As someone who loves this figure, and considers it pretty definitive, the only thing that would elevate this figure is a smiling headsculpt. I understand he doesn’t smile much in Hush, but still…
I only wish this Superman had a smiling head sculpt, I know that he’s from Hush and the whole Hush storyline was dour but a smiling head would have been a nice addition for the Superman fans. That way you get those classic happy flight and arms akimbo poses where he’s looking up looking like the Man of Steel.
I love this Superman, it's close to definitive other than the Hush-isms. A more saturated yellow for the belt and symbol would be nice, and one of the key things companies seem to hate -- a smiling head. If it had those things, I'd be happy never owning another Superman figure.
I agree with you on all points. This is a truly great Superman figure. That being said, I’m a big fan of the MAFEX The Dark Knight Returns Superman. It’s much more stylized to match Frank Miller’s art, but I love it. It's quite possibly my favorite 1:12 all-plastic Supes.
Thanks for reviewing this figure. I love the figure so much I have four. I made a custom out one by shading it with black with a custom cape. I believe this is the third re-issue. The one issue I had with two of them the wire for the cape comes out from the chest plate, and its not easy to fix.
This is my favorite Superman. I like the Dark knight returns Superman but for me personally it’s very specific to that look. This Superman can fit in most DC 1/12 collection
He looks great! I think the only Superman that will top this one, is taking this mold and giving him brighter colors with the Dan Jurgens style face. We need a comic accurate Superman specifically for the Death and Return of Superman. Otherwise, this one definitely is a top-tier figure.
Quick note on the scaling. It’s really weird but the OG Hush Superman is actually slightly slightly taller than the reissue and is the same height as Batman. I know it sounds ridiculous but yeah it’s a real thing😂 I believe they made some adjustments to the torso because on the OG figure u can see all 6 of his abs when he’s in a neutral stance and with the reissue it’s not fully showing.
I had this Superman and replaced him with the DKR Superman. That Superman is obviously based of that specific comic, but it has a lot more bulk and pretty much the same articulation. Fudges in a lot better with other 6 inch lines like legends.
Unrelated but what are your thoughts on those new Street Fighter Alpha figures from Storm? 25-30 bucks, 1/12th scale, and they kinda look like modern SOTA toys. Very promising…
@@suhtangwong It's a new subline from them seemingly in either a domestic or true 1/12th scale (definitely not normal Storm size either way) at a much cheaper price but still really sharp looking
Not the guy whose answer you are looking for, but thank you for bringing me up to speed! I checked it out and I am personally excited for the line. Love the Jada Toys versions but definitely appreciate the style Storm is bringing too. Definitely want to see some size comparisons! But will likely end up collecting both versions 😅
I have the V1 and the V3 of this figure. They actually made slight changes. The cover for the butterfly joint on V1 is actually a bit bigger and makes the chest look more seemless. For an overall aesthetic, I prefer the V1. I just wish the logo on the cape for that one was complete.
I love this figure. I'm not too sure on the Batman torso gap, but I'll check when I get home today on both. I too also hate the plastic between the legs.
Honestly, I think Mezco’s 2.0 Superman is the absolute best. Best articulated, best array of accessories, and best bang for your buck. It also can share head sculpts and accessories with their Recovery Suit Superman for even more playability. In my opinion, you can’t beat it!
I have the first release of this Superman figure I like everything that's on it. The one thing that I did not like was that the skin tone is not as fleshy colored as the Mafex black suit Superman.
I have the first release and I have to say colors on this one is much more vibrant. It sucks cause I don't want to spend another $80 for the same figure. Great review tho I agree 9 out of 10 for sure.
I don’t care for Superman but I felt he’s such an iconic character that I’ve always had at least one around, so I did pick this re release up because I felt like I’d never have to get another one.
Couple of issues i have with this figure that could have been really easy fixes: 1) no smiling head. Superman should be hopeful, so i think thaf most general versions of superman (especially $80-$100 ones) should come with a smiling head. 2) the yellow on his insignia and belt. Theyre too pale. Not a huge deal, but they feel kind of bland. 3) his lats really inhibit his arm movement a lot more than i think they should. They look good, but he has a lot of trouble moving his arms back. 4) over time, his joints feel pretty squeaky. Not great. 5) for some reason, one of his legs is longer than the other and that is the biggest issue of them all. It bothers me so much that he looks like he's leaning no matter what you do, it drives me absolutely nuts. This is also an issue on the cape, which is not as big of a deal, but one side is longer than the other. I dont want to make it seem like I hate this thing, I really do like it, I just think Mafex could have put it through a bit more QC to churn out a cleaner, more complete product. Especially for a character of Superman's caliber. I know it seems like I'm biased based on my pfp, but I've had this for like 15 years and I just dont think I'm gonna change it at this point.
Batman uses the exact same body as Superman though :D except the chest plate, which they use to cover the wires being anchored in Supe and the shoulder cufs are more sunken in on Superman. Otherwise its exactly the same body and parts. The same gaps, same arms, same legs. Maybe the colour and light makes it look different, but its not
@@AnthonysCustoms of course they are. And the black batman is exactly the same, outside the color. The cape is exactly the same and always was. And the knightfall batman has exactly the same legs and arms, with only the chest and abdomen retooled. Take the batman and superman in your hand and mash them together and look at the curves and details in the arms, biceps, legs, torso. Its the same body, always was. These came out originally more than 4 yrs ago, its not a mistery to be solved
I don't think you understand what the same means. There may be some of the same parts but the figures aren't the same bodies. Heck, even the reissue of Superman isn't the same as the first one. There's more to the figure than just the sculpted parts... Which aren't all the same anyway.
@@AnthonysCustoms They're the same parts, with small adjustments to suit the characters, like batman has fins on his forearms. But the way Mafex did is they took the same arms they used for both figures and one has fins, the other doesnt. Its the same base body, other than something like this, and the boots, they havent altered them in a way that would make one figure amazing and the other bad. Mafex did this body 4 and something years ago, then they used it for multiple figures. Superman has the torso more sunken in compared to the original release, but its still the same torso. My point being that Supe has the same torso and gap as batman. You can even see the same muscle line sculpted at the side of the pec muscles. Its the same gaps, the same positives of one figure should also be on the other. Its just the light/colours that might give the impression Supe is different, but its not
This is the only mafex that I have in my collection. I got it cause I really like the look of the figure. But that's it. It's too overpriced for what it is. Basically no accesories, and pretty average articulation. And the cape is not that good. Actually is probably even bad. And the guy is short. I have the Amazing Yamaguchi Supergirl right next to him, and she is taller. I mean, if I have the possibility to get the AY Superman, I will throw this mafex away. The good look doesn't justify the price, imo.
because you always call out, and rightfully so, ugly elbow and knee articulation, what figure do you think has the best looking elbow/knee articulation?
