Ledian does have one niche use that makes it one of the best picks... in Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Red/Blue There are a few 99 Floor dungeons in the post-game that set all your pokemon's level to 1 at the start. Ledian is actually one of the best choices for these dungeons. Not only does it level up fast, but it also learns Comet Punch early. Bro! I was just happening to play WoW battlegrounds while listening to this video in the background. You can't do me dirty like this with those sound effects!
Eh, I think you did Scolipede a little dirty. Not majorly, but a little! Swords Dance Scolipede needs to be on the right team, but if it is, then it can honestly dish out some serious beatings.
In order to make Spidops useful, they'd have to give it something really crazy. It needs, like, at least 100 more base stat points, maybe even 125 or 130. Then it'd also want some sort of secondary typing to help it out on defense. Maybe not steel, that'd be a little too good, but maybe, like, rock? Plenty of spiders use rocks to hide. Then it'd need some kind of great signature move. Maybe to keep with the whole sneaky spy theme, it could be something that deals pretty mediocre damage but sets a trap up on the enemy side. Like, you hit them and suddenly there's a sticky web there. Or maybe just stealth rock if webs would be a little too strong. You think they'd ever do that?
1:58:40 In America, we were subjected to the disgrace that is Saban's Masked Rider. A horrid mix of mostly cringe family sitcoms that aren't funny with a stupid animal companion in Ferbus, and bits and pieces of Kamen Rider Black RX.
Wasnt bug type themed around them leveling up early so you can get your buzzy buzzy jagen pet? Like butterfree and beedrill are weak, but for when you can get them in older games (lvl 10. You can reasonably have one before gym 1 and definitely beetween gym 1 and 2) they are pretty strong. For example Beedrill is pathetic compared to powerhouses but compared to like uh... charmander this pokemon is strong as heck. I guess later they got "lost in the sauce" first by making late-game bugs (Volcarona comes to mind) or just by wrecking the early/late game structure like in scarlet and violet. also perhaps the biggest irony is that arguably best move in the game (u-turn) is bug type. Lol.
There's always been late game bug types. The entire purpose of Scyther and Pinsir in gen 1 are to be late game bug pokemon that can go toe to toe with the big boys.
Weirdest thing for me is masquerain being briefly arguably the best sticky webber in early sv ou and sort of a meta pick alongside things like gholdengo and roaring moon
Leavanny defense squad back again to give my two cents: its actual usability in-game in B&W (can't vouch for B&W2) is dramatically better than you'd expect based on its typing. You're not gonna have a good time trying to use this thing in a solo challenge, but to patch up some offensive coverage niches in a diverse team, it's a solid option and will have plenty of opportunities to shine throughout the game. More than I can say for most 'mons in this archetype. Granted we're talking about a game designed to be beatable by literal 5 year olds, but the idea that Leavanny is so bad that it'll get consistently destroyed even in that context is utterly inconsistent with my experience.
I'll make the feeblest of defenses for Beedrill in gen 1 alone, since poison's weak to bug in that gen only, and gen 1 has tons of poison types. A lot of those are also grass/poison, and it can at least use Swords Dance.
TBh. I kinda wish Vespiqueen got buff into a gimmick so you could use a mono bug type team. Like give her an ability to +1 to all stats for the next Bug-type Pokemon when she exist the fight and teammate in double when they enter the fight. So every single bug type on your team can load up on u-turn to swap in and out for type advantage and resistance.
Spidops is particularly bad because it's in the erratic growth rate, so getting to level 15 to evolve is more difficult than it should be, in addition to continuing to suck after evolution. At least with Nincada you get two cool and at least decent mons by level 20.
You know, they may not be the best, but I've always loved the design of these early bugs. And since pokemon is super easy, even the worst ones are usable. Yes Ledian, even you can technically contribute.
@@ImportedCheesehonestly where It deserves to be. I'm a fan, but I'm realistic too. I hope for a better spider Pokemon soon! I heard there was one in Scarlet! I'm gonna go look! ... Dear God why gamefreak
After using one in gen5 with Signal Beam and 100% accurate Thunder, I'd say they are on the higher end of playthrough playable, especially at 108 speed. It even passes the Gogoat test at 97 Special Attack!
I’m super surprised how low Dustox was rated since it has an early game function - it gets protect so it beats Norman’s Slaking, so it’s not miserable as a Nuzlocke encounter. Pelipper is better and iirc you can get the Protect TM, but if you want to save that for something else it’s a free gym win!
Bossman I need to inform you that Emergency Exit has the hilarious effect of eating switch moves like Volt Switch if it activates- it's a complete momentum reversal that... involves you getting hit for 40-80% on a Stealth Rocks weak Pokémon... but boy do people get mad when you get 'em!
the thing with gen 3 zu is that tiers below are kinda inaccurate because uu banned a lot of pokemon (enough to make its own tier) and a lot of pokemon that arent uu material ended up uu becauses the actual uu pokemon are banned. So if they didnt ban so many uu pokemon dustox probably wouldnt even be Zu and probably be super zu
Honestly in terms of visual design the earlygame bugs are some of the more consistently good Pokémon. There's only a few I'd say are ugly, namely Mothim, Araquanid, and Wormadam. And even in recent generations where the designs have gotten uglier there's still Pokémon like Vikavolt and Lokix who rise to the level of Gen 1-4 visual designs.
There are buffs, and then there is the super steroid Drayano gave Ledian in Renegade Platinum. 110 ATK and Technician or Iron Fist for abilities. (It's still a bug/flying so any physical rock move will obliterate it)
Bug should both be super-effective against and resist Fairy. Insects; like Fire, it destroys forests that faeries call home, it's already super-effective vs Grass, it's a simple logical extension... also finally, my schizo-rant is relevant (early Bugs and Poison go together like PB & J) *why is Poison not super-effective vs Water?* Pollution mainly kills marine-life, what are Water types?
A lot of these bugs just need to have a BST of 450 to at least be usable in a playthrough. Beedrill with 450 BST could have the extra 55 points dumped into attack and speed for a respectable 120 attack and 100 speed since it's a GIANT BEE.
Spidops is probably the most apparent case of this. A fully evolved mon locked to 404 bst in gen 9 is just tragic. Like at least spread the power creep evenly
@TheWrathAbove I agree. At the very least, GF should've just given the same amount of BST points that Lokix has, which is 450, towards Spidops, who's BST of 404 even for an early Evo is kinda depressing 😢. Hopefully there's a romhack out there that gives a buff to Spidops...
@@TheWrathAbove I kind of disagree, but I do get where you're coming from. Honestly, I hope GF comes back to Spidops in future generations and give it a massive stat buff, like what they did to Masquerain in Gen 7, who got +20 to its special attack and speed stats. Though even with that being said, I don't actually really mind if Spidops were to get a new evo in future gens, but I wonder what secondary typing would they give it, for a hypothetical 3rd evo, I wonder....🤔
Maybe you could count paras as early game but like Do I need to hear about how bad paras is in gen 1 or all games. We heard the big grass during this anyway. Spore is good… if you survive to hit…

I’m going to wait for my brother to get home to watch this, but I’ll comment for the algorithm. Thanks cheese!
Gotta be one of your best intros yet man.
Im doing my part!

In all fairness to Arran, being the worst Jagen isn't exactly a dishonor.
He's still mandatory to not immediately die in FE12.
He also does pretty well considering he's taking Toxic damage and shouldn't be fighting at all
I have tried to make Beedrill useful for years to no avail. Great vid Cheese!
1:10:14 if it makes you feel any better I never got a torch, book, or single piece of pyromancer outfit in over 300 wt kills :(
I guess the idea that fairies would be easily caught in spider webs is my own hallucination.
those greenscreen bugs are diabolical. They did more damage to me than any of the pokemon in this video have ever done
4:22 what do you have against Vanillite?
If powder was a more exsessble move it would be great
Powder Ferrothorn
@SkillHunterThousandManPlan or powder Forretress
Love the content Cheese! What was the song used when Gate Gaurdian appeared for Shedinja? That bit was hilarious
Should be this song from Final Fantasy 14

Cheese! It’s been a few months since I’ve been able to catch a stream but I hope you have a great new year. Thanks for all the laughs-The Philly Arab
The entire purpose of Scyther and Pinsir in gen 1 are to be late game bug pokemon that can go toe to toe with the big boys.
i'd say stealth rock is better but u turn is a close 2nd
@emperortoho ye thats another good contender. Depends on gen i guess. In newer especially stealth rock gets big nerf due to boots existing.
This guy is insanely creative and funny. The Bide Administration? How did you even come up with that
Weirdest thing for me is masquerain being briefly arguably the best sticky webber in early sv ou and sort of a meta pick alongside things like gholdengo and roaring moon

They can't ban me because I never applied!
Why no Wild Speed for Ribombee? Now it is sad because all its bug friends did get one high stat call 😢
@@acdcljb not enough gold in the U Turn Alola coffers
What's your most favorite/hated type?
An Bug/Dark Ariados would be insane.
Where would you stick Joltik/Galvantula had it been earlier on?
@@VCV95 uh probably bottom of good infestment?
@@ImportedCheesehonestly where It deserves to be. I'm a fan, but I'm realistic too. I hope for a better spider Pokemon soon! I heard there was one in Scarlet! I'm gonna go look!

Surprised he didn't mention the bizarre thing of Beedrill learning Outrage in Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee.
I like bugs and your humor, cheese!
Ok but have you considered that a level 5 metapod can solo the Lets Go Pikachu elite 4 because of how broken Candy is? Therefore Metapod S++ tier.
Something about the flies crawling around on screen around 9:00 is so unsettling
Kricketot and Krickitune have such good designs and I’ve tried making them usable but it’s always such a struggle. It’s such a shame
Kricketot is cute, but Kricketune kinda creeps me out
Isn’t Heracross an early bug? You can get him before the second gym leader iirc.
yeah, and what about BUG PLATE MYSTERY GIFT ARCEUS?!
My favorite ledian buff idea is to give it zero to hero, but not like give it its own hero form
It just becomes hero form palafin
I agree that would make it stronger, yes
omg ive been waiting for this premium 🤩
Gyarados is the real best early game bug LMAO you can Gyarados at lvl 20... Ariados for lvl 22
the thing with gen 3 zu is that tiers below are kinda inaccurate because uu banned a lot of pokemon (enough to make its own tier) and a lot of pokemon that arent uu material ended up uu becauses the actual uu pokemon are banned.
So if they didnt ban so many uu pokemon dustox probably wouldnt even be Zu and probably be super zu
We need tier lists for the remaining Mid to Late game Bugs.
The Grubby jumpscare got me good

Plankton: CORRECT!
You forgot all of the early game bugs in Scarlett and Violet; there's plenty of them. In fact, I think that's the game with the most bugs...
Damn both nincada AND masquerain got hit by the bug flying evo.
And we still haven't gotten a good bug/ground type to this day.
Unrelated; do you happen to play competitive pokemon anymore, like Showdown or something? I recall that you said you used to be quite good at it.
The only reason to want to use Wormadam is for the training trial in Legends Arceus.
A shame that hidden abilities don’t actually exist in the single-player campaigns, for all intents and purposes
I hate hidden abilities, just make them available normally
There are buffs, and then there is the super steroid Drayano gave Ledian in Renegade Platinum. 110 ATK and Technician or Iron Fist for abilities. (It's still a bug/flying so any physical rock move will obliterate it)
Your computer already had trouble with the graphics, and now it’s full of bugs? You got a new Nintendo PC in Unova, right?
Heading to the local PC DEPOT soon
At 1:54:06 I can’t believe Cheese didn’t say “resistance is futile”.
Edit: never mind.
Maybe I'M the psychic type!!
when I found out cutiefly’s stats in my US play through, I felt violated. creepy ass eyes too
Bug should both be super-effective against and resist Fairy. Insects; like Fire, it destroys forests that faeries call home, it's already super-effective vs Grass, it's a simple logical extension... also finally, my schizo-rant is relevant (early Bugs and Poison go together like PB & J) *why is Poison not super-effective vs Water?* Pollution mainly kills marine-life, what are Water types?
larvesta is kind of an early bug in the fact that you get it at level one and its completely worthless for the entire game
The gap between the two gen 9 bugs is so wide
@@shovanrahman1111 Spidops does give big second stage vibes, very similarly to, like, Scorvillian, so I'm more hoping they eventually get another evo.
1:33:40 Erm akshually Grubin is a BASIC pokemon, not a stage 1, as a PTCG fan you should already know this
@@JFarenci the TCG is WRONG, just like the BRITISH floor naming conventions
Maybe you could count paras as early game but like Do I need to hear about how bad paras is in gen 1 or all games. We heard the big grass during this anyway.
Spore is good… if you survive to hit…
A second rock slide has hit bug/flying meta
