John Lithgow is a fantastic actor. The only other actor I can think of who can convey both goofy silliness and pure evil as well as he can is Bryan Cranston. It's like they went to the same school.

I was devastated when I saw that Trinity had killed Rita, I kept hoping it was just Dexter's imagination of what would have happened if Trinity had gotten away. But needless to say, one of the best seasons!!

I was crushed on that final episode when Rita was dead. I know it's just a show but I lost some sleep on that one. Sweet Rita. It made me cherish my girlfriend a lot more.

When Lithgow is talking about how they took a "goofball" character and flipped him into an evil human being. All I could think of was Bryan Cranston's portrayal of Walter White in Breaking Bad. Lithgow as Dick Solomon flipped into the Trinity killer. Cranston as Hal in Malcolm in The Middle flipped into Heisenberg. Both portrayals are fucking legendary.

I'm late to the Dexter party as I started a few weeks ago with nEW blood and watching the original series alongside it...Season 4 is one of the greatest pieces of television i have ever seen.
He had lymphoma cancer during the time. The chemo caused the hair loss. you can actually see his Golden Globe 2010 speech where he is completely bald and wearing a beanie. But all is good. The cancer he had was very treatable.
Love these two sitting down talking , what a pair. Cried so many times in this season , wheered when dexter tackked Trinity in the kitchen at thanks giving

I HATE that she's gone. I loved Rita and Dexter together. Those will always be my favorite episodes. The writers said that Rita's representation in the show is as Dexter's tie to humanity. By having her killed, Dexter has now lost his humanity. . and its technically his fault that the one innocent part of his life has been merged with the dark part. I think it was an amazing season but I miss Rita!
I remember when I first saw the finale. My jaw dropped when Dex called Rita and heard her phone ringing and just started saying to myself "nononono" and just stared at my screen after the credits rolled so confused lol.

I initially kept thinking about John Lithgow as Reverand Shaw from Footloose but due to his incredible acting ability that quickly dissipated. The incredible chemistry between these two actors made for a fantastic season.
John can be terrifying .what a great actor and M Hall.. together in this season made for some top acting.. the way they played off each others character was brilliant!

They didn’t :( 9 was a decent season and you choose to turn a cheek to all the plot holes along the way but the ending was true and utter garbage and makes you realize the whole season was nothing but continuity errors. Even the freaking lumberjack ending was better. Jesus Christ

I have not watched any episode of dexter after season 4. From what I keep hearing, John Lithgow and the Trinity Killer have set the bar so high, that there's nowhere left to go. I keep hearing disappointing things about the next seasons. I'm kinda scared to watch any further.
I think you are correct, and if you didn't go on with the knowledge that it peaks at the end of season four, you would just end up being disillusioned. That being said, go on and watch the rest, because there is a lot of story that changes Dexter and Deb's relationship. So there are some awesomely shocking moments, but the show ends... they leave it open ended because they want the option for a movie. :P

I did exactly what John Lightgow said he thought people would do. I rewinded to the scene where Dexter kills trinity after I saw the scene with Rita's death to see if there were any hidden messages. It was really intriguing.
That ending was a shocker. I didn't see it coming at all. But it was so great because of that. It was definately fitting, a huge risk on the behalf of the producers and an awesome twist, opening all these possibilities for the next season. Can't wait.

Michael C. Hall is one of the best actors on TV today. Anyone that can go from a gay funeral director(/Six Feet Under) to a very likeable serial killer the way he has, is amazing. He took each character to the max. My favorite actor to date.

Trinity was the most unsettling when it came to Dexter's adversaries. Lithgow was perfect.

I'm gonna miss the presence of Rita on the show. She always felt like home. It was comforting to know Dexter had some semblance of normalcy in his life. Wife and kids and baby. Now he has no one to love . . . . . and the baby to worry over. =( I hope he gets through alright. S5's gonna be a real crazy ride. O_O
Michael C. Hall is one of the best actors on TV today. Anyone that can go from a gay funeral director(/Six Feet Under) to a very likeable serial killer the way he has, is amazing. He took each character to the max. My favorite actor to date.
In the revival I hope John Lithgow comes back in a dream sequence.
