I’ve been a Mets fan for nearly 4 decades, and I’ve never seen this footage and watching it for the first time, I have the same feels I had experiencing similar moments live during my childhood. Sincerely, thank you for that.
you can see how happy the players were, players are happy if they win nowadays but it is not with the same emotion as baseball is a business and it was still a game in the 80s
Where were they hiding this all these years ?! The greatest and toughest team in sports history !!! 1986 NEW YORK METS The Team that REFUSED TO LOSE !!
Another boneheaded trade by the NYM. Michell should have been a Met for life. Then they turned around and traded Roger McDowell, Lenny Dykstra and Mookie Wilson for garbage in return. M. Donald Grant would have been proud.
@@duaneaponte696 I still shake my head at those awful trades of the late 1980’s. Remember the last game of the 1989 season when Greg Jeffries grounded out to end the game and immediately went after Roger McDowell? I se that in real time and clearly was the height of the Mets dysfunction.
And who would of thought at that momenet that would be the last time mitchell and more importantly Knight would wear a met uniform. How do you not bring that exact team back as special as it was for the next year?! Team was never the same after losing knight and may of been a big factor as to why the 87 and 88 teams were just lacking that little something special and totally under achieved.
And equally as important as letting Ray Knight #22, go to Baltimore was that his replacement was basically kevin mcreynolds #22. I know that they played different positions. Knight and McReynolds were as opposite as can be in terms of attitude, Knight was about team and winning. McReynolds was about shooting ducks in the off-season. Hold on though, this trade was much worse than what was seen on the surface. It also cut into the playing time of Lenny and Mookie and opened up 3rd base for Howard Johnson. Hojo was a good player but he wasn’t the winning team player that Ray Knight was or the spark plug that were Nails & Mook. So basically the difference of 1986 and 1987 is that 86 gave up major Team SPIRIT. KNIGHT, half of Mookie, half of Lenny and all of Kevin Mitchell to bring in (I don’t give a damm about winning) Kevin Mc and a full time Howard Johnson. And that is the difference right there, my Fellow long suffering Mets Fans

Gary had the greatest smile and loved the game and true hall of famer..
I was 11 in 1986 when this happened I am 50 now I wonder if I am ever going to see this again.
OOH, AMAZING FIND! The 1986 Mets were a team of destiny. From being one strike away from losing the WS, to winning it all...
I'm watching this as emotional therapy in May '24 ... LFGM 🍎 🗽 🧡 💙
We had a gig that night. You kept giving score updates after every song :)
😂 like when they interrupted the G-Men (who won the SB that yr themselves) vs Skins gm
What a team the mets had that year. It was certainly something special.
I miss Gary

Great for Garry he's the man
I had to subscribe simply because Louie posted this gem. I was 25 when this took place and I'm STILL waiting...
To think that Kevin Mitchell was traded because management thought he was a bad influence on Darryl Strawberry and Dwight Gooden.
Yeah Mitchell didn't drink or take drugs or have a rap sheet.
And he goes on to be the NL MVP in 89 with the SF Giants.

Worked with Marty Barrett's younger brother Joe in and Indiana casino. When I found out who he was I wore my Mets gear everywhere he was.
There are quite a few people from this clip that are no longer with us.😢

I'm from L.A. and I remember my Dad telling me at that time that the Mets made a big mistake in letting Ray Knight go

@@summerboy1976 Nailed it! Great points
The glove never came back down
The cocaine mountain was a mile high that night.
I never seen this footage.
I went to game 4 !!!!
Why was the parade the very next day?!?
Game 7 was originally scheduled for the day before this so was a rain out -- otherwise would have been two days after Game 7.
I went to the parade that Tuesday. It was insane!
its really too bad that the mets would be chokers after this!
It's really too bad for you though that nothing will erase the 108 win 1986 World Champion Mets!
@@94champs yes of course but they also should of easily won in 87 and 88
