's way past time to change that!!
Some of my friends that drove buses up here in Cleveland left the GCRTA and got a job doing something else and I'm happy for them. I used to been a former police officer but I found a better job doing something better.
@@willpompe6612 Never? That's quite sad. I always try to thank the driver, although sometimes I forget. Thank you for providing an important mode of transit to many though!
I often have to remind passengers that if they have a complaint or gripe, go to the company's website or call the company directly and make their voices heard. I even provide the website or phone number for them. Complaining to me won't make a difference. I'm not going to do your homework for you. As soon as get back to the yard, I'm gone. Complaining to me is like complaining to the person running the register at a department store about the prices.
Bus driver needs to eat. One of my Bus Stops in front of a Restaurant. So it’s a win win. No different if I get food or use the restroom. The clip where the lady said she was going to drive happened to me last Wednesday. Young girl was stressed out and I had a 15 min layover. She refused to sit or stand behind the yellow line and continued to stand by the front door. I had to involve the Police unfortunately.
Thank you! Your videos have been extremely insightful! I have a new found respect and appreciation for your or should I say our occupation! And also for your content! I’m located in MN so the fun is only beginning!
Bus drivers always get disrespect on the job like we're not human beings at all. I drive CTA buses from North Park Garage. I had to leave from the 74th southside garages. I get a diverse group on my bus routes.
Sacramento has some kind of Bus Rapid Transit plan where one of the things to be included was bus only lanes, that should help with people in cars not honking their horns at you. Plus with faster busses, less people hopefully will be driving cars so less road rage all together.
Your videos have reminded me to be patient with people doing their job, not just bus drivers but all folks dealing with the public. Working with the public is difficult under the best of circumstances, much less when things are going poorly. Thanks to all our fellow citizens trying to help us.
A few of my coworkers grabbed them some food in the middle of the route so they used the bathroom stop to do it when it was just one route and they hid the food in their small bookbag so the camera doesn't catch them doing it but luckily it was no passengers on there. I appreciate the person speaking to the passengers on the bus about the shortage problems.
Thanks for the message! I had this one instance where we had to stop for almost an hour on the bus (it wasn’t even a layover) but the driver kept repeatedly asking for a passenger to get off because he was smoking on the bus. He was sleeping on the ride, and the passenger had headphones on. After 40 minutes however he finally realized the bus was stopped, and asked the driver why it wasn’t moving. He got into an argument with the bus driver and finally was kicked off. During the time, since we were stopped soooooo long some of the passengers got off because they didn’t have the patience. However finally after the passenger was kicked off, we were able to continue our journey. Thank you to all the bus drivers who make the safe journey and tolerate the patience and have to deal with crazy passengers
The union rep ain't wrong. Transit companies have done a masterful job. Its unfortunate that they view the customer higher than the drivers who service their customers. I'd like to see management do our jobs. I don't know what its like at your company but none of them have ever done the job and have all come from managerial roles from other companies.
I remember back in 2016 when the ceo of our company started and she came in. I asked her to take a call when it comes in she said no. It really offended me because what that told me was that she felt too high that our job was shit to her. I never respected her from that moment and often remind her if this when I see her.
Yeah the Union Rep never cared about the bus drivers at all when we're the ones putting our lives on the line by getting people to their location safe and sound.
I am a public transportation advocate and locomotive engineer for a passenger railroad. I want all transit systems improved but taking out your anger on the employees is not the way. Take it out on your government, they have the power to improve things.
Had it yesterday, homie jay walked across 4 lanes to get the bus … he proceeded to tell me he is from Philly, and they fight to the death, blah blah…all I said was that bro that isn’t safe… I’m a grown man.. blah blah .. it has just gotten worse since Covid.
Envious of the speed of your ADA ramps, I drive for Muni in SF and the ramps on our New Flyers take FOREVER. Great video as usual! Appreciate what you do
When I got a complaint about the service and the fare I told the woman to call the Transit Commissioner and gave her his name and address. She CALLED when he was having dinner at home and spoiled it for him. He was NOT happy. An hour later an inspector came to see me...he tried to be serious but it was all he could do to keep from laughing...he couldn't believe I told her to call him. I explained I can't change anything for her she needed to go to the top.
I messed up today. I pulled out of the yard with the wrong bus. My pull out ticket said coach 1554 in S-59 and I accidentally grabbed 1544 in S-69. I wanted to hide my face when 3 hours later I heard on the radio "Ahhh, dispatch block 1423, I can't find coach 1544" I'm like Oops.
*HUGE* shout out to my man @2:29 . Up here in Portland, there is no way our transit agency would have allowed him to come on and do that, because it might hurt passengers' feelings. As for the woman @3:55 , that's when I plug my ears and sing "Deck The Halls." 🎶 *Fa la la la, LALALALALALALALALALALALALALA* 🎶 (seriously, I have done that, and it works). It's not rude enough to get a complaint over, but just annoying enough for the person to finally give up and realize I'm the bigger butthole. Then with the motorist honking at you because you're pulled over, servicing a bus stop with the ramp pulled out. I've had that happen to me on more than one occasion. I understand their frustration, but at the same time, the Bus Op is there doing a job, and they need to understand that. They won't though. That's when I go to my touchscreen and hit *"Mechanical Tied Up,"* or *"Restroom Delay,"* and we stay put until the honking resolves itself (again, bigger butthole). 👌🏻
0:19 this is why i loved doing demand response services for public transit.. can stop somewhere when i dont got any pickups and go get me a hot dog.. and a cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeese burger.. and taaaaaaaaaaater chips.. and sodie pop.. and a cupcake And of course sit in the back of the bus and watch youtube or play megaman or something
Last year, I was hurt in an e-scooter accident. Long story short, a food delivery guy was gunning it down the sidewalk as they do, and nailed me. This resulted in me having a limp for a few weeks. Multiple times during those few weeks, I was cussed out by bus drivers for "being too slow" to board. Every time, I would calmly explain that I had injured myself and they would usually apologize - with the exception of this one bus driver who commented that I deserved it for holding him up. I shouldn't have experience being cussed out for not being able bodied. The drivers who got on my case and apologized were one thing, but the driver who doubled down? Great customer service. Everyone was reported. I respect bus drivers, and try to say thanks whenever I step off, but please, respect the passengers as well
In New York City, either buses break at the depot or in some cases end of a route near but not at the bus stop. Not sure if it is a difference of laws, regulations, etc., just saying what I have seen them do. Some routes they cannot park at the stop for breaks due to how busy streets are plus some stops are for more than one line.

I’ve been wondering this ( it has nothing to do with the video). Why would a city’s buses stop running so early? I’m going to Niagara Falls Canada and their busses stop running at like 6:30-7pm. I’m in a wheelchair and plan on using the bus as my main transportation while I’m there. Guess I would have to wheel back to my hotel now then
In Lakeland, our last bus leaves the terminal at 6:15 and the last arrivals come in around 7:30. Most lines have nobody or almost nobody riding on that last trip.
I’ve seen AC Transit drivers pull over not even at their designated “relief” points(12th St. Oakland BART as an example) to pick up food from say, a taco truck or a stand by the lake. It’s bad now that road diets are a thing. I’ve seen near misses between buses and cars lately. But also, y’all have a thankless job and a bus isn’t to be taken lightly. I give y’all room on the road when I’m driving or riding my bike, and when I’m riding the bus, respect when I’m on board. A bus doesn’t have airbags and seatbelts for its passengers and in case a car and bus have a chance meeting, the laws of physics says the bus will win.
Are buses have a machine saying move down inside the bus use every seat to make more people get on and our drivers are drivers are not like that if cannot get on they put hand and say no 😮so they wait for next unless anyone get off same cant help stopping anywhere

I also did same on 5:40pm greyhound return trip and bus driver refuse but they said thank you anyway,
