I love anything leather ! I ALWAYS use Leather Belts, Leather Wallets, a pair of Leather Boots, which I had made in Bangkok about 20 years ago, {based on my English ones. I know a little shop ! }, and a Travel Pochette, {made in England},, that I have used for the last 60 years !
I condition ALL my Leather regularly, so that it lasts !

As a child, our neighbor hired me to skive and join leather strips for his business. I learned basic leather tooling from him but couldn't afford a set of stamps, so I filed my own from the heads of 20 penny nails. Seeders, leaves, basket weaves... I copied most of Al's fancy store bought tools and went on to make loads of leather items from scraps he gave me. Learning to stitch and lace enabled me to make some pretty professional looking things at just 12 YO... Spent the next 50 years working with my hands and loved it...

I completely agree with the idea of embracing imperfections in natural materials. I make furniture and I try, customer allowing, to use the timber some fine furniture makers would discount for its flaws, knots and burrs. I think it’s these imperfections are where the true beauty of nature is.

I have been a hobby leatherworker since about 2017. I would always buy small sections of ready-cut leather which I could piece together to make items. I recently purchased a side of leather which was imported because I really have not found any UK leather business. I thought there was just no domestic demand or suppliers! I thought it was all USA or European. I am enlightened. I would love to help develop use of locally sourced leather especially hearing we incinerate so much, what a waste!

@@shedtime_au - far from it. There's much more to Dom than car restoration. Other people are restoring Porsches on UA-cam, few people are championing at-risk craft skills like this.

@@PeterJewell2Thank you for the support peter, you are right, this was never going to be just a car restoration channel, its just whatever I get up to, if people think thats "loosing the plot" or "boring" thats fine with me! they can go watch the other car restoration channels,
      Thank you
