Right now I have my beatstep pro plugged into my yamaha rs7000. The Yamaha is loaded with tons of drum sounds, but when I hit the trigger pads for the drum sequencer, I get some default drumkit, and can't seem to figure out how to change it. Is there a way? When I change pad values via the software, I'm still only picking within that one default drumkit. I'm stumped!
+risbjergin what I found out is that the beatstep's drum sequencer uses midi channel 10, which corresponds to channel 10 on the Yamaha rs7000. So now when you track select ch 10 on the rs7000 you should be able to scroll through kits. The thing that threw us both off I think, is that the light for ch 10 doesn't blink for some reason when you use the beatstep on it, so there was no way to know what channel it was on without looking on the beatstep program to see what midi channel it was on. Let me know if that fixes your problem!
I cannot get the pads in Drum Mode to launch sounds in a drum rack. In Both sequencer modes it is automatically playing drums or keyboards depending on the plugin. Is Drum sequencing plug & play or do i have to Map them? if so how does that work when using shift functions? At the moment when i press a drum pad (in Drum mode) it starts/creates random clips in the live view as if it is trying to launch clips. It's impossible it seems to add a drum rack via midi.... i'm using Ableton live 9.6 and hoping it's not a compatibility issue
For whatever reason, the drum sequencer pads trigger ableton clip slots (rec if armed/stop/play buttons otherwise). Can't seem to figure out how to have it send a MIDI note. Haven't changed any settings...this is just how it seems to have setup somehow. Any ideas?
This doesn't produce sound, it just sends information to other stuff so they can play their sound. If you wan't something to plug in a mixer check out some drum machines, like rolland tr-8
Is there a way where you can program a volca beats lets say, to automatically change the pattern after a few cycles? For a song played live for example. Thanks
Hi Billy! You can if you are sequencing your Volca Beat with BeatStep Pro. We made a video about pattern chaining (There's subtitles): ua-cam.com/video/T_HJ6d-cd8o/v-deo.html You can prepare different sequences, then hold "shift", "Drum" and press one or several times on each sequence numbers you want to chain. Best regards.
+Anthony J Richards negative. it's a standalone step sequencer that takes it's information from either the hardware it's connected to OR triggering (touching the pads yourself). it doesn't have presets like a microkorg does.
If people's ignorance frustrates you, you aren't obligated to comment. Better yet, it would probably take all of 10 seconds for you to bestow some of your knowledge and help a fellow person out. The BSP is a sequencer. Sequencers don't make any sound. All they do is control software or hardware that are responsible for making sounds. I don't think he specified what he using to produce the actual sounds in the video (maybe I missed it?) so the BSP might be connected to a computer that has a drumkit VST loaded or he might have it connected to a drum machine with a USB-MIDI input.
Saam Lol I watched this video trying to find out if the thing has onboard drum sounds or not. If you’re selling a $250 device, you’re selling it to people who don’t know “obvious” stuff like that. Besides, throwing some drum sounds on there would be a cool idea. I’m not an engineer; I don’t know if it would be cost effective. There’s some pretty amazing cheap hardware out there right now.
Yeah I imagine the cost effectiveness would be an issue, but also the physical limitations. In order to cram 15 CV outputs, a clock input, a clock output, a MIDI jack, and a USB jack on the back panel of this thing they had to sacrifice an analog audio out. But again, that's kind of what they were going for here. Sequencers don't usually make sounds on their own, that's not their purpose. If you really need some drum sounds there are free drum VSTs you can load into your DAW and control with the BSP.
Ok Arturia surprise me (or not) and now make 1. a Keystep Pro-Beatstep Pro that has *both* pads and keys and Euclidean rhythm generation. 2. a sampling drum machine that has all the sequencing of drumbrute but also automation and a chromatically playable analog bass voice with two octaves of keyboard-like pads as found on OP-1. All with unquantized resolution of at least 8 ratchets per step.
Hi, just bought a normal Keystep from you, and really loving it. But I miss a controller for controlling the parameters of the softsynths.. knobs and faders. What would you recommend here? Can I map the controllers on the Beatstep Pro to adjust different kinds of settings of the softsynths? (Havent been making music in like 15 years now.. :D) Do you have just a normal MIDI-controller for this? Or can I do this with the new Keystep Pro ?
Hi, there's a "control mode" both on KeyStep Pro and BeatStep Pro, where you can assign knobs and pads to MIDI messages to control soft synths parameters. I hope it helps :) Best regards.
I REALLY REALLY wanna grab one of these but it's been out for over 5 years now and I just know that as soon as I buy it, a week later Arturia will announce the next BS model with even more features and a comparable price. Damn.... What to do...???
New to this, so the video was a little confusing. Just have 2 questions. 1) Can it be programmed to pull off more complex patterns, rather than repetitive loops. Something like Aphex Twin or D&B artists like Dieselboy. Sorry, I'm not good at explaining the question better and I feel so stupid. But the clarify, I'll try to explain it a little better. Pretend you're doing a metronomic count in your head (1&2&3&4&1&2&3&4) with a basic snare (s) and kickdrum (k) pattern. Now replace the (1&2&3&4) with (s,k,s,k,s,k,s) x4 but on the fourth can the pattern be changed to (s,k,s,k,s,s,s)? 2) Can you plug this straight into a drum machine or do you need a DAW. I'd rather go completely DAWless. And I am aware that most drum machines do you have a built-in sequencer, but most I found seem to be pretty limited in their features. But my knowledge is very limited as well, so idk. I would just hate to buy a piece of equipment that I don't need. So any help would be greatly appreciated.
It's unfortunate in the making of this video that they didn't pay attention to the sound recording levels and left that decision to the automatic feature of the camera.
Hi Jaime, BeatStep Pro is a controller which means their is no embedded sound engine. It is meant to control other instruments either hardware or software. However, if you are looking for a self-contained analog drum machine, I definitely recommend you to inquire about our brand new DrumBrute Impact: www.arturia.com/products/hardware-synths/drumbrute-impact/overview Best regards,

Yeah, I love the company and wish it weren't so, but they are REALLY bad about that. My minibrute's power supply died a month after I bought it, and they eventually were just like, " well have you got it worked out yet?" Reading the forums is pretty bad, too. It's a shame because I love everything they make and they seem like great people, too. Maybe there's just not enough staff to take care of all the support issues.
Sadly the real weak point of this otherwise fantastic machine is the flimsy USB connection....Not myself, but A LOT of people have BSP's that suffer a broken connector...

Scott Ferguson can you set different tempo for different pattern?
Very helpful vid but a shame that when the beatstep is playing we cant quite hear what youre saying
Where's that Navigator pane in the 1.6.0 MCC ?
For whatever reason, the drum sequencer pads trigger ableton clip slots (rec if armed/stop/play buttons otherwise). Can't seem to figure out how to have it send a MIDI note. Haven't changed any settings...this is just how it seems to have setup somehow. Any ideas?
Don't know what, but changing the DRUM channel to Ch. 11 solved it.
oh boy listen to that compressor
Any idea of how I can use this in my band? In other words, how can I hook this up to our mixer? thank you
This doesn't produce sound, it just sends information to other stuff so they can play their sound.
If you wan't something to plug in a mixer check out some drum machines, like rolland tr-8

Dave Drummer qqq.
Thank you
can you put sample drum beats in this? Like feed it from your computer to your drumbeat...
Yes that is exactly what it does.
came in such a trance of the sound that i missed 5 minutes of what you told haha.
what I think is wierd is that the metronome light is on beat lights off and off beat light on. kind of the oposite of what it "should" be imo.
How to connect with Spark ???
It's doesn't work for me, in Logic it's same problem ...
How do you move up octaves for the drum sequencer? So If I got more than just 16 sounds, I'm not just stuck on the first 16.
+Bon Lucas you can only control 16 sounds
Yes - but how to change the note value on drum track?
with the midi control center
www.arturia.com/beatstep-pro/resources
Hey, is possible to controll the ableton drum rack with the arturia beatstep or only with the beatstep pro?
Is there a way where you can program a volca beats lets say, to automatically change the pattern after a few cycles? For a song played live for example. Thanks
Hi Billy!
You can if you are sequencing your Volca Beat with BeatStep Pro.
We made a video about pattern chaining (There's subtitles): ua-cam.com/video/T_HJ6d-cd8o/v-deo.html
You can prepare different sequences, then hold "shift", "Drum" and press one or several times on each sequence numbers you want to chain.
Best regards.
hi! are the drum sounds included in the DSP or coming from vst?
The bsp is a sequencer without any sound on its own. The Presenter is using an ableton drum rack for this
@@konradhausmann6359 whats the difference between a sequencer and a drum machine or are they one in the same?
@@bosslife_bangin the sequencer Controls other Hardware or software, it doesn't have its own sounds. Most drummachines have an in-built sequencer
@@konradhausmann6359 thanks alot man im a super noob, i appreciate the feed back..💯
does it come with drum presets?
+Anthony J Richards negative. it's a standalone step sequencer that takes it's information from either the hardware it's connected to OR triggering (touching the pads yourself). it doesn't have presets like a microkorg does.
i just bought my beat set pro i dont know how to make it sound i connected to an apliffier or something idk how to work this things ppl help
LOL
Connecting a sequencer to an amp, why?????
What about SPARK ???
How I can connect Beatstep Pro to Spark ???
can I have, lets say, a hi hat at 1/32 tempo but everything else at 1/8 tempo ?
For combined rhythm reason and ethnic music creation out side the so commen 4/4 sequence,
Is it possible to have a 5/4 or 7/9 sequence ?
Rodrigo Zapata any luck?
Omar Saad well you can put the last step in a different place depending on what rhytm signature you want
Note: I'll gladly pay 800 dollars for either of these machines!
Top Machine, great with hardware Synths
Hi, just bought a normal Keystep from you, and really loving it. But I miss a controller for controlling the parameters of the softsynths.. knobs and faders.
What would you recommend here? Can I map the controllers on the Beatstep Pro to adjust different kinds of settings of the softsynths? (Havent been making music in like 15 years now.. :D)
Do you have just a normal MIDI-controller for this? Or can I do this with the new Keystep Pro ?
Hi, there's a "control mode" both on KeyStep Pro and BeatStep Pro, where you can assign knobs and pads to MIDI messages to control soft synths parameters.
I hope it helps :)
Best regards.
@@ArturiaOfficial OK, brilliant! :) >> Thanks
@@ArturiaOfficial Are you considering to make a standalone controller like this? Knobs, faders + a chaos pad... => would buy it straight away
@@llifeform To be honest it's not in our plans right now.
Regards.
new up date.. :D pls!!!
I REALLY REALLY wanna grab one of these but it's been out for over 5 years now and I just know that as soon as I buy it, a week later Arturia will announce the next BS model with even more features and a comparable price. Damn.... What to do...???
I just bought a second hand one!
Why isn't there more swing than between 50 and 75...?
where ARE you getting the drum sounds from??
Hey there, The Beatstep Pro is connected to a computer by USB. Sounds are coming from a DAW, but drum are 909 samples. Hoep it helps! Best
Arturia so does it come with samples already in it
New to this, so the video was a little confusing.
Pretend you're doing a metronomic count in your head (1&2&3&4&1&2&3&4) with a basic snare (s)
and kickdrum (k) pattern.
Now replace the (1&2&3&4) with (s,k,s,k,s,k,s) x4
but on the fourth can the pattern be changed to
(s,k,s,k,s,s,s)?
2) Can you plug this straight into a drum machine or do you need a DAW. I'd rather go completely DAWless.
And I am aware that most drum machines do you have a built-in sequencer, but most I found seem to be pretty limited in their features.
But my knowledge is very limited as well, so idk. I would just hate to buy a piece of equipment that I don't need. So any help would be greatly appreciated.
I understand that your comment is a little old, but yes to your first question and it can control both a drum machine and a plug-in within your DAW.
Q2 l) could one drum be rolled not the whole sequence
That's the product manager - maybe somebody from sales should run the demo...
It's unfortunate in the making of this video that they didn't pay attention to the sound recording levels and left that decision to the automatic feature of the camera.
Are the drum sounds onboard with no PC needed? Can you change the sounds styles? 808, 909, house, rock etc?
Hi Jaime,
BeatStep Pro is a controller which means their is no embedded sound engine. It is meant to control other instruments either hardware or software.
However, if you are looking for a self-contained analog drum machine, I definitely recommend you to inquire about our brand new DrumBrute Impact: www.arturia.com/products/hardware-synths/drumbrute-impact/overview
Best regards,
I've been burning through the DBimpact videos. Very cool machine. I have a minibrute, minilab and SparkLE. What is the next logical device?
What software is being triggered here?
sounds like ableton live
et en français ,c'est comment?????
Great video hence why I bought one because what you can do what does Support is terrible I mean really bad..
I have brute se spark microbrute key lab full oberheim they take your cash no problem, but help in the company ethos..
I left 10 messages not one call back!! Thank Paul from Edinburgh
For a large company they really should get someone and teach the presenter proper mic technique, I have heard bedroom producers make clearer videos.
😂
I'd love to get one of these, but I've heard horror stories about the USB port breaking and then you're fucked.
Sadly the real weak point of this otherwise fantastic machine is the flimsy USB connection....Not myself, but A LOT of people have BSP's that suffer a broken connector...
Ableturia -
"Today, I'm sure all of you are surprised to hear that I've connected the Beatstep Pro to a laptop that's running Ableton. I realise that this is zero help for anyone who doesn't want to record everything they do via Ableton but hey, MONEY. Going forward, you can assume that at the end of that white USB cable is a laptop running Ableton. For every single tutorial that we release. Ableton. DAW-less? Unlucky. Using any connection other than the USB cable? Unnnn-lucky! Thanks for tuning in. Next week: Ableton."
uninteligible as it's skipping all the set up
It’s. Really shabby. Maan. I waste so much time on your tube .. just paid nuff money. It should come with comprehensive instructions.
1) beatstep pro is not compatible with iOS and apple product. (macbook or iPad) 2 ) nobody understand this product .
Does the Pro Step has internal drum soumds ????
Can an external sequencer or LFO control the clock speed using the clock in?
Yes, you can use different sync options and there's a clock input.
Cheers!
