I was ones laid off from a job where I was met by my boss and a security guard. I had about five minutes to clean out my locker and was escorted to the gate. These are the same people that expect a two week notice if you quit.
Since the mid 70s companies started dropping policies that showed reciprocation to employees. But they kept all of the expectations of employees and added a few to boot. They successfully convinced people that all their expectations were reasonable without the need for them to actually respond in kind when the situations were reversed.
Every time a company calls to hire me, and ask me to join immediately, I ask for two weeks before joining. The company then says "We need someone immediately. " I say: "What's your leaving policy? " They say: "You have to give a two weeks notice. " I say: "So does my current employer. So, how would you feel, as my future employer, that I do not give a two weeks notice, and left your company without informing. " This always works. Either I get the new job, or I avoid a toxic company.
@@eunishalloyd3451 Clearly you have never been in the technology industry or cyber security or engineering, they are always moving to different companies for better pay every 2-4 years and the ones with certain certifications are highly sought after, so just because you don’t get calls for jobs often does not mean other people don’t, I am always getting job offers, so if you can’t relate that’s on you but don’t come on here calling people liars just because YOU have never experienced something or have the power to tell a job what your requirements are before higher. Yeah, to hell with your two weeks notice. I gave a week at my last job and they should feel lucky they got that. All the years of last minute “we need you to get this done before you leave” and “we need you to work this weekend /holiday/ whatever, so cancel your plans” took its toll. I had a job that treated me so bad customers were trying to help me find another job. And even told me to f##k em on the two weeks notice after a manager screamed at me for 45mins in front of customers for something that happened on my day off. Let me repeat that I was written up 3x for food not being cooked when there was no power while all my coworkers took a three hour break I was given insane tasks that couldnt be filled. Nah please perma ban me from being hired back it would a cold day in hell before I ever come back to this company"
It takes a special kind of higher positioned person to target someone under their supervision just because they can. I can tell you even Satan don't do it to his own subordinates.
Do not give a 2 week notice. Have your next job lined up before you quit your current one. Block all contacts with your soon to be ex-employer. Treat them like you would treat an abusive ex!
Indeed. When they let you go, sometimes you notice one day that your credentials no longer work and then receive a call. Not exactly a two week notice if you ask me.
I've never once been given any kind of advance notice of termination. It's always "effective immediately." Once I walked walked by security straight from the HR meeting to the parking lot and told I can pick up my belongings from security at a later date. Completely humiliating. And it wasn't even for anything I did wrong, I just wasn't able to meet attendance expectations because of health issues.
Facts. I've been saying the same thing for a while. These people make rules that they don't follow themselves, and they want courtesies and considerations that they don't give.
They say they would rehire u until your gone even if u give ur two weeks. You're not any more likely to get hired than anyone else if not less because now u are a flight risk from quitting before.
Actually, being designated as “do not re-hire” is not as benign as you might think. If there are any employment lawyers out there who would like to chime in, please do - but I think that when prospective employers call your previous employer, the previous employer is only allowed, BY LAW, to confirm a) your dates of employment, b) your job title, and c) your salary. However, some prospective employers will also ask the previous employer, “Would you re-hire this person again?” And if they say, “No,” that’s where it could really boomerang against you. However, I’m not entirely sure that it is legal to ask this question, or to answer it. Again, if there is someone in the field of employment law who knows the answer, please chime in. If it is true, then being placed on a “Do Not Re-Hire” List for six months might not be such a good thing to have them do to you.

I worked in healthcare. The idea of no rehire was designed to show when someone had committed a really horrible act, that they would not be rehired. The industry abuses it, and one place I worked (international healthcare corp I won't name) puts every single employee who leaves, no matter how they leave, no no rehire for 6 months to punish them. Not kidding. Anyhow, I learned there's no difference between submitting a no notice/same day notice resignment, to giving 2 weeks notice. The actual difference is, if you give them any notice beyond same day / no notice, they can actually fire you before the time is up for something, and you end up with that instead of a resignment on your record. If a job is in a toxic environment, I won't do extra anything for the company, at all. I stick to my required tasks only. Simply, my employers only do for me what they do based on my contract, and what they do for every other employee. So, that's what I do - when on the clock. If I'm off the clock, I will not respond to my boss or anyone else, until I'm on the clock again. I rarely get fired (yes, it has happened, for ridiculous reasons). I do have work, and can get work. So, for me, I think that most locations are anti workers, and pro corporations. It bites. But, it's important to look out for your interests, not the company's interests. They have lawyers, CEO's and such who do that for them.
Just say the name. The company can't do shit to you and you have no obligation to protect its image. Kangaroo - violates USERRA and promotes toxic management styles. See how easy that was?
Every hospital I've ever worked at is now a no rehire because I didn't give a notice. But honestly, if I quit why would I want to return? These toxic workplaces never change.
These videos remind me of most of the managers I’ve worked under.. I love this one especially when she says “I don’t want to be rehired by this company? 😂 that’s how I felt leaving my last job! One thing I say to my sons when going for a job interview is, always remember it’s not if they want to hire you but if you want to work for them!
So here's the difference for those corporate simps that still don't get it. On a company level, replacing me on short notice is at worst , a minor inconvenience. On my level, if for whatever reason I lose my source of income without having another one lined up, it would drastically affect my life in ways some trust fund baby manager can't even comprehend.
I decided after a 17 yr career giving everything & not dating, marrying, to plan my escape, and emigrate. So i jumped ship 1 last time, got a rise, and did absolutely nothing for 2.5 years before i quit. I took the time to plan and prepare for a new life. I was smiling every night on the train home. It was my revenge on corporate bs.
As someone from europe, I was very confused. We have legal protections for both sides to have to notice at least a month in advance up to 6 months (depending on how long you worked there) If this is normal in america I could feel a strong insecurity all the time ooof
But they make sure that they state in the contract that the employee needs to give 2-4 weeks notice (2-3 months for higher exec positions in some companies), but in the next paragraph they state that they have the right to end your employment with them without notice. This is all designed for them to have their own backs. Cos if we leave immediately, they could (if they wanted to) sue the employee for breach of contract. Most of them won't (since they don't have the time or funding), but ya never know. They can get real petty.
I’ve never had a contract. All I’ve seen in signing the onboarding paperwork is a line stating that “this is not a contract either expressed or implied, for employment.”
Most paperwork in the US aren't employment contracts. Instead they are employment agreements and they phrase it in such a way as to excuse any responsibility on their part for owing you anything. It's crazy.
@@sensimaniathis is how employment generally works in the US. We don't really do employment contracts here, for the most part. Maybe for some very senior level or highly skilled positions, but 99% of employment agreements are "at will."
Well instead of being confrontational just say yes to the two weeks and just don’t come back. Also when jobs decide to let you go immediately with no notice they planned it two weeks ago.
You give two weeks notice if you need a good reference from that job. If you don't need that, and they treated you poorly, yeah, tell them to pound sand. They can't keep you there legally, regardless of what management might say or think.
Never missed a day for 15 years then had emergency surgery and the boss wanted me to come back in asp Got paid on a Friday. Cashed it then quit over text. 😂
I love the point about them firing another employee with no notice but wanting notice when you resign. I've been in this exact scenario recently as a casual employee, and I wish I'd known to say something like that!
They want to keep holding the power to kick employees out for nothing but not bested by the employees using their own regulations. The statistics will make their companies look bad also (employees leaving for unfair treatment and such).
I tried giving first, at multiple jobs for over a decade. Almost all of them turned into an entity that just wanted to suck me dry. The more I gave the more that was wanted. No more, I look out for me. Take that insane over productive workplace culture and shove it. Could've had respect, love, loyalty, a willingness to work, a better culture, but no. The greed I've repeatedly experienced has forced me to pull back. Just the way it has to be for me now. To protect myself.
I'll just say, be careful about the bridges you burn. You never know who you will run across in the corporate world if you stay within a similar career focus. This is for.employees and management. I've seen managers burn an employee and years later that employee is the new hiring manager at a place the burning manager is applying for. Practically laughed out of an interview.
Just heard about an relatively fresh out of college engineer that worked with a friend of mine caught flak for quitting his $25/hr aerospace engineering job as a contractor for leaving for a $120k job in California .. he was working as a contractor for a company I used to work and were underpaying me by 30% for highly experience position
Vote with your timesheet. Vote with your wallet. The generations b6tch at each other about laziness, but I'll give them props for changing the workplace - employers actually caring about mental health and retention? That's gold
If your on a 0hrs contract you don't have to give notice. The boss thinks they can mess around with your lufe but if your resignation is inconvenient to them that's tough. Thats where they get a taste of their own medicine.
Two week notice is only valid if they provide you the same consideration.... which they don't. Loyalty, integrity, consideration, etc. are demanded of employees but not reciprocated. Gone are the days when employees should "just be so thankful they even have a job... and shouldn't mind having to suck a dick once in a while." And they sit around scratching their heads going "why aren't employees sticking around?" 🤨🤔🤷🏼♂️

In my old workplace we need to give 3 months advance notice, anything less, we have to pay 3 months salary. So when I wanted to resign, I negotiated with my manager and asked him if I give 1 month notice, do I still have to pay 3 months advance notice? He wasn't happy that I was going to quit and he said its non-negotiable - pay up 3 months or work for another 3 months. But my new job was only willing to wait for me for 1 month. So I asked him are you really sure? He said yes, you need to follow your signed contract. So I said to him alright then, I'll quit right now and transfer you the money right now. He said you can't do that! I said I'm only following our agreement, anyhting less is 3 months salary so if I'm gonna pay that much might as well I quit now. So I just left. It all happened in front of all the other staff 😂.. These days whenever I get a new job, I will save up to whatever the penalty is for leaving early and just keep it on standby because you just never know what other opportunities will come.
Don't burn bridges..... You may just need to go back someday. Everyone always thinks it's easier and greener On the other side when in fact sometimes they made the wrong choice. That's why the 2 weeks is good to give. Sometimes these videos are pretty stupid bad advice.

I say: "What's your leaving policy? "
They say: "You have to give a two weeks notice. "
I say: "So does my current employer. So, how would you feel, as my future employer, that I do not give a two weeks notice, and left your company without informing. "
This always works. Either I get the new job, or I avoid a toxic company.
I’m pretty sure you have never had this conversation in your life
Like what? lol
“ every time a company calls to hire me “ lol dude how often are you in the job market and where are you getting all of these calls?
@@eunishalloyd3451 Clearly you have never been in the technology industry or cyber security or engineering, they are always moving to different companies for better pay every 2-4 years and the ones with certain certifications are highly sought after, so just because you don’t get calls for jobs often does not mean other people don’t, I am always getting job offers, so if you can’t relate that’s on you but don’t come on here calling people liars just because YOU have never experienced something or have the power to tell a job what your requirements are before higher. This is not uncommon, it’s only uncommon for YOU.
@@eunishalloyd3451some people are adults with careers. One day if you try really hard, maybe you can get there too
Yeah, to hell with your two weeks notice. I gave a week at my last job and they should feel lucky they got that. All the years of last minute “we need you to get this done before you leave” and “we need you to work this weekend /holiday/ whatever, so cancel your plans” took its toll. They can go off and get fudged till the bleed.
Last job I gave two days notice and that was only because i liked my supervisor
I had a job that treated me so bad customers were trying to help me find another job. And even told me to f##k em on the two weeks notice after a manager screamed at me for 45mins in front of customers for something that happened on my day off. When I returned my uniform they were like "you really should give a two weeks notice this will negatively impact your hiring process and rehiring" and I said "lady I was couched three times for food not being cooked while the power was out.
Best advice 👏
Face it, to the employer, you're slaves that they have to pay to satisfy some government requirements.
Say it again for the kids in the back!💯

Facts. I've been saying the same thing for a while. These people make rules that they don't follow themselves, and they want courtesies and considerations that they don't give.
That’s was brilliant, never thought it that way…
My sentiments exactly. They wouldn't give you a heads-up.
This is why I never get too comfortable at any job now. “We’re like family” 😮😒 That’s a lie too.
Some jobs really are like that.
They tend to be a subcategory of the ones who _don't claim_ to be like family, though!
That “sell my a- on OBT “ reference pinpoints the location in Orlando, Florida. 😂❤

Never got the idea of protecting a place of employment in these comment sections. Just name drop them. Its not like they're going to hunt you down.
I did the same thing lol and it felt so good 😂😂
I was once asked by an employer to give 4 weeks.
These cartoons are great. Veronica talks with violence. Hahahahaha
She said "I'd rather sell my ass.".
😂😂😂Well played Veronica
I decided after a 17 yr career giving everything & not dating, marrying, to plan my escape, and emigrate. So i jumped ship 1 last time, got a rise, and did absolutely nothing for 2.5 years before i quit. I took the time to plan and prepare for a new life. I was smiling every night on the train home. It was my revenge on corporate bs.
As someone from europe, I was very confused. We have legal protections for both sides to have to notice at least a month in advance up to 6 months (depending on how long you worked there)
If this is normal in america I could feel a strong insecurity all the time ooof
Lol and you think most people can chase a company legally we have to get the next job
Can you give a two week notice and then just take sick days until the end of your time there?
“With all due respect, I’d rather sell my a** than to get rehired here”😂😂😂
I have said worse than that. Most people who quit have enough sense never to come back.
It's crazy.
Wow, thats messed up
@@sensimaniathis is how employment generally works in the US.
Yes but that just puts your own personal integrity into question instead of that of the company.

The 2 weeks notice is a courtesy, nothing else.
They don't give you 2 weeks when they fire you
I'll just say, be careful about the bridges you burn. You never know who you will run across in the corporate world if you stay within a similar career focus.
This is for.employees and management. I've seen managers burn an employee and years later that employee is the new hiring manager at a place the burning manager is applying for. Practically laughed out of an interview.
Used all my pto and quit while I was on vacation. Started my new job after vacation.
I like to tell my new job I have to give two weeks notice then send an email saying I quit to my current job and enjoy a two week vacation.
I never give a notice I just stop showing up
Whenever I've been let go from a job (office jobs, at least) I've been given two weeks severance pay.
If you don't give my coworker two weeks I'm not giving you two weeks either

Vote with your timesheet. Vote with your wallet. The generations b6tch at each other about laziness, but I'll give them props for changing the workplace - employers actually caring about mental health and retention? That's gold
By law a two week notice is not required
If your on a 0hrs contract you don't have to give notice. The boss thinks they can mess around with your lufe but if your resignation is inconvenient to them that's tough. Thats where they get a taste of their own medicine.
Reminds me of when I got to my new job on the first day and I left at lunch and never came back
I actually did that once. 😂
Oh, I'm rehire- -able.
I'm Glad, I know what I don't want.
I put in my 2 weeks notice to be respectful... but they started to nitpick at me and I already felt burnt out.. i ended up using the last of my PTO since they didnt to care I was leaving..

So true no company works hard in those two weeks to find someone new an they fire you for the dumbest of reasons.
The sad part about this is that those practices are so ingrained that most will still buy it. It's only when you get burned does this become so much clearer to people.
Seems to me you should not give 2 weeks unless your company is willing to do the same
I had an employer that I gave 2 weeks notice and the superintendent came up to me by the end of the day to say if I wasn't planning on staying I was fired effective immediately.
Damn you worked for petty management
I have had different experiences. One job I resigned from and left immediately. One job I gave 2 weeks' notice and had no problem. I got my PTO time as well. I've always worked for decent organizations.

So... in the US you don't get a 2 months notice?
Nope.
Absolutely not. And even if you give 2 weeks notice, they can decide to fire you before that time is up, out of spite. I learned years ago to line up your next job first, and then complete all my work, leaving everything tied up..and then give notice effective immediately.
