  • Belgian Monastery Visit & Trappist beers. The Beer Necessities series makes a trip to the Abbey of St. Sixtus in West Flanders, Belgium, where the monks brew the legendary Westvleteren beer. We'll show you around this stunning location whilst, of course, sampling the monastery's amazing yet highly exclusive beers! We also make a quick visit to the Hop Museum over in Poperinge.
The second leg of our Belgian brewery and beer-tasting adventure, exploring the aromas and flavours of Westvleteren beer which is made by the monks of the Abbey of St. Sixtus in West Flanders, Belgium. Starting off with Westvleteren Blonde we then move onto the highly celebrated Westvleteren 12 - considered by many to be the best beer in the world. The Poperinge Hop Museum is also worth a visit....if you're a beer geek!

✅ About The Beer Necessities: Beers, Breweries & Stuff!
A channel dedicated to visiting breweries and reviewing beers from around the world, providing an honest assessment along the way. The objective is to sample beer at source by visiting the breweries themselves, including monasteries that brew Trappist beers.
The initial episodes focus on Belgium, moving on to the German Black Forest and beyond!
Experiencing new beers has been a passion of mine for many years and this channel enables me to share those experiences with others. I hope my reviews will prove helpful to most people considering whether to try any of the beers I review. Enjoy!

Looked absolutely stunning those beers - checking Untappd I have never had one! Will have to rectify that as soon as! Great detail about the brewery and the beers - keep up the good work 🍻

Moved to Belgium last year and I have yet to make it out there. I've tried all three beers of course and have some at the house (part of the new home delivery program) but I still need to go by there sometime. One of my favorites in the "Westy 12" along with Gouden Carolus Whiskey Infused and Bourgogne Des Flandres

I'm lucky to have been a few times and hope to return at some point this year. Whilst you're in the area you could take in the St. Bernardus brewery too, which isn't far away.

Thanks for sharing. You definitely have to work on leveling your tripod and your audio quality though.

Watching your last video reminded me just how much I love & miss Bruges, as I’ve been there several times but not since about 2019. Miss it so much that I booked a ticket & will be going to Bruges in 2 weeks. Probably head down to Ghent as well. Looking very forward to a Zot 😎

What a great, great little place? Tasting beer at source is the best way. Let me know your thoughts when you next do it?

I much prefer the no.12 but the quantity you can buy has been changed to only two crates - at the moment - perhaps it will go up again? I tried to order some a couple of months ago (at the time I could only order no.6 or no.12 and it's all done on-line now) but the no. 12 had sold out before I could get through to the ordering process. On the "off-chance" I called into the cafe and was able to buy 18 bottles over the counter - they sell it in boxes of 6 bottles - (plus I took my 20 year old grandson and he got 18 bottles for me), so not a total loss :)

Well, at least the story has a pretty happy ending! I've been lucky enough to always get all 3 types, even when just visiting the shop and not pre-ordering. For me personally, the 12 is a beer for winter - the complex profile whilst sat next to a log fire go hand in hand! Whilst the blonde, which I think gets overlooked because of the 12, is outstanding on a lovely warm day. Already planning my next trip there! I've actually brewed my own blonde clone recently...it's bottle conditioning at the moment so we'll see over Xmas whether I nailed it or not!

@@BeerNecessities good luck with your "clone". If it anything close to the no.6 you have done well, and it will be a nice drink.
