  • LA66 FFG - £100 fine and 3 penalty points accepted (update from police on 29/4/19)
    KP12 DXE, Met response recieved 11/02/19:
    "With regards to KP12DXE (966-1218-19) the case has been marked up for no further action as the close pass was deemed not a close pass/poor manoeuvre."
    Which contradicts highway code rule 163.
    The driver complains about me being in the middle of the road with a 20mph speed limit (1, I think it is actually 30mph, 2, he seems to think the 20mph limit is a target...) whilst not getting the irony of sitting stationery in traffic and complaining to me...

    Drives through a zebra crossing while people are trying to cross just to get to the back of the queue a bit quicker.

    "You give cyclists a bad name" - says the person who just bombed through a zebra crossing with people overtaking, because she was overtaking a cyclist on the zig-zags! Glad the police followed through!

      I'm just wondering if this driver has seen this clip.

    It's utterly amazing how many distracted or moronic drivers won't stop for pedestrian crossings.
    I walk my kids to school most days and have to cross a main road on a Zebra crossing with white zig zags, belisha beacons etc.
    It's utterly astounding how many people just blast on through when you are stood there waiting, or if they do stop suddenly because they notice you at the very last moment, they get extremely defensive when you give them a stare or sarcastic hand clap. All the warning signs are there, they just choose to ignore them.

    I know that videos don't give the real experience of the lighting and colours of the real world, but it seems to me that darkly clothed people against a dark background were a large part of the problem. Sure, it was a pedestrian crossing, and she should have slowed and looked for pedestrians, but if she was just by default relying on peripheral vision, and the people blended into the background, they would have been easy to miss. Even more so if she only 'saw' them in the blind spot of the one eye that could register them the angle of view only allowed monocular vision from her right eye.
    Pedestrians need to be always aware that they might not be seen, particulalry if they are wearing dark against a dark background.

      A bicycle is about a man wide, total weight is rider+30 pounds, slower speed, better view of the surroundings, quite nimble. The consequences of a crash with a bike vs. a car are hardly comparable.

    • @simonharris4873
      @simonharris4873 День тому

      @DanDanDoe I'll remember that the next time my 2yo gets knocked over by a bike riding on the footpath, or failing to stop at pedestrian crossing. Maybe you should just follow the road rule like everyone else.

    • @DanDanDoe
      @DanDanDoe День тому

      @@simonharris4873 I do agree bicycles should follow rules, as it keeps traffic predictable and thus safe. But you can’t tell me a car not giving way and a bicycle not giving way are the same thing. It’ll be much easier for a cyclist to spot a two year old and swerve around them than it is for a car, and if there is a collision your kid is better off getting hit by a bicycle than a car.
      Let’s take the Netherlands, where cyclists own the road and there’s a lot of them who do stupid stuff. 51% of pedestrian injuries are because of cars, 42% are one-sided accidents (e.g. tripping). That leaves 7% for all other vehicles, including lorries, busses and bicycles. That’s why I don’t treat bicycles and cars as equals when it comes to neglecting road laws. A cyclist running a red light mainly endangers themselves, and might hurt pedestrians or other cyclists. A driver running a red light is deadly unless they’re driving very slow. A distracted cyclist will get themselves killed. A distracted driver will get others killed.
