Met Stevie personally 3 times, all in DFW, once backstage at Will Rogers Auditorium, then at a record company party for the "Live Alive" release and then him and Lenny at a personal residence, each time he was more graceful, humble and polite than the first. Other so called guitar gods take notes please. R.I.P SRV

@Glasmania I have a friend who's a really good guitarist, and he said pretty much the same thing. I asked him to watch this, since I was amazed how they could all just be chilling, yawning, having their morning coffee, and then SRV goes off like a rocket and the band comes in as if it's nothing. My friend worships SRV, but he said that this isn't really surprising... they're all pros, and they've done this hundreds of times together, so it really is no big deal for them.
@Brass neck Yeah, and the lick already WAS the signal, and if you're a competent player and practiced together with them for long enough, that should lock you together with the band. Also, I doubt that the band didn't know which song they're going to start with lol.
My dad saw Stevie in Manchester, UK in 88. He told me that at about two songs into the gig there was a power cut that lasted for a good few hours. When power eventually came back on Stevie came on stage and said “We came to play for you and we’re not leaving until we’re finished”. They finished the set and it went on until about 2am. He was one of the good guys. RIP
This Is A GREAT Story! Sounds Just Like Stevie - Great Work Ethic - Huge Heart - Cared Deeply About What He Gave To Other People!! To Say He Is Missed Is Like Saying Having Oxygen To Breathe Is "Handy"....
Saw SRV at Pine Knob in Michigan in 1987. Every note was just amazing. He didn't throw anything away. When he plays a line he enunciates every note. And each one, each little nuance of those notes, they are fried in your head, you can't turn away. As good a musical performance as I ever saw. Prince was up there. I am not really able to think of anyone else who came close. I've seen a lot of shows. He had gotten clean when I saw him, it was a very uplifting kind of vibe at that show. It was churchy. He wanted to testify, he seemed like he really wanted us to know he was grateful to be clean, to be playing music. He had stuff on his mind. A lot of gratitude. It felt really special, it was way more than just some blues guitar flamethrower show. He really transcended expectations.
@@richardgrove7040 As a fan of Prince (I have all his albums), there are many guitarists more talented. You just left Hendrix, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, David Gilmour, Carlos Santana, any guitarist you wish from Lynrd Skynrd, Buddy Guy, and SRV's Godfather: Albert King off that list. Now tell me there's not anyone on this list more talented &/or skillful than Prince.
I wouldn't say best blues vocalist. But definitely one of the most excellent blues guitar and improvisational players ever. I hear him in John mayer a lot
Almost 21 million views for a guitarist who passed away on August 27, 1990. He is a legend that will still be remembered for at least another 200 years.
I feel like I’m watching Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Something about that cat. Did he come back just to play guitar and sing the blues? He’s shy. This sound check is gold! 💕
It's my understanding that they recorded all of their albums as one, as in they didn't record the individual parts and overlay they just played like they would at a show and recorded it. That's tight right there, go listen with that in mind and it gives a new appreciation to the albums.
I love how he plays that opening riff almost like he's trying to surprise the band, but they're all so good too that they're like "Nice try you pimp lookin wizard. Not today."
I'm just thankful that someone had the foresight to record this sound check so we can all just hear the true magnificence that was SRV in a setting where there was no audience to impress.
I would love to know where this took place. I saw him in ‘87 at the historic Alabama Theater in downtown Birmingham. Small, intimate theater. This set reminds me of it. Small stage, wooden theater seats.
@@BL-lh1mi Small world I'm in TTown and know exactly where that theater is located. Unfortunately I wasn't in attendance for that performance. I have seen some great concerts in Bham both at the bjcc and oak mountain over the years.
I was never inside SRV's head, but sometimes there's no need or wish to impress anyone. You just play good because you can, it sounds good to you, you feel good doing it. I guess it's obvious SRV liked the blues lol granted, some guys are show offs, but SRV looks a lot more like he was feeling it than he was a show off
@@segueoyuri I agree with you totally and perhaps using the word impress was not the best choice meant it to mean playing without an audience where there isn't as much pressure perhaps. But yes SRV seemed to play by feeling and instinct guided by heart and soul.
Clapton once said something similar in an interview years after his death. "We played on the same bill on his last two gigs. On the first night, I watched his set for about half an hour and then I had to leave because I couldn't handle it. I knew enough to know that his playing was just going to get better and better. His set had started, he was like two or three songs in, and I suddenly got this flash that I'd experienced before so many times whenever I'd seen him play, which was that he was like a channel. One of the purest channels I've ever seen, where everything he sang and played flowed straight down from heaven. Almost like one of those mystic Sufi guys with one finger pointing up and one finger down. That's what it was like to listen to. And I had to leave just to preserve some kind of sanity or confidence in myself."
You’re probably a fine player, just have to find your own “spot” and please, don’t ever compare yourself to anyone else: *Every player is unique and so are you.* Now go lock yourself in somewhere and do nothing but play most all day every day until you think you’re “OK.” Truth is, no one ever thinks they’re all that good because the competition with yourself is the toughest “rival,” the highest standards you’ll ever aspire to: We’re just never satisfied with our own playing, truly. Enjoy yourself-it’s suppose to not only be a process of learning, discovering, mastering etc. but a deep joy. We loose that feeling when we kinda forget why we started doing this in the first place ;-)
2024....and still we seek , listen to, appreciate and sit in wonderment the talent, the sound, the energy....the master. SRV... ..there is Only One. You are missed sir. You've been gone now almost as long as you were here on the planet. What a crime your passing was to us left behind.
I'm from England and my uncle taught me to play guitar and he was a huge SRV fan once id heard his music I was hooked. I even ended up travelling to Dallas to put flowers on his memorial just to thank him for showing us what's possible. LEGEND

Had the privilege to see Stevie live in Seattle 1983. They were the opener for Men at Work. I was 15, Stevie who? Two songs in my love of Blues guitar was set in my soul. Seems the good ones always leave us to soon, but they will be remembered forever.
When you are a conduit you become the music, sleepy, tyrd or not... and notice that he does not play a lick or two and then go to the next one but honors the whole song in complete... that is soul of music... that is Stevie Ray Vaughan... Legend of all time...
When I Saw/Heard Stevie Live A Few Months Before He Died (w/Joe Cocker, No Less) - He Spoke To The Audience About His Sobriety & The Intense Journey He Had Just LIVED Thru...I Was Just STUNNED!! I Really Had Had NO Idea!!! But I Was Absoultely ELATED That He HAD Come Thru It & Was Sharing His Story! I Had Joined AA Years Before - But Hearing The Story Of A Life & Death Stuggle Like Stevie's From HIM ONSTAGE - From ANYONE Famous & Sucessful, From Any Musician, Was So UNHEARD Of - I Was Just SO Thrilled For Him! And I Remember Thinking As Stevie Spoke - I Hope At Least MOST People In This Crowd Are Really HEARING THIS!!! God Bless You, SRV!!🙏
SRV! I only got to see him once. Back in '84. But I still remember that day like it was yesterday. The gig was fabulous, of course. Afterward, there was a group of us wanting an autograph. I brought along my Texas Flood album. Will never sell it! One of my friends waiting with me had some problems at home before he got to the gig, and forgot his album, and had nothing to sign. There was a "Lobby---->" sign near us, (a make shift piece of cardboard, not metal or something that would be missed by the venue) and was to use that. When he handed it to SRV, he looked at it and laughed a little saying, "You kiddin' me, man?" He then turned to a guy standing near him and said a few words I couldn't make out, while gesturing to a few leather bags a few feet away. He pulled out a promo 8x10 glossy of Stevie playing live and signed it, giving it to my friend. I have much respect for the elders. But no one could match SRV's skill, style, and being a good human, like he was. R.I.P. Stevie! You are sorely missed!!
Hey PGeorge...I seen him in 86 in Spokane Opera House. He was headlining...Bonnie Raitt opened for him and after her show she came back out and played w/Stevie. My wife bought tickets for this 16.50 a piece and was center/4th row. She actually asked if she did good. She was unaware of what she was about to experience. She had only heard of him because I spoke about it and listened to him at home. So her gift was one that I still reach over and give her an occasional hug for. Fabulous show in a setting that had excellent sound...what a memory! I do indeed miss the man who brought the guitar back into the limelight in the midst of being bombarded by shitty new wave bands. he was a shining light in the music industry in the mid 80's.
Saw Stevie and his band with my then girlfriend Virginia and a friend who got us tickets for the Clash at SB Bowl. This was my treat. He played at Campbell Hall in UCSB. We had second row. The show was not sold out. It was mid 1980’s and he hadn’t exploded yet. I am a guitar player and into the blues so was excited to hear him play. He was amazing! Played behind the back, behind his head, with his teeth. Did many show stopping trick with the guitar. He had a slow blues number that he did and sat on the edge of the stage, we were so close to him. It was memorable moments. Just an incredible talent. Many of the good ones go early, one of the cruel things of life. Travel well Stevie . .
Oh, I see you're out of the high-platform snake-skin-boots with the live gold-fish in the heel. Disappointing. Do you sell gold-fish boot-food food btw? I'm running out.
The first time I saw SRV was when he was opening for Robert Plant on his Now and Zen tour. It was at an amphitheater called GreatWoods in MA I had no idea who he was, I was there to see Plant and I'm sure it was the same for about 95% of the people there. When he came out on stage I was (without exaggeration) one of about 20 people actually in our seats, he looked out at us, looked at his band, and then ripped into the nastiest bluesiest guitar solo I'd ever heard, after a few minutes his band jumped in and the just they just rocked the place. With in 10 minutes every seat was full of people all saying "Wholly shit who is this guy!" He made like 8000 fans in 10 minutes, and for the rest of his show he just tore our faces off. I'd never seen music pour through a man like that before, I've seen people who could play Clapton, VanHalen, Vai, I even saw John Lee Hooker. Those guys could play, with SRV it just seemed to flow out of him.
I had the honor to see him play 9 times so many years ago now. I still get goose bumps when I listen to his amazing tone, and the emotion he played with. He played one show at a Polish American Beach club in Mass. He was going to play with the Stray Cats, who didn't show up. He played for three hours. It started pouring rain at one point. He stopped playing the song (Come on), and started playing Texas Flood. It was the best show I ever saw. People screaming, ten feet from the stage, and me staring. He looked around while playing some amazing licks, and looked right at me. He gave a thumbs up and a smile to this mesmerized guy, and then right back into it. A moment I won't ever forget.
Yup Good old Greatwoods is like 25 minutes from my house. Now I think its the Comcast Center now. If you go there watch out for the ^%$ holes in the golf carts.
Best is always a subjective thing. I just have my own personal top ten, but not really a “best”. Besides Stevie (in no particular order): Gary Moore, Jeff Beck, Rory Gallagher, Eddie Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Joe Bonamassa, Roy Buchanan, David Gilmore, Derek Trucks, Eric Clapton. Cheers.
No, he wasn't the best imo . He was very good and a great showman , but plenty before him were as good or better . SRV was in the right place at the right time. To me Johnny Winter is a true original and a better more interesting player .
Millions of dollars some of these entertainers put into their bullshit shows and NONE of them can compare to an SRV sound check like this!! A damn SOUND CHECK people!!!! Absolutely none of them can compare to this! RIP Stevie, we miss you so much. 😢💔🎸🎵

I love this man! Stevie I met at a concert back stage with Greg Allman opening. My husband at the time was the third act. Very interesting to met this man who was so shy and had very few words to say. He was a man who live for the music! At that time so did I. Now, I’m 64, and I still love the music of Stevie. I’ve watched this video probably 50 times over the years - it still stuns me every time, he was so damn stellar. Man, I’m gonna love that guy til the end of eternity…
I understand what you were going for with this comment but to say SRV was "talented" actually robs him of the recognition he deserves in my opinion. What you are seeing and hearing in this video is the culmination of thousands upon thousands of hours of hard work and dedication on the part of mister Stevie Ray Vaughn not even taking his band into account. Typically people that don't actually seriously play music have this nebulous concept of "talent". The reality is that noone is born able to play. Greats are made not born and SRV worked to an insane degree to bring this to us.
@@jackcoleman1784 This is the ultimate truth. All the talk of child prodigies and born with talent is bogus. The amount of hours they've put into "perfect" practice makes them look like geniuses. Highlight on the "perfect" "accurate" practice. because all musicians have certain things that they struggle with. So these items have to be worked on constantly and rigorously. There's no talent. It's just practice. Musicians are made by what they hear in their childhood (and are influenced by) and what they've worked on through their formative years.
Stevie Ray was the reason I got sober I admired the man and thought if he could I could If this was January he got sober in the fall of 86 I saw his last show at Alpine Valley I slept briefly when I got home to wake up that he had died I cried all day
Same here. Drove 12 hours home from Minnesota back to Chicago, slept 2 hours and went to alpine valley for this show. On the way out we walked past those helicopters. Early the next morning I got the call
I saw his last show at Alpine too. Unfortunately, I was too Fucked up to remember much. I sobered up six months later. I knew he had sobered up a few years before he died. Great example, though too short of a life. Tragic.

Just introduced my 16-year-old daughter to this man’s playing. She has been receiving therapy for a learning deficiency including some “music” to “wake up” parts of her brain. I figured why not music like this and other music with various styles of guitar riffs. She really likes it! My theory is that today’s music lacks a lot of needed variety of elements. Synthesizers can only do so much. Parents/Grandparents turn your kids/grandkids to this music. It’s much better for their brains and it can bridge the generations.
That’s wonderful such a good parent I’m incredibly touched by your story. Music will inspire her as she discovers and makes connections between the artists and their art. 👏 I think there’s no such thing as a learning deficiency we should look at it as a “teaching deficiency” everyone is different and learns differently.
He treats his practice like a performance in front of folks because he's a real musician. Not just serious about when an audience is there but serious about music he's playing all the time. They way he play when people are present is the way he always plays. He's the most expressive. If you're only into a crowd present when playing then you can't be a true hearted musician like SRV and you most likely won't sound good audience or not.
Some people are just born with something extra . this gift of his is what made him a cut above the rest . he plays with such feeling that it affect us in a powerful way, that makes us feel the music intensely . i guess that's what they mean when they say, "that man has soul' . he was born to play the guitar . his death was devastating to all who loved his music . in Dallas, the day he died, we mourned by having a street party blasting his music . no one called the police . people just came out to be together and share our loss.
GREATEST COMMENT EVER ABOUT STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN BEST DAMN GUITARIST EVER AND ALWAYS WILL BE. LOVED THE BAND, DOUBLE TROUBLE AND THE GUY THAT JAMMED ON HIS KEY BOARDS.🤠 MY FAVORITE BLUES GUITARIST EVER AND ALL THE GROUP HE WAS LOVED SO MUCH.
F! Rolling Stones list. In my opinion he is the best guitarist ever and there are many who are greats but not like him. He was just one with the guitar. So said he was taken away so early. I couldn't even image what he would be like today. Hope to hear him in heaven playing.
He was that good... saw him play many times in Austin at the Continental club before he went and got famous ($2). Watching him play until 2 in the morning week after week was insane. Back then he always finished with Tin Pan Alley which he said was one of his all time favorite songs... the soul of blues he used to say.
M Weiler... I saw him play once in 1983 when I was 13 yrs old. It was some sort of outdoor venue. I can't remember. I wanna say near Bouldin Creek? Any ideas? Was it called The Backyard? Help me remember.💡
@@kellicouch5883 The Backyard was in Bee Caves near where Bee Cave rd hits '71. I saw a lot of great shows there including Willie, ZZ Top but never Stevie. June of '83 is when Texas Flood came out so it easily could have been as they were hosting a lot of great shows in those days. Glad you got to see him play. It was beyond amazing. When he played Tin Pan Alley I always thought he would snap the next of that Stratocaster he would bend it so much. OK... so here is another great memory from those days. Antone's was up on Guadalupe just north of campus. The Fabulous Thunderbirds with Jimmy Vaughn and Kim Wilson were the house band. When guys like Robert Cray, BB King, Buddy Guy and so many others would come through Stevie would often show up about midnight if he didn't have a gig, they would lock the doors at 2:00 and stop selling alcohol but you could stay in and watch them jam till late in the morning... thanks for letting me ramble down memory lane.
I grew up on 80's (mostly German and British) metal. I have everything recorded by SRV. I really think he was better then Hendrix and Clapton will tell you he was better then he was at the time.
Might trigger some folks here but I feel ya. SRV my favorite guitarist (and it's not even close...) but Megadeth-Rust in Peace is my favorite album. Metalheads can appreciate SRV, one and the same.

First and only time I saw Stevie was opening for, of all groups, The Moody Blues at the Spectrum in Philly in 1983 I believe. He took to the stage solo at first , I remember he played behind his back on one song. Just amazing!! Best opener for a headliner I have ever seen, and I've attended hundreds of concerts.

Darth Tom I saw him I think the same year at the Mann. Front Row. Everyone left because it stormed before the show, thinking it would be cancelled. Cleared up right before he went on. Stood right in front of him. He wore an all white suit and hat.
Stevie, from my home town Dallas. Saw hin in 1977 at the old Electric Ballroom playing with Bugs Henderson. Not very well known then, and I brought him a beer, and he handed me his guitar pick. I lost it in the parking lot in a drunken stupor. I am still killing myself over that.
I had never heard of Stevie Ray Vaughan before my dad showed me this video a few years back. I'm so glad he did, it made me discover one of my favorite (and arguably one of the best) musicians of all time!
With regret I did not come across SRV until long after he was gone. So love his music and am savoring every new song in his finite catalog. I envy those of you who were into him when he was still around. It must have been amazing.
I will attest to that. Stevie smoked Clapton that night. Early the next morning, local radio stations were reporting that it was Clapton in that helicopter crash.Things didn't get straightened out until later that day. What a shame, a clean and sober SRV taken away from us at his prime.
I cried that day when i hear the news on the radio....seeing this makes me wanna cry again...such lost potential and what coulda been over the years since then.
I saw him live along with Colin James in 1989 in Montreal. I was so close to the stage I could feel the vibes from the band! What a show!!! I remember I felt blessed to see Stevie and his band perform like they only could. He was my hero then and still is today. And I still miss him so much...
IMO, when a musician dies at their peak, it can sometimes be a good thing. There are plenty of musicians who have lived long lives and continued to simply play rehashed versions of their own songs and covers of others. Basically a shell of their former shelves. It is true that SRV could have produced plenty of music that was at the same level. But, if he had not crashed, things would unquestionably be different than they are perceived today. Some musicians that I love/loved that died young are Morrison, Croce, Hendrix, Allman and plenty others. I think their status has been elevated because they died young, so we romanticize their works, because we know there will never be more. Like I said, this is just my opinion.
I was at that event never forget the radio broadcast on the way home Clapton dodged that bullet thank God he was supposedly was going to fly with SRV that night flippen weather was foggy
One cannot learn this... My ears can't unhear this.. My eyes can't unsee this.. A soul can't unfeel him.. My heart can't unbreak. SVR pure humbleness but Lightening in a bottle fluid liquid gold. Never another. Fly high beautiful soul.....💔🎸

Man, this is some superhero guitar!! Looking like an outlaw, strolls casually in, nods & smiles at his people as he watches & listens, straps his Strat on, noodles for few seconds and then , like a force of nature..., turns around & starts rippin’! Watch his hands from like 1:30ish - 1:50 or so! SRV was lightning in a bottle .

Stevie hated singing actually so he may disagree 😂
I wouldn't say best blues vocalist. But definitely one of the most excellent blues guitar and improvisational players ever. I hear him in John mayer a lot

👍 This “sound check” blows 90% of todays music completely out of the water! A true master.
So true
I feel like I’m watching Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Something about that cat. Did he come back just to play guitar and sing the blues? He’s shy. This sound check is gold! 💕
Correction, this soundcheck blows 90% of all music completely out of the water, and that number even seems low.
Story was he just woke up drank his whiskey with cocaine in it walked out started shredding. I'm so glad he had gotten clean.
@@TheSarahbeach100 😯 but he did love to party. That’s the end for some of us eh? Nonetheless, his talent usurped it all …until it didn’t 😔
granted SRV is amazing....but imagine that band for a minute. When he goes, they go, no hesitation, from yawn to full throttle. What a crew!!!
Exactly, those guys were one. That fact allowed Stevie to just flow even more freely knowing Double Trouble and company were holding it down
Double trouble is very underrated. They're awesome
Agree 100%
FROM YAWN TO FULL THROTTLE. Nailed it you did!
Not today."
"You pimp lookin' wizard" You, Mr. Geisinger, have just added to my vocabulary.
Pimp looking wizard!! Lol! You win the internet!
True professionals all around
You literally had me snort water out my nose with that comment!😂😂
LOL!! Love it!!
Amen to that.
I never get tired of this sound check...
RIP SRV , you are missed

Yes
Strolls around, yawns, scratches his nose and then just goes 0 to 100 on that guitar ... amazing.
HE DOES IT IN HIS SLEEP!
@ginger. Precisely my EXACT thought. Sweet comment.
Long live SRV.
SRV makes me simultaneously want to play my guitar and quit playing altogether. Inspirational and intimidating.
I hear ya
HearHear!!
You’re probably a fine player, just have to find your own “spot” and please, don’t ever compare yourself to anyone else: *Every player is unique and so are you.*
Now go lock yourself in somewhere and do nothing but play most all day every day until you think you’re “OK.” Truth is, no one ever thinks they’re all that good because the competition with yourself is the toughest “rival,” the highest standards you’ll ever aspire to: We’re just never satisfied with our own playing, truly. Enjoy yourself-it’s suppose to not only be a process of learning, discovering, mastering etc. but a deep joy. We loose that feeling when we kinda forget why we started doing this in the first place ;-)
Absolutely do I want to try to be him no I realize that's impossible
2024....and still we seek , listen to, appreciate and sit in wonderment the talent, the sound, the energy....the master. SRV... ..there is Only One. You are missed sir. You've been gone now almost as long as you were here on the planet. What a crime your passing was to us left behind.

R.I.P. Stevie! You are sorely missed!!
that's one more time than I got to see him. Kinda just discovering SRV now. Wish I'd discovered him in my youth, I could've seen him too...
Saw him in ‘84 as well. He opened for Huey Lewis and the news. I don’t remember much about them that night, but I’ll never forget SRV!
A fine Human Being- R.I.P.
Fasfeddy
Travel well Stevie . .

The master that will never be forgotten. 24 years of a “void” in the music world!
Wow how lucky you were, and how interesting.
Yup Good old Greatwoods is like 25 minutes from my house. Now I think its the Comcast Center now. If you go there watch out for the ^%$ holes in the golf carts.

No, he wasn't the best imo . He was very good and a great showman , but plenty before him were as good or better . SRV was in the right place at the right time. To me Johnny Winter is a true original and a better more interesting player .

SRV so ridiculously talented. That shit can't be taught, that's purely in his DNA. Good lord I miss him.
He practiced. ALOT. It's said he slept with the guitar. But it does seem like the guitar is a part of him, like his arm.
Some more than others, I love the interview of Clapton talking about SRV's "gift"

Good on you, fantastic idea.Good luck and good health to you and your daughter.

Nice one bro!
His brother Jimmie
The way he's half asleep, yawning and all, and just launches into this blistering riff. It's just incredible.

Thats awesome.

How the hell can you thumb this down is beyond me? I’m a “ Metal head” and this man was a frikin master!!! What sound! Wowzers😳
I grew up on 80's (mostly German and British) metal. I have everything recorded by SRV. I really think he was better then Hendrix and Clapton will tell you he was better then he was at the time.
Some "people" live to thumbs down everything. That tells me all I need to know about them.
Might trigger some folks here but I feel ya. SRV my favorite guitarist (and it's not even close...) but Megadeth-Rust in Peace is my favorite album. Metalheads can appreciate SRV, one and the same.
@ross from britain Ok, you play both and report back with how difficult they were in comparison. Oh, wait, that's right. We don't care.
SRV is amazing just waking up!! Man...I really miss him!
When you have as much talent is Stevie Ray Vaughan does sit back shut up and listen to one of the greatest guitarist ever to walk the planet you will not see his kind pass this way again for a long long time thanks for the memories may you rest in peace
Your comment is perfect!
Man was a beast. Most people don’t put this much fire into the actual show let alone the soundcheck.
Dude just loves to play. Comes through in his sound which is a major contributor to his popularity. It’s just joyful.
I felt like I lost a family member on Aug 27 1990! The greatest guitarist of all time and I was blessed to see him live 2 times. Gives me chills to watch him play. What a loss
First time I ever cried from a celebrity dying
Yes I also saw him twice. The first with Lonnie mack opening. The second he opened for Jeff Beck. What I like about this is he looks like he just woke up. And still sounds great.
Amen to that! I was so, fortunate to see SRV w/The FabT-Birds and then w/Joe Cocker in 1990, so was Jenny H.
Stevie Ray Vaughan's sound checks were better than 99% of all live shows ever. And that 1% was Stevie Ray Vaughan shows.
IDK about that. I saw Blanks 77 on my 17th birthday, in 1997 at GILMAN ST. IN BERKELY. Rene Wasted can sure wail on a guitar, and she was built like a LINE BACKER. ua-cam.com/video/NCCrKaPCvA4/v-deo.html
This is so good, it brings tears to my eyes. Damn he was good..... He was pretty much everything........
Thank you for posting and reminding us what the BEST looks and sounds like!
I wouldn't be playing blues without this guy, true legend and a hell of a guy ❤
You can tell Stevie just woke up! This is rudimentary to him, second nature, And He absolutely slayes it , on a sound check!
And also with a cocaine and coffee ☕ brealfast
GREATEST COMMENT EVER FOR STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN AND DOUBLE TROUBLE BAND AND KEYBOARDIST. THANK YOU.🔥🤠🧡
@@barrontrump3943 So true later in life BEFORE HE WAS TAKEN FROM US. SUCH A TRAGEDY. HE GOT HELP BEACAME A GREAT GUITARIST AND BLUES, SINGER FOREVER..🤠🔥🧡😊💋
@@barrontrump3943 He beat it you do drugs? Give it up to the band they alll quit. Don't think the KEYBOARDIST did drugs, not sure.🤠🔥👍
@@barrontrump3943 he looks high as …. It was the 80’s man. Shreds it though.
I love this: Yawns...wipes sleepy eyes...then proceeds to casually do stuff with a guitar I'll never do.
Brent Robert correction, no one’ll ever do*
Brent Robert him opening a can of cat food probably sounded frikin great 👍🏻
Get in there and practice, i just got done, be inspired not defeated!
You can do it, and SRV proves you can. Also, he did it sober which I find amazing.
Brent Robert just watch, like stevie did, then master and be your OWN master my brother. SRV forever and the blues for ever
First and only time I saw Stevie was opening for, of all groups, The Moody Blues at the Spectrum in Philly in 1983 I believe. He took to the stage solo at first , I remember he played behind his back on one song. Just amazing!! Best opener for a headliner I have ever seen, and I've attended hundreds of concerts.
scubarulz Great story thanks for sharing !
scubarulz I was at that show. I saw SRV a hand full of times in the Philly area in the 80's. The last time was 89 1st row at the Spectrum. The Fire Meets The Fury Tour with Jeff Beck. Check out the Facebook page; The Philadelphia Spectrum - A Tribute to all of the classic rock concerts
scubarulz you are lucky to have seen him live.
Darth Tom I saw him I think the same year at the Mann. Front Row. Everyone left because it stormed before the show, thinking it would be cancelled. Cleared up right before he went on. Stood right in front of him. He wore an all white suit and hat.
TiEDyeDEyeZ Just looked it up, it was '87. I was 17. Live Alive tour.
That is the benchmark for a cold play just starting the day. That guy is so underrated and had so much ahead of him.
Soooooo glad this was recommended in 2020! He was such an amazing guitarist. Truly one of the best.
I had to dig so deep to find this.
living2burn1 Recommended in 2021 as well ! RIP Stevie on the 27 th of August Stay All Safe
Used to see Freddie King at the Electric Ballroom. And Bugs was a beast on guitar. Miss him, Freddie, and Stevie terribly.
Amen to that! I too was born in 1958. We probably were there at the same time.
***** Wow. That is way cool!
I too remember seeing him at the Old Electric Ballroom. Bugs Henderson was also fantastic to watch!.
Bugs,,,so very underrated.. You and I were probably there at the same time. When music was music.
The man barely scratched the surface of his talent, only God knows what we missed. RIP S.R.V.
God has some of the best with him. Stevie, bb and Johnny
Amen to that My Friend!
I had never heard of Stevie Ray Vaughan before my dad showed me this video a few years back. I'm so glad he did, it made me discover one of my favorite (and arguably one of the best) musicians of all time!
Remembering Stevie! If Buddy Guy says he's it, he's it.
Stevie Let's his guitar do the talking for him. Buddy Guy or not...
BB King said, Steve was even better than me! Agreeee!

With regret I did not come across SRV until long after he was gone. So love his music and am savoring every new song in his finite catalog. I envy those of you who were into him when he was still around. It must have been amazing.
Music just flows through him. Angel alien cowboy! What a magnificent creature! You are missed!
"Angel alien cowboy". Priceless comment, unbelievable talent. Cheers.
I saw his very last concert in Alpine Valley, Wisconsin. What a once in a lifetime talent.
I worked with a guy that was at that show and he said stevie blew Claptons set away
I will attest to that. Stevie smoked Clapton that night. Early the next morning, local radio stations were reporting that it was Clapton in that helicopter crash.Things didn't get straightened out until later that day. What a shame, a clean and sober SRV taken away from us at his prime.
There will NEVER be another Stevie Ray Vaughan...EVER!!!👑
Check out Dovidas!
Plenty of clones though
@@agems56agree Dovydas is an amazing guitarist singer, and multi-instrumentalist! Love his music!
Even a SRV sound check brings a tear to my eye he was soo amazing!
27 years later, I miss Stevie Ray so much.
metoo!😎
man has it been that long ?
I cried that day when i hear the news on the radio....seeing this makes me wanna cry again...such lost potential and what coulda been over the years since then.
News of his sudden passing, flat out busted the morale of us serving overseas at the time. A horrible day.
Remember exactly where I was. On my way from Dallas to Fort Worth when I heard the news on the radio.
I saw him live along with Colin James in 1989 in Montreal. I was so close to the stage I could feel the vibes from the band! What a show!!! I remember I felt blessed to see Stevie and his band perform like they only could. He was my hero then and still is today. And I still miss him so much...
The day he died we ALL lost something that was PRICELESS!!!!
gcjbhar only musician I ever cried for.
I agree totally!
We never had it. He was never really here on Earth.
SVR pure humbleness but
Lightening in a bottle fluid liquid gold. Never another. Fly high beautiful soul.....💔🎸
Beautiful words and sentiment. Thanks Cindy. Never cried over the death of someone I didn’t know personally... except SRV
Thnx
Just being on stage with a cowboy hat and a leopard print suit jacket at the same time makes him the best guitarist ever.
Thanks for posting this and keeping it alive. Absolute freakin magic.
The guitar came to life in SRV's hands. He's gone but not forgotten.
Joe Pistolas I just found out about srv and he's amazing! Sadly tho he died :/
Joe Pistolas he will never be forgotten! The music will always live on in his memory! R.I.P. Mr.SRV
only now? wow....you have some catching up to do!
Joe Pistolas amen 🙏
say that then
The most amazing thing I have ever seen or heard and it's just a sound check..
They ain't no sound to be checked- THAT MAN IS READY- HELL HE WAS BORN READY!!!
I agree he was born ready
Yep. The sound check was for the rest of the band.
You are so right, he was granted to play like that, and we were lucky to listen to him he is still living through his music...
this made me laugh out loud
Was ready :(
I visit this sound check to have a listen to what we lost damn what a talent he was RIP Mr. Vaughan 👍🇺🇸👍
He is so comfortable with his guitar it's magic.
I love Stevie's drummer, it's like he could read his mind, awesome mullet too
"There was no one better than him on this planet. Really unbelievable"
"What set him apart from all others was the awe he inspired in his peers."
.....Eric Clapton
Syria Mosque was an epic venue... broke my heart to see it go
Stevie truely gifted did not get the recognition he deserved amazing hands miss you always
I cried my eyes out when Stevie Ray Vaughn died. Still tears me up that we lost him just as he was peaking...
The sky is still cryin' !!
Terry Grant Me to.He miss me very much, but I'm happy to listen his magic music ✌
Yeah,me too.
I get stuck on utube every time when I see Stevie. Some kind of wonderful happens when I hear him!! Get stuck in a vortex! He's still alive in my heart. A gift to the world 🌎 from heaven ❤ everyday Stevie, everyday
