This is a perfect opportunity to pimp up some toys ! I think Ash did a video or to going through the rules, that might be helpful. The technlog mechs were a nice find .
This game is pretty rad. It’s written by Ash at Gorilla Miniature Games. He has a UA-cam channel and plays the game on there! I look forward to you playing this!
FWIW, there's only one faction (North-Star) that can put six mechs on the table in a normal or campaign game, and doing so would leave you with nothing but Rookie pilots and zero benefit from their arcology special rules. Most other factions max at four with Bolschev at max five. Four is probably the norm for games (and your only choice for Ghosts of Tiamat), with maybe three for Ronin, although there's room for doing lots of spare models so you can field different mixes of light, medium and heavy frames. It's also worth considering what loadouts you want to use regularly when selecting frame sizes, since the 500 Material budget is in place regardless of how large or small your mechs are and heavy frame loadouts cost a lot more than light ones do.
That was my reading, for one off games I was thinking 4 mediums. But I have ordered lights and a heavy for flexibility and for the fun of building mechs.
We decided to reduce by 20% the big bases, to use 40mm, 80mm and 120mm. I'm using Whisper models for lights, Infinity Tags for mediums and Gundams for large models. I plan to convert the Gundam to something I like better and getting the articulations fixed so it doesn't move and avoid scruffing the paint job
Sounds interesting, and always great to find cheap models, even if only as a platform for conversions. Just looked at their spaceships... might have to dig out my BFG rulebook!
I've picked it up but other than having a read through I've done nothing with it yet. I'm thinking I might go with 15mm scale as I have some sci fi stuff already so could also be used with that.
I think my first opponent will be using Gundams in 1/44 so that's basically 15mm so I'll be trying to scale my mechs to that, but still on the 50-150mm bases. Or did you mean smaller robots like battle tech?
@@ScruffyCrow I was looking at Ground Zero Games and Alternative Armies 15mm scale miniatures. They both do mechs for that scale so would work for Gamma and my 15mm sci fi army. Also could probably reduce the size of the playing surface.
you could keep the ranges the same and just play with smaller models. Also if you havent already checked them out Ral Partha do a 15mm range called Critical Mass
Hi from 2024 I'm potentially interested. Other that Heroclix, I have little to no exp with tabletop games, or Pen and Paper Rpgs. But I'm coming in from the model customization side (which I am also a beginner) so i have a few questions: - about models when the number is higher - say 1 / 100 scale - isn't that physically smaller than something in say a 1/72 scale? - whats the diameter of the largest base available for this game? - is there a height/size limit to the models we can use? for as long as we can fit them into the bases?
Not looked in the book for a while but the scales are not really important more the model base size. Even the base sizes are not super important as long as you have 3 diffrent ones such as my examples of 50mm, 100mm and 150mm.
@@ScruffyCrow Yeah they had awesome mini's and unfortunately someone did a kickstarter and stole all the money so after that they'll never get brought back :(
Like you I've picked up some of the Joy Toy mini's and some Robo Gear's. In addition I've gotten some Marvel Ironmonger and Hammer Drone action figures to use as heavies and mediums. Also the Xyber 9 action figure range has some suitable heavies ( most notably the CLOD gorilla style mech ) and the Pacific Rim action figures are good as heavies, though will cost you a bit.

I do have another toy to keep an eye out for, now i need a large robot to convert to a heavy.
The 30 Minute Missions mech kits would be good for this.
I've seen them, they won't fit the look I'm going for but I might pick one up out of interest.

I also keep meaning to play Last Days also by Ash iirc, i'll have to take a look at the channel.

Now I have my eye out for some kind of humanoid robot around 20cm high to convert up.
Looks like an interesting game, thanks for the video.

Just got my book and prob going to use my AT-43 Tacarms just gotta workout who else to put in there
I keep seeing these AT-43 Mechs, they look really nice, shame dont appear to be in production anymore.
@@ScruffyCrow No the company went under over a decade ago (Rackham) they had some awesome models.
AHH, I'm aware of Rackham's fantasy Confrontation line, some beautiful minis there.

looks like some are still available from cadwallon but i'v seen cocerns over legality and the quality from there.
