I've been binging your videos as I'm getting into leathercraft myself and you have some of the best educational content. You're a gentleman and a scholar.
The answer is 42! It's a reference to Douglas Adams' book Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I love your videos and appreciate the laidback style and easygoing manner tied in with excellent explanation and visuals. I like the way your videos are framed, it's very clear and focused on the work being done and I appreciate that. I ordered some of your bottle openers for family for gifts and truly appreciate the quality and design of them - so I am very much looking forward to your new tools coming soon.
I definitely enjoy this sort of content. I personally dig the whole not showing your face. I can play your videos while doing something else ( at the moment sewing up a coozie) and not feel as if I'm missing something. How that make sense I'm not sure but alas it's the internet and on the internet sense is not a prerequisite! :)
The tension around 26:00 when she started talking was pretty uncomfortable tbh, it felt like he didn't want her to talk, and then got over it because he was on camera.
Sir, from one artist to another...you are an artist. You create with your hands, you use your creativity to figure out problems you might encounter, and even punching holes for stitching you visualize. Not many can do what you in particular do. You are building and creating, which of itself is an artform. Inspiration is creativity. And Art is usually pleasing to the eye.
I like the 'Bench Candy' vision of your tools. I must confess I've been stalking your page for the tools, but can hear it will take some time before I can get them!
I am very happy with the video content you produce. I learn a ton. Keeping your business status quo is great. Comfortable. My leather work will never be a business. It will always remain a hobby. For me, asking for money and have a time constraint changes the essence of the leather work. It becomes work and not enjoyable. I am very content with playing with leather. Better tools. Definitely. Started with really bad edge bevelers. Got some Barry King edgers. They are fine. Bought myself one Palasanto edge beveler. Oh my is this one perfect. It is a joy to use. Now I look forward to edge beveling and burnishing.
I'm 62. I have had depression and anxiety since I was about 9. I've found I was always unhappy seeking happiness. So, I've learned to be content with contentment.
You remind me of Pocket83, love the type of faceless knowledgeable videos about stuff I don't actually need for any skills I have/don't have, but it's soothing to hear someone with a practical knowledge talk about something they love
What she said makes perfect sense. What you are jealous of typically represents something you really want but don’t believe you can have. So if you pursue it as a jealousy you may be inclined to go at it a bit harder! Brilliant! Cheers mates!!
I have many hobbies and wanted to start making how to videos but was not excited about putting my face on them for all the same reasons you state. Thanks for making it all make sense!
I love your videos... this one especially. Im getting into leather working and I can't believe how informative your channel i. Keep posting - from all of your subscribers
Great video!!! Sometimes a face to a voice is nice, but hey most of us are here to learn some tricks of the trade and in my opinion you are one of the better mentors to learn leather working from.... ✌
I believe you’ve done so well because you’re a phenomenal leather worker and seem like a really nice guy. Thank you for your content. I know I have learned a lot from watching you through my leather craft journey
Thank you so much, I loved this format In regards to the meaning of life question, according to my kabbalah teacher, you got a huge ding ding ding, he says that when you cross over, the first couple of questions you'll be asked is: Did you have a good time? Were you happy? Happy new year 💕🎉
Hi, I enjoyed your videos so much. Can you share where you buy the nylon backing material? I have been looking in the internet but found nothing. Thank you for your solid instruction.
Absolutely agree with your views on a sewing machine. I really think hand sewing is true handmade but making shoulder tote bag straps…. I shifted to a sewing machine for that work. Thanks to you both for sharing your talent and passion.
I love this video. And good for you regarding your privacy. I would do the same thing. Regarding a sewing machine that is always frustrating, I finally bought myself a great quality machine- a Juki- and what a joy it is to use. No more frustrations with bobbins and things always getting tangled. It is a simple but high quality machine. I think it was certainly a get what you pay for thing. I admire the hand sewing you do and it is very beautiful. My old hands just can't handle it anymore! Keep up the great videos. I have learned so much!
Love making it about the craft not the face ,to many are on here to get their face on here 👍 and once again love the content and learning some new things . Thank you both .
I like what she said about follow your jealousies. Specifically when you are trying to figure out what kind of projects. I got back into leather working because I wanted a leather pad for my desk and the quality and price of the ones available on Amazon where more then what I knew I could make my hand for better quality… ironically still haven’t ever made that desk pad in the past year
Honestly the whole idea behind a Corter leather craft tool brand even if it’s down the line. I will 100% be purchasing any tools that are designed by you guys!
Benchcandy! Love it and can’t wait to get my own corter pounder and brass blade handle. Great video as always, enjoyed learning more about you personally, too!
This video was awesome. Thank you for sharing it and your craft with us! I can't wait to buy a Corter Pounder and knife handle one day so that every time I use them I can think of how much I've learned from your channel.
Love this, thank you for taking the time to do these. Where does one get the nylon backing? I’ve been hunting around for a bit and haven’t been able to find it. Thanks!
I already have a lot of hobbies, and really no time for a new one. But I watch your videos because I find them fascinating. And I love your relaxed style of content ❤️
I can't wait for your tools! I love the idea of a weighted X-Acto handle, and would buy one immediately! Also, that awl that you held up for a second was so beautiful! Thank you guys for all of the ways you've inspired and taught us all! I'm a relatively new subscriber, but I love everything about your works here.
At the 22:20 mark, did you glue the two pieces to veg tan leather or was that some other type of backing? And would you have used the nylon backing if you weren't trying to hide the backside of the closures? I always learn something new every time I watch one of your videos!
I agree with everything said about spending on tools and leather etc except the practising on strip's etc that don't make anything. I need to feel I'm being productive so practised on making every smoker I knew a lighter sleeve. I made sleeves and holder and pouches for each of my tools. Theres so much satisfaction and reward when you spend 20 mins of practice on a usable item. I still have them now and some make me giggle at how bad they were at the time. But if I just cut and sewed strip's that went to the bin not only was I a touch disheartened by my original lack of skill, it felt like it was a waste of time as it went to the bin. If you're a knife person, make each knife a sheath. Cover your phone, make basic bowls, pin cushions, straps to nail to a board for tool holders etc. These are so rudimentary in terms of skill but still really useful no matter how imperfect. Keep your passion going with little rewarding jobs that get you practising. These things keep you keen to make and practice with all your spare time.
An interesting and refreshing perspective with a wealth of good tips thrown in. I was intrigued by what you were saying about overseas labor and manufacturing without actually saying anything about overseas labor and manufacturing.
learn so much in this video. enjoyed the content. I feel so many thing related while watching this whole video. I must be one of the people who hope that you will continue hand stitching, forever, maybe?
Is there a good starter kit for stamping? A lot of the 20pc amazon/ebay specials look like 90% of the included stamps are... kinda useless? Like I don't think I'd be using a butterfly stamp very much? It surprises me that Tandy or Weaver don't have a cheap basic set for beveling/edge decorating?
i loved this video thank you for sharing very interesting will buy your tools when ready they look great and i love small business people who keep it simple keep up the great work cant wait for next video
Enjoyed this informative video! QUESTION: I've a +/- 50 yr old leather briefcase (which my dad made for himself, since he produced orthopedic shoes) which is dry, stiff, has dry rotted machine-made double stitching, and is in need of dyeing. SO- Dye first, then condition, or vice versa? Looking forward to more great videos and your response.
33:27 That's true, there are people who are best in designing but not as good in making stuff from their own project, people like you who are good at both and like me and my father. We are good at implementing technical assumptions resulting from the project and we can change it if necessary, but we're simply almost unable to design
Very cool video. You guys should do these more! Also, the answer to life, the universe and everything is 42. Also, I'm not sure if I've ever heard you mention it, but what cutting mats do you use or recommend?
A bit late to the Q & A party, but I have a question that maybe someone can answer... I have no experience in leatherwork, but am planning to at least try it out once the job situation gets better...but, I have noticed in all videos I've watched (from several different makers) that if they have a large sheet of leather, and need to cut out a large piece (say, 8" x 11"), they will mark the leather sheet _several inches_ from the edge, and proceed to cut out the piece, leaving a substantial amount of "scrap" leather. It's kind of like cutting out a shape in the middle of a piece of paper...it seems to be an inefficient use of material. Why is this so common? Is there a reason for it? Thanks in advance...👍🏼🙂
I totally concur with Matt Stones comment below! You are a very intelligent dude and well spoken as well as talented. Your videos and work are all such a pleasure and so inspiring (even if you don't want to be) :)) Memes are important too, haha. Thank you all for sharing!!
I was watching this video think that brass handle knife is just what I'm looking for. Every craft knife I've used is either to thin, not heavy, plastic to fiddly and then you pulled that box out. You should sell these immediately.
About not showing your face, I totally get you. My partner is the same and he had a channel because he loved painting miniatures, but never felt confortable showing his face.
This man knows a lot, is business savy, works on cars, shoots, likes to work with his hands, produces videos, has plants, flipped houses and much more. This, my friends, is a fucking gangster.
Did not expect that you watch bedo's man that's cool. I watch him because I want to make my own shoes and draw inspiration from some of his flare and how the colors play with each other... Then make a bag lol
I get what she meant by follow your jealousy. Like... Strive to be whatever it is out there that you envy. If youre a luthier and you love Martin guitars, strive to be as good or better than Martin. Look at what they do and try to replicate. Along the way you'll find what makes you unique
Funny, first video I saw (had) your face in it, and i had no clue you made amazing bags that look like (that) lol. Im sure that is entirely inverted from the norm! Im interested in leather work just for around the house and for gifts, not as a business, but great channel! I have watched a few of your Videos and have learned a lot. I am a woodworker, so thinking about making some forms like you had in the leather tray/bowl video... Anyways, cheers!
I think not showing your face speaks volumes in 2023. Social Media has become far to consumed with narcissists and seeking attention. You are interested in the art and the art alone, which I have deep respect for. I’ve subscribed and looking forward to watching your videos!
This is such a weird interest for me. A lot of my interest are adrenaline based, I daily a 1000cc sport bike, love firearms and exhilarating activities. But here I am, making wallets. I actually made about $200 in my first 2 weeks after supplies cost. All the other people I see around this subject are the more fluent type and I feel out of place. But it’s a nice change.

I thought the fact that you two were chatting while working on a project was lovely! It kinda felt like hanging out with some friends in the shop.

I loooovvveee that; "follow your jealousy". Makes sooo much sense.
Just getting started in leatherwork. Glad I came across your channel. And then the JM reference! Proud subscriber keep up the good work!
I just want say thank you for inspiring many new leather crafter like me with your videos.

@@juliemclean6743 only a tad?

Wow! What a wonderful ethos. Loved hearing you.
I like the way you do the question answer segment while making products.
Love this style of video. Great to witness your work banter. Love you guys so much.
P.s I’ll have one of everything with regards to the tools. ❤️❤️❤️
i like videos that don’t show their face when doing tutorial for handicrafts, cooking etc. that’s why i like your posts. direct to the point.

That’s awesome that you are still passionate about leather crafting and that you get to do it for a living. Not many people get that opportunity
Who would you recommend for ordering the logo stamps ?

This was nice... I came across your channel because i have a long leather skirt that i need to size up to fit me. And I like your stitches tutorials
This was great watching you work and hearing these answers love this channel thanks for all you’re time in making these vids guys
How do I get your tools? Brass cutter and diamond awl? Is the "Corter Pounder" ready for prime time. Came to this video half a year late.
Love the look of you’re tools it’s the least we all could do to support you’re free time in doing these vids
I enjoy all your videos but this one is one of the tops.
You answered that last question perfectly. Happiness

Please make a video on how to make quilted leather. Specifically that kind of quilted leather you find in high-end bags.
Because of your videos I was inspired to iniciate in this craft. Thanks a lot.
What’s nice about those punches, 6:48 is like strap, hole or other punches, it gives you a finished looking edge.
Oh my gosh.. I'm exhausted. I have several hobbies, but I think your days have to be more than 24 hours!
Wow, I'm truly impressed with all your videos. 👍Always a fan.🙂
Also, Count me in. I'm getting one Xtracto knife from you. Can't wait.🤗

I loved this video and it would be awesome if you could make a video about all of your first wallets and the story behind them

Aaah that brass xacto handle is on my wishlist!!!😍
I'm with you on the privacy thing. Im the type that wouldn't handle fame well. Thankfully I don't have to worry about it haha

As far as your choice to not have your face showing in your videos, absolutely respect that. Not a problem for me.
To install that latch/buckle you were hammering on, you could make a jig and use a press instead of a hammer.
This man knows a lot, is business savy, works on cars, shoots, likes to work with his hands, produces videos, has plants, flipped houses and much more. This, my friends, is a fucking gangster.

Hi. Are you taking preorders on the brass 'Exacto-style' knife handles, by chance?
Consider a couple of the knife handles sold when you are ready. Thanks for the insight into the parts not normally seen.

What would u call cheap leather to practice on .
Thank you . Master
I love these!
Beautiful bag! Is there a way to buy this bag?
If you want to see his face, just look at the surface of that beautiful burgundy leather...it's polished so nicely, you can almost see his reflection.
How do I purchase one of your brass handled blades?
Are those brass handle x-acto handles available to purchase?
This is such a weird interest for me. A lot of my interest are adrenaline based, I daily a 1000cc sport bike, love firearms and exhilarating activities. But here I am, making wallets. I actually made about $200 in my first 2 weeks after supplies cost. All the other people I see around this subject are the more fluent type and I feel out of place. But it’s a nice change.
My opinion - buy what you can afford to throw away while having fun and learning.
the only correct answer to "what is the meaning of life the universe and everything" is 42.
I was going to say the same thing!

Love the “Tool man Taylor” neighbor with never seeing his face. Keep it out of the public eye.
Great video!
Wow! Amazing!
I want one of those x-acto handles so bad!
ik this video s old but what is the name of this pattern i love it
How is the black stiffener thing called?
Where can I find that nylon backing. I been looking and I cant find it.
Great content.
