I looked up in my rearview mirror and had a mini heart attack when I saw a white Crown Victoria. It was in that moment that I realized I was a dumbass, because my friend was following me back from the lot in my p71. I still feel like an idiot three years later.

I love my p71, it just has such a presence about it. Owning one is like becoming friends with that monster that lives in the woods, everyone is so scared of it, but to me it just looks so happy to be alive
Like most 22 year olds, I bought a used mercury grand marquis when it came time to replace my first car. I put over 200,000 miles on it over the next 10 years with total repair costs of $322.07 for an alternator and a tensioner. That’s it. Without question it was the most dependable car I ever owned. Looking back on it I’m actually getting a little misty eyed remembering the day it died. My own overconfidence replacing the thermostat inflicted a $1600 wound and I couldn’t justify putting that kind of money in to a car that was worth less than $500 even in superb condition. The panther platform was such an incredible machine I really think Ford could dig the stamping dyes out of the landfill, start building them again completely unchanged and sell a shitload of them. It’s a struggle to stop myself from buying another one whenever a clean example gets traded in at the dealership where I work. Ford really captured lightening in a bottle with that one.
Cannot understand those maths: 1600 for a reliable car, that you know through and through. No one else will or can sell you such a car for 500 except a close relative.

I just bought a 2004 grand marquis with a brand new injector ($1000), but the actuator is shot ($600) and the electrical is starting to go. Head lamps set on fire and windows/locks are becoming faulty. I love the hell out of this car and plan on replacing the transmission and modding the engine to give the car the balls it deserves ($10k 400+ hp). hector sepulveda I’ve spoke to a lot of cops and they say the charger is so much faster but not as reliable and to many blind spots. So most cops where I’m from like the crown Vic better.
Hank Hill true, Crown Vics are being replaced by Ford Explorers and other SUVs. All the old timer coppers still love em and always go for them when available.
@@guyshepard9658 I would buy a decomisioned Crown Vic Police Interceptor, put a P.A. and fake antenas to make it look like a cop car and scare the shit out of my friends. While i get the money get a 4.6 4V to supercharge it and technically.make it a Cobra terminator swap.
The problem was the price. Lots of "kids" would want one but at the price they sold for well its way cheaper to buy a P71 and modify it over the years into something even better than a stock marauder
They were 35k in 2003, which is kind of the problem with the panther cars. The fleet sales were amazing but because they were everywhere a brand new one would depreciate horribly. It pretty much always made sense to buy one used. I bought my 2003 Grand Marquis ten years ago for 10k and it's still going along nicely. They really are great cars.
You skipped out on why cops miss the Crown Vic so much. It's the seats. No new car comes with seats as comfy as the Crown Vic. Especially in leather, the car is a very comfortable road tripper
I remember when my parents and I went on vacation with our Crown Vic and we had to stop at every second motel just to not fall asleep 🤣🤣 I WANT IT BACK!!!
Yes, they are indeed comfortable if it is the soft kind. My 1989 LX has the stuff sofas use, and on the highway, it's a living room on wheels. But my main purposes for it is V8 power, durability, and "cop image".
One of the best part of my police academy days was driving the crown Vic. It was only for slow speed driving instruction and mock vehicle stops. But those used up trainer Vics were awesome. The high speed road courses were done in V6 Chargers. Those were pretty cool too.
I owned a 2002 marquis with dark tinted windows. No one would ever cut me off or pass me on the highway. When I was bored I would speed up and get behind people who drove like asses just to see them quickly slow down and move to the right lane. I also had numerous occasions when cops passed by and nodded at me thinking I was driving an unmarked cop car. I also had people standing on sidewalks give me the finger thinking I was a cop or a cab that refused to pick them up. I lost count of how many kids at my college would quickly throw on their seat belts when I drove by. The fact that the panther body is ingrained in people's psyche as a cop car gave me the most unique driving experience of any car I ever owned.... at least until one of the wheels literally broke off the car in a parking lot and I junked it.
@@kosycat1 the direct descendant to the panther platform is the ford foucus, lincoln also has form of the foucus and near the end of its life mercury even had one based on the foucus. its basically a front wheel drive unibody descendant of the crown vic.
I drove dozens of P71's, owned 2 and one P73 at a time and I wish I could own one today. These cars are the pinnacle of the all Anerican philosophy of what a car should be like.
Little did Ford know that in the years following 2011 (after they discontinued the CVPI) men in their 20's-30's would still be drooling over the Crown Vic, like myself, a lad from the UK who wishes he was privileged enough to be an American and owned one of these V8 beasts! They are the staple of American engineering, fast, loud, mean, muscle and those who are supporters of law enforcement love the CVPI even more, it is an iconic vehicle that will forever be engrained into the history of America.
I Was Born In 2006 So That Means When I Get My Drivers Licence I Might Not Be Able To Buy A CVPI (Crown Victoria Police Interceptor) But I Had Two CVPI's I Got In The Driver Seat The Beast Inside Roarded To Life As I Hit The Gas Thank God It Was In Park Otherwise I Might Have Gone Though The Wall
I'm from Saudi Arabia, and we love Ford automobiles! In 1999, My father bought '99 Mercury Grand Marquis. Everything is digital, even the speedometer; pretty precise measures.
I've driven pretty much anything you see on the road today from a humble prius to some ludicrous sports cars like a twin turbo v8 amg or a 700hp GTR, mercedes C glass, GLE, GLS, some beemers, trucks, old diesle, stangs and all that goodie. And I can tell you that my favorite car is my crown vic. The fan boy element plays a part but I just love how it looks and handles. Some people say its like a boat and clumsy, which is true compared to all the tight germany cars out there today, but personally I love the feel of driving. It's heavy so slow acceleration and lots of weight shift in cornering, but also very, very stable on high ways. I brought the thing to, well I'll let you guess, and she does not budge at all. I like how she tilts in corners, the live axle and watt linkage is pretty outdated compared to cars with independent suspension and fancy sensors, but along with the heavy frame it's a soft, pampering car ride that I just can't get enough. I do all the work my self sans inspection, clean her twice a week and there were only a handful of people who touched the steering wheel, besides me. This is what cars looked like in my dictionary. 60 miles commute daily and couple trips to other states, got her for less than a month and already put 3000 miles on her, never had a hicup. Turns right on, engine idles buttery smooth like the first day she rolled off the line. Probably due to it being a postal security service vehicle, instead of a K-9 or a responder which probably been driven much harder. I just can't get enough of it. BTW I am 23 years old. And fuck yes I want a grand Marquis. I would guess that when people like me die that's probably when these cars will truly start to disappear from the road. But as for now, I don't know about the other ones, but mine's still running strong. I'm giving her a lot of love and care, got under the chassis and undercoat everything I see(well not the tires and shocks of course), hand clean engine bay, pull all the carpets off to de-rust the floor(the left driver side was actually pretty bad), 91 and above only, tore apart doors to re do wiring and seals. If she needs a trans or engine rebuild in the future I will do that as well, as for now the tranny and engine feels like a new car. Educating myself a bit everyday about the car to make sure I have enough knowledge if it ever comes to it. My previous car is a v6 mustang, not a very responsible driver back then, constantly flipping people off and swirving lanes because I thought it's cool. The crown vic also made me a more responsible and better driver, not only because I care about the car so much, but also because the responsibility once belonged to the car somehow got into me as well. Still give out some fingers occasionaly to those unfixable ass holes but overall much better driver. Oh boy there were a lot of responsibilies on these vics, now she knocked some into me. Good stuff. Had 6 of em, 2 over 300k miles on 2 and still rollin, one of the toughest and most affordable cars to own and fix ever made, ive tested for years and can say that without a doubt. Would love to have one with a new 5.0 coyote swap and manual tran.
Consider the 6.2 sohc f series engine. The lowest rated truck trim engine is 385hp/410ftlbs on 87 octane. Cheaper than a used coyote and arguably an easier swap into a panther due to the alternator location on the coyote.
@Drew let me guess your a MADD member? Btw im sure it was a joke, if not im sure he learned his lesson and is joking about it. DUIs are harsh as hell punishment for sure, the irony is text drivers kill 6 times more people than drunk drivers but all ya get is a ticket if ya text and drive.
I would imagine a video about Crown Vics should have mentioned that the old ones came with the same 5.0 engine from the Mustang GT and was also offered as a wagon. Also the name "Police Interceptor" which is quite a staple on Crown Vics was never mentioned, specially since Police Interceptor (or P71) are quite beefier and have tons of upgrades compared to regular Crown Vics. Also failed to mention that the Marauders came with the Cobra's DOHC engine, which is quite worth mentioning instead of just saying "redesigned intake".
Not Cobra but Mach 1, it was the aluminum block naturally aspirated DOHC 4.6L that the 2003 - 2004 Mach 1's had (sadly the cast 6 bolt crank instead of the forged 8 bolt though.) The 2003 - 2004 Cobra engine was a much more stout beast sporting a cast iron block and forged internals.
Raymond Jameson My dude besides the underbody shit, only difference betweeb civilian and police cars was a grille, a spotlight, some door trim, and the decklid and tailights. Besides those three things, they're the same on the outside.
Disappointed in the lack of info. 2003 was a total revamp. Hydraformed frame, rack&pinion steering, and redesigned rear suspension. It became the only car with a 70mph rear crash rating!
These were among the last sedans you could get with the shifter on the steering column and no center console on the floor. Tons of leg room. Could even seat three people in the front (literally had three seat belts in the front). I live in a densely populated area and I see Panther platform cars all over the place every day (more Grand Marquis and Town Cars than Crown Vics probably) even though they haven’t been made in ten years. Amazing. And they’re usually in decent shape.
My collection of Greenlight Collectibles' cars started with a 1/64 Crown Victoria cop car, and I still have 2 of them in there (one Florida and one from California [both State Highway Patrol examples]) Just a bit disappointed at how GL are missing out certain accuracies on some of their more recent 1/64 Crown Vics though (no door trims on the Detroit PD and Orlando PD models while the real examples clearly have them and the FPS (HomeLand Security) example has a 1970s lightbar...)
that's nice. I'm looking to have either a Ford Ltd(crown victoria), a Crown Victoria, or a Lincoln Town Car. I'm trying to look for the 80's to 90's versions in good condition. Hope you find your dream car! Peace.
Its funny that AFTER the crown vic is discontinued that now 18-30 year olds want them mostly the interceptor and the crown vic gets this massive internent cult following. I think ford really missed out not making a ford badged performance version other than the interceptor. Mercury marauder is badass but the problem with mercury is it will always be seen as an old person car brand
They did have a performance vehicle. A company called Ford Performance Vehicles (FPV) in Australia made the FPV F6 Typhoon and GT R-Spec and normal Ford Falcons with Barra engines. Just seems like Ford didn't like its Australian subsidiary making a better car and wouldn't export them. Full sized family sedans that could easily compete with Mustangs, Hellcats etc. Even GM killed of the Holden Commodore (Chevy SS).... What's with the salty American car companies nowadays
@@ImplicitSilence Interesting though i meant a ford badged performance version of the panther platform/crown vic specifically its too bad we didnt get the modern falcon in N america though. My dad has a 60s falcon and a modern version with a fast engine would kick ass in fact he swapped a v8 into his when he was younger and it apparently was insanely fast you couldnt fit a super massive v8 under there (back in the days when displacement was the only way to get more hp but it had a super good power to weight ratio
I had a 92 crown vic, baby blue. Always kept it clean so people thought it was new, since they pretty much had same body style for so long. Got a lot of compliments from older people lol
Don't forget to mention their reliability . I used to have 1999 grand marquis after my father and now it's with my brother. It survived our harsh treatment even with crushing it twice !. I really admire this car.
I'm from the UK and for the best part of a decade I've longed for a Crown Vic. They are practically non-existant here in England. I keep saying "one day" I will import a P71 from the USA. I think this video confirms that "one day" needs to be ASAP. I need one!
Literally there are basically zero over here, apart from at just a couple of car shows, I've never seen one in this country. However, when I show people photos of a Crown Vic saying "I want one of these" most people do relate & reply with "ohhh, that's a US cop car, right?" :)
Ford's gonna stop making sedans and hatchbacks because they can't figure out how to build a car people want. Wake uo, we want Crown Vics!! The reason Chrysler has been crushing the American sedan market? Dodge Charger. Despite the drawbacks we do want fullsize sedans still. There's still a market for landyachts.
If they do bring back the crown vic it needs to be RWD body on frame. If they brought back the name but slapped it on some FWD volvo derived shitbox (im looking at you taurus) it would be a waste and sell poorly Also make a manual transmission version and a 4 wheel drive option
P77777777 That makes sense. I have to believe that pressure from the government and special interest groups led them to abandon these excellent, uniquely American sedans.
As much as it sucks to not have your grandfather, supe that bad boy up like he would'v wanted! Just remember, the Police Interceptor is a LOT different underneath than the Grand Marquis. Do your research depending on year. Some specific differences include - 04+ CVPI had a new 80mm MAF sensor and intake. Need computer tune to get that to work - All CVPIs got dual exhaust. -Spring rates and ride heights are different between the two -Driveshaft is aluminum in CVPI vs steel in civilian cars. Also tailshaft and transmission output shaft are longer Thats just a few of the big ones. My plan for my Mercury is to get a CVPI parts car and swap what is needed
I had the pleasure of renting a brand new marquis in 1998 and driving it from Kentucky to Colorado and putting 3000 miles on it. What a great fucking car
William Ricks High William, I'm a Williams. 1985 Crown Victoria LTD 5.0 was my first car, I was too stupid to own this poor man's Caddy. If you want your kids to appreciate honesty then lie to them, in other words say.

I recently got myself a 1988 Ford Crown Victoria LTD from a farmer in Rural Alberta. Loved and taken cared off . Runs perfectly and each and every light 💡 in the car works.
Crown Vics are great cars, I love my 2011. However, the Marauder had much more than just an intake. It had the DOHC version of the 4.6 Liter V8. The same engine in the Terminator Cobra Mustang, minus the supercharger that is. It was underrated at 302 hp, but put significantly more than that down on the dyno. During the first model year, buyers also recieved a limited edition Mercury Marauder Leather jacket too.
I figured the Terminator engine has different cam profiles, compression ratio, intake and exhaust manifolds, beefier internals, and the heads probably flow different. I was just keeping it simple for simplicity's sake. They're the same basic design. I didn't know one was iron and one was aluminum, although that makes sense. Either way the 4.6 DOHC is a great motor in whatever form, and it's the only stock version of the 4.6 that's worth a darn in the power department.
Closer to the "intech" v8 used in the Navigator from 1999 to 2003 but with the 4.6 displacement... The Lincoln Aviator was pretty much the exact engine in '03 as was the mach 1 Mustang if I remember right, it has been yesrs now and all of these csrs were down right boring when they were new, well to me at least. As for the engine "being not even close" that is pure horse shit they are all modular engines and are very interchangeable..... Ford finally caught on to what GM had been doing for 50 years prior with the legendary Small block and that is/was using the same engine family with different heads, exhaust, intakes and displacements in everything that wouldfit it. . To all you gay ass haters that commented above me. the Mercury Marauder was a cool csr but was high priced for a blacked out "cop car". Which actually wasn't true but it did use a lot of police parts. I actually wanted to buy one of these when I was 24 I think and couldn't get financing even though ironically I was a new tech at a Lincoln, Mercury dealership...
My grandfather died yesterday. I wasn't alive during the days he drove his crown vic in the 90s but my parents tell me so many stories about riding with him. He was constantly getting pulled over for speeding, always doing cool tricks, he really loved it. This car will be a legacy for so many, including my grandfather.
I just bought a second vic, it is a GEM! It is a 2011 police interceptor (p7b), it only has 36k miles and 293 idle hours! I did not get it for super cheap, but this thing is almost brand new. The body is in perfect shape, no scratches or dents, the interior is mint. I plan on holding on to this car for years to come. I had been looking for a low mile p71 for a while now that isn't crazy expensive I am so happy I finally found one. It came with the steel wheels & center caps, LED dual spotlights, a go rhino push bar, still has bars in the rear windows, laptop mount, and a bunch of other stuff! It also has cruise control which I was very pleased to see lmao.

Sad ending :(

Good stuff.

- All CVPIs got dual exhaust.
-Spring rates and ride heights are different between the two
-Driveshaft is aluminum in CVPI vs steel in civilian cars. Also tailshaft and transmission output shaft are longer

Evolution of cop cars?!
Cameron Ives they haven't
ivan the great hey you have halve my name, that's pretty cool!
Cameron Ives check out the video they just posted lol
the crown vic was my first car. definitely fell in love with various cars over time but seeing the crown vic fly, i really do miss it.
Watching this in my 2004 mercury grand marquis
I fine-looking car for a fine-looking lady 😁
I had a 98 Crown Vic, LX edition. It was a great car, big, comfortable and actually not bad on gas.
Only donut could make the crown Vic interesting lol
Daniel G: what about a twin turbo setup
The crown vic made the crown vic interesting
Vincent Martinez: you are absolutely right 👍
Daniel G nah bruh crown vic squad.
because cops loves donut
*DRINK... every time he mentions Post Malone*
Nah fam.... Drink everytime he mentions PANTHER PFLATTFORM!
Negative...
Michael Winchester, why did you even have to go there, come on man. Is that the only word you know how to insult people on the internet?

I own a 2008 Crown Vic P71 and it the greatest car I ever owned!!
Resilient hey i plan on buying one probably nexy year. How reliable is it? And does it drink up allot of gas?
Marcos Perez Perez, The P71 is very reliable & durable. I get a decent gas milage. It all depends how hevy your foot is. The parts are super cheap if need to be repaired. I get a Just so you know, be prepared for other drivers to think that your a cop and might start drving super slow in front of you...Before you purchase a P71, check the transmission, other then that its an amazing, Intimidating American icon.
I bought a 2010 Crown Vic formerly Police Interceptor from Ontario Police. Well, when people see me on the roads they often panic as I was a policeman.
Furthermore, I just love drive this car !
how do you buy a corwn Vic from police station?
@@billshat7477 they get auctioned off, you don't buy them directly from the police station though.
I love my 2000 they are solid cars cheap muscle cars too very reliable.
I had a 2005 Crown Vic! It was so much fun to drive. It was gifted by a family member who bought it from an ex-undercover cop, and it was unchanged in terms of all the modifications made for their needs, ie. no inhibitor ;) and it was burgundy. I do not like driving automatic cars, but that car was frickin’ awesome. However, people slowing down in front of me because they thought I was a cop was annoying (8:17).
Great video. I know it’s old, but I wanted to share my love for my cruiser.
