    Watched all year long and never missed a pitch throughout the series. The memories these guys gave us have lasted a lifetime. So great to see this footage as I had not seen it before. Loved all the guys and especially MOOKIE! He was so fun to watch all year long. The kid could play ball. Gary left us way too soon and still makes me sad. Thanks for the best memories of my life. Every player on that team came to play each time. Amazing group of guys.

    Was 14 years old. Started as a fan in '80. '80-'83 were some baaaaad times. Heard that we had guys like Gooden and Strawberry in the minors. Came close in '84 and even closer in '85. '86 will always be a special year for me. Mets in October and Giants (granted early '87) a few months later. Only sad this is seeing Gooden. Wish someone would have pulled him aside that night and warned him to stay away from the coke. Missed the parade the next day and was the start of bad times for him. He could never get his '85 form back again. Team was too talented to only win on chip. Hope springs eternal that we do it again...maybe soon?

    At the beginning of October in 1986, I had just been diagnosed with stage 2B Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
    That wonderful Mets team helped me to get through the initial stages of a cancer diagnosis, through the testing and analysis, and finally to beginning chemotherapy and radiation in early November.
    I will always be grateful to the Mets for lifting my spirits and making me smile during that time.

    And who would of thought at that momenet that would be the last time mitchell and more importantly Knight would wear a met uniform. How do you not bring that exact team back as special as it was for the next year?! Team was never the same after losing knight and may of been a big factor as to why the 87 and 88 teams were just lacking that little something special and totally under achieved.

      I'm from L.A. and I remember my Dad telling me at that time that the Mets made a big mistake in letting Ray Knight go

    • @summerboy1976
      @summerboy1976 7 місяців тому +2

      And equally as important as letting Ray Knight #22, go to Baltimore was that his replacement was basically kevin mcreynolds #22. I know that they played different positions. Knight and McReynolds were as opposite as can be in terms of attitude, Knight was about team and winning. McReynolds was about shooting ducks in the off-season. Hold on though, this trade was much worse than what was seen on the surface. It also cut into the playing time of Lenny and Mookie and opened up 3rd base for Howard Johnson. Hojo was a good player but he wasn’t the winning team player that Ray Knight was or the spark plug that were Nails & Mook. So basically the difference of 1986 and 1987 is that 86 gave up major Team SPIRIT.
      KNIGHT, half of Mookie, half of Lenny and all of Kevin Mitchell to bring in (I don’t give a damm about winning) Kevin Mc and a full time Howard Johnson. And that is the difference right there, my
      Fellow long suffering Mets Fans

      Knight wanted a bump and he had a right to ask for one and the Mets felt HoJo could handle third. To me that's not as big a mistake as trading Mitchell and bringing in McReynolds. I liked McReynolds but he was an AWFUL fit with the Mets. Mitchell could play 7 positions and could hit for power.
