- Following over 4 months use of the scarp 1 I show you how to set up the tent and review it, offering my thoughts and opinions along the way. The tent is awesome, but by no means perfect. I've had a Scarp1 for 11years. Used over 100 times.
I'd suggest your erection sequence is the cause of your pole pitching problem. It's very non optimal way of doing it.
Put the pole in first before doing any pegging. (Maybe one temporary security peg if it's reall windy).
Pole inserted, hold the tent by 2 corner guys. Let wind pull it in direction. Peg those 2 corners .
Go to other end, take other 2 corner guys, lift and pull out whole tent away from first 2 pegs, give a little shaker with and then the whole structure of the tent is sorted straightaway. Peg thos 2 corners, then the straighten both centre struts and peg out . Tighten guys all round. Deploy main pole guys . Job done in 3 minutes.
The tent almost just puts itself up.😁

Cheers buddy, yeah the centre pole goes in loads easier when completely loose, the issue I have with that method is as it is usually windy and wet here in Cumbria when using your method the tent flaps and twists about, and the interior gets wet, next camp I'm going to try pegging the 4 corners much looser to see if that eases the situation, in good weather I use your method, but thought it best to show it pitching like that for the worse weather conditions 👍 thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it, atb Paul 🙏🏕️🏕️🏕️😁
I’ve had my scarp 1 for 5 year, it’s easier if you put the pole in first and then peg it out. If it’s is very windy just peg the windy end first, then the pole and then peg the other end.
I usually do that, however when it's raining the inside gets wet as it flaps about so both ends need to be pegged down to keep the inside dry, which is why I showed it pitching that way, thanks for watching, atb Paul 🙏🏕️🏕️🏕️😁

Hey buddy, a fellow scarp 1 owner here. Had mine over a year.
I think your making life hard for yourself pegging out both ends
I do one end into the wind, I’m with you with that.
Both ends no wonder you can’t feed the pole in, way too much fabric tension. I do agree it’s sticky when its wet though. Does make it a chuff.
I’ve never used my x poles, even in pretty fresh wind. Once tensioned the wind bounces off it. I would use them in heavy snow, or nuking wind ( but in a gale I wouldn’t go camping)

Cheers buddy, in calm weather I would peg one end down as you say, then do the centre pole. I camp all year round in all weather's, and in Cumbria it is often wet and windy, and when only pegging one end down the other flaps and twists, consequently the inside gets wet, which is why I've shown it that way in the video, I should have said that really to be fair. it wouldnt be so hard to push the pole thru if you did it before staking out. thats how tarptent shows it done in their setup video
I've been doing that for a while now, however in windy conditions you need to peg it out to stop it blowing around 👍 atb Paul 🙏 🏕 🏕🏕😁

Hey Paul, great video and to hear your thoughts on the scarp. I used it for 2 nights and love it. It's a sexy tent lol. I didn't buy a footprint as I don't want the extra weight so I got this polychro stuff which I will just put under where the mat is, just to protect the bathtub floor. I'm glad your enjoying it. Let's just hope it continues to stay that way. Will be using the scarp and soulo all this year and then give them honest reviews. I might do a look at video this week myself. Superb review Paul, great to hear the pros and cons of the Scarp 1. All tents should come seam sealed and with all guylines and pegs as standard nowadays, disappointing to hear you gotta pay extra, seems to be another money making scheme. Great review mate.. The Scarp 1 does look like a very secure tent indeed and really like the extra ventilation on the ends as the Soulo dosnt have that and is completely sealed down at the bottom with the snow skirts. Looks like a bit more of a time consuming tent than the Soulo that takes around 3 mins no wind or strong wind its the same. But looks like a the Scarp 1 has a few more decent features that the Soulo doesnt have and the room is ridiculous!! Although ant believe they dont give you everything you need to pitch the tent.
Lucy has done me quite a few cookset pouches made from old Hilleberg material, she does some awesome work would recommend Quintcraft 100%
But cant wait to see it in real life 😜

Cheers buddy, aye she's a sexy tent to be fair, and the ventilation is very good, just with the sides both went to the ground. It's not too bad to pitch, you can just peg one end in, which makes the centre pole easier, but in wind and rain the tent flaps about and the inside gets wet that way, I reckon about 6 to 7 minutes to pitch once you have the hang of it. I've never seen a Soulo in person so looking forward to that. Hope you are feeling better mate, atb Paul 🙏🏕️🏕️🏕️😁

Well you know my opinion on the scarp! Great review mate - agree on both the sides coming down. I'd like to see a DCF 4 season version with slightly different venting options (ie not mostly at the bottom) 🤯😁

It's a really good brand Paul. I've got my eye on the rainbow. This though is a sturdy light weight option for sure. Pitching always gets faster doesn't it? Once you used to the rough set up first and then the finer touches. I imagine you won't go back to the other clunky tents now. Well, thanks for sharing. Mark
Cheers Mark, yeah it's a really good brand, I've been tempted by a lanshan for a while now for summer, but really considering the Tarptent version 🤔 my pitching is indeed getting quicker the more I use it. Just can't get one, as they are always out of stock (no use to man or beast). So went for second choice and that is a Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 and was waiting for stock (when ever that will be). To be honest after this most excellent review; I don't believe I will bother to replace my Fjallraven Abisko Lite 1 as the standard supply and quality of Tarpent Scarp is below par.
Yeah I had a good wait for mine, the abisko is a cracker, although not as much room as the scarp. Having used the Scarp 1 for a while now I absolutely love it 😁 thanks for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it, atb Paul 🙏🏕️🏕️🏕️😁

@@ACumbrianladoutdoors Good review. What tent would you say is better value then, especially with maximum weight at 1,5 kilo and with solid inner? I am considering Scarp (without extra poles) vs. X-Mid 2 btw. The latter has a lot more space for two people, of course, but also has a larger footprint. The X-Mid has no-sagging poly, but also thinner materials.

@@ACumbrianladoutdoorsI believe Henry from Tarptent says the crossing poles are for heavy snow loading, not wind. He reckons they don’t make much difference to its behaviour in wind 🤔
@petergilbert72 That is correct buddy, however i can tell you from real world experience they make a massive difference when it's windy, and with the weight of the poles being so low, imho it's not worth setting the scarp up without them 👍 atb Paul 🙏 🏕🏕🏕😁
Agree with your and other comments below, tent should be seam sealed as standard, include all guys, pegs and groundsheet , bit cheeky to ask for what should be supplied in the first place.
From your comments im assuming you can only order directly from the manufacturer in the United States.
