- This week I am finally making something with the beautiful fabrics sent to me by Brandon Mably. I had several lovely days at my design board, playing around with the different designs and eventually started making the pinkest quilt I have ever made! This has been a collaborative effort with Brandon and my daughter in law Anna, and I have enjoyed it immensely! You won't be surprised to hear that I'm calling this my Barbie Quilt!

The Christmas shop is still open if you would like a festive treat for you or someone you know. Rita, Anna and I had a lot of fun curating things to go in my little shop this Christmas and we made a video series all about it a few weeks ago - • Christmas 2024
A couple of the items have now sold out, but there are still lots of lovely things if you have started your Christmas shopping! We will be restocking some of the sold out things over the next few weeks.

I just love the colors in this beautiful quilt.
Well done, you"ll have wonderful dreams.
Beautiful Barbie quilt!
Stay stitching around the edges of the quilt top is a great idea. I love the randomness of the various shades of pink/burgundy you used for the cornerstones. I have always enjoyed this simple design for a quilt - yours looks Barbie-autiful, Kate!💖
Thank you so much! I can face another Christmas alone because of you and others that are celebrating Advent. I am a widow who is 71 years and living in Costa Rica. Holidays are difficult for me now! Thank you so much!
Dear Barbara, just wanted to send my good wishes to you. I'm 57 and from Stratford-upon-Avon England and im thrilled re this Patreon offer. Its 2nd year without my darling mum and dad, god bless them, Lots of love to Costa Rica xx
No matter how old you are, Christmas can be a very lonely and depressing time for all who have suffered loss. Watching the Last Homely House videos will lessen the loss and feelings of sadness, Kate has great ideas and sew alongs. Best wishes
I'm with you! I'm Kate's age (so, youngish.... haha), and I don't have any family in this country so I'm all alone up here in the Northeast of England, so I really enjoy Kate's videos - they bring me close to another human which is lovely and it helps me with the Christmas loneliness. Now the bit question is - will the New Years Eve livestream take place this year - I LOVE that!!! Wishing you a happy Christmas and sending lots of love your way xxx
Barbara--It's my second year as a widow but am lucky I'm in the U.S. and have family nearby. You're lucky you don't have to deal with winter weather. You aren't really alone! We all have to stick together. Can you reach out to ladies who have similar interests? ❤️
I'm same age as you! I've been divorced for roughly 35 years, so my holidays have either been alone or with friends. As I drink my coffee on Christmas morning, I'll be thinking about you. If you do the same it'll be like we're having coffee together.
I love this quilt. I’m in my pink era. Thank you for sharing
What a blessing Anna is! You’re a wonderful mentor for her! Today I’m 74!
Happy Birthday on the lime green sofa!
Happy Birthday! 🎉💵🎉💵🎉💵🎉
Happy birthday 🎉🎈
Happy birthday! ❤
Happy birthday
Brandon Mabley.... oooh Kate, you name dropper... 🤣what a friend to have !
Like Ur scraps, Sir
I'm turned 86 in November. 2 years a widow. Our 61 year old son passed away 1 year and 1 day after his dad. Thanksgiving was hard my first daughter in law. Your videos lift me up. I have been doing hexie ornaments for our great grandchildren. I live in upstate New York. Have good holiday with your family.
LOL xxx
Happy Holidays Pat! xxx
I was thinking that too 😂, but so well deserved as Kate is a great ambassador for their fabrics, this video just another testament to that!
Pastel sashing will compliment the bright colored blocks and make them pop. I am loving this quilt design. I love the vertical sashing technique, which I haven't seen anyone do until now. I will definitely be adopting it into my quilting... I can't wait to see it quilted and the binding or whatever edge technique you are choosing to use... Thank you for sharing your informative videos.
I just found you on UA-cam, I'm so happy I did!!!! love all your videos!!!! I can watch what you do for hours..... you have so inspired me, actually, you have got me into doing English paper piecing.... Thank you for that.
Hi Kate. I am now a new widow (as of Nov. 25) you have been so meaningful for the past few years of my husband’s illness, plus my love of art has made you an integral part of my life for the last several years. Thanks for your comfort. Happy holidays to you and yours from Southern California. Felicia
Kate I’m 100% behind you in getting confused with inserting leaders and Enders with my original project. Also use scrap bunnies rather. 😂
I'm laughing at myself , I was sitting watching and I thought Wow Anna's not very well , listen to her terrible breathing.
Then I realised it's your Iron chugging away 😅.
I love your quilt ! It's beautiful.
Hello, my name is Edie and I just want you to know how your calming soul is like a warm fire with a hot cup of tea.
You have always sweet and positive words.
I truly enjoy watching your talents and listening to your sweet stories.
You are like a gift from God.
So I am happy to be a part of you and your lovely life.
God bless you and keep you well.
@@MissEdie-c7p I’m so glad I. Found you all! What wonderful souls! Happy Holidays!
I absolutely love your pink quilt!! I can’t wait to see it finished. ❤️
Kate-you gave me the idea as you call them leaders and enders for a new project. I do have a basket of squares cut and it’s a way to keep projects moving. It will be a year until I have my leader and ender quilt ready but that’s ok.
Right now, I can’t think of the name or designer. When I think of it I’ll post it.
I love to see you and Anna working together.
I love the quilt. It’s gorgeous! I know a girl would definitely like it too.
A lap of honor. What a great idea. Thank Cath for us!
You could put a border all around your quilt to make it bigger, by the way, it is absolutely beautiful!!!!
Fabulous! this quilt is so you...... 🥰 I was really thinking you'd go for a cool colour for the sashing - a blue maybe to bring out the few blues that are in the quilt - or green, because it's you, but the light pink is perfect! Well done - this will be a great addition. A fun variegated pink thread might be great for the hand quilting that we all know is going to happen. :) I'm sure Brandon will be thrilled with what you've done with his leftovers and given them new life! xx
Love your Barbie quilt. If Agnes goes through a pink phase like lots of little girls do she might just claim it. I check the size of a bed quilt by laying it on the bed it’s going to be on. If it’s going over a duvet I like it to completely cover the duvet and doing this lets me easily see if it’s big enough. I call it a victory lap and it really helps to keep all the seams together while I manhandle the quilt, especially if I’m hand quilting it. I don’t like leaders and enders if I’m using a piece of fabric to prevent thread nests then all of those leaders and Enders will have them. They’re only okay if it’s to save cutting the threads. Like you I prefer thread bunnies.
You indeed have the perfect place to work and oh if only I wasn’t so cramped as we moved to a much smaller home and I can’t find my space to start quilting again!!! BUT I WILL IM NOT GIVING UP!!
When I sash and add cornerstones I cut all my sashing strips to the unfinished block length, rather than sewing a long strip to the blocks and then cutting the sashing. This way keeps it all very accurate and they all match beautifully, when I’ve done it without cutting them, I found my cornerstone pieces were drifting but maybe that’s me! Love the pink quilt, I’m just finishing a very very pink quilt for my 27 yr old daughter, pink is her favourite colour ( she’s always asked “ you STILL like pink?” Like you are meant to only like this awesome colour when you are a little girl! ) . She chose a huge variety of pinks and I’ve made hearts that I’ve appliquéd to loads of low volume scrappy backgrounds, and it’s such a happy quilt and very her! ❤
This is a beautiful quilt! What a lovely gift from Brandon. I think a fabric swap would be fun to do with friends
No worries...if you make too many sashing strips make a pillow cover out of them. Thank you for a relaxing time out for me today. Gig from California
That looks so pretty and even yummy 😊
Yes to the Barbie quilt. The pink sashing is brilliant. I couldn’t see the quilt until the pink and corner stones wete seen!
Your quilt is beautiful Kate!
The lap of honour stitch all round a finished top also stops the top from stretching when you quilt it, and helps to maintain the shape and size ❤
Hi Kate, Thank you for showing me pink can be so Beautiful! Happy New Year
I never would have thought of pink sashing for a predominantly pink and red quilt, but it looks great!
I would use a medium to light gray for the sashing. Pink and grays go so nicely together.
Pink is not a colour I often work with but this one is lovely and I might just give it a go!! Thanks for the inspiration. Season's greetings from Canada!
I love it, Kate! So cheerful in all of its pinky glory!!💖 Might to you finish with a scrappy binding when it is all completed?🤗
I’ve done the Exploding Star in Kaffe Fassett fabric and it helped raise £1036 towards cancer research and pillows that breast cancer sufferers are sent home with post surgery. Surprisingly I really enjoyed working in this pink fabric!
Hello Kate and Anna, I love your Brandon Mabley fabric quilt. It's so colorful. Great name for it. Your video was so much fun to watch. 💕
I was always taught by my mom (88 years old), to grab both top thread and bobbin thread and hold them taut when first starting sewing, and you’ll never have the big thread mess/nest catching your cloth.
Ahhhhh my Grandma would say….”oh no those colors just fight together “. Nice memory☺️. She was always “Tuned Up”- dressed so nice❤
What a wonderful relationship between you and Anna. Love watching you mentor to her in the great hobby of sewing. I’m inspired myself to hand sew a lot of my projects because my granny taught me that way. Also now that I have my lime green couch bag I can throw a project in the bag and take it with me. I use my sewing machine as well. You put so many wonderful colors together and make the most beautiful things. I love watching your channel and you are just an amazing lady. My stress just goes away when I watch you, so calm and peaceful. Your cabin is so beautiful, what a lovely place to go and create and have a lovely cup of hot tea and put the worries of the world away. God bless you Kate. You have inspired me so much. 🥰🥰🥰❄️☃️❄️
Now I think I would like the white in between the blocks…makes them pop more🧐
I would go with either teal green, dark purple, navy blue or black as those are of course my favorite colors.❤❤❤❤
I just love watching your channel, you are so funny. BTW I absolutely love the color of your Iron. I also love listening to your accent it's just beautiful. My Great Grandmother was English and she lived to be 100 and she came to the states by boat. When she passed she still had her beautiful accent. Thank you kindly for all you do. Terri
A really ark green or royal blue smashing would be bold and wonderful.
Happy Holiday kate..Enjoy
I love your relationship with your daughter in law. 😊 The quilt looks amazing!!
Oh i love it. At first I thought green, then you said green and I chuckled but I love the light pink and those darker pink blocks it just makes such a beautiful quilt! Great job!
I love bonus quilts!! So smart and I often use mini charms and then at some point make it into a simple quilt. Thanks Kate. You are so soothing and sweet to watch. I’m so glad I discovered you…and being an Anglophile I’m in heaven. ❤
The quilt is lovely, I also like the one on the bench where you said the odd bit of brighter colour lifts it, I have a pack of peter rabbit fat quaters to make a quilt for a neww little boy due early Feb, the room is all neutrals so I will add them and think splashes of p rabbit will look really good.
Love how the quilt top turned out. I was thinking of what your longarm lady said about taking that lap of honor when finishing a quilt top. It sounds like something that one should get in the habit of doing since, it not only keeps the seams from separating, but one doesn't know how many pieces along the edge are straight of grain or have the bias side sticking out. Such a great tip to keep a quilt top from also losing its shape.
If I were making it the sashing would be black .. love your fabric choice ♥️
If you cut the squares at 4.5, take a quarter inch seam all round, they will finish at 3.5 not 4. Good idea to recalculate size you are wanting for the quilt. When I was still running my internet quilt shop, long before others, 25 years ago, the wholsalers would offer me bags and bags and bags full of off cuts, fabric swatches from the previous season, selvage edges with 2-4 inches of fabric attached and I formed a group of quilting ladies who would work their magic on these bags to make charity and raffle quilts. To be honest, I think we had way more fun wading through these mountains of scraps and coming up with our own designs, more than the nicely packaged pre cuts and yard goods I would sell. Retired now and enjoying life by the seaside, always with a project at hand.
I love your inspiration shirt quilt and your new quilt with the pinks is exquisite! I'm in love with it! ❤❤❤❤
ThI light pink is the perfect color for the sashings❤and the pops of color in the cornerstones, tied it all together very nicely. Just lovely !
I had to laugh because I LOVED the white sashing. That said, it's just lovely with the pink. Thanks for making that something doable!
That last line of sewing is also known as the Victory Lap. 😊🩷🩷🩷
Miss Kate, absolutely fabulous! Pink is my favorite color! You’ve done a wonderful job! ❤
I love the stripes going different directions. That makes it travel fantastically 🎉🎉🎉
From Indiana USA
Thank you dear Kate....🎉🤗🤗🎊❤️👍👋🇿🇦🇿🇦
You’re welcome 😊 xxx
Fun. Black or dark grey sashing would be my pick
I love how you take all these scraps and make great quilts, coats, curtains etc and they come out beautiful! That is a gift and one I don’t have. Just love watching you and Anna.
Hi 😊
Thanks for video waching you from lithuania❤
When I do my "victory laps" I sew from the back side of the top so I can make sure all the seam allowances are laying flat in the direction I want them to be. The Barbie Quilt is a perfect name for this creation!
Hi 😊
Dear Kate, at first I wasn’t liking this quilt, but you always drag me along unsure and then by the end I am saying well done Kate! ❤ I have thought about a new idea, I haven’t figured out the logistics yet but somehow we could borrow Anna! Lol ❤
dear Kate.....looks beautiful......................have a nice christmastime Blessings and Greetings from Daggy, kiel,Germany☘☘☘
As a pink person I absolutely love this quilt ❤ I always enjoy your videos thank you for all your work
Oh Kate, this is the most beautiful quilt ever! I always wondered what stopped a quilt coming apart when the thread is just cut off...now I know, its the 'lap of honour'.
I loved this!
Hi 👋🏻 😊
@@Andrew_beffa187Go away bot! 🤖
In garment sewing we call it “stay stitching”… so the fabric will stay the same shape it was when cut; in quilt tops, it’s so the seams will stay together and not come unravelled 😊
Hi Kate the first thing I thought of when I ard was the seed pkt Quilt u made without the flowers. I LUV it! How nice of Brandon Good luck.pauline and Brucexxx
I have thread bunnies, but I also am sewing 2.5" squares together which will be an Arkansas Crossroads quilt for my daughter. Two quilts in one time.
I love scrappy quilts. This one is especially nice. Those cornerstones are perfect and pull everything together.❤
Beautiful Kate ❤. Thanks for being here for all to enjoy 😊 muahhhh and smooch smooch 😘
We call the final round of secure safety stitches “Victory Lap”. A true victory the top is complete. Beautiful quilt Anna and Kate!
Blessings, Dawn
Central Valley, Ca
Love the pink quilt!!! Pink is one of the best colors….❤❤❤ I test quilt size like Anna does but I actually put the quilt top over myself and rollover to make sure the top is large enough to not leave my backside uncovered. Don’t ask how I know to do this step….😂 Thanks for another video Kate and Anna!
It's always nice to make a quilt. I mean Watching YOU (and Anna) make a beautiful quilt.💖💖
Just when I think you have created the most brilliant quilt, you make another even more stunning! Just unbelievably gorgeous. Your creativity is bound less. My 11 year old granddaughter watches your videos with me and she is mesmerized. Her comment last night was “She lives just like I’d like to live.” God bless!
How brilliant your granddaughter is to have such an awareness about life.
What a beautiful quilt! Pretty in pink! It might be my next project. 🥰 In keeping with the advent season, I want to read a chapter each day of Luke in the Gospels. By Christmas Day, I’ll have read the complete life of Jesus. The reason for the season, as they say. 🇨🇦🌲🙂
I'm doing exactly the same, beginning with today and Chapter 1 :)
I didn’t know I liked pink-you’ve transformed me! I love this quilt!
I loved the white with the pink and was surprised you hated it, but the light pink is a good alternative. Hanging over my bed is a variation in blue and white of a similar pattern.
Oh my goodness, I do love the Barbie quilt. That was a genius idea of how to use those scraps. I do love pink! 🌸🌸🌸
Brandon Mabley is lucky to have you for a mate and he likely knows it :). The quilt is lovely. I vote for that exquisite teal or electric blue that is highlighted in so many blocks as the foundational colour for the back. I'm wrestling with borders this evening. I typically avoid them, but they are a feature in this Christmas quilt. I will domestic machine quilt it and pop it on the wall instead of a tree this year. Thank you for the generous subscription. It really fills the heart of so many and makes me look forward to borders.
The cornerstones are brillant. When you brought out the light bright pink, I thought, oh no. I had to forward to the end to sed how it would work out. Then I saw it with the cornerstones and if was beautiful. So I went back and finished watching. Lovely.
As someone who loves collecting old crazy quilts I'm so glad you didn't do the white sashing lol, nothing ruins a crazy quilt faster than white borders, they always look like they're unfinished!
This turned out so pretty, you have amazing color sense ❤
The cornerstones absolutely MADE it! Amazing how those little squares tied it all together and anchored the "randomness". Well done!
Gorgeous Kate! ❤
Gosh. I would love to have Brandon Mabley as my friend . 🥴
I’m not usually a big fan of red and pink together but this is really beautiful. Especially with all the other pops of color incorporated. It reminds me of Valentine’s Day. ❤
Are you going to read a story on Christmas Eve this year? I hope so. The last 2 years if Christmas stories have been highly anticipated and enjoyed by me. I like this pink quilt.
Your quilt is so BEAUTIFUL! The cornerstones really add to the design. How very fun to quilt with someone. (Oh, I like the term “thread bunnies better 🥰).
I met Brandon Mably at the Kaffe exhibition in Edinburgh. What a nice man. How wonderful that you’re friends. It must be so interesting to talk to him longer than a few minutes.
What a lovely way to start the new year with Kate!
That single line of stitching around the perimeter (stay-stitching) is a "victory lap".
I was thinking green at the beginning of the video but I adore the pink, Kate! Brava, well done! We dont all have such a variety of pink fabrics, but hopefully one day I would be able to make such an adorable pinky pink quilt :) Happy Advent!
Oh, thank you, for sharing your collective vision! It is absolutely lovely!!!
Anna's so lucky to have a mother in law like you. You have taught her so much and your bond is so nice. You do such beautiful work.
It is lovely to see their relationship. Kate is blessed to have a lovely daughter in law.
Love that you have each other
Stay stitching around the edges of the quilt top is a great idea. I love the randomness of the various shades of pink/burgundy you used for the cornerstones. I have always enjoyed this simple design for a quilt - yours looks Barbie-autiful, Kate!💖
Love to hear you say….sometimes I am not too accurate!, with the more challenging small pieces! Quilting is art not the perfection of stitches or lines. The only person who notices the off bits, unless you have a very critical “fan”, is the person who does the quilt! I love the pink the quilt…it is so HAPPY 😀!
Fabulous quilt Kate. Thank you for cheering my day as I sit here quietly on the sofa. ❤
❤ Absolutely BEAUTIFUL🎉
What a beautiful project! I am in love with the Barbie pink quilt and I love the cornerstone method 😮How lovely to spend time with Anna on this lovely quilt. Thank you for sharing this wonderful quilt project.
The Barbie quilt is stunning Kate. Well done.
I went to Harrogate Knitting and Stitching show with my green sofa bag. I got 1 lady from one of the stalls who came over to me saying how much we love your videos.Thank you Kate and all behind the camera. You all do a great job. ❤🎉😊
The cornerstones really pull the whole thing together. Very good decision. 😍
I love your Barbie quilt! Happy Holidays!
I love how you asked others to join you in the design process! Those cornerstones just really brought it all together. I hope I can see the future of a quilt like that one day. Thank you for taking us on another creative adventure : )
So ein wunderschöner Pinkfarbener Quilt!! 👍👏😍
Hello Kate from Portland Oregon, USA. I think the blue and pink adding machine tape strip sets would be fun as diaper bags blue for boys, pink for girls. I too have a couple of Liberty fabric fat quarters. It's hard to decide what to use them for. You certainly have given me some things to consider.
I loved watching this quilt come together. That’s why I can’t create without my design wall, it lets me think on things. And I don’t know what it is about seeing things on the wall that helps me make better decisions, but it certainly works. I’ve never heard of the lap of honor but what a great tip!
