looking at this, you can see how much better things were made back then. Today you would have to spend a fortune to get a pool like this! I love the artwork on the box, it takes me back to my childhood
I love this playset, I have it with all the original furniture that was made to accompany the set (Patio Table & Chairs, Patio Barbecue, and Patio Recliner & Serving Cart). If you really want to make the Dream Pool look brand new, you should take all of the white plastic pieces and spray paint them with Krylon Fusion or another type of spray paint formulated to bond with plastic. I did that for my set, and it is Sears Wish Book pristine now. I did the same thing with the 1979 Dream House. It really makes a huge difference, all the white plastic pieces invariably fade to various shades of off-white or even yellow or brown over the years.

This is the best barbie pool in my opinion because it has the perfect scale and the only one with a deep pool, plus lots of stuff too, the shower it's amazing! The only thing I'm not crazy about it's this 70's color palette with deep yellow and orange, but it's my personal taste. I prefer much better the colors of other 80's pools like the Tropical Barbie one or the Wet n' Wild too, but none of them has the same structure with such deep pool. Btw when barbies didn't know what pink was. 😚

I had this, as well as the Barbie Dream House of 1978. I loved them so much. We boxed them up years ago and then I passed them on to my daughters.

I love this playset & it was pretty innovative for 1980 too. The attention to detail ie the flowers & of course that cool shower that really works. I hope that I come across this sometime too. The only pool that I have is foldable from a campervan. Thanks for showing this.

my aunt loved barbies in the 70's and I remember finding peices of this pool in the 80s when I was growing up in her old room cool seeing it complete

thanks when I was a kid I saw this in a storage room in the basement of my grandmas house it was my aunt sandys anyway I found a near complete one for five dollars so very happy with it love the colors

Very good review Mr Gray! You covered everything wonderfully! I always adored this pool. Thought it was the best of the best for being realistic of pools of that time and fun for play too. You are very right...she did have great colors before being forced into pink LOL I am glad the newer stuff is getting away from all that eye pinching pink.

Thanks Wendy. 70's and 80's stuff was SO big. I assume everyone back then had giant houses/bedroom to keep all these toys. I just picked up a Dream Cottage too. It was in some local classifies for $40. I cleaned it up last night. Can't wait to photograph it too...

That is a gorgeous doll house!!! I contemplated it many many times in my crafting adventure. Just could not make it fit... same with the A Frame house. Total reminders of my childhood dreams.

For me, the fact that the cottage can be pulled apart and flat packed was big selling point. I'd never seen it before. I've seen the A-Frame house (online only!), but never the cottage. Actually, I didnt know about the A-Frame till a few months ago. haha. The Star Travler and Pool I've been fascinated with since I was a kid as my cousin had them. It's only been these last few months of researching Star Traveler things (So far, I've found 6 different variations/reissued Star Travelers) that I've stumbled onto all these other amazing 70's items. Even the Play Paks are new to me. Haha. I wish EAH had of done some small accessory packs like that.. Oh well.
Ooops, I was wrong on that. Oh wow!!! I cant say I ever seen the cottage in person either. When I was a kid I use to pour over and dream for hours looking at catalogues :) Dog earring pages as if I was ever going to have them then.
The rest other people def had for me to see.... Mom, can that person babysit me??? LOL
EAH started of with a few cool things like the vanity and fainting couch.

Ok i had this one also. So some of those parts are a reminder to me. Because i can only remember the basics of it. But i do remember putting these pieces together.
They made them big in the 80's.

2020 : The whole story starts when I bought the shower part and didn't know what it belonged too. Turned out to be this Dream Pool.
So I went out on a Search & Obtain mission. Afraid that I would only find one in the USA, which means that besides a hefty purchase price I would also have to pay high shipping costs and import duties. Indeed I found a few ones on Ebay, but always expensive and/or incomplete ... Then I found one on a local site in the Netherlands : 50 Euro, complete with box (almost exactly same condition as the one in this video, weird) reasonable shipping costs and no import duties.
The downside : white plastic parts are somewhat yellowed, especially the chair. Production quality is low, not meant to last long. In particular the "clips" upholding the shower curtain are fragile as they are made of bent plastic and after 40 years they just snap into 2 pieces. Lucky I had those from the other shower. I have also seen a few showers with a broken curtain support bar.
Though I still wonder what you would need flippers and goggles for in this oversized bathtub.
