We Bought a Rundown 1960s Campground - and EVERYTHING on it!

- First we fixed up a rundown motel. Next up? A rundown campground! 🏕
When we first saw our future campground, we didn't think much of it. Derelict buildings and RVs in varying stages of decay were scattered throughout the 10 acre property. In fact, it looked more like a shanty town than a campground.
But we bought it anyways...
And after peeling back the first layer, we are realizing that this time we really might have bitten off more than we can chew.
Be sure to watch until the end for more footage of our newly acquired 1960s campground and the first stage of work: demolishing existing structures.

I just wanted to thank you guys so much for showing love to Promised Land! My family had a cabin there for years. Unfortunately, due to lack of interest from the family as the place became so rundown and boring over the years, it was sold. My favorite childhood memories are there and it’s so nice to see new life there! ❤️ I am so excited to stay here…currently planning!

Promised Land played a very important place to my childhood, as my father’s friend had a cabin there and we’d typically spend two weeks each summer just disconnecting from the realities of the everyday and appreciating what was around us. Decades later, I’ve taken yearly trips with my own family, but found much of the area needing some love and tending to (which the whole area is so deserving of). It’s very refreshing to see the two of you doing just that, putting effort into making Promised Land an even more magical place, and not just something I remember fondly through nostalgia-tinted glasses. Cheers!
Wow, such amazing memories and stories you must have. Do you remember the campground from your childhood by chance or what was your favorite place to visit while there?
@@findingpromisedland I remember the campground but, truth be told, we never stayed there, probably because my parents didn’t want to subject neighboring campers to three loud children. We usually stayed at a cabin near Sucker Brook and loved playing in the water there, and we always made it a habit to ride around the lake on our bikes, eat at least one rotisserie chicken from the Lake Store, and “conquer” the Little Falls Trail each year we were there. Thanks again for putting effort into further beautifying the area - and for taking the time to reply!

We love camping in our travel trailer and the dream of owning a campground has been discussed a bunch of times. We LOVE the version of a campground you are building. It looks amazing on paper and I can see a mass appeal for us and others to come stay. The domes are so cool! Joanna you nailed it on the bathrooms. We’ve only been happy in 1 campground we’ve ever stayed at. I guarantee your bathrooms will be the BEST!! Can’t wait to come stay!! 🎉

Ok, I started following you on Instagram when you launched The Rex Hotel but then I started following you guys when you started posting about the campground not realizing you were the same family. This is SO COOL! We just finished remodeling an A frame and to Airbnb decided to sell her and fix up our acreage where we have our barn and cows to do a similar thing where we can also teach and have retreats. Thank you for sharing your journey here, it's very inspiring!

My husband and I went to the same outdoor camp growing up (did not know each other) and when we met I assumed he was a “camper.” Boy was I wrong! My one disappointment in our marriage!! Thirty eight years later, I might just get him to go if I brought him here!!! Both the campground and the motel look magical and we need a little bit of magic!! Lol

From a place that time seemingly forgot to a place that is so timely, well now, that’s just visionary! I hope your passion morphs into the passion of many! I noticed the snowmobile sign any thoughts of adding them for the winter season down the line? There is something to be said for taking a chance❤
Yes, the snowmobiles would be a fun addition and we've certainly thought of adding them! A little complex with liability if we were to rent them...but maybe there is a way to make it work
What a great concept -- we briefly ran a B&B up in that area years ago and I'm in love with that area. You'll do great out there!

“You love a good cement pad”. 😂 That cracked me up. The fireplace where Brian wants to put the playground reminds me of the one we used to have at Arbudor. I can’t wait to see this campground for myself! Thank you for bringing life back to PL!
haha, nothing like a cement pad when most other structures are built on cinder blocks... lol!

FYI.
I hotel has interior corridors.
A motel has doors that open to the outside.
To a older person who remembers all the roadside motels you own a motel not a hotel.
I’m sure the younger generation most likely would not know the difference.
You did a great job renovating your motel.

Make that extra space to make like a pant ball place there for people to see and Thay would what to come or u could do something cheaper.
