Ahhh heck yeah. Glad to know you're planning to read Faithful and the Fallen! I read that two years ago maybe, and I reminisce on that whole series a lot. Lots of memorable character relationships and plot events. Thanks for the news segment, I really enjoy those. ☀️

I see the faithful and the falling in a lot of peoples bookcases, but I don’t hear too much about it. Thank you for giving me some hype to read it!!
I honestly don’t know what normal people talk about other than the news 🌞

@PoorPersonsBookReviewer I actually just changed up my reading goals last month, I put a pause on focusing on novels and am focusing on poetry, reading, and writing it.

☀️ I just got back from Vegas, the heat was fucking awful. Unlivable. I couldn't wait to get my ass back up North. I'm also looking forward to reading the Culture series and that Miranda July book based on your recommendations.

We’re running out of places to hide from the heat
You wont be disappointed with the culture,
all fours won’t be for everyone but i really did enjoy it (something different I never read before)

I'm glad you enjoyed Gormenghast so much!
Hopefully you have a better time with Faithful and the Fallen than I did, that series just didn't work for me at all.
Three-Body's great, I keep forgetting to watch the first season on Netflix - haven't really been in a rush because the books blew my mind and I'm hesitant for that space to get shared with something else, lol. ☀

I really do owe you one for the Gormenghast recommendation.
I’m looking forward to the next series I got lined up. I’ll probably never watch the Netflix series but from what I heard it wasn’t very good, and I’m really hoping I like John Gwynne , I hate to get rid of un read books. I’ve learned my lesson about buying whole series at a time lol 🌞

    two of your videos today!
i love your reading advice. it's true that we make time for what we value. if you want to read, then you have to make time for it. simple as that.
glad you liked the final book of the "titus trilogy." based on your positive take, i will read that this week. i'll get back to you on what i think
i liked timothy egan's book this immortal irishman. it was so good! i've come across that big burn book at goodwill but i didn't pick it up. i'm with you, though, 'cause i don't want to read about how wonderful a president was. they're all crooks!
isn't it wonderful to think that ALL of the culture books were excellent? finally, a series that does not disappoint. it was super sad that banks died, especially relatively young, and as a result we can't bet more culture books. but, then again, he left us ten amazing books. i'll take it! if i had to pick my favorite, it would be look to windward because of its connection to consider phlebas and its themes like atonement.
oh, gosh. i never read introductions because they often do spoil the plot of a book. another great piece of advice, methinks.
as i mentioned before, you have a version of dickinson's poems which were not how she intended them to be published. her family "fixed" the poems before publishing them because they thought, for example, that dickinson's use of capitalization and punctuation was strange. it isn't. it fact, it's very important to the meaning of the poems. for example, here's how she actually wrote the poem you read:
The Soul selects her own Society -
Then - shuts the Door -
    To her divine Majority -
    Present no more -
Unmoved - she notes the Chariots - pausing -
    At her low Gate -
Unmoved - an Emperor be kneeling
    Upon her Mat -
I’ve known her - from an ample nation -
    Choose One -
Then - close the Valves of her attention -
    Like Stone -
compare it to your version and note the differences. poetry is one of my things and this poems is so amazing. for example, notice how the last line only has two syllables and breaks the pattern of the last line of the previous stanzas which all had four syllables. why? well, as the poem says in the penultimate line: the valves are closing. isn't that amazing? the meter mirrors what the poem is saying. brilliant! dickinson's poems all have many layers. keep reading and enjoying. and sharing!
you are going to tackle war and peace? well done! i read it many years ago but it was very good indeed. you have to immerse yourself in it. lots of characters and stuff going on. you will get lost in it in the most wonderful way
i've come across those gwynne books and been tempted but....haven't been able to commit to them. i'll be curious to hear your take on them. i'm surprised you got all four. what happens if you don't like the first one? just wondering!
oh, the three-body problem. i read the first one and wasn't interested in reading further. people foam at the mouth about how great they are. i thought the first one was meh. as always, looking forward to your take
i'm cuban and wish the united states would just mind its own business where cuba is concerned. look at what you've done! you've made me comment on the news. i'm a bit of a news junkie but need to cut back because it just makes my blood boil. a waste of time? perhaps. certainly, i need to spend LESS time watching and reading news.
i lived in africa for years and years and let me tell you the western powers have raped the continent for profit. it's been great to see some african countries finally tell the west (like france) to get the f*ck out. there should be more of that
i hadn't heard about the allegations against gaiman. ugh. i wonder if it's true. i don't like gaiman's work but we need to be careful when passing judgment on people. too many men have been smeared unjustly with similar accusations.
heat? i'm in vegas and we reached 120 this past week. crazy hot! i'm staying inside with the air con going and a good book by my side 😄
take care and until next time.....
