Zwift vs TrainerRoad: Which is better for you? (Both?)

  • The video compares two indoor cycling apps: Zwift and TrainerRoad. Zwift offers a virtual 3D world with gamified features for competition and motivation, while TrainerRoad focuses on structured workouts and training plans with detailed data and analytics.
We suggest choosing the app that inspires consistency and drives smarter training. Zwift may encourage frequent racing and lacks easy rides, while TrainerRoad's workouts may be too hard for some. Both apps offer ERG mode and structured workouts. Zwift costs $15/month and TrainerRoad costs $19.95/month with a yearly discount. Ultimately, the best app depends on personal preference and which one works best for the user.
If TrainerRoad makes sense to you, at only $3.99/month you might want to give TrainerDay a try.

One of the things I like about TrainerDay is that you can incorporate a video into the training session. I like the feel of being outside vs. the "gaming" feel of Zwift. Nothing against Zwift, just not my thing. I use Bike the World videos on youtube. There are a few others as well. I think Garmin has one also. I have a six foot screen that I project to while riding. It has a very immersive feel. It works for me. Keep it going Alex. I think you're on the right track here. I've also created a few zone 2 and zone 5 plans that try to follow along the lines Dr. Peter Attia and Inigo San-Millan.

What would impede someone from listening to an audiobook with Zwift? I am lookong at options and this is one way i expect to indoor bike.

I'm a year-subscriber of TrainerDay, but I use it with Zwift, because the gamification of Zwift keeps me on the bike. All "just training" platform are not my way.

Need neither. Just a trainer, HR strap, a power meter and music.

It's a perfect way to train from my perspective. I guess you use some recording device and possibly something to control ERG if you are using a smart trainer?

@@TrainerDay I used to have a simple fluid redistance trainer for years. Now I got a Kickr Snap with a Garmin to control and record. I use resistance mode for training, using gears and cadence to vary intensity. Erg mode I basically use only for programmed ramp tests as its too difficult to hit the step power precisely enough at higher intensities. The powermeter is connected to the snap by ANT to accurately control resistance in Erg mode thus avoiding rolling resistance issues.
This setup allows to vary intensities quickly and avoid lot of programming. A cycling friend of mine uses Zwift. Each his preferred way. I still beat him any day with less tech involved 😉.

@@gerrysecure5874 Oh cool, if that works for you, it's a fine solution. You can do the same using our app if you ever want a bigger screen and a few other features, even our free app will do that but if you like all your data in Garmin connect than your solution might be simplist. We have stuff like programmable slopes, which is like programmable resistance. Anyway, sounds like you have a fine solution and the price is right :)

Thanks so much. I love it. I feel so dumb leaving this option out of the video. I mentioned I do it :) but I should have mentioned it is a great solution. They compliment each other very well. Meaning Zwift when you have a little time or want a little fun and TrainerDay is cheap as your go to product when you are in a huge hurry or for some people if they don't want to pay for Zwift during the outdoor season. Quick indoor sessions can be handy.

I'm a Trainer Day convert over Trainer Road.
Still use Zwift for racing though.
