It is weird. Since when do your individual actions lead to a better society for others? Take Asian culture, for example. > Individual person loves to walk around with short skirts. > Doesn't do that because it may bother some others. > Becomes less happy as a result of restricting herself. > She also does this with many things she likes, holding herself back with hundreds of little things. > Every single person is pretty much the same. They all sacrifice their own happiness so everyone else can be happier. But since everyone else does the same, the result is that no one is happier in the end. In the end the only ones benefitting from this are those with a higher status/authority. If they bother someone, others won't speak back since it reflects badly on them. And others don't bother them since it also reflects badly on them. And if for some reason you're picked as a victim to bully... you'll just have to endure since there's nothing else you can do to make the situation better and nothing anyone will do for you.

Is it merely our common blood or the bond of love, trust, respect and mutuality. As members of families do we empower, protect, encourage, reciprocate, and care for one another. These are actions and behaviors not merely ideals. It is the natural desire for these values that keeps a family strong and thriving. The problem with many of the forms of collectivism mentioned here is that it is implemented on such a large scale that participation in the "collective" is involuntary. There is such a great difference between voluntary and involuntary collectivism. I played in bands when I was younger, and a remarkable thing about a band is that the group can be greater than the "sum" of the individuals that make up the group. As individuals, the members may seem unexceptional, but in the right combination there is this this strange synergy that happens and something "emerges" that is greater than the individuals in isolation. freedom (of mind and body) isn't for everyone. there's a reason the sheeple seem to gravitate over and over towards kollectivism. Many (i'd argue most) don't want that. they want to be taken care of, protected, provided for.. so even though our founders set up the best conceptual means of self-rule ever in the history of the planet, the people still have the right and power to throw it all away, which over the last 246 years, they have done through apathy and compliance
Collectivist Ideas when you think about it at first sounds all good, but after thinking for 15 seconds it becomes incredibly murderous. jon deery There are no kinds of individualism hence the term individualism. Therefore there can be no tyrannical individualism because it represents the freedom of the individual to act in accordance with their own principles and judgement of right and wrong accordingly. In no way does individualism suggest that my freedom infringes on your freedom, that would mean my freedom is your slavery. Individualism ensures that we all live our own lives free to do as we see fit, protected from such authoritarianism.
jon deery Another thing about individualism that’s so great is you don’t throw ideas out based on the idea of them being held to idealogical headings like socialism. We can simply hold Orwell’s ideas as Orwell’s and not pawn them off because of group affiliation. That sort of dismissive tactic is representative of collectivism. Looking at them as being Orwell’s we don’t end up painting all of his ideas or those of the perceived group in some monotonous wash. Aka the forest is nothing but an abstraction, there are only individual plants and trees and they appear as a group, just as we view animals in this way. If the video was irrelevant, it probably wouldn't have been posted, so it's kind of a given that it is relevant to current affairs.
I predict that it will continue to grow in relevance as time goes by. This is, after all, one of the great issues of our day. The struggle between individualism and collectivism is an age-old fight, but there have been few periods when it is so obvious to observe its presence as this current one. That too many people can see this conflict but fail to come out on the side of liberty is one of the greatest tragedies of existence. As a kid l remember watching Star Trek and the mantra of Mr Spock sounded so noble - “the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, or the one.” The idea was put forth that the “needs” of the many, which is whatever society deems that may be at the time - for everyone to take shots, for everyone to get a social security number, for everyone to be socially connected via the web, for no one to have weapons except the government, all of these and thousands of other manipulations now make up the social hive mind. I am a Christian who believes in the rapture, otherwise, there is no escape, and l may be martyred before the rapture takes place, but my hope is in the next life, not in this one. This world is wrapping up.
This is only the beginning. We can all stop this tyranny. It will take time. But we can definitely overcome. I have great faith in humankind. Have a great day/evening wherever you are. Peace and love
There’s an issue here that needs to be addressed. Collectivism can certainly lead to injustice against the individual human, it allows for totalitarianism for sure. The idea that collectivism is based on the unattainable abstraction of “society” and is, therefore a fallacious idea, makes sense. However, the principle of individualism working as long as the individual does not harm another is also unattainable. It is not possible that all individuals see all individuals as equal. This idea is predicated on the illusion that we actually have our best intentions and the best intentions of others in mind. We could even deceive ourselves as much as we could deceive others. So yes, collectivism can lead to injustice against the individual, but individualism can also lead to injustice against the individual and their neighbor. Both extremes do not work at all. The humanistic glorification of the individual, where the individual becomes a” god”, is just as detrimental to humanity as the collectivist glorification of the state, where the state becomes a “god”.
"Both extremes do not work at all" Absolutely right. What we should be looking to achieve is a sustainable balance of both individuality and collectivism. It is certainly possible - only those who have been tricked into seeing only black and white, in binary opposites, would say otherwise.
You’re de-emphasizing the destructive history of collectivism and punctuating the possibility for individualism to turn into collectivism (centralized power controlling the many individuals.) And that’s the whole point I’ve been making in these comment threads, that when individualism becomes extreme we’ve met collectivism and therefore there is no such thing as extreme individualism. As I’ve stated on other threads, using the word extreme and individualism together is euphemistic double speak for collectivism. There’s no such thing! They are not on a spectrum of freedom because freedom doesn’t operate on a spectrum. Putting freedom on a spectrum leads to another case of euphemistic double speak. The words conditional freedom together actually mean slavery.
As for all individuals being equal, no they are not and that’s the cornerstone of Individualism: all individuals are not equal or not mere copies of each other and therefore should be treated as case by case individuals. All people with black hair aren’t disabled and all people with blue eyes aren’t abusive parents. It’s not about intentions. For ‘the greater good’ is the philosophy of well intentioned Collectivism. Putting them together destroys the true meaning of only one of them and it’s Individualism that gets swallowed by Collectivism.
All protest isn't of merit but the right to protest is fundamental. Those who protest against the rights of others are hypocrites and should be exposed for their selfishness.

@@dirtypure2023 Humanity can be saved from many things. It can be saved from itself (climate change, war, famine,AI surpassing us and leaving us behind or going rogue, desecration of basic principles of "morality" that have somewhat allowed us to be here to this day.)
When it comes to what authority, I'd say my will to see the human race thrive and not allow it to decay, because for some reason I give a damn(sometimes I wonder why) is the authority.
We talk about how we should not trample on the freedom of other individuals or government and the way they choose to live their lives but what happens when other individuals trample on my freedom and my rights? My right to see humanity prosper and not hang itself from a rope? Am I on the wrong for not allowing individuals and governments to impose their vision on me?
All humans are individuals. Some lesser, some greater. Should I allow lesser or greater individuals to stir the wheel of the ship or allow the ship to hit the rocks (inaction) just because no one wanted to take the wheel?

Incredible video and the positive comments from genuine open minded intellectuals make me feel less alone in this crazy system. I don’t want to be a citizen or a member of society that is created to control, oppress and even kill in the name of “the greater good” any longer.
I agree. My addition to this is to keep our senses safe. Especially our hearing, all eras of gut wrenching, dizzying, heartpounding music is being played and remixed and over dubbed at levels which are deadly to some humans and many nonhuman species. And outdoor concerts are held during breeding periods for numerous creatures and plants. Many are ignored and destroyed by this "killer" industry. the happy slaves (those who do not wish to make up their own mind on any meaningful subject) are the greatest weapon against humanity and the individual. the psychos and the deviants need and use the happy slaves to adore them and willingly take orders. in turn, the happy slaves stifle, dilute, and drown out the individual thinking human. one side uses them, the other tries to reason with them. it requires a different approach, one i suspect we used to great effect way back in our past

The "greater good" is such a bizzare concept when you think about it.
Like, "If we do all these imorral actions we'll end up being moral"
But so many people treat it as a given thing.
Of "If we all inject some experimental stuff into our bodies, the end result is not experimental, it's sure to make everyone healthier."
Another thing that makes no sense:
"We need herd immunity to protect the people who cannot get the shot because they are immunocompromised" (people flattering themselves to think their actions are based on protecting someone) and yet simultaneously demonizing and removing rights from the immunocompromised, who have no legal standing or right to refuse without penalty.

They are using the Hegelian Dialectic to achieve their goals (problem, reaction, solution). And as Catechism 2188 shows, part of their solution for society's problems is a Sunday law. These important concepts have been argued by some the the worlds greatest minds since the time of the Greeks and the dawn of our earliest civilizations. I would pose a question. What makes a family? Is it merely our common blood or the bond of love, trust, respect and mutuality. As members of families do we empower, protect, encourage, reciprocate, and care for one another. These are actions and behaviors not merely ideals. It is the natural desire for these values that keeps a family strong and thriving. If my family is greedy envious and ruthless, my neighbors untrustworthy and my government corrupt could I truly call my fellow citizens friend. Could I then extol the virtues of my country and burden under the illusion of being part of a society. What makes a society, what is the mark of a true society. I'll play devil's advocate here.
That's just something to consider.

Collectivist Ideas when you think about it at first sounds all good, but after thinking for 15 seconds it becomes incredibly murderous.

As Orwell brilliantly said "They don't care for the poor, they just hate the rich" I believe to be truly good you must first realize your own evil.

@@laurendeery9956 i know but like i said more often people who push socialist/collectivist ideology mask it in virtue, but most of the time it's just rooted in resentment and envy, that doesn't mean there aren't socialist who genuinely want to do good.
jon deery There are no kinds of individualism hence the term individualism.
Really there are differences in personality even between animals but that we see them as representative of an entire species it can be easy to mistake them all as looking and behaving more or less the same.
@@BenSchillaci i see, i was always puzzled how an extreme individualism would look like, as we have clear examples of extreme collectivism in the form of genocidal. John1:1 The Living Word(Bible)
Very well said. To see someone put into words an idea that i haven't been able convey; is a beautiful thing. Thank you.
"Both extremes do not work at all"
Absolutely right. What we should be looking to achieve is a sustainable balance of both individuality and collectivism. It is certainly possible - only those who have been tricked into seeing only black and white, in binary opposites, would say otherwise.
Congradulations. You just figured out human beings are flawed. Haha.
