  • The odometer worked for 10 miles after this video was recorded, then stopped and hasn't worked since. If I get this working, I'll post an update.

If you click on this video hoping to find a fix for the problem, think again. the poster merely messes around with his odometer, breaks a few things, and does not solve his own problem.

I was unable to repair this myself, and found a repair service on eBay. I shipped it and they did a beautiful job repairing it.
I will say your summary of my video is amusing; we await your post of how the repair is actually successfully done but, we won't hold our breath because taking refuge in witty comments doesn't actually get the job done.

I had an unusual problem that I m not finding anywhere on UA-cam. Intermittently my speedometer is showing like crazy hi speeds, kind of like the old cable driven ones used to. Like I wold be doing around 60 and all of a sudden the needle would erratically move up to around 100, then go down and bounce around 70. Really weird. The cruise control and transmission are shifting fine no problems, and the problem happens in any gear. ....1992 Crown Victoria. I think it's possessed, this car has had weird problems since we bought it. I have been slowly sifting through them. Does anyone know if there is a light oil that can be applied on motor / and gears on the instrument cluster if this turns out to be all that is wrong ?

So, what ended up being wrong with the odometer and what repair service did you use? I have a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria and the odometer (the same one shown in this video) doesn't move. The gears are in great condition and the speedometer works so it can't be the speed sensor (unless it is for some weird reason). I also resoldered the wires for the little electric motor shown in this video because the wires snapped when I pulled the electric motor out (must have been brittle or I was too rough lol). Your video was actually pretty helpful because it allowed me to see what I was getting into before I pulled out the odometer. A response would be appreciated.

My plan was, and still is, to post a video about the actual repair. I did not complete this repair myself because I realized once I was in the odometer/speedometer this was something I was more than likely going to make worse for the person I was going to actually have repair it. I knew locally there were very few options for me so I looked on eBay for an odometer repair service (I've used services on eBay before). I completed a form, paid the To/From shipping and repair in advance. Very specific instructions were given about carefully packing the item, and about 3 weeks later the odometer showed back up in the same box and packing material I packed it with, and it works like nothing was ever wrong. The speedometer itself now does do this little bounce when initially accelerating but smooths out (who knows if I caused this with my fumbling fingers or if this occurred during the repair). The business I used was Ezelectronics but I did a search for them on eBay and I couldn't find them. A quick google search does show they're still around (in New Jersey, I'm in Utah) but their web site (njspeedo.com) seems like there's something wrong with it. If you didn't want to go that direction (if I were you I would probably feel a little uneasy with them considering how wonky their site currently is), I did a quick search of "odometer repair service" on eBay, and there are others out there who I imagine would do just as good. As far as what was actually wrong with my odometer, that was never specified. I wanted my original odometer/speedometer (vs. a refurbished one) because my car has low miles, and the item is in great shape (like the rest of the car). I hope that helps, if you do get it repaired, either by your own hand or someone else's, you should update us here. Thanks!

@@GMRivieraZ24 The response is much appreciated. I'm going to replace the vehicle speed sensor just incase it is that since a new one is only $25. If that doesn't work I'm just going to take it to a local instrument cluster specialist. Worse case scenario the odometer is irreparable and I'll have to find a used one from the junkyard lol!
