  • Today playing StarSector 0.95a we will find a lot of new stuff ... AGAIN. Today we are exploring starsectors new raiding system. And I found out bit late that raiding is kinda broken right now. Also I feel like colonies are bit weaker that they use to be. Hmm let me know how you feel about this :D
And let me know what do you think about this Starsector money exploit.

Something about Starsector (From official website)
Starsector (formerly “Starfarer”) is an in-development open-world single-player space-combat, roleplaying, exploration, and economic game. You take the role of a space captain seeking fortune and glory however you choose.
    Get it here: fractalsoftworks.com/
And in my opinion Starsector is the BEST space game ever created.

What i consider weird in this patch is that Sindria is constantly in a state of local deficit of fuel despite being the only planet with Synchro-core in the sector.
Also, pristine nanoforge is the easiest to find item in the game. Just bomb the Chicomoztoc.

    Funny thing on colonies:
Accessability and rich resources. Hazard level REALLY doesn't matter for the 1st colony.
Settle some rock close to the core worlds with Volatiles, Transplutonics and Metals.
    Profit.

The update made the game much harder, due to all of my colonies refusing to grow without hazard pay, and lacking the income to cover even one heavy industry even into the late game. The delayed expedition time was a boon but I screwed up early on (got hostilities with the independents and tri tachyon, which isn’t as easy to fix with AI cores) so it took more time to progress. The domain technologies, the coronal hypershunts, and the slower colony progression (vs pre 0.95) really kept me interested.

    Case in point:
My first colony was a 200% Hazard rating Cryovulcanic World. +2 Volatiles, +2 Transplutonics, +1 Metallics.
Built Mining, then Refining, then Heavy Industries. (I had Industrial planning skilled). Initial accecability was 87% (no skills or bonuses).
Mining generated exports of +65k/month, Upkeep ran about 20k. Local Income was ~10k.
With refining it exported goods worth 120k. Upkeep 35k, local income 15k.
At size 5 I exported worth 180k, upkeep was about 50k, local income around 20k.
The idea that you settle a paradise world and get rich quickly doesn't work. Find something with lots of minable resources that is CLOSE to the core worlds. Settle it, profit.

I've scoured 3/4ths of my most recent sector and have found nothing but corrupted nano forges so far. Not that you NEED a pristine one, but getting one has definitively become a tad harder now that there are more colony items in the pool to draw from.
All in all I feel its an improvement (as you no longer get to feel the disappointment of having found another corrupted forge when all your colonies that can mount one already have a nanoforge of some type installed), but I think we might need a rare NPC in the bar that can refurbish one pristine forge out of three corrupted ones for cash or something similar (maybe we could use our influence with the academy to get those eggheads to polish one up, eh?) to get reliable access to at least one if we explore enough.

    • @fangabxyfangabxy8563

I think it’s the random generation. On my first playthrough (before the update) I couldn’t find a pristine nanoforge until very, very late and had the same problem you had, but recently following the update I got one just shortly after my first corrupted nanoforge.

There is a raid cooldown. Though, it's only a single in game day.
This however appears to be just so you can't cheese patrolling ships and raid constantly. Only when undefended will repeated raids be risk free. Having an unrealistic amount of cooldown would just be odd. Like 1 days just to use whatever high tech healing they have, rest and rearm seems like all the time you'd need to recover in the far future. Though this game doesn't injury marines. Only kills or leaves them unharmed.

Now that the old seeds for good Duzhak spawns don't work anymore, making a decent home system is much less fun, mostly because whatever seeds I've tried, there are no worlds more habitable than the occasional desert and nothing below 175% hazard, and poor resources. Yea raiding the pirate stations seams super broken right now.
Once i had a pirate station spawn near core sector, i left it alive and just use it to resupply now. That is after i made a 60k supplies safe fund on YMA abandoned station that is. But i decided to not touch that unless game becomes breaking hard for some reason.
In the patch notes it says marines should be much harder to get now and that makes sense and would actually make it balanced.
Problem is marines seam to be super common still so this exploit is full proof.
For me it would make sense if the patch just fixes the marines.. make them rare like the notes say, problem solved. Yes you could still earn a lot by raiding but you would actually have to take care of your marines and avoid repetitive raids since loses go up fast.
Funny enough no matter how many upgrades and marines you get there is a cap on how much supplies you can get and it is around 1000 supplies for randomly spawned pirate stations. Only thing that changes are the marine losses and how many time in the row you can do it before it starts going down. 1000 is so much though its almost like there is no cap, not really. that's like 1 million credits per month or so by just clicking trough the pirate base interface 25-30 times.

    • @Uran92
      @Uran92  3 роки тому

yeah agree on that ... but damn I would not have idea what to do after I get my first planet. Not for this "exploit" I would have insane problems the first cycles in the mid-late game. It is the time around when your colony is not making anything you have to have big enough fleet to protect it and not enough cash

  • @kenne-leegado4366
    @kenne-leegado4366 3 роки тому

I think the problem with your excessive supply cost is due to the fact that you don't have logistics skills that deal with them. Fuel and supply costs get halved when you go mid logistics.
I don't know if you already saw this, so putting this up just in case.

  • @-Kidzin
    @-Kidzin 3 роки тому

I mean you are throwing 1000 marines to grab those supplies so that requires quite a bit of upkeep and capacity. Logically speaking there is no reason you wouldn't be able to raid every location of the station once for the stuff but might have to be limited to once per month or something like that.
And as far as resupplying goes I did not find it that hard. I pretty much always buy supplies at Chicomoztoc and fuel at Nachiketa at good prices unless emergency.

i think the recent patch give you more spesific gameplay with more effective pros and con according to your skill build. i personally like more trade run(focusing on industry) with minimal hostiliy towards faction for safer trading. i personally feel its is more rewarding than last patch, however because i rarely fight, the exp is quite scarce. but i make 70 times more money than you make in the same time. if you focus in combat, you will gain more by raiding compared to trade? idk
regarding to the supply and demand. i notice that in this patch, you will get more goods in open market with high stability and vice versa same with black market. also they increase the amount needed for 1 demand and decrease the amount of thing availaible in the colony except the planet own product. basicly, if you need fuel you have to go to fuel production planet such as yesod or nachiketa, other than that you will find a measly amount of fuel with high price

I always just left my bigger ships at home for general exploration and scavenging/surveying runs and brought my bigger combat units only for specific fights once I found them (which would mostly be mini boss fights or high danger remnant systems).
That way you don't need resupply for the exploration as you'll bring mostly efficiency overhauled ships and freighters and won't need resupply for the combat because you'll go direct line and don't have to factor in 20 instances of burning fuel for entering/leaving hyperspace and 20 to 30 days of burned supplies for exploring empty systems before the fight.
Gotta admit though, it takes a bit of the fun out of the game when you have to run from some of the bigger distress calls/scavenger fleet because your Paragon and two Legion battle carriers are collecting dust in your colony hangar.
On the flipside you don't burn several hundred k in supplies each run for capital ships you probably won't need.

But you can explore and win most of the sector with the right ships. Legions 14 are nice but they chug to much fuel, if you use a balanced fleet you won't worry too much. You need the right config for most of the encounters. This happens through all the game. I make the effort to go dark on asteroid belts and smuggle my way back to 2M, and use only AIs to bank reputation. You can go nice and easy with a fleet that requires only 3200 fuel. 2 Mjolnir cannons on one side, no other offensive weapons unless you don't have Mjolnir
Flak, Dual Flak and 1 or 2 Devastators into the rest (Point defense, Anti-fighter)
In case you can fully equip it with dual flaks and devastator, leave 4 small energy mounts empty.
Hurricane MIRV missiles, Squall MLRS or Locust are also good if you have no MIRV.
Harpoon or Salamander medium missiles, you can also leave them empty.
Dedicated targeting core hull mod, solar shielding if you explore or fight with high tech, efficiency overhaul at first, before you get to deploy it regularly.
Min 1500 Max 1800 flux dissipation, rest into capacity.
Always deploy the smallest and least amount of ships into battle with what you can survive and dominate your opponent, you can always send reinforcements(unless you fight uphill).
Use frigates for defense, equipped with no offensive weapons, just point defense, defensive hull mods, missiles, focused on minimum needed flux dissipation and maxed flux capacity, that means survivability and utility; Lasher, Centurion, Wolf, Omen, Monitor, Brawler, Scarab and some others are really good for that, assign them to your other ships with what you break your enemy apart.
Fleet composition, tactics and competence in general will do wonders in this game...
Don't just go crazy equipping ships with the 'best', less is frequently more.
I just started a playthrough with Overdriven glass cannon hammerhead then sunder then fury constantly defended with 1-3 immortal frigates and I demolished everything in my way so far, got to endgame a lot faster and easier with the new version of the game.
It seems the gameplay got more competence dependent, don't listen to others, not even me, this is just a fraction of all that I used, don't just follow this it's not a complete guide, use your intelligence, explore.
      Have fun!

Love the patch. Lots of new content.
But as you've pointed out the game has become harder and more grindy in general.
My main gripe is with the missions and how unrewarding they are. Whether it be extract missions or covert missions, new missions are often ridiculously hard or time consuming compared to the reward. Even the old missions gave me less credit compared to the work I did. Unless I'm chaining several missions together, be very selective, and be lucky, I can't come out on top. Most missions aren't even worth doing, and much of the time, I break even, not making much progress in making money.
There are two ways I have found that guarentees wealth. Raiding and old school trade missions/runs.
So instead of bounty hunting or exploring new mission content, I am pigeon holed into raiding and grinding trade because new mission rewards suck so much in comparison.
Why do a 30,000 credit extraction mission that requires 600 marines when I could just easily do raid a remote pirate base of my choosing with less marines and make 10 times the money?
Why do a covert mission and pray there aren't amy patrols around when I could just walk in with my transponder on and make piles of credits selling on the black market?
Supplier mission is boring and tedious af.
I like the new content, and I was really looking forward to experiencing it. But sadly, I was stuck doing the same grind as the last playthrough. This time, it is more forced and grindy.
I think these missions should be more viable and rewarding. I think a player should be able to choose whether he wants to be a bounty hunter, a rogue instead of game insisting I should trade and raid.
But I'm optimistic because these are minor issues that can be fixed no problem. The game itself, and the content that came with this patch is fantastic. And we all know the developer is someone we can trust. There's always mods if everything else fails.

The issues that you talk about won't be fixed. Because they don't exist.
Your negative observations and conclusions are inaccurate at best.
I won't go in much detail unless you ask, but to summarize:
In case you shove food in your ears, you won't get fed, that doesn't mean there is a problem with the food and it needs fixing. This perfectly reflects all your issues, doing wrong things at the wrong time the wrong way at the wrong place and so on.
Missions got immense variety, but not just simply variety, variety in different multiple dimensions, it affects their quality, there are good ones and bad ones, you should obviously choose, there is so much in one world 10 players with 10 fleets could be living off of worthwhile missions.
I've had at least 15-20 playthroughs with the previous version of the game and I haven't done nearly so well in any of them, the game became faster, easier, more fun, more ways to get to endgame faster, I haven't noticed a single setback.
You might want to start doing some well targeted exploring, observing and thinking about your gameplay, like take out a ball point pen and calculate things, set up your fleet for specific activities and so on. 9 out of 10 times I go out exploring and I max out on storage and fuel capacity before I'm forced to return home, before I did some calculating and thinking it was the other way around.
      Stop.Blaming.The.Game.

I can see and point out mistakes without a single ill intent or feeling, that, pointing out better alternative, is the opposite of mean by my experience and understanding.
Don't believe me, try it, just improve your gameplay and your experience will change not only for the better but to the point where it is clear that the new version has no setbacks whatsoever, it's a definite all round improvement.

raid are ridiculously profitable, the dev should nerf it because you can gain commodity with nearly zero consequences.
yes the supply and fuel are kinda rare in this update but it doesn't mean you cannot sustains big fleet, what you should do is go to system with the most available supply and buying them from there, it also allowing me to sustain fleet with 4 capital and 8 cruisers without overlying on colony.
my biggest complain about this current update is just how un Fair it was ai with 15 officer level 6 compared to player with only 8 officer lv 5

If anything, the enemy AI is better but ally/friendly AI is much worse, I'm seeing my own ships are covering each other much less than before while AI's cover each other much better than in .91

The numbers are low ... Soldiers.. mostly..I miss the old numbers.
To have huge fleet built in Augmented Drive Field and increase your max burn there..also militarized subsystems on civilian hulls on big freighters and tankers.
The soldier numbers are too low..I used to carry 10.000 soldiers...now I cannot and that is pissing me off a little bit because I cannot gather em..
But...there is a way ... An evil way..
Yes...my friend .. time to updrade to high command and stockpile soldiers at storage....
You have a cheap fleet now ,very fast to kite enemies.. also soldiers.
Automated in-game income is not fashionable .. anymore..
Trading soldiers as they are low in numbers everywhere..and heavy armaments is the way to go.
Making stable income can be done using the special base items...with low grade colonies.can you keep em to tier 3 forever? No problem ..that's what you want. The more bad the planet is ...the better for you...
So these military bases can be ...next to the core...or in the core..
Your first colony might be on a good planet as you need to get rid of the negative income fast and you might not have any special item..
Anyway... How to stockpile... look ... There are planets suffering in the system almost permanently ..make a million ..stockpile... repeat..
We need Nexerelin to play like normal human beings...that's the big truth we do lot of hocus Pocus to achieve same things we used to...actually the progress is a lot slower than before.

Yup it is something new and it makes the game fresh ... I have feeling that making it harder will be better in the end ... the shock is that now we are not use to it.... hmm will look for a planet near the main system and go for the marine/fuel base of operation :D

It's such a pain to see xiv legion got sold, if you can't sustain it,why didn't you store it on abandoned station on jangala for free???? Wut I don't even understand... Xiv legion don't have its own Blueprint, and cannot be build (except with mods) and only 3-4 of it in the sector

I have to agree ... but it is still not clear if it is good or bad for the game ... I hated how easy the game got in previous patches. Yeah the supply and fuel consumption got insane and exploring got less profitable. It is on Alex how he wants the game to feel and I prefer the Harder version ... the insane part is that it is rly different so we will have to get use to new ways of playing in sector

you can see the commodity tap on f1 and see how much and where the supply can be available in many quantity, my fleet eat 20 supply a day and can still make profit by selling supply and fuel to luddic path colony
