I have literally never wanted a new vehicle more than this. The previous time I said that was the new Supra. Toyota has been knocking it out of the park. I can't wait for the new 4Runner
The TX and GX are completely different vehicles with different missions. The TX is a comfortable family hauler, cross-over. The GX is a true SUV with more capabilities than the TX. For example, 3500lb vs 9000lb of towing. Does your family have a boat or camper? Do you ever wonder off pavement? These are some of the essential questions a buyer should ask. A better comparison of the GX would be against other body on frame SUVs.
I buy a Lexus for the luxury, not for the over trail. Clearly you don’t like this vehicle, there are people out there that like body and frame vehicles. Not everyone is looking for a family friendly SUV.

@Kslsls227 Ok, but you stated that it competes with the G Wagon and RR. Which would still be incorrect. It doesn't even compete with a Defender in off road capabilites. Another thing for 83k you could out spec the GX 6 cylinder Defender. It wouldn't be fair to match it against a V8 Defender
Agree, with both of you. The GX was never and still isn’t a family vehicle, 4 people max. I also don’t think it’s on par with a RR, BUT I do think it is fair competition for the Defender. JLR product reliability seems to be more hit or miss than Lexus ( I only say that b/c I have owned a JLR , and I was one of the unhappy customers) That being said the defender is nice to look at on the outside and does really well off road, the interior is VERY bland, the 550 also has a bold exterior and the interior is also very nice. Great review. $64K as a starting price with a mediocre 6.5 second 0-60 time is not impressive. Nor is the obviously lackluster 2nd row leg room. MPG isn't anything great either. This isn't the no-brainer purchase I thought it would be when the new GX was first revealed. Meh.
Hmm..a body on frame, off-road oriented SUV with durable materials, made to tow a sh*t ton somehow doesn’t handle like a sports car, nor is as smooth, quiet, and fuel efficient as a unibody cross-over? Maybe you’re looking at the wrong truck to begin with? 😅😅 There’s a reason why TX and RX are also in the lineup. Well produced review though.
Love the look of GX600/300 series. Sadly in US I cannot purchase one. I'm in construction sales and cannot drive a Lexus on a job site. My landcruiser 200 is going to have last
The power options are too dated and slow imo to be considered luxury, they operate more like disability assistance tools. I'm in line for the OT, but I may hold off for the hybrid or the new 4runner redesign the more I think about it. If I am going to pay $50-80k cash for a vehicle, I need to feel like the value is there for the luxury. There's so much cost cutting with the lack of buttons, knobs, and dash. It doesn't feel like a fair deal, just "this is where the name sits in the price bracket, you pay this because we like arbitrary things".
3:50 True, but the TX looks like a total baby buggy. It looks like a women would drive it with kids in toe. If that's you then great. If your a MAN like me, i don't want that. I don't need that. I like rugged because I enjoy going off road, to camp and explore. Typical manly things. I have to stress that because of today's mentality but its true for me and many other men. Who actually are men. Its a stereotype but like most stereotypes they hold true for the most part. If you want comfort and quiet then yes go w/ a TX if you like the look and want capability go w/ the GX. Simple as that.
That Luxury trim is ridiculous, I assume to target the G wagon poser customer. The vast majority of sales will be the Premium trims where you get a better blend of comfort, towing, and soft roading at a pretty reasonable price.
Go tap your finger on the hood and see how thin and flimsy it is. Then drive the black one and watch the hood flutter in the wind stream making for interesting reflections. Junk

Waiting for the hybrid. 17mpg avg and a hwy range of 420 is unacceptable!!!
Not as upscale or refined as I would like..
TX is too damn practical looking like a Subaru this GX is so much more fun
At that price, does the Sequoia or CX90 enter the conversation
My point was is that I would approximate 75% of GX customers don’t need those exact credentials you mentioned. They would be better off with the TX.
@@stevehammes For sure. The gx does sound more like a niche suv.
ITS NOT A LEXUS, ITS A TOYOTA WITH A LEXUS BADGE. LOOK AT THE INTERIOR
Too bad the TX looks like a minivan. GX Overtrail it is.
Love the look of GX600/300 series. Sadly in US I cannot purchase one. I'm in construction sales and cannot drive a Lexus on a job site. My landcruiser 200 is going to have last
Bahahahahahahahaha🤡🤡🤡
I dunno, it looks like an upgraded FJ Cruiser to me
Tx is for the not so tough dads, more suited to the soccer moms.
From looks alone I would skip the tx even if I spent my days mall crawling.
It's almost like a Lexus Defender/G-Wagon! LOL
It's lacking on luxury and the Defender has better off road capabilities.
True!
Losing interest in the new GX; it’s a no luxury luxury+ in my view. It’s a truck. Lots of better options out there.
Why does it have to have such poor fuel economy 😮
Twin turbo V6 GX vs wimpy plugin hybrid TX…. You can keep your phony minivan TX. Give me the fun to drive GX.
Wish I would've saw this before I got my Luxury Plus trim - Super disappointed with it
Only 83K.
The TX looks like a van
GV80 is a great choice and much better value than GX. I bought the first 2021 GV80 build and very reluctant to let it go.
Completely different capabilities for those who purchase the GX550 with the full use-case in mind.
Go tap your finger on the hood and see how thin and flimsy it is. Then drive the black one and watch the hood flutter in the wind stream making for interesting reflections. Junk
Good and Reliable car and great customer service at Lexus..Ugly looking rim, shift lever and definitely not the 20s..I am torn between the Lexus and The New LC. TX looks like a nice van and will be the approach other manufacturers take to make their Vans more appealing
Yea the running boards are weirdly slow
those GIANT wagon wheels on that GX are terrible.
I can't get either a GX550 overtrail or a TX hybrid with 7 seats for my larger family?! What a complete miss by lexus. Boo.
It's an engine, not motor.
Oh, no...one of these 🙄
yeah, i just wanted a poser, and i see i can't justify not getting the TX plug-in hybrid....
This guy clearly preferred crossover not SUV.
You shouldn’t review a real SUV in the first place.
almost...but no V8
Sorry, the Lexus TX grille looks atrocious. DOA as far as I'm concerned!
