Thanks for the great information. I'm new to your channel. I have a 3 year old townhouse and just watching your channel have seen a couple of violations. I would like to get this in writing to address the builder with.
Where was the door swinging over stairs in the video?...A graspable handrail is required on one side for (4) or more risers. An engineer wouldn't touch that deck for $1 million dollars.
Hi Renaldo I am a new viewer. I want to ask you something regarding windows and doors. I live in Greenville, South Carolina. In a year I would like to begin my build as owner/builder. I have been woodworking as a hobby for a while now and I thought this would be a great opportunity to build custom doors/ windows (including the glazing) . My question is; if I do it myself I won’t be able to provide the sticker on the windows/doors which include U value/ R value and other specs which I see on all the commercial units in stores. Would this cause issues during inspection ? Thank you and I appreciate all of your content !
It depends upon the local government rules. Some jurisdictions are very picky and will require full energy analysis to be completed at the planning stage when plans are submitted to the planning department (like throughout a state like CA). In those areas they would typically confirm many materials (specifically windows) used in the construction meet that plan design and energy requirements. However, other parts of the US are much more relaxed and may not even care about windows, except maybe to require that they are double pane. If I were in your situation I would just speak with the planning department and ask for their window and door requirements on a new build.
I'm confused as to what you're asking for.... I'm giving you real-world in the field examples, I'm giving you code sections ....what else are you needing???
seeing this makes me so much happier with myself. ive been a contractor for 30 years, and ALWAYS strive for a perfect job- up to all codes
I appreciate your feedback, and thanks for watching.

Everything is in the 2018 IRC
If door swings out over stairs then landing is required. Grabable handrail required at stairs. Engineer to address bracing at deck.
You must know I like to respond to ignorance. Do you have a copy of the IRC???... did you understand the video??

I would just by my glass Separately that's already rated and then install it in the door or window customs

You have two excellent responses.
currently studying for my limited/SFD license, is there anything that you can recommend or send to study that will specifically be on the test?
Where are you located??... what code book has your state adopted??
