    Seeing you without your coat feels like seeing you naked.
    But now the question is... What does it feel like seeing you actually naked? Is your skin just a regenerative layer of stylish winter coats?

      Wayne Lim The Prestige is the quintessential Nolan movie. It's by far his best and also very self-reflective on Nolan's part. He sums up all of his movies in it - "You want to be fooled". All of his movies are really in your face, with a heap of "cool" ideas that aren't fully explored or articulated very well and insane visual effects that try to hide it. But the viewers want to think that these movies are more than they are, because they want to be fooled, they want to witness something genius. Many movies could be made more of than they are, if someone put their mind to it. Nolan for some unknown reason gets the benefit of the doubt. "Maybe there's more to this film than i thought"
      Most overrated are Interstellar and Inception. Both films are a huge mess plot-wise. They start from these insanely huge ideas, but in the end turn out to just be family dramas. Nolan is forgiven way more often than he should be for all this mud in his films. He doesn't know himself what he's trying to say in half of his films. He comes up with random ideas and drops them around as quotables, but leaves it up to the viewer to make more of them than they are in his own mind.

    When you were talking movies unfolding and being just as good in subsequent watchings, I immediately thought of The Prestige (and also Inception). And then you mentioned The Prestige. Awesome.

    The Prestige is my all time favourite film. The reveals are perfect because it's not really until you watch it a second time that you realise what was infront of you the whole time.

    That is actually a big problem for me as a viewer. I watched almost every game of league for NA EU and Korea for like 1 1/2 years now and I feel like I can't remember shit about games I watched. At first I thought I'm not watching it from the correct perspective but then I looked at how I view regular sports and there is no difference. Yet I can remember like a rediculous number of NBA, Soccer, Football... whatever.. games. The difference beeing I remember those games because they had a greater context. One example beeing Dirk Nowitzkis playoff-run to winning his first NBA title. There was an ongoing story about the mavericks not beeing able to perform in playoffs dispite Nowitzki hardcarrying the team. Nevertheless in those playoffs he just turned absolutely godlike and his team overcame the problems they had before. And guess what I remember every game, every tale of every game like it was yesterday. That's mostly because there was a storyline leading up to this. A repeating pattern (which was a topic among experts every time the playoffs came up) and this pattern got broken in a way, which makes this very memorable.
    In League I don't feel like there are any ongoing storylines presented, at least not in a meaningful way. I feel like I'm just watching the game, because there is a winner and a loser at the end but it has no real implications, no story, no developments, which is pretty sad, especially when I'm seeing how it's done on a day to day basis in "real" sports.

    • @RyanMontSerrat
      @RyanMontSerrat 9 років тому

      It isn't just the storyline, a number of factors make the mojo of a sport. The format, quality of the teams, personalities, entertainment value, people who cover it, the list goes on. These factors put together can make a huge difference in your perspective and approach of how you watch the games in the big picture, if there are holes in most of them you will start to lose the enthusiam to watch it frequently. I'm thinking ways to expand these thoughts but honestly this isn't the plataform to talk about it :P.

    thorin i heard you read the comments.
    i have one question for you: if the object of making lists is for other people to understand your criteria, why do the lists matter at all?
    if you have the same criteria, and the same weight on every single one, everybody has the same list. shouldn't the debate be more focused on your ideas of "what makes a good team / player", than actually creating lists?
    and if you read this, a thing i never fully worked out is: how would you define support player? i understand the concept, but i have big difficulties designing a definition that would fit every support player in every game.

    In the DotA scene, Hot_Bid comes to mind when I want an article with a rich story line from the scene. His 2 articles that he wrote for TheScore on NA vs. EU was really well written and he set it up in a way that someone like me who skims through news a lot, stops and invest in his stories.
    Here are the articles he wrote:

    www.thescoreesports.com/news/200

  • @TheElectriczil

    This makes me want to write an article on top 10 skilled cs:go players or top 10 cs:go players with the highest skill ceiling because there are a lot of players with insane aim (scream, shroud, forest) that are better aim wise and movement wise than other players but those other players are more successful with more game impact etc and why that is or at least my theory's on each of these. I think it would be interesting. Sorry if this is messy Af I'm really tired right now and writing this out on my phone.
