Had an 85 Grand Marquis. It was mint. White with red velour interior. My wife spun out in the rain and wrecked it. We were then gifted a 2001 Lincoln Continental. Not mint but ran great. She wrecked that one too. I then bought a 2005 Grand Marquis with 76,000 miles on it from the estate of a little old lady, 98 yrs. old, who passed away. The car is perfect. Needless to say, my wife will never be allowed to drive it.

I daily drive a 2000 towncar I bought 7 years ago for 300 bucks. It was a retired Vet who long longer had use of his legs and had been sitting in his driveway in south florida with a widow stuck down for 2 years.
All I had to do to get it started was put a new battery in it. It was surreal watching the air suspension blow itself back up. Since then, All I've done outside of basic maintenance is replace a fuel pump and swap out the air suspension bags with a set of monroe struts after a few years since they developed leaks. Collectively this has cost me 500 bucks in repairs and has given me nearly 50k miles and is still going strong.

Stole it from a charity...it would be ironic if the owner died in a fuel tank fire that has killed so many cops.
Odd that Scotty is unaware of this, he certainly should remember all the lawsuits that were paid by Ford to LEO's in every state.Unlike the Pinto, the Panther fuel tank fix was prohibitively expensive.

In 2013 I bought a used 2002 Mercury Grand Marquis, it had something like 57,000 miles on it and needed a couple things but I got it for $1K. I drove it another couple of years and put 50,000 miles on it and never really needed much more than the coil packs, a tune up, brakes and an exhaust. I drove it in a bunch of northern NY snowstorms, even had a set of tire chains for it which I only ever needed once, and drove it through 4 plus inches of snow, and never did get it stuck. The darn thing was a workhorse. I sold it to a woman in her 20's, she bought it from me and drove it from NY to Florida without an issue. From 2004 to 2019 I worked for my local sheriff's department and of course, we had Crown Vics, but not all of them were the Interceptor package, some were just off the lot standard V8 Crown Vics. They were driven everywhere in all weather and kept going. Then around 2007 or so the new sheriff wanted to modernize the fleet so he got new Impalas. They all crapped out or had major issues within 2-3 years. We had one with 28,000 miles on it, the brakes failed, the wipers wouldn't turn off and the turn signals never seemed to want to work. I remember when I first started, we were handed down a 2000-2001 Crown Vic that had been through five departments before it got to us, had 160,000 miles on it, but we drove it for a year before it got sent to another department. They were just a well built car.

Drive the cheap car to places like the grocery store where it will get door dings, keep the miles down on your new car. Also, if your insurance company has a multi-car discount, it might not cost much to insure the extra vehicle.

All of them excellent and the rear main seal begins to leak at around 250,000 miles on the 4.6 Liter, even if you change with synthetic every 3,000 miles. My wife did not like the fact it left spots in her relative's driveway. I will buy a 2010 or 2011 next, perhaps with 80,000 on it and drive that for another 10 years. The best car. Mine had porosity in the fuel rail, the pretentioner failed in the seat belt retractor, the heater diverter door motor failed, AC compressor but that after 14 years all common issues with these cars. @NoneofYourbusiness-s8f 2 роки тому

That's right! Dumb Ford didn't put a drain plug on the transmission pan. I bought an aftermarket pan with a drain plug. All you gotta do is lay flat down and stick your hand under there with a long socket wrench and pop that bolt off and BOOM, you're draining fluid. Don't even have to jack it up. I'd change the fluid every 500 miles 3 times and then let it be for 30,000 until I was ready to drop the pan again. That was my way of manually Flushing instead of ruining the transmission flushing with one of those machines hooked up to the intercooler lines.
