- A no-nonsense, plain-speaking review of these 2 mid-range tents. Don’t expect a long list of technical specifications; this review relates to how it would suit US as camping enthusiasts.

Good review on the physical attributes of both tents. Possibly a night in the rain for each would reveal a clear winner. I agree there is nothing like having enough room for your ‘gear’.
well i just measured my camp rig, it weighs 1 hedgehog and a squirrel fart, it is exactly 1 shoe and half a barbie plus a frog scrotum in length. awesome measuring system you have, so very accurate.!!!
‘Half a chihuahua’ 🤣🤣 - don’t tell Andy he’ll probably cook it
😂😂😂
Thanks Richard. Nice review and with “real” (sort of) measurements/comparisons. A sensible review! Agree with you on “fair weather camping”. I’ve camped through summer Lake District thunderstorms and severe wind storms, but now in my 75th year I’ll prefer to stick with better weather stuff. But these are too pricy for me... I’ll go with my two old Vango Force Tens for motorcycle camping. Les
Thank you Richard, looking forward to watching this 😊👍
Disclaimer. The manufactures would like to reassure the public that no chiwawa, or Octopus, were harmed during the weight comparison tests. They would further like to point out that the vets did successfully sew the Ciwawa back together.
😂😂😂
How many stitches does it take to sew a chihuahua back together? Lol.
got mine today via UPS its the 2022 updated version bigger internal net pockets more guy line tie outs on the main hoop sleeve lighter fabric anyway busy work wise today but going to pitch it on my front lawn to see how it is tomorrow morning. Just ordered the mesh interior as I have the solid version with more eastern stakes plus 60 ft of guy line and the same guy line locks as the scarp 1 so its all the same. Henry put a pack together for me today and it be on its way. it would of been more economical to order everything when i order my scarp1 but the eastern stakes were out of stock and still are so I sent Henry a message today and he responded straight away I placed the order for the mesh interior then added a note in the notes column on the order form and hey presto he added a
pack of 6 stakes from another tent added in the other items completed order and its on its way what a service. Really helpful company
Just subscribed to your channel, loving your work , great review on the Telemark 2 & Scarp 1.......I have a Scarp 1 myself and absolutely love it, I personally have the cross poles as I summit camp but your absolutely right in suggesting they're not necessary for a basic camp. I use the Scarp 1 for myself, my dog and all my gear, everything fits comfortably inside it. It might have been worth mentioning that the Scarp 1 requires seam sealing, something you need to do yourself, a simple and basic process. You will grow to love the Scarp 1 and no other tent will compare! Well done on a comprehensive, informative and humorous review, Looking forward to your next video.
Happy owner of Scarp 1 also, love to moon and back and no eyes for others :)
Great review, thanks! For my biketours i am absolutely satisfied with my Vango Nevis 200. Also a two person tent fitting me and my gear ;-)
Thank you, I have laughed so hard at your new measurement scale. I will deploy the Richard Scale when next ordering from the local hardware shop. May I please have five sixths of a rhino 🦏 of gravel 😂
I've got a vango. As I am old its far to heavy now , about half the weight of a transit van , also as a comparison I've got a baker tent go on have a guess 🤣🤣 brilliant Richard.
That has to be the greatest description of a way to save space between 2 people I have ever heard.
😉
I was a bit surprised at you describing the Scarp as bombproof! Every tent is vulnerable in the ‘wrong’ conditions ie in conditions that exceed the tent’s or the user’s capability. In the case of Hilleberg they use triple coated silnylon weighing 55g a metre on their strongest Black Label tents. Tarptent silnylon weighs only 35g a metre. Even Hilleberg’s lightest three season tents use triple coated silnylon at 40g a metre.
As you like.
excellent review I have been contemplating the scarp for a while now and you have tipped me over the edge
Scarpe 1 owner here, tents awesome. I’ve bought an extra tent pole bag. The x poles and the webbing clips live in there. If it’s snow load or above 50 mph winds. X poles set up. Majority of the time not required.
Great video. I have bought the Telemark 2.2 LW recently but not put it up yet. I bought it for ultra lightweight for multi day hikes and liked the fact the 2.2 has 2 doors for extra ventilation. I also have a Big Agnes Copper Spur HV UL2 which is not much heavier than the Tarp tent you tested. If you are looking for a great spacious tent for summer use I don’t think you can beat the Big Agnes. Check it out mate. All the best. Mark Horsebox 👍
Hi Richard great video good review on both tents thank you
Nice 1 - Good review Richard
I love the scarp but both great tents
I have tons of snow the other night in the scarp !!
Atb 👍🏽
Haha "five hamsters" and your own giggling at the weird reference had me laughing out loud
Hahaha "one 35th of an octopus" had me again
That was one of the best reviews I have ever seen and I’ve seen a lot , no messin straight talk , brillant !!
Much appreciated! Thanks!
Just because of that review I’m going to get the telemark 2.2 PU
Great tents and review. I bought that pump last week and used it over the Bank Holiday, blew 2 Trekology UL80s up in no time....brilliant bit of kit!
Thanks for a look around. I'm pretty tempted by the telemark. Got to subscribe after hearing 4:00 😂
Avoid. Terrible condensation!
@@RichardOutdoors thank you I did see another comment along those lines☹️
Great clear and informative review of both tents. Thanks.
Excellent review. Just ordered my fire trough :) very excited!
Great!!
For the Scarp, that is the Solid inner. The mesh one is 100% mesh. Great video.
Thank you for your review. I have been looking at the scarp 1 as I want a light 4 season tent as I live in North Wales and on the nicest summer's day can still get 50mph winds. Also hoping that my wife can fit in it on the rare times she can come with me, but worry it will be too much of a squeeze with my wide neo air.
Excellent comparison suggestions and great advice for new relationships :-)
I recently had a subscriber of mine offer to assist me with purchasing some gear from the states... Saved a small fortune on postage and potential import taxes. There's always a way. Cracking video 👏🏼🙏🏼
Good stuff!
Great video Richard, very useful indeed, thanks, I'm saving already 😂
Great review Richard. Your summing up of the two tents was spot on. All things considered, I think I'd plump for the Nordisk. I bought the Flextail gear pump some months ago and I have to agree, it's an 11 out of 10. Cheers Richard.
Loved the review. Maybe you could do a review on the insta 360.
What a fantastic review, thank you Richard 👍🙏
Very nice review, thanks Richard. To be precise I think your inner is the solid one and not the mesh..? 🤔
Yes. I think you’re right!
Ordered mine yesterday. CAN’T WAIT!!! 😅😂😂
I've used the Akto on and off for twenty five years having worn out the mark 1 and replaced it with the newer lighter Akto fifteen years ago. Bought the Scarp 1 six years ago for use on the Pacific crest trail, never needed the cross poles. The Nordisk is a good tent but I'd deffo chose The Scarp it's so much easier to live with doesn't seem to suffer with the condensation problems you get with the Akto or Nordisk so a no brainer for me.
If you know anyone in the US they can send it to you as a gift and you don't need to pay import duties on it
Love the video. Not sure what sort of comments your brother (aka Simon, a bloke in the woods) will make of your measurement 'system'. It would be good to see how well they both stand up to rain, because Murphy's Law saysthat bin this country it will tip it down even when the forecast says wall-to-wall sunshine.
Richard, your comments on both tents are spot on. Thank you!
On the Tiny Pump, would you say it is of durable material? Or would you have to take extra care not to damage it? I would expect it to last for 100 inflations at the least.
I very much doubt you’d get 100 inflations from the little chap! Maybe 6 or 7, but I expect there’s a more in-depth review out there.
It’s durable enough. I’d just treat it like you would your camera/phone.
Have this beaut and be out at least 20 times and still goin , it’s a great fire starter also
Sire Richard,,,One Fifth of a cat????? I've only ever compared things to Half a Cat.,,,,lol. Loved your review!!!!
This is a great review. Very useful. Cheers
Enjoyed the review Richard!
Hi Richard, on a more serious note, what model is the chair in the video? I'm looking for a lightweight chair for a five night backpacking trip and I notice that Simon and yourself both use the same design. Love the videos, looking forward to the next one.
Hi it’s a Trekology.
I like your reviews!!! Thanks!!
Middle pole can be tied out, one guy each side. I put Velcro on those inside ties.
I’ve always said, 2 man tent is one man plus gear. 3 man tent is two people & gear. Etc.
Though Hilleberg tents are better, the Akto is one person but loads of gear room. All their gear seems fit for purpose.
I have the Nordisk telemark 2.2lw, the one with two doors. It’s sold as a 3 season but I haven’t had chance to use it yet.
I’m looking for a 4 season tent for winter and am currently looking at the scarp 1 as it’s sold as a 4 season.
Do you think it’s worth buying the scarp 1 if I already have the Nordisk?
I found the Nordisk TERRIBLE for condensation; I sold it. Very happy with the Scarp.
I was waiting for this as super keen on the nordisk, however your real life review highlighted poor ventilation. Fine I should think for summer bikepacking, but spring/autumn adventures I feel it would be soaked inside in the morning
Possibly. I’ll be trying it soon.
@@RichardOutdoors even more keen to hear the outcome. Nice video btw 👌🏻
Hi Richard, You mentioned this is the mesh option, but it looks like the solid option when looking on Tarptents site. The mesh option looks like the whole inner is mesh with the bathtub floor, and the solid looks like your with just some mesh at the top. I think the Scarp is definitely the tent for me thinking about it even more
I'd be interested in the levels of condensation in both of them?
Nil in the Scarp. By far the best tent.
Great review, really like the scarp one. 😊
Which one did dolly prefer?
Which ever one had Ken in it.
@@RichardOutdoors ooooer!
Great review, Thankyou
Excellent review 👏
Hi Richard, would have loved the telemark in my latest comparison video of single hoop tents. Have a look and tell me what you think.
In practice, the Telemark suffered TERRIBLY from condensation. I sold it!
@@RichardOutdoors the horror, the horror... (name that movie). Still using the scarp then?
Hahaha. Great comparisons in size and weights.
Hello Richard. Could you tell me how you find the inside height (1metre) of the Telemark 2 re your height of “just under 6 foot”. Can you sit up in the tent comfortably? Thanks
Hi. Yes sit up ok. To be honest, in trial the tent had awful condensation issues. I wouldn’t recommend.
I think you need them cross poles ! Remembering your trips on those Scottish hilltops . They might come in handy. Thanks for the vid, good to see you doing well. P,s: How do you get a cat into a fifth, isn't the neck to narrow ? Smile.
Hi, yes good point but I'd prefer keeping an eye on the forecast and choosing an appropriate weather window....just a personal choice.
A good and imforitive video as always well done
Great review mate👍
I've got both tents and when I bought the Telemark it had an inner that didn't fit well. I should have returned it but instead I tried to alter the inner to fit but was not very successful. I used the tent on several occasions and each time the foot end under the long sloping side resulted in a wet sleeping bag from condensation as the tent just wasn't higher enough at that end. I have to say it is one of the worst tents that I have ever owned. On the other hand my Scarp 1 has always been brilliant and apart from its weight is the best tent I have ever had. I like a tent's inner door to fully open so I had one side of the Scarp's inner door modified to fully open, and have never regretted it. I have used the cross poles on four occasions and they keep the tent standing in near hurricane winds.
Yes. 6 months down the line I found the Telemark just terrible for lack of ventilation and resultant condensation.
@@RichardOutdoors Please post a review about that! I'm looking at a Telemark and all reviews seem happy with them - until you look in the comments where both viewers and youtuber have later on gotten tired of the condensation
@@ewik939 the new 2.2 telemark has an additional door and vent which has sorted condensation problems
Aha Job well done Richard
1/35th of an Octopus, huh? You know Richard, some times I worry about the way your mind works. 😉
HI Richard do you know where i could purchase a TELEMARK 2LW in the uk?
Hi Jough. I don’t. BUT, I wouldn’t buy it. After a couple of camps, it was the worst tent I’ve ever had for condensation. I’d not worry about saving a few grams and go for something cheaper and better.
Fifth of a cat. 🤣 I lost it at that point.
Ayia ! Bit hard getting a cat into a fifth. quartering one already ticks off the aspca, lol.
Awesome tent. 👌
Brilliant. Thank you.
You're very welcome!
I'm trying to get a tent for both mountain camping (must be robust) and long distance walking (must be lightweight).
The telemark with footprint is the same weight as the scarp 1.
Is the Telemark let down by condensation?
Which one would you go for, sir?
most people clip the cross-poles tie-downs, together
Cracking video Richard, new sub here 👌
Richard just found your channel your doing a great job with your videos any plans to join up with Simon again
You never know!
Daughter running around the house in tears, crying "I can't find my Barbie".
Wife crying ‘Have you seen the dog?’
Hello, can the tent be used for 3 seasons?
No. Just 4.
Five hamsters! EGADS! Yes, I agree with a previous comment that Andy would make a great stew! Ha! And you'd best specify how intelligent the human brain is for accuracy! Don't want to underestimate the weight! Hilarious, and helpful, review. ATB
How many hamsters does a fire trough weigh? The new bush craft weight measure of choice i think. But are you talking Russian dwarf hamsters or normal ones?
People always ask how big my Dachshund Loki is. She 1 1/2 dog's long and 1/2 a dog high.
🤣🤣
I think that might be the solid inner, the mesh one is literally ALL mesh
👍
@@RichardOutdoors at least I hope so as I’ve just ordered one 🤞🏻
I see you've joined the Andy and Simon postathon.. It's a god damn conspiracy!
Dissapointed in your tent review. Why? Because you didn't say how many barbie dolls they could sleep!! 😃 Enjoying your channel, keep the vids coming 👍
I know you skipped over the time taking down and packing a tent up at the end, but I think its just as informative to know how long it takes to take down as well as putting it up - especially if you've not done it before for that tent. Some tents are wrapped up like origami and putting them away in the bag it came in is a Mensa challenge.
They were both easy to disassemble and roll up.
Did you know, a fully grown tortoise can weigh as much as 1 tonne. That is equivalent to a very large tent.
Must be a Coleman.
I’ve just taken delivery of the Telemark 2, so relieved you consider it a decent tent even though your personal preference would be the Scarp. Had me in stitches with your chihuahuas and octopuses 🤣
How much the fed ex fee?
I’m sorry, I don’t understand?
How much was the fed ex handling fee when importing the tent, I recently looked into important a camp cot via fed ex and the shop could not tell me the handling fee for managing the import tax etc.
I’m afraid I have absolutely no idea how much FedEx would charge. It’s maybe worth asking them?
Ah sorry I thought you mentioned the charge in your vid. No worries I will go back to researching types of hampsters and there different weights.
Ok. Thanks. Yes, I believe there is a charge but I came about the tent through other means. Thanks.
All these "2 person tents" should be renamed 1.5 person tents in my opinion. but having said that the telemark 2 is a fantastic tent.
......apart from massive condensation issues!
Bit concerned WHY do you have a doll???
Could you not say it weighs the same as a grapefruit or something than 20 tennis balls etc
It’s called humour.
@@RichardOutdoors i think you have good sense of humour
Love the steak & cheese sarnie & bread you made. Love all the health & safety haha
Also love the stove
great :)
Excellent Richard🍷🥃🍺🍹☕️🍸
Even with the responsibility of remembering all those details, you didn't look too tense.
That works better said out loud. Not much better though.
Two tents. Geddit? Meh.
🤣🤣🤣
An African or European Chihuahua ? 😁🙂👍
Not even Taylor Swift ! 😃
🤔 incredible expensive - both of them 🙄
Well, mid-range as I stated at the beginning. 🤷♂️
Excellent really interesting thank you stay safe fella 👍😁👍
Got Andy and Simon to watch now 👍😁👍 great hour or so of viewing
