"Why do you have to make everything so hyperpolitical? It doesn't have to be like that."
Making everything hyperpolitical is the entire point. So if (when) anyone criticizes the show, they can be dismissed, shamed and vilified as objecting to the show's politics rather than as objecting to its quality.
Exactly 👍🏼
One thing that also sucks is that Velma’s VA admitted to sexually assaulting a costar and played it off as a joke.
And has yet to see any repercussions for it. She is a garbage human.
Not just that but she threatened to fire him if he said anything
The term, _"subverting expectations,"_ is often claimed by a studio or someone attached to a show. I believe it's often seen as a _get-out-of-jail-free_ card when something is disliked by the audience.
No. Some creations actually subvert expectations because they are trying do something different or from a new pov.
Some people just make shit and use it as an excuse after.
You can tell the difference if you watched enough film and tv
Yes. Rian Johnson wanted to “subvert expectations” when he did “The Last Jedi.” And with that he pretty much ruined the Star Wars franchise. He destroyed the mysteries set up by Abrams in the first one and pretty much destroyed the eight one in two ways. The first was with original director, Colin Trevorrow was in the middle of writing the third but then because of what happened in the second he couldn’t tell the story he wanted to tell. So he’s gone. Abrams comes back and tries yo walk everything back that Johnson did and it was still an utter failure.
@@Clownboy15 ahhh so you are one of "those" people.
@@Clownboy15 Yep. Pretty well summed up. It's kind of amazing that the franchise managed to recover from that in any way.
It's kind of funny how some people think "subverting expectations" is inherently a good thing. Even though purposefully disappointing the audience is technically doing the same.
As for why he keeps mentioning the race-swap with Velma. It's because it is a self-insert. The character isn't Velma, it's Mindy.
No, he keeps mentioning the race-swap because he's the kind of guy that just loves going on and on about raceswaps, judging by some of his other content.
Yyyyyyyup.
Well duh.. nat said this in the video. Must you repeat what she said back to her.. not that she ever gonna read it? Ya dumbarse
@@Carabas72 and also the race swap was just to do it and no other meaning behind it.
@@TheAOTSdude Which makes you cry a lot, does it not?
I love that all of the reactions are just “what’s so bad about that?… OH THATS WHATS WRONG WITH THAT!!!”
I'm kinda glad you didn't jump on the bandwagon and watch this show along with everyone else. I like the meta-nature of you reacting to a reaction.
I sorta laughed at :'I hope this doesn't lead to....' when this is just the latest in a whole string from Startrek and Starwars to Batman and Dr. Who.
The original Scooby-Doo (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You?) ran from 1969-1985. It was a kid's Saturday Morning cartoon.....ergo Shaggy was not "known for" use of marijuana as far as kids were concerned. It seems they did a lot of retconning with the characters in the 2000s.
this maybe the first time nat uploads on her main and this channel at the same day, I’m here for it!
Another big shame is that some great animation talent is wasted on this show. The animation is very well done it just sucks that it's for this show and not something actually good or worth watching.
I havent seen the show, but every time i hear about it i just think "why is this even a scooby-doo show?"
shower scene was pretty weird, 15? oki, so you can go to jail watching this in some countries lol
It does matter when they don’t respect a source material when you have to re-swap the Character theyhave original characters they can’t do original things that’s why they do that They’re too lazy to do anything original
3:56 - Oh yeah, did we forget to tell you? Scooby Doo is NOT in the show.
The inexplicable part is Kaling blatantly inserting herself into the show as an unironically awful person. Its evidence that they're genuinely unaware of what they've made.
For me as a black man I don’t like race swapping because I feel like it’s lazy, it feels like they’re just giving us sloppy seconds, and there are so many wonderfully written characters of color and I want to see their stories in other media
As a black person I understand why race swapping is done and I don't mind it. TV/Movie producers are risk averse and will take every opportunity they can get to not only reach the largest audience but to also generate interest through name recognition.
This is why you have things like a black Johnny Storm in Fantastic Four because a diverse cast will have a higher chance of getting a large audience and an established franchise has a higher chance of being successful overall.
Would it be great if there were original black characters created for media. Sure. Who's paying for it? Will it have enough viewership not to fail?
Here’s and idea, instead of switching everything we all know about Scooby-Doo, why not create a new show with new characters. If the show had nothing to do with the gang then it’s targeted ideas wouldn’t have been as hated.
But they didn’t and the show suffers for it, in my opinion for that reason alone
A certain political ideology isn't capable of creating, it only focuses on destroying.
That's because hardly anyone would watch it. But because the show is using characters from a beloved series, many will pay attention.
It seems like Velma is trying to be politically and socially provocative like Southpark, but without any of the intelligence and self awareness that Trey and Matt have about holding a mirror up to society and saying "See. You're acting stupid." Velma is just running around like a Karen, screaming how woke she is.
Don't attach woke to this trash. Woke implies intention. This didn't know what it was doing at all.
The only good thing that Velma did was get everyone into Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated. (An infinitely better show)
I’ve even started getting into Be Cool Scooby Doo, which I initially avoided because I didn’t like the art style.
I loved watching your take on this show Nattie. I agree with you. It's nothing more than an attention grabbing travesty of the original material. Somewhere Hanna & Barbera are spinning in their graves. So sad😢
Mindy Kaling should have written a whole NEW cartoon instead of riding the shirttail of a famous one...
No, Nat. NOooo. Don't watch, close your eyes. Don't look at it.
"It's evil! Don't touch it!"
Burn it with fire!
Hey Nat, I think The Lost Platoon did the best overall breakdown of the show and why its bad. Especially because his breakdown avoids the common pitfalls of these critiques, while also staying interesting. If highly recommend his Velma and Rings of Power critiques
Maybe Season two starts with Scooby waking up from a bad nightmare which is Season 1.
The entire show may have been designed to destroy the Scooby-Doo IP. Heck if Shaggy ate a hotdog Mindy might have gone on Twitter and said that the hotdog was Scooby. Seems like they really believe that "there is no such thing as bad press".
I'm so glad you did this reaction! 😂
Inception. I didn't want to watch this either, so I watched you watch someone else who talks about it. Got the info I needed. Winner, winner, chicken dinner.
Is it possible this show was originally not connected to Scooby Doo and later into the writing process some producer said "we now have the rights to Scooby Doo, can you swap the names of some of your characters and make that work?"
i have seen films and shows where something like that did seem the case, but i for some reason think that even this is so far off that that simply cannot be it
From what I heard they pitched a show and the studio said no and then they said ok but what if it's Scooby Doo? And they said ok but no Scooby cause we don't have the rights to him. Or so I heard and it looks like it having seen the "show"
@@CodeeXD That doesn't really make sense, though. if they didn't have the rights to Scooby Doo they wouldn't have had the rights to any of the Scooby characters. Further more Scooby Doo is a Hanna-Barbera property, and Hanna-Barbera is in turn owned by WB. They most definitely have the rights.
@@tehdipstick Partially makes sense, since it's not the only iteration of the Scooby Doo franchise that doesn't feature Scooby Doo (it is the first cartoon, though, which makes this). Apparently, Scooby Doo couldn't be used because the show couldn't find an adult take of the character that fit the show, and eventually the studio demanded Scooby Doo shouldn't be included in the end. It makes some sense, though, if you consider the "making the show bad for the sake of being bad": audiences can easily discard a show with most of the human characters as some random "alternative take"; include Scooby doo into the "anger everyone strategy" and you have a problem in your hands because the main character now is tied to whatever was said and done in the show.
A silly example that many don't know: there is a comic about the Scooby gang in the middle of a zombie apocalypse where Scooby Doo, as a taking dog, is explained as biologial/cybernetic experiment done on a real dog by the same labs that ended the world. Oh, and Shaggy makes Velma pregnant XD.
@@DocuzanQuitomos I'm not saying it doesn't make sense for them to not include Scooby. I'm saying it wouldn't make sense for them to not include him for copyright reasons, as they own the rights.
What's great is, I'm too lazy and old to watch this show. And I agree with everything you say here, so I'm glad you took that bullet for me! 😄. Love you Nat
Someone else said that it seems like this was an entirely different show altogether that then get saddled with the Scooby Doo IP by HBO.
The people who don't care about race-swapping legacy characters don't understand the motive behind it. It's pure ignorance.
Hey you know that established character that everyone loves? Let's change their looks, identity and personality! It's not about race...it's about change. They have sort of gotten away with it over the years with Wednesday Addams, but that's partly due to a large gap between the original and the next version, and that version to the current version. Each version is targeted at a new generation, but also, there's age progression of that character. In the original series she was like 7, then in the 90s films she was about 13, and now she's in college. It comes out as sort of an evolution of the character rather of a blatant alteration...for the worse.
Tbh the dude you’re reacting to seems kinda hysterical and I honestly feel like going online reacting to the reaction/opinion of others rather than the actual source material doesn’t do anyone any good.
Haven't watched it and I'm glad I saw your video before trying it out. Some people theses days I see make "imo" movies/shows with shocking themes to grab attention and like you said some think bad press is not always a bad thing. This is one I will pass on
reacting to this with you on stream was something else…😭😭
Making low quality ragebait is apparently viewed as more profitable than making a high quality product.
It's not viewed as more profitable.
Because of how youtube's algorithm works, it really is (a lot) more profitable. Half of these jokers at least start out as grifters in it just for the money.
Easier too. Angry ranting for ten minutes into a mike is easier than making real videos.
If swapping race really didn't matter they wouldn't mention swapping races IN the show 🙄🙄🙄🙄

"If this was marketed to adults, I wouldn't have a problem with it"
It absolutely was marketed as an adult show. This is not a guy known for thrutfulness in media reviews.
He never said it wasn't marketed at adults my dude, beside - imagine being a grown adult who finds this hot trash entertaining LOL. This guy is very truthful, you just don't like reality getting in the way of your politics.

This is exactly the sort of comedy that South Park ran on. I mean, I hate South Park and I don't like this show either, but there is obviously a huge audience for it. And the weird thing is all the rightwing nutters getting bent out of shape by this very rightwing show.
@@Carabas72 There isn't a huge audience for it. There is huge "buzz", but that is different than audience.
Regardless, South Park was at least original content. Velma is piggy-backing and bastardizing existing IP for hate-buzz.
@@Carabas72 I hope you're kidding, there's no comparing well conceived satire like South Park to blunt force dogshit like Velma. I think its funny that this show attempted to be "woke" so hard that the left thinks its satire. Seeing as Charlie Grandy's writing career has been mostly for SNL - imma go ahead a assume he isn't a hardline rightwinger...
This show has got it all, man. xD
And whether it was intentional or not, they're probably gonna say it was. Like "yeah haha we got you!" or they're actually dumb and double down.
The lesbian thing isn't a problem. It's just the sexuality. Even if Velma was straight. It's strange making Sexuality part of the show when she is 15 and was barely if at all in Scooby-Doo and they were adults.
I've never even heard about this show until it was recently talked about everywhere. Why? If people hate it so much universally, why talk about it? Just let it die silently.
About race swapping, I don't like it, as I like adaptations to be as closed to source material as possible. Rarely do I see race swapped actors who are great in that role, so in most cases it just doesn't work for me. What I do like is to use race swap as an opportunity to create a new good story, with new characters, and new background, inspired by source material. The examples are "Spiderman into the spider verse" and "Princess and the frog".
They did it right with Spider-Man. Instead of swapping Peter Parker they created a new character
yeah, "PETER PARKER" is never gonna be black lol (imagine trying to sell that),
Miles Morales is excellent as a "new spidey" his stories are well written and became the most amazing (lol) spidey movie ever made.
Good writing is good writing.
They had a pig and japanese anime character and no one got angry. What a tour de force.
That's all folks.
Let's be honest for a sec.
The show is bad.
However the problem is Upper Echelon...It is a gateway channel into alt-right content. You can dislike the show, you can discuss Identity politic or re-write, but there is a clear subtext about what the guy implies.
There is a lot to criticize about the show, but the commentor...just lie about it or mis represent.
> The show is not marketed to children, it is rated for mature audience, it is a lie.
> There is no anti-drug sentiment...because one character does not have a stoner attitude does not equate anti drug sentiment.
> There is no anti-white sentiment...again a lie.
> There is no anti-straight sentiment...because characters are gays.
The guy is going to pick one iteration of a man being shitty to make a whole discourse on how much the show hate you for being a cis straight male...which is either really stupid, or disgenious, or both. The whole channel is only targeting shows when they are female driven. Sure there are bad shows in my opinion and a few point are fair point, but it is also telling that he targets only those shows and if it is not obvious he make whole videos on female democrats, SJW, gamegate...
If it was marketed as try to appeal to his demographic I wouldn't have so much an issue.
But I have an issue about misrepresenting, lying, and the overall dishonesty.
Yes the show is bad, the characters are not attaching, the jokes falls flat so talk about that instead of weird tangent about sexuality you weirdo
"channel is only targeting shows when they are female driven"
Can you give a recent comparable/horrible example of a show that is 'male driven'?
@@fewwiggle Do i need to ? Whatever I would pick you would argue it is at not recent, as not marketed as the latest most controversial show it is pointless.
But I could say also that they are a ton of show each year that do not get renewed past the first season or even the pilot because they are terrible and not really talked about because they are not worth it. Pick any show that was cancelled in 2022 and you have your answer.
I dont mind shows that are being fairly criticized but that the issue, those channel have some fair critics but feel the need to add false information, inventing narrative (they hate White straight men).
@@benoitgauthier6998 IOW, you were pulling this out of an orifice .... no evidence to back your claim ....
You should try to watch The Room, it's probably my favorite "so bad it's good" thing
i think she did, she asked for another bad movie to watch. Check her main channel, i dont remember which "bad" movie she ended up watching
Natalie you have such a wonderful laugh. I am someone watched Scooby Doo from season one first run and in these years I will still check out the material. When I heard of the show I was hoping the best for it.
The first thing which was a red flag was no Scooby. I don’t typically mind race swapping but the way it is being used here is horrible. Mindy is now reminding me of Jessica Gao who is the show runner and lead writer on She-Hulk Attorney at Law. She refused to be guided by the source material and caused the show massive criticism. I think she read maybe a blurb about the character and was able to have some semblance of the character. I was able to enjoy it for what it was but it wasn’t a favorite of mine.
Velma has to be a far worse concept. I cannot bring myself to watch it because it seems to me like Mindy is trying to purposefully make the show bad which makes no sense. To your point Natalie, I am outraged the new Batman series was cancelled for this trash. The commentator sounds spot on with most of his critique with the exception of using the term “Woke” which is loosely based on how the term was used in the African American community and co-opted by the “Me Too Movement”.
The show isn’t even “Woke” based on the misused version of the term. It tries to offend everyone; perhaps to dissuade adults from watching animated material. I watched a reactor watch three episodes and I was done.
The only acceptable lack of Scooby in this IP would be if, during the course of the show, the characters met him, thus becoming a new version of the character's origin. But as terrible as this show is, I don't know if anyone would stay around long enough to see if that eventually happens or not.
I think this is meant to be a Scooby-Doo Drawn Together mashup. Without Scooby-Doo. 😁
I don’t see people watching more then a couple episodes for the spectacle. I can’t imagine watching the whole season, let alone multiple seasons. It’s certainly not going to bring in or maintain subscriptions. Some people with free time might change the channel to go watch a bad spectacle, but very few will pay a subscription for it. Or maybe I just have to much faith in society.
I don't care that Shaggy's not white. I care that Shaggy's not Shaggy. The only thing Norville has in common with Shaggy is the green shirt.
4:51 - Like Mystery Incorporated. Say, you should review that. It's an crowd funded, live-action indie re-imagining of Scooby Do. Right now there's only a pilot, which came out last year, and they're working on funding the 2nd episode. Velma is played by Dayeanne Hutton, the voice of Juliette Watson, Kate Marsh, Alyssa, and an exhibit visitor in Live Is Strange (yes, the first one). HIGHLY recommended!
The show is bad, but Shaggy being anti-stoner I think is because this is a prequel and they are showing how he gets to be like we know him. I mean, maybe I am giving them too much credit, but I think it's possible in that instance people are so busy looking for something to complain about they missed the joke.
Yeah, I honestly stopped watching in the middle of the first episode due to how unhappy I was.
its weird seeing two channels I watch with very little similarities merge like this
The show also insults animation fans.
*Norville:* "You know what 420 is, right?"
*Velma:* "Um, it's code for adults who still watch cartoons."
Great Idea Nat to make such reactions. Sucn reviews can give a good insight on Movies and Shows and to understand a Movie or Show is so controversial or not. Upper Echolon is a excellent Channel btw.
To be fair this review is clearly coming from an awful right wing space. He is clearly dumb about a lot of things. But the show is truly awful, not for most reasons he thinks it is.
I mean it's equally a problem if they change a black character to a white, or any race to any other.
For any media (cartoon, movie), when the original came out, they stated that a character belongs to a culture/race/anything. So THERE IS an original of that character. Mace Windu is black, Han Solo is white, they was "born" like that.
It is very good if a movie or anything has diversity. Think about it, most of the old Disney princesses belongs to any other but not white race. And no one cares, we loved all of them regardless. And if they changed any of them to a white girl, that would be a problem.
So yah, studios should introduce new main characters belongs to any races, who cares, it's fine.
Just stop changing stuff we already know.
i watched the first few episodes of this show and it's so bad it's unreal
It's indeed design for hate watch. The point that it's number 1 in its day slot of cartoons proves it. That is why I did not watched it. Even in pirate. Ain't gonna have my money.
"I don’t want to believe anyone’s that stupid." /looks at anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers, the proclivity of conspiracy theories. Um… I have some bad news, Nat.
She means Mindy who has a history of being a good writer of comedy. Not some random who probably has a history of stupid choices you don't know about.
So these top doctors (and researchers) who have found that the masks (that most people wear) are ineffective are all wrong?
And, a VACCINE (like the measles shot) doesn't have to repeated every few months. For example, flu SHOTS are called SHOTS, not vaccines.
@@colinnixon7739 Also Mindy isn't even a writer on this.
Wow, you found the worst video on the hate for the show… there’s so many videos out there that show exactly what’s wrong with the show and why everyone hates it.. but this video you found sounds like so guy saying “I’m not racist or homophobic.. BUT…”.. it’s the worst video. The very first thing all good videos on the show quickly point out the show hates it’s viewers by calling them losers for watching a cartoon as an adult. The video you watched is making me angry for different reasons then the show now.
Yes it does matter
Where is the pitch meeting?
This will probably go on forever and Firefly got cancelled half way through it's first season. Why???
i do agree about a lot of the sentiments in this video. but there's also some takes made by the guy you're watching that make me roll my eyes.
Something that I think is absolutely hilarious is that after this premiered Mindy went on Twitter to flex about how this was HBO Max’s “most watched original animated series” HBO MAX HAS NO OTHER ORIGINAL ANIMATED SERIES. So of course it’s gonna be the most most watched because it’s literally the only one
Sadly tho, all the hate watching did result in this show getting greenlit for a season 2 smh
I was so looking forward to this show. I liked the direction they were taking Shaggy. I felt like it was what Shaggy would be like in the present day... but man, I don't think Mindy is a nice person. At all. And she did that one interview where she was so happy about forcing herself on her co-star, like it was funny and not awful behaviour. The humour in this is mean-spirited. Velma herself just acts like a bad person all the time. I have the same issues with it that I had with Fleabag - I don't like glorifying awful, toxic, nasty behaviour just cause it's a comedy.
I am white, but I would have a major problem with BLADE, a black vampire superhero, being race swapped to white. Blade is not white. He was played in movies by Wesley Snipes. If someone race swapped that character for no good reason, many people would be angry. I can relate to characters as HUMAN BEINGS. They do not have to look like me.
You nailed it when you said it doesn’t have to be super hyper political 👏🏼
On the race swapping thing, I agree it shouldn’t matter. I think there’s just far more examples in pop culture of white characters becoming non-white characters. Sure, it wouldn’t make sense to make Black Panther a white man, but imagine Blade being white. There’s no reason a half-human half-vampire badass hybrid couldn’t be white or Asian or Indian, but that’s probably never going to happen. Just as one example.
Please give STAR TREK a chance!
See there in lies a problem let's say you want to recommend The Next Generation to someone. They have to watch season 1. :/
@@KikBlava Ahaha. I am currently watching TNG for the first time and can feel this.
My first Trek was DS9, which I adore, and I don’t hesitate recommending that one first as there are far fewer stinker episodes at the start, and the more serialized format would probably play better for a reaction in any case.
"I don't know if it will go for multiple seasons"
Yeah...with 2 hated episodes out, a second season has been confirmed.
Maybe the "hate watching" is a conspiracy, but I'm more prominent to believe it because it really looks like it, 100%
I remember a live action tv movie where they race swapped Velma with an Asian girl. No one bitched about it then. Maybe cause the movie was good and the character of Velma basically stayed the same just different race. Anyways I liked the Asian Velma she was good, the movie was decent. This show though with no Scoob, non stoner Shaggy, and complete character change of all the characters is why I won't watch the show.
Might want to check you facts there. Linda Cardellini is not Asian. She is a mix of Italian, Irish, German, and Scottish.
@@CosmicGoku529 you might want to reread my comment. I said tv movie, Linda was in a theatrical movie. Look up Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins. Velma is played by a half Asian girl named Hayley Kiyoko
I don't care about racial swapping on a emotional level but it does seem like a mistake for 2 reasons:
1. It's a lazy version of diversity. Making original characters that are POC would be so much more powerfu and those characters could build a fanbase. Seems like it falls in line with the overall Hollywood trend of remakes and sequels because Hollywood has no original ideas. They can't come up with original characters so they remake characters.
2. It's such an easy way to cause a divide so why do it? Original characters would be so much easier. Seems to just be done just for press (meaning it's disingenuous diversity).
That "Hate-Watching" has been going on for decades. No one knew the film "Plan 9 from Outer Space" or the director Ed Wood. In the late 70's two critics wrote a book calling it the worst movie ever made. Now rhat film and director are a part of pop culture. Kahling knows what she is doing. It's a shame she was lazy and did it with an existing IP and not an original idea.
There is a fundamental difference between an objectively bad but unironically made film that gains popularity because of it notoriety, much like Tommy Wiseau's 'The Room' - and a hateful, self aware piece of trash media like Velma that seeks to be offensive.
As if she's capable of creating anything original...
Always love the “dolphin laugh”;)
Everything is fine! Good night, Natalie. Oh shit! lol. Love!
Liked what you had to say but the reviewer you were watching comes across as pretentious and petty in their analysis
I've watched a few episodes of Velma. I just don't think it serves any good purpose in the world of scooby doo, animation in general or entertainment.
It got renewed for a 2nd season 🤦
It's too bad because i like Mindy Kaling
4:00 I don't mind swapping Characters as well but when it's for identity politics or just personal preference it just infuriates me, if suppose that an Asian man is more adapt at playing a role which was originally a white man, I don't mind that but when an Asian man is chosen because he is Asian to play a white man then that's messed up and I mean that even if this situation is reversed, a person regardless of his ethnicity or sexuality should only be given the role if it suits the person, the character and the story.
Entertainment has one job and that is being entertaining and everything else is secondary.
And I have never heard a person say that they found the old Scooby doo offensive, I am Indian and very much enjoyed that old cartoon, still do and always will because that show was not about being meta, woke, gender neutral, diverse or inclusive, it was a story about a group of friends going on scary adventures in a van with my favourite talking dog. This show was about friendship, trust, adventure, comedy, little bit horror and much more that the modern shows can only hope to be.
I saw the teaser for Velma and that was more than enough. I reeks utter garbage. There's a trend these days to destroy nostalgia. Don't even get me started on Kevin's He-Man train-wreck.. Just forget this as soon as you can and mooove along :-)
Racial swapping is meh cause people loved specific visuals from the original story and now they chang edit. So they lookdifferrnt. That's not cool. Create new IP and create any characters u want. Don't change existed characters for no reason.
Watch Alex Meyers video on this. He does a better job and doesn’t attack the races change of the characters but points out that the show runners said the show is color blind and that’s why the show has mixed race but then the show makes racist comments about every character.. please watch a different video then this please.
Watch season 2 be announced with Scoobie as a talking parrot!
I understand this series because people hate it so much but today it is fashionable, it ruins the classics with woke culture
If race swooping happens as long as its good like hemdall it is not good race swapping or sex changing
I guess the woke culture is fine with any race/sex swapping as long as it's not a white person taking a minorities role.
I think there's an element of what this guy is arguing for that rings true. They have to know about the rise of the "hate-watching" cultural critics here on UA-cam, for instance, and must feel that they can bank on some of the negative reaction for views. She-Hulk demonstrated awareness of this phenomenon. Now. Are they broadening that strategy and aiming at all demographics equally, as claimed in this video? I'm not so sure. I haven't watched the show, and I won't. But it seems more plausible to me just from a human motivations perspective that rather than cynically alienating the literal whole world for short term profit, Mindy likely thought she'd be pissing off only "right-wingers", however she defines that, (hello viral hate views), while still providing something like red meat to her base (occasionally) along with Amy Schumeresque "self-deprecating" body-disgust-oriented "humor". Few people set out to do something they themselves view as purely negative. I think Mindy thought more people would join her in her destructive impulse.
From the relative peace of the periphery, this show simply reeks of malice. It sounds like all the characters are mostly just genuinely trash people; it's the "watch the world burn" of anti-fan-service. It's Mindy saying, "I've always felt inadequate in a multitude of ways, so I'm going to create a world where everyone sucks, flaws are foremost, and all motivations are corrupt. Because if no one's good, then no one can be better than me." On that theme, actively destroying something that is a center of nostalgic innocence for many people is Mindy's way of saying, "there were never any 'good old days'." No one can be comfortable except those who join her in tearing it all down.
So. Do I see economic 4D chess? No. I see a rich girl with connections and clout using her position to exorcise her unhealed trauma upon society at large. And I'm bored.
Back to studying.
In my opinion, race swapping might not seem like a big deal (and in the grand scheme of things, it isn't), but it matters when it's a significant character because (1) it diminishes character familiarity for those who would otherwise have appreciated what would have been nostalgia and (2) it's lazy--it's usually an attempt to fill a demographic space without caring enough to create a unique character with unique experiences and characteristics.
I tried watching the first episode of this show. Literally couldn't get past the first five minutes. Just awful.
@nattiegold, I think I flagged your comment by mistake! Don't have a Telegram account but thanks for the prize offer.
I just want a good story in modern times why nobody can write like that, woke culture or not there has to be fine balance right??
Comments have been turned off for this show’s trailer 🤷🏻♂️
I've watched all of the episodes so far and it seems to be a prequal of sorts. The characters are growing into their historical personalities, however it does seem to be written in the same vein of comedy as Harley Quin. However, it is definitely not executed as well and probably not the best context to work from. Fred has already experienced some growth and I wouldn't be surprised at some point if the Shaggy character changes to a pot smoker.
Couldn't even watch the second episode, after how uncomfortable I felt as a middle-aged man watching near naked cartoon 15 year old girls in the first. Might as well have been watching hentai, tentacle porn is pretty wholesome compared to Velma.
Reminds me of what happened with Santa Inc. which from what I saw was steaming garbage
They really tried to as offensive as the possibly could be.
@20:58 now thats a very good question
Daphne says Zoinks jenkies and Mystery machine as the drugs she is selling.
And they are still trying to get this shit a season 2 I mean why
For a guy who claimed to not be concerned about race, he sure did bring it up a lot.
Just because you're not concerned about something doesn't mean you can't talk about it 🤷
Fact lol.. he tried so hard to make this a non biased review but as the video goes on, makes white people out to be victims, hates on "woke" things, says the only reason people watch it are to see how bad it is, and talked about how fred is the only prominent white male lmao..
Oh no something not white oriented.. there is no way people would watch this because they like it right?! Everyone clearly thinks like me! I dont like it so therefore nobody does lol.. jesus you cant make this shit up
Just because you hang a lampshade on a TV trope doesn't mean your show is funny.
