best support battleship, you got a downgrade conquest with lower speed, armor, shield and mobility while only cost you like a single eagle the only problem with atlas mk2 was you need strong Frontline otherwise you got reck by enemy flanking
@@seasalt1164 When I first took a bounty with multiple Atlas II's I thought, hey, it's just a Cargo ship and was contemptuous of the threat factor, ended up getting my flagship blown up by missile swarms. Those things can really send a lot of firepower downrange, despite their relative fragility.

Weird thing for the atlass mk2, but its really good for the super late game shenanigan. Basically, its super cheap to make at a drydock/shipyard and you can load it out with long range ballistics. Allowing you to make a HUGE long rang firing line. A strat I call the "dirty redcoats" sense they both fire in a line together and have about as much survivability as a british solder in one of those musket firing lines. With a super lategame "I will destroy the entire hegemony" type invasion I made over 40 of them in one fleet and only 11 of them survived by the time the game crashed. It was VERY fun. I recommend.
Its funny ahahah i was just thinking about assassin's creed 3 where connor just went in those redcoats firing line and massacre them with ease , now imagine connor a phase ship and those redcoats are the mk2 atlass, a big reference ahah

As with everything pirate, they are discount versions of their counterparts, but often times that’s exactly what you want. The Atlas Mk.II is more like a heavy support cruiser than a capital. Compared to an Apoge on DP, this is almost twice the firepower for only 6 extra DP
@@KageRyuu6 I classify the pirate Falcon as a "superheavy destroyer" more-so than light cruiser. It fulfils the role of destroyers--a frigate fleet leader--better than pretty much all destroyers do, and for not that much more in terms of supply cost. I mean, the Falcon pretty much already does that, but it doesn't do it well enough to justify the increased cost and maintenance and the lack of destroyer, and the Falcon doesn't have the staying power to justify it being a destroyer-fleet leader like cruisers are meant to be. I personally don't use the Falcon, at all. I think it doesn't really fill a niche in my fleets; but the pirate Falcon, if you get your hands on one, is bloody brilliant, and I think a lot of people sleep on the pirate Falcon because the Falcon itself is kinda... C-tier.

If you want your slow capitals to make it to the front line at the same time as your other ships, why not deploy them first, then add the rest a bit later so they catch up at the right time? Sure you'll lose the relays, but it could be worth it since you're likely to heavily damage their vanguard with your increased fire power.

when i saw the atlas mk2 got a burn level increase i IMMEDIATELY pegged it as a great support ship. the only problem i saw with it was the burn level, otherwise it's a really weapons platform for the DP.
There was one guy who built a fleet around a Onslaught built for tanking damage and drawing fire, while five Atlas Mk.2's shelled the distracted enemy.

yeah once i saw that I was like damn, we need more ships like this. Like sure we have a bunch of converted freighters but none of them seem all that great, just cheaper and more widely available frigs. What about a converted fuel ship where the cap is removed and they fit a massive spinal mount in there, or one thats uparmored and just has 50 million small balistic mounts to just slap on tons of pd. My favorite ships in the game are the atlas 2 and the starter converted freighter with a drone bay, because they actually feel unique, i wish we had more like that than just slow frigs and fragile destroyers.

I was actually very pleasantly surprised by how good the atlas mk2 was with the skill that buffs civilian ships with militarized subsystems. It gets massive bonuses if it's the only applicable ship in your fleet. EDIT: Haven't played in a while so didn't know that skill's gone. Rest in pieces mega atlas, I will always remember you as based.
It's gone, but i think the atlas got buffed along with the prometheus so they're still capable. 24dp for 2 large missiles and capital ship level ITU is a steal.

Eagles and dominators are good, but the damage potential of 2 large missiles and 2 large ballistics with rapid ammo feeders and capital range is quite something. Ironically for a ship that's supposed to be a piece of flying civilian debris with guns, it might be the most specialized combat ship in the game.
Still based with Top level leadership, optional Top level Industry to allow officerless, optionally D-ship ship to be fielded with less DP used(wider firecoverage by more Mk2s).

I tried this with 2 shieldbuster missiles and 2 long range gauss weapons to make it a sniper rifle basically. The problem is the AI gets too close, so you need a good pilot or good commands. Also I stripped the shields and added armor instead because the shield stats suck and use up all the flux that the weapons should be using.
@rexsupreme1840 In theory yes, but it's a very boring ship to play, and the AI doesn't do terrible as long as you don't put an overly aggressive pilot in charge. Also, they suck against small ships, so you gotta escort them, but that's kinda usual for most large ships.
one of my firsts playthough i explore space for goodies and find a blueprint of... Paragon. And it buildcost was only 500.000. So in few mounths i just build a entire fleet with Paragons and one fuel tanker. Tactics? Logistics? Enemy outnumbered us? Doesn't look like a problem to me and my fucking flying fortresses
There was an AI tourney where an atlas mk ii with I think Gauss cannons and Hurricanes did pretty well. I might be misremembering, but it was at least an interesting build granted though, it also had gunnery control ai and shield bypass, the latter important for stopping the AI from overfluxing itself. But it was pretty impressive, more than mudskipper mk ii XD
one of my favorite ships is the Doom phaseship, with that i can go killer queen and is fun to use.and it can make opening for the others ships to attack.
Atlas Mk.II is decent support to something like a Dominator. The amount of firepower you can bring with the two is pretty good and you have a way to maintain the line.
honestly a great portrayal of what the Mk2 Atlas really is a civillian ship frame, with civillian grade lifesupport, engines, etc. with as many guns possible mounted on top a glass cannon

It's nore terrifying when you add Galvinic howitzer from kyeltziv mod to replace the front row ballistic. Why? Because the weapon projectile able to move pass friendly ships so the support battleship has more use
omg seeing your fleet with just barely flying junk made me, someone who will execute any officer that DARES come back from a fight with a single scratch on the hull executed, really really TRIGGERED.
Those things can be brought down to 12dp each, when you field 15 and some monitors, everything just up and dies. If you can support 150 fuel/light-year that is.
Atlas mk II is easily one of my favourite ships because it's very cheap to deploy and you get 4 large weappn slots and so very long range support for your destroyers. Low cost and big bang. And it does indeed look cooler.
You can have your line arrive more together if you have your smaller ships escort the capitals at least until you get to the middle. Have destroyers with frigate escort take the 2 close points.

You can deploy your large and slow ships first, place your guard order a bit back, then deploy the faster ships behind. This way everything gets to the fight at the same time
Gonna need some brawlers because from experience, a well-placed tachyon lance or two can and will rip through their hull like a 1000° knife through jelly.
If you stuck two Gauss on the front you could make it be even better than a Conq technically, thanks to the accelerated ammo feed. The Vulcs should be enough for any incidental PD needs, so you don't really need the devastator.
Atlas is designed for missile fire support, not for direct combat unlike onslaught and paragon that designed to take punishment and build it with tank build. Its a good starter ship, but theres a better option for missile fire support, gryphon for example
I toyed around with Atlas Mk2's a lot to try and make something that works, but honestly there are just too many better alternatives. They aren't survivable at all in AI hands. Keeping an Atlas Mk2 safe requires either too expensive a defensive force (compared to alternatives) or a human to keep track of the flow of the battle in order to advance safely and back off BEFORE things go bad. The only decent use I got out of them was as a player piloted Gauss Cannon support ship fitted out for optimum active flux venting (with Hurricanes of course), or as a mediocre disposable AI support ship for anything up to cruiser size with 2x Mark IXs, 1x Hurricane and 1x Locust, best paired with fighter carriers. All other capitals are just so much better. They're worth the extra DP. AtlasMK2 is basically just a cruiser sized weapon platform that trades everything in exchange for more firepower. Which sounds great, but securing kills is about far more than just firepower.
The conquest wont fold in half at the first glance of the enemy unlike the atlas because it isn't made out of paper. Sure you can stick guns on this floating heap of trash but the moment you get flanked is the moment you deploy another ship.
I’m a bit late to the party, but getting flanked doesn’t seem like an issue with this fleet setup. The enemy is gonna get swarmed so hard by your armada of little ships that being able to flank you will be the least of their concerns.
Hullmod Barratry, I downloaded it to add "d-mods" to my ships that makes them cheaper to run. Also, Automated Commands to make the ships retreat on their own instead of dying somewhere
Combat got a learning curve. It's a mix between managing your own ship and ordering your fleet around. Once you get a hang of it though it's very fun. Other things like economics and ship customizations are pretty easy to understand. Give it a try!

Except for the Pirate Falcon, that's basically just a straight upgrade.
Pirate falcon is like the best cruiser in the game and in no way a discount falcon it has free built-ins and way better options for all slots.

If you need a fast Capital Odyssey will take you places, and also bump smaller ships to the other side of the galaxy.

Paragon with Tachyon Lances means no need to worry about being in the front line. A Paragon will snipe everything into oblivion.

MIRV variant is surprisingly good. My frontline is based mostly on junk vessels like overdriven Prometeus Mk. II and overdriven (Pirate) Erradicators.

Hullmod Barratry, I downloaded it to add "d-mods" to my ships that makes them cheaper to run. Also, Automated Commands to make the ships retreat on their own instead of dying somewhere
A few buffalo mk2 and atlas mk2 makes some fun missile support for whatever your Frontline is.

If you strap hurricane MIRV's on anything it's instantly a "good ship" because they're broken. Missiles of all kinds make the game easy mode

Combat got a learning curve. It's a mix between managing your own ship and ordering your fleet around. Once you get a hang of it though it's very fun. Other things like economics and ship customizations are pretty easy to understand. Give it a try!

@@mashedpotato8607 First thing you do when booting up the game: go to the settings and check the box that says "invert shift key." Trust me, it'll save you tons of frustration.

yeah dude Morrokain modded it in archean order to be a little better but it's still only good for missiles. ain't a bad hull tank tho. bummer
