Physical preserves value and something to pass down to family generationally. Digital will always be at the publishers discretion if you keep it or not, you don't actually own the game. Physical all the way, even if its more costly and takes more space. its just more aesthetically pleasing to look at too.
Depends on the game and the publisher, if you bought Halo Infinite or a recent Call of Duty or Assassins Creed etc you’re not getting the full game on the disk so you have the same issue with the physical and digital versions
Many games today sell the physical copy with only part of the game, or maybe just an executable file, and so still require a digital download of the rest of the game to play it. This would mean that to pass down many games forever, then you would need to keep it installed on the console that runs it in case the game loses support.
@@PhysioMage it's less than a percentage of games that do that. The mass majority of physical games come with a complete playable build of the base game on the disc. I'll put this into perspective. I got my PS5 in January of this year (2024), which was a late Christmas gift from my wife, and I currently own 11 games for it. The only digital game I own for it is Spider-Man 2 because my wife got me the PS5 Spider-Man 2 bundle (it's the original PS5 model, not the slim). I set up the Wi-Fi features and downloaded Spider-Man 2, but disconnected my PS5 from the Internet shortly after. All 10 physical games I own have been played from the disc without a Wi-Fi connection or updates. And while you may be thinking that's only 10 games, all but one of my 78 physical PS4 games have been played offline without updates, with the only exception being Cyberpunk 2077. And all 101 physical PS3 games I own are also playable offline. The disc drive on the PS5 only makes a noise while it spins to verify the disc, it lasts about 10 seconds(Unless you're installing). The game is installed just like a digital game so after that your PS5 should be silent. Maybe your disc drive is faulty
Yeah I should have clarified in the video. it's only loud if I'm installing or while it ramps up but it still provokes an angry reaction from my wife haha
I have 51 digital games on my xbox but channels like your inspired me to get collecting again, in one month i now have 50 physical copies for my xbox there is a nice feeling about physically holding the case. Cex has been a godsend for it
@@christopherkraufeldt7369 I do buy digital too, just some games are much cheaper to just buy physically, When I only had my series X most my games were digital as I work from home and have my son too so I didn't get the chance to go out and buy games.
With the PS5 I've been all digital until I recently bought a Switch and several physical games for it like BOTW and Mario Kart 8. That made me nostalgic and inspired me to double dip and get physical copies of my favorite games from the PS4/PS5 generation. Games like Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Disco Elysium, Elden Ring, GTA V, NFS Hot Pursuit, and Mass Effect Legendary Edition just to name a few. I even bought the $100 physical edition of Baldur's Gate 3. My wallet is hating me but it's comforting to know that I have physical versions of my favorite games to fall back on just in case. This all digital future where we're all paying for licenses and don't really own anything is kind of terrifying to think about.
Even if it isn't part of the collection series, you need to get yourself a Steam Deck. Access to your Steam library, PS Plus, Game Pass, Epic games and all on the go. Best device I've ever purchased.
Ah yes a digital console on a series about collecting games. Great console but if you have a sizeable amount of hardware and consoles(which he does), why would he need another device?
One thing to know is digital stay the same price unless some kind of specail discount is there but for physical it usually goes down for price and buying pre owned lowers that price as well
I prefer digital but I am buying more physical games mainly due to vinted being so much cheaper. I tend to buy half physical half digital. This week I grabbed Gotham knights for £11 from vinted and Stray Blade for £23 digit from psn as it has a small release week discount (always nice).
My physical games are on a different floor in my house than my big 4k TV, so definitely feel your pain with having to go get the discs. But I do love my wall full of games!
I used to prefer physical until the point where consoles made you install games. After that and gamesharing on Xbox, using VPN's and websites like cdkeys and Gamivo etc it became the silly option to go physical
You own the physical copy for life. The digital copy is just a licence to play the game and it could be removed from the library at any point without warning. Games I purchased in the past have vanished from the Sony store.
of course prefer the convenience, but that's all it can give! It would be perfect if there was a system letting us play our physical games without a disc (maybe like insert the disc every 48 hours or so to verify ownership). but yea, never gonna happen, as long as we have reasons to double-dip, publishers are happy.
Honestly, digital and physical has it's place. I do like the convenience of digital sometimes BUT I have had my account with all my digital games hijacked in the past, losing access to a few hundred digital games. I got it back within 24 hours but who ever did it marked their own playstation as the main system so it locked up certian aspects of the account for 6 months. Now I personally collect more physical games, I haven't got as many as i'd like but it's still nice to have the option. on that, I can understand not wanting to grab a disk, but it depends where you store them and your own set up, Personally i have the game disks in a binder next to my ps4 and the cases stored elsewhere, if i had space though i'd display them
I built a gaming computer so everything I have on it is digital and I find many bargains on CD Keys. With my retro games it's nostalgia and the box, cartridges, discs etc take me back. With new gen consoles I still get physical copies, I prefer to see my collection on display opposed to digital. Plus there's re sale value should you want or need to sell them. With my Switch I have both but the only digital I buy aren't available as physical or they're so cheap in comparison. As much as I like Netflix it will never compare to walking in a video shop and picking a film. Convenience at the cost of losing out on an experience and the social interaction.
I still buy PS4 games physically, but my favourite is the Xbox 360 right now because you could still put in the disc and *play* for the most part, without an install or large patch :p (I think Red Dead Redemption GotY recently had a 5mb update which you'd barely notice) Then again you'd have to wait for a download anyway, haha.
Physical all the way for me. I’ve bought a few digital games which I’ve actually forgotten I’ve bought. Once they’re uninstalled, you forget you own them. Another point is that in 10-15 years time, I doubt you’ll be able to play digital games which have been purchased. On the other hand, current and last gen physical games may not even work due to the fact half the game is downloaded or major patches are released on release day or at a later date. Switch games other other hand, I’m pretty sure those cartridges will install and work without issues in the future.
Physical every time for as am a full collector and soon as they stop making discs and collectoring stops and then shops start to shut down and the hobby starts to end
The ease of convenience when playing yes. But with physical you own it properly. You can not only enjoy seeing it physically in your collection, but you also have the ability to sell it to someone else.... Digital games puts the power firmly in the hand of the distributors, which I don't like.
If a digital game is on sale for a good deal I will snap it up if it's something I really want to play. I do still prefer owning physical games as I feel like I really own it then and like to see it there on the shelf. It can be easy to forget about a game I own digitally. It might partly be because I am of an age where physical games was the only option when I got into gaming and that's just what I am used to. I do think digital games is a good thing though as sometimes it allows you to play games that are too expensive or impossible to find physically.
Digital for me ONLY if physical isn't an option. I weirdly put more value in the physical version that I am more likely to play it when compared with a digital copy that can be forgotten about. I have the latest Guilty Gear that was released on PS5 but don't play it as much as I know I would if I had a disc copy. I also own Witcher 3 on PS4 which is a free upgrade for the new PS5 version. But I still wanted a copy of the game on PS5 Physically. Digital is good for convenience and those games that don't get a cart or disc. It just bothers me with more expensive games because you don't have anything to show for it outside enjoying the game.
Something I didn't mention in the video is that I will put more effort into a game that I won physically. if I'm not enjoying it, I'll keep playing it in hopes that I start liking it. Far too easy to close the game and forget when it's digital
I couldn’t agree with you more! I recently sold my ps5 digital and brought a disc version. I got in this bad habit of downloading to many games from ps extra and playing like an hour or so of each one, just because I could. I’ve now cancelled my subscription and told myself to enjoy one game at a time. Starting with Hogwarts legacy, which I have to say is incredible!!! It’s not like I built up a big digital library anyway , plus can watch my 4K and blu-way dvds now. 😊.

Emulation + Steam = Gaming Bliss. I really don't need physical. I get a good enough "display" of my digital library. And no need for 1000s of games I'll never play. Especially curated list of around 200 titles. About 5TB of hard drive space. So all games there, instantly available. Everything important (to me) from Pong to Hogwarts Legacy. No getting off the couch. No disc swapping. Everything in one place, on one machine.
I’m 100% digital and have been since last generation except for the Switch, partly because I like the convenience and partly because I don’t have the space to have a big physical collection. If I had the space for a physical collection it’d be nice but I don’t feel like I’m missing out because my games are all displayed on my console instead of a shelf
I don't understand digital games on PS, like if I switch PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 can I still re- download the games that I bought digitally. And the progress will be saved, also If I download a game in an account can the other profiles on the same console play it. Please answer

I've on most occasions bought the digitial copy because I've been too lazy to get the disc from my games room, I keep the physical because as you've said it looks good on the shelf but it is more convenient digitally, recent one to memory is that I wanted to play MW2 2022 on my xbox in the bedroom (I have a series X in the living room and series s in the bedroom) I was too lazy to go to the living room so I bought it on the xbox store digitally but now that's how I play on my X now
@Tay12345 I sometimes buy the physical game first then get lazy haha and also I buy on each console to see which one performs better but then keep them on the shelf for the collection
Being a PC gamer I'm forced to be digital but I'm cool with that, games are generally cheap enough and you do also get a lot for free. Plus the wife would probably kick me out for having a game collection the size of our local cex in the bedroom, so win win.
1 major caveat to digital games is that you DON'T acually own that game, you are paying for the right to play it. Phyisical games however you DO own that game and have the rghts and abilty to sell it on. This is where digital subscriptions are great to a certain extent
If your PS5 is very loud then that sounds more like its placed somewhere that vibrations will make lots of noise. Or, its got little airflow. My PS5 is next to silent on all games.
If it's a game im unsure of, i pick it up in store because it can be traded in, but something like fifa, I'll buy digitally because i know i enjoy playing it and won't trade it in
@@TVMReviews I picked up Grand theft Auto London special edition in a charity shop in brilliant condition just before Christmas on ps1 for £15 and it sold on vinted for £25 not bad pickup there
I understand the getting money back after completing a game of trade value which is great and I have always been a proponent of. Recently I have come around to the idea of actually if I spend money on a game digitally will I get hours of enjoyment from it. E.g. It I rented or bought a film say that is around 2 hours enjoyment for £10 on new releases, if you factor that into a game purchase, if I spend 50-60 quid on a game and get 60 hours of gameplay or enjoyment from it then it was worth the money say more than a film. Just something I'm co.I g around too. I also recently started using game pass which is awesome for someone who wants to play lots of different games but has no where to store them 😂
Problem with digital games is the space 800 and something gb on ps5, I have 8 games on it and it's full! At least xbox series x gives you the option to put in a ssd storage in the back upto 5tb I believe, 1 tb is around 180 quid so the big one must cost around the same as the xbox itself.. Should have made a 2tb option slap on another 150 quid and I'd buy it..
The best way to avoid disc drive noise............... Is don't use discs lol. I swear the designers have in mind that people like white noise.... Because they replaced the jet engine fan of the PS4 and Pro, with this bloody disc drive in the PS5.
try your digital copy when they shutdown the servers and poof goes your money and game, at least with the majority of hardcopy games you had a offline mode, so you where not depending on a internet connection or a server to be able to run the game.
Owning something physical gives you power and liberty , you can trade, sell or borrow ,digital you cannot do any of that . We are moving from an age where we use to own to everything under subscription, is all part of all big tech ,they want us to own nothing and pay for everything
So i have a question. I really wanted madden 25 on digital but they only have the deluxe edition which is 100 bucks. Physical standard edition is only 70 bucks plus tax. Same with ncaa 25. I’ve been to lazy to put my physical games in my ps5 console& want to start buying more digital copies. Just makes it more easier. What should i do? Love the video btw!!
I like the convenience of having digital games but I don't really consider that I own them if that makes sense? I've got god of war downloaded but you won't find it on my game app listed in my 900 game collection 😂 I dont really purchase digital games either, unless they're on offer for a few quid. I mostly play what my nintendo/playstation/xbox subscriptions allow.
1:00 if its an older console that’s discontinued maybe its a good idea to see if you can backup your games with homebrew or something Wii and 3DS can do this well but I’m not sure about others.
Im looking at which ps5 to buy as I've been an xbox user for 10+ years, and i literally can not decide whether to start physically collecting for the ps as well as the xbox. The digital version seems easier for the ps5 just so i dont have to collect physical media but i really dislike buying digital games. 😭
I keep physical only for old games like mega drives, ps1 ect..I want to sell my ps3 and ps4 games because I hate to have too many things!! I honestly don't like to have rooms full of games!! About digital only I don't get why is more expencive than physical
I don't think if anyone has thought of this, but what if the software manufacturers go out of business or if support for the system stops because of age? Surely you will no longer be able to download the game even if purchased which undoubtedly means wasted money. At least with most single player games the programme is on the blueray. The future is bleak for collectors as with media you'll own nothing.
I had a huge physical collection that I recently had to get rid of quickly for a move. It was a stress and a hassle. I bought an xbox at Christmas and love the GamePass. I have bought two games when they were leaving GamePass for a hugely discounted fee. The fact that I have a living room, a bedroom, and an office Xbox (they think a series S is a desk humidifier for my office, I kid you not) and I can pick up exactly where I left off in DayZ is amazing. I wasn't going to install Prime or Netflix or Arrow Films but I have - having these consoles as my media centre just works perfectly for me. Really thinking about it, I was surprised when I realised how little I went back to old games once I'd moved on, as much love as I had for them. What my friend does is have pictures on his game room wall of the games he's proud of, and until recently had an Xbox and Playstation 'catalogues' on the table of the game box art of his digital games.
@@TVMReviews my PS5 is day one. Since I have had it I keep it horizontal on a Wii Fit Balance board because it doesn't fit into the tv stand. I feel it is ventilated well there and is quiet most of the time.
You're not the only one. I've been talking and debating this for 2 months, the clencher for me is simple, I don't have to take out and swap disks any more. I'm lying comfortably and now I'm bord, press stop, press play and there you go, game starts. It's just to download speed and time that kills me
I hate watching films on disc for that reason. I have to have the TV up loud to cover the disc drive then have to keep altering the volume when there's a quiet part or explosion etc

Especially curated list of around 200 titles. About 5TB of hard drive space. So all games there, instantly available. Everything important (to me) from Pong to Hogwarts Legacy.
No getting off the couch. No disc swapping. Everything in one place, on one machine.
About the factual question, we do not ultimately own digital games. We cannot dispose of it.
@@Unknown.907 yes u can play your digital ps4 games on your ps5 and you can transfer your ps4 saved data to your ps5 sometimes u have to pay 10 dollars to upgrade to ps5 version if u want it but sometimes its free
I've on most occasions bought the digitial copy because I've been too lazy to get the disc from my games room, I keep the physical because as you've said it looks good on the shelf but it is more convenient digitally, recent one to memory is that I wanted to play MW2 2022 on my xbox in the bedroom (I have a series X in the living room and series s in the bedroom) I was too lazy to go to the living room so I bought it on the xbox store digitally but now that's how I play on my X now
If you buy both then keep your physical games sealed
@Tay12345 I sometimes buy the physical game first then get lazy haha and also I buy on each console to see which one performs better but then keep them on the shelf for the collection
Is it true that physical games are cheaper than digital ones?
Being a PC gamer I'm forced to be digital but I'm cool with that, games are generally cheap enough and you do also get a lot for free. Plus the wife would probably kick me out for having a game collection the size of our local cex in the bedroom, so win win.
Only own digitals when they offer early release, even then I probably end up buying it twice later down the line
1 major caveat to digital games is that you DON'T acually own that game, you are paying for the right to play it. Phyisical games however you DO own that game and have the rghts and abilty to sell it on. This is where digital subscriptions are great to a certain extent
Disc snaps or disc drive breaks, still better than digital?
If your PS5 is very loud then that sounds more like its placed somewhere that vibrations will make lots of noise. Or, its got little airflow. My PS5 is next to silent on all games.
10 seconds in and I nearly had a heart attack haha
Shocking revelation
If it's a game im unsure of, i pick it up in store because it can be traded in, but something like fifa, I'll buy digitally because i know i enjoy playing it and won't trade it in
I need FIFA digitally for the amount of times I boot it up and close it 6 minutes later
@@TVMReviews I picked up Grand theft Auto London special edition in a charity shop in brilliant condition just before Christmas on ps1 for £15 and it sold on vinted for £25 not bad pickup there
What about hard drive space? Will it take the same physical and digital?
Why would anyone prefer digital games, apart from space saving.
You'll never be able to buy a digital game for £1 at a boot fair.
Digital but for Steelbook and classic physical you can’t beat a digital library and quick resume on Xbox quick and easy access to a library
Digital games. You own a key but you don't own the game, if for some reason you loose the digital download it's gone. Physical copy is for life.
The games need the system so if u wanna just save games with no console they just don't last forever
I have a physical copy of a game but would prefer it as a download, does that mean I would have to pay again full price for something I already have?
1:00 if its an older console that’s discontinued maybe its a good idea to see if you can backup your games with homebrew or something
Wii and 3DS can do this well but I’m not sure about others.
PSP can do this amazingly
And Original Xbox
if you install the game you wont hear the drive so none issue. this is pure laziness
I buy physical and digital
Have you seen some CEX stores are starting to write on the labels of the retro games have manuals or not
I have over 40 digital games on my Xbox one s
l. Can’t. Be. The. Only. One. Who. Thinks. This
Digital games have no soul.
I only have digital games
Digital will never beat physical games or even books, in my opinion. When you buy a digital game, you don’t own it. Physical games for life.
physical over digital every time for me, I can understand the appeal of digital, but owning that disc or cart is where its at #physicaltilidie
If your ps5 is loud when you have a game in it then they must be something up because mine is dead silent
I've done a bit of research and I find a lot of people complain about the noise. is yours a newer model as mine is a very early one
@@TVMReviews my PS5 is day one. Since I have had it I keep it horizontal on a Wii Fit Balance board because it doesn't fit into the tv stand. I feel it is ventilated well there and is quiet most of the time.
The reason I have a wii over a gamecube is because a gamecube is so fecking loud :)
Can't say I've had one long enough to notice. I'll have to pick one up soon and find out
@@TVMReviews Then again mine was modded :)
I don't want to display them.
You're not the only one. I've been talking and debating this for 2 months, the clencher for me is simple, I don't have to take out and swap disks any more. I'm lying comfortably and now I'm bord, press stop, press play and there you go, game starts. It's just to download speed and time that kills me
Fc 25 I don’t know what do I like when I cop it they send me a download code love it
The disc drive on my series x is silent when playing games, but it does make some annoying noises when playing a 4k blu ray
I hate watching films on disc for that reason. I have to have the TV up loud to cover the disc drive then have to keep altering the volume when there's a quiet part or explosion etc
@@TVMReviews I watch 4k discs on my sony 4k player that's silent.. Tbh I wouldn't watch a 4k disc on a console but that's just me...
hahaha maybe u should get your floorboards changed if you cant get up stairs without making any noise :) hahaha
They're shocking
Physical always....
F digital games all around. Lost especially when buying one set price and that the developer price Save your self the space one the console and head ace
Physical all the way
So you have a games room but don't use it?? You'd rather spend TWICE AS MUCH MONEY on digital games and never be able to trade them in or lend it to a friend?????Or like you just said go into your games room and look at it sat there on a shelf???? And all that because you can't be bothered to get off your sofa??? Come on mate love your channel but that's a poor excuse coming from a collector 🫣
