Just returned from a 1700 road trip to W/Tx and the bugs were terrible. I remember this video and got after it. Dang!!!! Nasty doesn't begin to describe the mess I found. May have been easier to just buy a new cooler, replace it, take the dirty one to the bench and spend a day comfortably sitting cleaning it. This will become an annual tradition.... Next stop, Ozarks Int'l Raceway end of May.
Great job!! What’s scary is that it sounds like, if you didn’t trouble shoot this yourself, the dealer would have needed multiple attempts to get the issue resolved
AWESOME job, Tim! Will be HUGELY helpful to those experiencing tranny temp issues. I'm going to add this to my list of preventative track maintenance items. Glad to see the front fascia doesn't have to come off, though the underbelly panel is no walk in the park (but doable).
That’s amazing Tim…hopefully They will use your Information in a new TSB…Ford performance should hire you to be the GT500 expert…as always great information and pictures etc🐍🐍🐍🐍🥃
Nice find sir, had you pegged for a serious type A leaving just one bit left proves me wrong. 😇 May not look great, would use anything like a scotch brite pad in front of the cooler. Anything smaller than the passages to prefilter no reason you couldn't do a pretest or if temps go up remove the pre filter you decided on and just inspect after each track day. Down side would be easy access to clean or replace them. Can't think of a better solution.
My pebbles and melted rubber were packed in the openings pretty tightly. I suspect if you blasted it with anything hard enough to dislodge the obstructions, you might damage the cooler itself.
So you didnt cover the biggest design flaw imo. Where are the cats? 2 inches away from the trans on either side. How much heat do you think is generated from the cats at wot from a supercharged 800hp motor. Shield the cats 50% on the trans side. Summit sells a cat heat wrap kit.
I have a bunch of track days including in hot weather and didn’t have heat issues previously. If having the cats next to the trans was a problem, I would have had overheat issues from day one. This is not the case.
@@ShelbyFlyer Yea so what exactly were you getting serviced? Your front air filter? I was unaware that was covered or was there something else that was damage you got taken care of.

I just cleaned my cooler again a couple days ago. Heading to Ozarks this week! 🤟

Thanks Fletch! 🍻
Please keep making these videos!!
Thank you kindly! I have a few like this in the pipeline.

Another excellent, and helpful, video! Many thanks.

Thanks! It has lasted 1.5 years through many many track days before it became a problem. I’ll just drop it down once in awhile and clean it out.
Learning so much, thanks
Very informative as always Tim! What temperatures are considered high? On the trans. And what temperatures are considered high on the diff? If you know
The trans too hot message trips at 260 degrees. Not sure about the diff.
Great video! Not a fan of the trans cooler location
Thanks Cedric! It’s not idea with the horizontal orientation.
Awesome Thanks!
Wow, that’s crazy
What should my transmission cooler temperatures be driving around town? Road coursing and dragracing,?
Short answer is I don’t know. With the digital dash, you will get an alert when an overheat occurs. Until then, you are good to go!
I work with dry ice and have a 2020 gt500, do you think dry ice would be good to clear out the trans cooler?

What do you mean by warranty work? Did you get extended warranty?
These cars have a 5 year power train warranty.

@@w00tec We swapped the 2 tranny filters, but the underlying problem was a plugged cooler.
@@ShelbyFlyer got it thx
Your car has issues because you crashed it!
