Great video. I drove a Porsche 911 for over 20 years and have often thought about getting myself another, more modern Porsche. In the end, I always hesitated and kept my 911. But after driving the 718 boastster, I am absolutely thrilled with this car. Not least this video has given me the rash to get me a 718 S. I've had the car for four weeks now and I'm just driving this car. Absolutely breathtaking driving performance ...
@@RogerBaileyOnCars In fact, it is so. The introductory words of the video ( If your able to buy Porsche’s latest 2 seat roadster, the Boxster 718, then you really have to do it.) finally convinced me to buy this vehicle. Thanks for that and greetings to GB from Bavaria, Germany
Weird feeling finding a video on the very car I've just bought and hope to pick up before the end of the week from Porsche Chester! I hope you were gentle with it! Thanks for the review.
wow - well done! a fabulous great looking car ! i was very kind to it, its immaculate, I'm intending ordering one in September based on my time with this one .
If there’s a car that offers a more enjoyable driving experience I’m unaware. After 5 months with my GTS I’m completely pleased with my purchase. People downplay the sound for a few reasons: it’s a bit subtle and different, and it’s the only talking point against the vehicle. After the first half day of driving the 718 the engine note is appreciated rather than questioned. I have owned Boxsters for twenty years and for me there is no going back. I wonder if my next one will be EV?
Own a 2015 cayman and been driving since new. Had a chance to drive its new replacement at silverstone. I was asked what I thought after. My answer was easy, I’ll be keeping my car thanks. Sometimes things just get changed when there is no need. A Porsche tech’ said hang in there your 6 cylinder will be the one people will always want.
I guess at the time the Porsche tech didn’t know a 4.0 - 6 is now available in the 718. Also, Porsche did have a need to change things for a good reason. They had to start complying that stricter emission regulations. Ergo, the turbo 4.
Having owned, and therefore heard, the 981 with PSE - faster or not - I have to vote 6-banger all the way. Boxsters/Caymans of the 981/987 generation would yield a huge savings and provide similar driving experience with the sense of sound notching a perfect 10/10.
You liked it then 😜 Drive one on track and on the road at Silverstone last year and loved it. You need to try the TT RS if you haven't already before you summarise the best car in class...it's epic 😎
TTRS is much cheaper than a Boxster. Don’t forget that Porsche cars don’t come with options, and the minimum options on a Boxster are the same price as those the top end 911’s. Even with a horrible 4 cylinder flat 4 engine, this Boxster 718 is faster than an Aston Martin DBS and Audi R8 v10 around Nurburgring circuit. After all, it’s a Porsche. A mid engine track monster.
Hi, just wanted to say that the exhaust on the 718 Cayman doesn’t sound like that if you either have the sports exhaust system or press the ‘sport’ button on the standard system. People still turn and look at mine all the time and say how good it sounds, just in sport mode with the standard exhaust and sport tailpipes.
My neightbourg have this car in blue metal. He drive her only the week-ends. It's a very very beautiful car. I love this blue one !!! this clear blue is wonderful.
The 981 and 718 are identical internally (albeit raised vents) and externally (albeit front/rear revised for the worse). So it is the engine that is the difference between the the two cars, and that makes the 718 such a disappointment and the 981 so fantastic. Anyone considering purchasing a Boxster or Cayman must test these cars back to back, otherwise you will make a terrible mistake. The electrifying 981 has instant throttle response, due to it having the very last naturally aspirated 3.4 litre Boxster/Cayman under it's skin and was undoubtably the very best Boxster/Cayman ever made. It revs to nearly 8,000 revs and screams like a race car. We will never see it's like again, thanks to EU emissions laws.
Power increase is very good, but sound of the exhaust needs to be improved to give it the emotional enjoyment. I am waiting for the next version hopefully this will be improved.
Hi Roger I was looking at U.S.A sales of boxsters and the 986 was hands down the best seller..Sadly better boxsters got a bigger price and the newest one with a four pot engine is more than a corvette with a eight cylinder. Hard for new one to complete...But I will never sell my 2009 s
I would love to learn about any high mileage 718 engines people might have. My speculation is that they won't have the longevity of the naturally aspirated 6.
Tom Ingrassia Images the 718 has a mechanical rear differential lock, and optional torque vectoring kit, I’m not an expert but I could sense something clever at work during my time with this car
I realize this vid was produced 4 years ago, prior to the release of the improved S model. However, I would steer clear of a 2.0 L turbo for two main reasons. Acceleration lag on initial start would be so annoying as I am a Tesla EV owner and used to instant gratification. Secondly, If you are buying a Porsche, it should sound like a proper Porsche. This car does sound like a Subaru which is very disappointing. Roger the 4.0 L six cyl. Naturally aspirated Boxer engine is the minimal displacement if one wants a classic well engineered Porsche machine.
I own a 2018 2.0L boxster and it is terrific. If I wanted EV acceleration I'd have a Taycan. I am satisfied with a 6 speed manual and the best handling anywhere. Sound? Okay not a 6 but it still is fine and you get great performance. The turbo reaches down low and lag is nearly non-existent. Plus the turbo carries all the way to the top with little effort. Exceptional engineering. I drive for the pleasure of the experience and the 718 delivers.
WOW!!! You have A LOT of AWESOME car videos. Being a girl, I click on the prettiest car I see, LOL. One day I would like to own a Barbie pink car. That would give people something to talk about. :-) Thank you for your support!
Remind me not to hire you, as I could not afford your services probably !! LOL. I am across the pond in Ireland anyways, and am the owner of a 2006 Cayman S which I love. Terrific vids Roger, really exceptional I have to say, and am very glad I stumbled upon them. Cheers and save driving.
Thank you! It's still less than I thought. On specs, it says the combined consumption is around 9 liters per 100km. 64 liters tank / 9 = 7.11 This means at least 711km. Somehow I find that not very likely even though you drive on Normal.
Think new supra and c8 mid engine will really hurt Porsche sales...Sadly at local Porsche dealer they didn't have a boxster under 88k dollars...Sadly Porsche prices are so high... Probably never sell my 2009s
We have the previous one and recently drove this one, thought we’d not be impressed but we were blown away by it, it’s fabulous.

718 is a stunner, sometimes mistakenly underrated

@Bruce Finn Definitely, I have been using Flixzone} for years myself :)
loving that miami blue its getting appreciated more these days
Yes you are right
You deserve more subs. Brilliant car review.
TheBlackBaron thanks !
criminally under rated car just because people dont like the engine noise
agree
Dream car for me this, love that maimi blue
Pedro 12345 We weren’t keen on the colour at first but love it now

Michael Pullen I tend to agree
Michael Pullen yes agreed and the same will be said regarding seven eighteens

I would have been happy with a 3.0 low boost turbo engine, at least then the flat-6 sound would still be lurking behind the turbos.
Love to see your videos man. Keep on doing this good work

D Wray's Garage great point thanks
D Wray's Garage don’t forget the ghetto 986 for us broke people
Gorgeous car! Love the color. Very nice video. Can't wait to check out more😎

good point, I must try & get a go in the TT RS
TT RS is crap compared to this imo

who'd have a TT when you get a Porsche for not much more money

Miami Blue, I love it, I just bought another car in this color, I'll post a video in a few weeks - thank you for your support
That is a Gorgeous looking car!
570 DRONE glad you like ;)
The tinted tailights look great
yes, not standard of course, they are on the options list
Very good review !!! Speaking to the point of every spec of the car, something i miss lately in car reviews... Nice channel also !!!
Chris Paras thanks for taking time to comment !
good review, the boxster and the cayman beat the 911 these days
i would tend to agree
si tipo I agree, we can’t justify the twice the price for the 911 over the fabulous Boxster
Very nicely produced video. Would love to see a side-by-side comparison with your 981, which seems to be a similar spec to mine.
You do amazing car reviews! keep it up!
thanks Joel, really appreciated

Sounds like an awesome Scouser accent ..even better to watch the Porsche video.

Brilliant video, brilliant car!
Boothy On Cars thanks, I'll be watching your channel too !
Will keep my 981 thank you.
Good review but I really find the music jarring. I am leaning towards buying a GTS 981.
highgate14 981 GTS would be amazing if you can find one, sorry about the music,
brilliant video
thank you

So jealous,,and love your videos
thanks eddie !
Roger, I dont think it has a limited slip differential. Are you sure that it does?
Tom Ingrassia Images the 718 has a mechanical rear differential lock, and optional torque vectoring kit, I’m not an expert but I could sense something clever at work during my time with this car
Hi, I have a question! Does the 718 with 300hp ( not the s) makes povs when you downshift? I have one I and really don't hear them!
I don't know sorry I didn't get to drive the non S, a dealer should be able to tell you of course
Should come through on sport mode buddy, my Cayman the same, nothing on over run until you press the button 👍
Enjoyed the review thanks, but find the music overlay is a bit loud
thanks for the feedback Jason, the music in my later vids is a bit better controlled, I hope !

absolutely beautiful car..would you mind telling me what you do for a living?:)
not at all - I'm an electrician

Good job, I enjoyed you vid. Good luck.
My Garage Tv thanks ! I checked your channel which is excellent, I've subscribed & will look out for your content
YAY I'm your 718th subscriber just after watching the Porsche 718 Boxster S
Thanks 718 - appreciated !
The tank holds 64 liters. How long can you drive with one full tank on a normal usage?
I would expect about 300 miles or 480 kilometers, although it depends on how you drive of course.
Thank you! It's still less than I thought. On specs, it says the combined consumption is around 9 liters per 100km. 64 liters tank / 9 = 7.11 This means at least 711km. Somehow I find that not very likely even though you drive on Normal.

My 2009 is in my garage..
@@elenarobert do you know 2009 is a rare year I heard only 850 sold in usa
My new batmobile 🖤
Nice video. Subbed, but maybe you should reconsider your choice for background music. Or, maybe no music at all?
Steve Nagy thanks for comment & feedback, your point is noted ;)
Where is S on the back of car ?
Love all the 718 haters basing their opinions on the motoring press, just get in one, you’ll love it, trust me
sick
Good review of the phenomenal Boxter... but please CHANGE THAT MUSIC!
RockbertoRocks that music 😱 I’ve toned it down since this vid 👍
What is the other red car in the background ?
Hi eddie, its a Toyota MR2 mk 3 which I still have.
I would consider a TTRS to the 718 Cayman GTS. Just saying................
💙💙💙💦Love the cars I support your channel #Motivation 😘😁😁you know all the facts about cars
BOSSLADY J hey thanks for taking a look
Did you say Aldi in this video 🤣🤣
1:42minute into this video aldi 😂
see what you mean ! 😂
Good review. Thanks. Horrible music.
Good review, but please turn off the crap baby music
Is this really your kind of music sir ? ...
The 981 is so much better looking and sounding than this awkward looking and pathetic sounding 718.
Very Good Better sounding, definately.
Better looking, nope.
Which one have you got?
Nice video and car but you sound like you are about to make sweet love to the car rather than drive it :-)
Dave Harris ha, not quite
No.
Stop showing this 6 year old car on my opening page get real show a new one or nothing at all
old
I do not like the turbo 4 at all!
Horrible sound.
That car sounds like crap.
God why did you have such awful music accompanying this video?
very annoying music
