Savage, MN Tornado Warning And Approaching Squall Line With Siren Activation 5/11/2022

- On May 11 2022, a large tornadic squall line with embedded QLCS circulations raced northeast across southern and central Minnesota, with numerous tornado warnings issued. Here was my experience of the storm approaching from my home in Savage, Minnesota as a tornado warning was issued. I set off my JDW-105 siren multiple times during the warning as the storm approached. The warning was issued for radar indicated rotation, but a CC drop showed up on radar after a little while in neighboring Carver County indicating a tornado on the ground. Luckily it didn't persist and was brief. By the time the storm got to us, it did not have a tornado on the ground but did have 60-70 MPH winds and small hail.

I had baseball practice that night close to around 7pm we called it off because of lightning then on the way home their were a couple severe thunderstorms warning that were issued and then all of a sudden a tornado warning was issued for southern carver county as I got home and then all of a sudden bam a tornado warning was issued for my part of the county and it was one of the most craziest storms I’ve ever seen in person and I will never forget how crazy it was

I freaked out when we got the warning from the same storm. There was a confirmed tornado in Shakopee, one town away from me. (I live in Prior Lake, MN)
If I had my own siren, it would be a Thunderbolt 1000T.
If I lived there, when I heard the siren sound, I would panic!
I wonder what does the neighbors and city of Savage think of your private Siren going off along with their Sirens
Its the city who sets them off lol. National weather service is in charge of them. So I don’t think the neighbors or city care. Please do your research before you comment stupid stuff. Sirens are there to warn people of a tornado. Its meant to save lives. If you can’t hear others its good to have more
My neighbors like my siren. Last September we had a very bad storm and EF0 tornado come through at 3 AM (storm was not tornado warned) and I set off my siren and all my neighbors heard it and went to the basement. The next day they thanked me.
@@shadowsky793 No no he's correct, my own JDW-105 siren can be heard in the video along with the city sirens. I set mine off with the city's sirens. Mine is the high pitched siren.

I think what you are doing is a very good idea! It's better to be safe than oops so sorry kind of thing! So I like your idea! In Vancouver BC Canada we had a EF0 Tornado that started at our Airport area at the Frazer River area and it was a small water spout then it quickly went from the Airport into the UBC (UNIVERSITY OF BRITISH COLUMBIA) area and luckily it was a small one but it did do some minor damage to two cars that were parked side by side and some tree limbs and small trees were torn etc...so I totally do think that it's better to have a Tornado siren!! 🙂🙂👍👍
Yes and the sirens are cool too jsut expensive to maintain and they need good spots for them

I thought I had it bad. My office is a block away from a siren, and my home is two blocks away from one. That sound is creeeepy. Perhaps it should be. But damn, your home is sandwiched between two close sirens.
I remember there being a tornado warning in eden prairie and there was a report of a tornado a few miles away from where the bowling alley I was at and I remember being stuck in a small bathroom with like 25 other people😂
I hear Federal Signal 2001-SRNB tornado sirens on full alert. I also think an HOR Tritone Super Sirex would sound awesome.

When it kicked the breaker it could be that the motor got too hot and drew too much current. Especially with the pitch drop

Was this a tornado on the ground, or a radar indicated tornado?
Radar indicated rotation with high risk of producing a tornado. A tornado actually touched down just West of Savage from what I remember hearing on the news. I live in the same city as these guys.
Initially rotation, but there was a CC drop in neighboring Carver county at one point meaning tornado on the ground. Though it was brief. By the time the storm was at us there was no tornado on the ground.
I'm so glad Ontario Canada doesn't have Sirens for our tornadoes, we just go indoors when we see and or get a warning on our cell phones when bad weather approaches.
Sirens are very important some people maybe too poor to own a cell phone or tv...And if people are working a lot of the time it's against the rules to use cell phones and then you have children who maybe home alone that needs them

in the last few years now I've been seeing more tornadonic activedy in Barron county Wisconsin it's weird cause that's never happened as much as it has of recently before and scary to cause it's literally the county over to the west of the one i live in

Not at all, my neighbors like and appreciate my siren. I don't need permission to do a good deed and warn my neighborhood as long as I only do it when necessary.
I try to go easy with it a kid who's New to the neighborhood hated it so if he's outside and I have started doing the test inside.

Radar scope is the best, I can tell if a tornado on radar, look for bright colors, in the red and green mixing, red mean coming, green means moving away, velocity radar.

Rather hear the siren first before the storm. Some storms sound bad but not all storms are bad. The siren means it's probably likely bad. That's a f everything and hit the deck. They don't always mean bad storm.. I do know some states have them go off the first of every month like Mississippi
@@PheobeThekitty yessir in our state the first Thursday of every month. Sometimes they line up with storms tho and we get a flash warning not thinking about the day 🤣

At least you know they work but sucks if a storm went through on a first Thurs and it was really bad but you know man kind cannot beat nature if will always beat us.

Yes, around 110-130 Db, loud enough to need ear plugs at close distance but then hearing one makes you wonder how it carries so far

Given that the neighbors are okay with it I don't see anything wrong with it. Might not set it for quite as long, for the good of the siren (mine got very hot from 3 minutes) but you do you, I have no rights telling you what to do

No, they don’t care because I only set it off for tornado warnings and on test days. Basically only set it off when the city’s are going off. In fact some of them appreciate me setting it off during a tornado warning to warn them.
The only thing I disliked is your siren. I wanted to hear the storm.
