    Weird thing for the atlass mk2, but its really good for the super late game shenanigan.
    Basically, its super cheap to make at a drydock/shipyard and you can load it out with long range ballistics. Allowing you to make a HUGE long rang firing line. A strat I call the "dirty redcoats" sense they both fire in a line together and have about as much survivability as a british solder in one of those musket firing lines.
    With a super lategame "I will destroy the entire hegemony" type invasion I made over 40 of them in one fleet and only 11 of them survived by the time the game crashed.
    It was VERY fun. I recommend.

    As with everything pirate, they are discount versions of their counterparts, but often times that’s exactly what you want. The Atlas Mk.II is more like a heavy support cruiser than a capital. Compared to an Apoge on DP, this is almost twice the firepower for only 6 extra DP

    • @KageRyuu6
      @KageRyuu6 2 роки тому +17

      Except for the Pirate Falcon, that's basically just a straight upgrade.

    • @saltiney8578

      Pirate falcon is like the best cruiser in the game and in no way a discount falcon it has free built-ins and way better options for all slots.

    • @Crazymoniker
      @Crazymoniker 2 роки тому +8

      @@KageRyuu6 I classify the pirate Falcon as a "superheavy destroyer" more-so than light cruiser. It fulfils the role of destroyers--a frigate fleet leader--better than pretty much all destroyers do, and for not that much more in terms of supply cost. I mean, the Falcon pretty much already does that, but it doesn't do it well enough to justify the increased cost and maintenance and the lack of destroyer, and the Falcon doesn't have the staying power to justify it being a destroyer-fleet leader like cruisers are meant to be.
      I personally don't use the Falcon, at all. I think it doesn't really fill a niche in my fleets; but the pirate Falcon, if you get your hands on one, is bloody brilliant, and I think a lot of people sleep on the pirate Falcon because the Falcon itself is kinda... C-tier.

    If you want your slow capitals to make it to the front line at the same time as your other ships, why not deploy them first, then add the rest a bit later so they catch up at the right time?
    Sure you'll lose the relays, but it could be worth it since you're likely to heavily damage their vanguard with your increased fire power.

      yeah once i saw that I was like damn, we need more ships like this. Like sure we have a bunch of converted freighters but none of them seem all that great, just cheaper and more widely available frigs. What about a converted fuel ship where the cap is removed and they fit a massive spinal mount in there, or one thats uparmored and just has 50 million small balistic mounts to just slap on tons of pd.
      My favorite ships in the game are the atlas 2 and the starter converted freighter with a drone bay, because they actually feel unique, i wish we had more like that than just slow frigs and fragile destroyers.

      @@nttea Yeah, and it's not like the atlas has ever really been a bad ship, it's just bad when compared to other capitals. Eagles and dominators are good, but the damage potential of 2 large missiles and 2 large ballistics with rapid ammo feeders and capital range is quite something.
      Ironically for a ship that's supposed to be a piece of flying civilian debris with guns, it might be the most specialized combat ship in the game.

    I tried this with 2 shieldbuster missiles and 2 long range gauss weapons to make it a sniper rifle basically. The problem is the AI gets too close, so you need a good pilot or good commands.

    I toyed around with Atlas Mk2's a lot to try and make something that works, but honestly there are just too many better alternatives. They aren't survivable at all in AI hands. Keeping an Atlas Mk2 safe requires either too expensive a defensive force (compared to alternatives) or a human to keep track of the flow of the battle in order to advance safely and back off BEFORE things go bad.
    The only decent use I got out of them was as a player piloted Gauss Cannon support ship fitted out for optimum active flux venting (with Hurricanes of course), or as a mediocre disposable AI support ship for anything up to cruiser size with 2x Mark IXs, 1x Hurricane and 1x Locust, best paired with fighter carriers.
    All other capitals are just so much better. They're worth the extra DP. AtlasMK2 is basically just a cruiser sized weapon platform that trades everything in exchange for more firepower. Which sounds great, but securing kills is about far more than just firepower.
