I ran my first sub 3 for the marathon with Endorphin Elites this year with 14 minute improvement from my previous best. Can't complain. They work well for me.
When I was younger in my serious racing days, I would buy 2-3 pairs of the same shoe because every manufacturer finds a way to ruin a good shoe and it takes 1-2 iterations to get it back to being a good model.
Everybody has their own opinion but most other reviewers and runners I’ve seen are enjoying the 1080. I’m loving it as well! I plan on doing everything in the shoe.
Glad you got to enjoy them. Mine are terrible. After 7 weeks the grip on the bottom is highly worn and the foam starting to shred. They lost about 5 mm of stack height and were just too unstable for me. That said, the uppers are incredible for my foot, so comfortable. I’ve replaced with Nimbus 25s that definitely aren’t as soft but are more stable. The uppers are great but not quite as good as the 1080s. I use both as slow jogs and walking the dogs and use mizuno wave sky 7 for longer and faster runs.
I had to retire my nimbus25’s. Absolutely terrible shoe. I don’t find the 1080v13 unstable for me. I couldn’t get a good lockdown with nimbus and found it to be completely unstable. I hurt my back running with them, never again.
This was a personal and biased opinion. As someone who has run in all these shoes, they are some of my highlights of the year!! Please remember to always try before you buy, and just cuz someone think they suck on the internet, it doesn’t mean you won’t like it!

its one of the est selling shoes NB has ever made. it's one of the hottest shoes on the market right now. most folks love it. I didn't like it either tho. too unstale with the insane compliance in the heel.
They are one of the best daily trainers ever made. He claimed they lack stability which is a blatant lie, you have to try really hard to twist an ankle on these. Also they are pretty responsive for a semi-max cushion shoe, which is impressive
Speaking as somebody who often suffers heel pain from running , i found the 1080 superb, it was like it was made for me. I guess it is a very individual thing when picking a running shoe
if you have heel pain it's likely plantar fasciitis. what you need is a shoe with little to no drop to get the pressure off the forefoot. thats how you treat plantar. luckily NB do usually have lower drop than other brands, but you could look into legit zero drop brands like altra or topo. even a saucony kinvara but thats about the same drop as most NB. Some hoka as well, mostly the Gaviota 5. great shoe.
Lol apparently I've had 2/3 of the worst shoes of the year 😂 both the 1080v13 and Invincible 3 but I actually liked both! Invincible 3 I must be lucky because I had put ~400mi on them earlier this year and never had the heel slipping issues that everyone else has but know that I'm in the minority for that and imo 1080v13 was essentially mis-categorized by New Balance, feel like it's closer to the replacement for the MoreV4 instead of the 1080! I have only put ~50mi on them so far but I've actually really liked it so far as my easier/recovery shoe even though that isn't really the intended purpose according to New Balance! My personal worst of the year was Brooks Hyperion Max, very lightweight but felt the foam was just way too firm and found myself wanting to opt for just about anything else when going to do intervals/speedwork!
I hope that I will like the Invincible 3 that I got in a great Black Friday deal. For now , the Gel-Nimbus 25 is my most comfy shoes of the year with the Infinity Run 4 coming in second and third is the 1080 v13 with the Asics GT 2000 12 .
That is fortunate. I really wanted to like the invincible 3, but the heel slippage was the worst I’ve had in any shoe and whatever I did wouldn’t fix it. I liked it otherwise. Hopefully the 4th will be right for more of us.
Finally someone has the stones to bash the NB1080. Ive run in NB shoes since the 1980's and I am running in the 880v12 and 880V13's currently, but I've always hated the 1080. Its overpriced"NB Flagship" model designed to drain customers wallets and then break their ankles and screw up their feet as a whole. Never felt so unsafe as when wearing those heavy bits of rubbish
Totally agree with the 1080 review. Just ran 20 miler this past weekend and although I’m the biggest 1080 fan the 1080v13 let me down during the run. Although very comfortable It felt unresponsive after about 14-15 miles. The v11 was amazing and v12 was also good but the v13 is maybe the one I liked the least.

Too many UA-cam runners sit on the fence now because they are worried about offending brands, they are too interested in the “gifted” shoes or promo/benefits of pushing product.
Never run in any of these but what I can say is that it all depends on the runner and their feet and how far and fast they are running. As a casual trail/road runner who does anywhere between 15-30 miles total per week at a 9-10 min pace on average, the Hoka Challenger 7’s have been great on both surfaces and the feet and legs feel great after. I think for the more experienced runners, it’s just a matter of trial and error in determining what works better as I’ve seen both good and bad reviews on the shoes I like. Long story short, try to avoid buying online and if you have a try and buy store nearby, that’s your best bet in finding the shoe that best fits you and how you run.
My first 2 runs in Invincibles 3 made my feet hurt a lot, I couldn't secure my feet well, so I did something to shrink them a little, and placed them on the dryer. Next run, they fit perfectly, no hurting on my feet. Not the greatest solution but it worked for me.
The Nikes were not quite as soft but in the same range, both two of the softest aka most compliant midsoles ever, the 1080v13 is softer though, it's the softest shoe on the market, but... the nike was a lot more geometrically stable than this shoe.
The 1080’s demise is such a shame, as it was one of the few shoes that bucked the bizarre trend of wide fits only being for super soft shoes. There is no correlation between foot width and pace, or preference for a more feelsome connected shoe. I used to put 400km a month on the V10 and 11.
The V3s were great for me, never had heel slip. kept me healthy through 500 miles. Heavy for sure but idc it’s recovery haha. Appreciated the extra stability for sure, especially out on the trails.
Wow! You have a very interesting point of view, especially Endorphin Elites. Otherwise, I cannot wait for your best running shoes in 2023! All the best!
For me, the worst was the Puma Foreverrun. Heel slip, lace pressure and slappy. I don't need stability, but thought it may just be a nice cushioned option as Puma shoes have generally worked for me. I hated it. My wife has the Endorphin Elite and Pro and chooses to race in the Elite. She loves the Pro too, whereas as I have the Pro and I'm underwhelmed. I prefer the Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 2. I have tried the Superblast in store twice and couldn't get a nice fit, plus they felt slappy. They get such good reviews though, so I'm eager to give them one more try. As you say tough, impossible to buy, at least in my US 12 size. I did find them on Amazon for $572 though. Can't say I'm all that tempted by that.
Thanks for the takes!! About the 1080 line. What do you think about the v11 and v12? I use larger size (EU 50) and there are not many options (specially because these shoes cost almost a minimum wage) so these are one of the options that I found on online stores.
i got the 1080 v13 as well and you are right about that shoe and i watched other reviews and nobody mentioned its unstability. as you said, a sharp corner and you turn your ankle. i did some shuttle runs in it.. DANGEROUS! ( even without shuttle runs are these shoes dangerous) i now use them only for walk. they are comfortable as hell and i love to walk in them like i would walk on clouds :D if running, just straight, no turns :D
Agreed about the 1080. Not only is it disappointing, it's actually a bad shoe. It's a far cry from the real running shoes of extremely high quality and engineering of prior 1080s.
I really love that you have a skinny heel too as I have terrible trouble with heel slippage! I'm sorry, I bet you don't love it, though. ;) But it will help me a LOT in future to determine if a shoe is worth trying, after listening to your takes. :D I also tried the Saucony Endorphin Pro when looking for my very first carbon plate shoe for racing...and I couldn't stand it on my foot just running around the shoe store, yikes. And I love my every day Saucony Guides! I went with the New Balance Fuel Cell Rc Elite which have a super lock down and feel so good all around! Thanks and enjoy the journey, Megan
These videos are interesting but i always feel people's opinions on trainers can differ a lot based on what works for them. Also what feels good in a store may not work out long term once youve been actively running in them. Its a shame trainers cost so much and most people have to learn these things the hard way.
Unfortunately this shoe review will be filled by partisan comments by shoe sellers telling everyone how wonderful these shoes are 🙄 Congratulations on this very unbiased post. It's obvious you don't have a preferred manufacturer but that doesn't satisfy many of the shoe sellers that want to flog product. FWIW I've been in VLC for the past 8 weeks but currently injured and heading back to the UK next Sunday all the best and hope you enjoy the weekend. 👍
The 608 cross trainers 2018 and before were wonderful. I was a gym owner for 14 years. and wore them all the time. Also played racquetball and did wind sprints in them. SINCE 2018 the new Versions ( I bought some in 2023 after the last 8 pair wore out) are TERRIBLE with hard soles and thin inserts. My Plantar Faciitis that had been gone for 20 years came back in 3 days. I am now searching for new shoes. I would like to see New Balance go back to making them the way they did 2018 and before when made in Indonesia.
Agree!I have the 1080 V11 and it surprised me at the first time. However the midsole duration is bad.I have to leave it alone when came to 100K of running.
thats funny cuz the new 1080 is one of the hottest and best selling shoes NB has ever made. clearly the world loves it. I couldn't do mine either but my other half still has one and is okay with it, it's just too compliant in the midsole for me, the geometry is very unstable and that doesn't work with bad knees. I love my v12s tho. one of my favs of all time. sadly this very squishy trend seems here to stay cuz I've seen the 14 and it's more of the same.
Big fan of the Endorphin Elite. PRs at 10k, 21k and 42k. I haven’t run in the New Balance 1080v13 but I would consider it a recovery day shoe (that’s what I use the Novablast for too). I’m not as fast as Ben though…..
Great video Ben - I have the New Balance 1080 V11 and it is a fantastic do it all shoe - very surprised at the V13. I can second your opinion on the Endorphin Speed 3 - I have the Speed 2 and it is a top shoe.
My worst shoe of the year was the Saucony Endorphin Rift. On steep terrain the shoe cut the skin under my ankles and across my Achilles. Quite painful and ruined some socks. I wanted to like the shoe but the bloody mess kind of sealed the vote.
Ben, i think you have very narrow feet right? E.g. i got the Superblast and i had serious problems with the narrow toe box, send them back. I got the Endorphin Speed 3 (favorite of all time) and the Boston 12 in wide, great shoes. Endorphin Pro 3 where the same issue, to narrow but interestingly, i loce the Vaporfly 3, such a great shoe
Worst out of what? That would be helpful as well as what shoes you normally go for. There’s no way to try every shoe. That first shoe color is better than the website. They’d probably sell more if they represented it better. I haven’t paid more than $180 for shoes and refuse to since I’m not an elite runner and not making money from races. It’s silly for your average runner to pay over $200 or $300 for running shoes that wear out.
Ben, when there is heel slippage, one can do two things. First of all, pay attention to the sock. For example Infinity Run 1 worked with only some specific socks. Forefoot was sort of low (almost too low for first 200k before it loosened) but at the same time sock couldn't be very thin because of the heel section. Secondly, once you run more in the shoe (maybe something like 100 mls) it adjusts to your foot and subsequently, you can tie laces more. Partly heel slippage is a mental feeling that goes away. Of course there are shoes where lockdown is impossible but normally it's doable. Just use those extra eyelets for every running shoe pair and get to know the new shoe to figure out how it shoe be tied. Some need tighter laces down there, some in upper part and in some shoes the sock choice is the critical decision.
Worst race shoe for me: Asics Metaspeed Sky+. Just could not get on with it at all. The left shoe felt very tippy. Not an issue i've had with any other shoe and I found they werent as responsive as I had been told by other people who had them.
I ran my first sub 3 for the marathon with Endorphin Elites this year with 14 minute improvement from my previous best. Can't complain. They work well for me.
Congratulations, well done!! 🙌

Congratulations on this very unbiased post.
And why wouldn't they? It's what Ben did; gave his opinion.
Counter arguments are good, not bad.
Interesting, I also enjoyed V11 but they seem to last forever. Retired them after 1000k and there is still plenty of outsole. Different footstrike
@@schlossstadtlauferin8431 Maybe midsole is OK for light weight people. The outsole is quite durable so far.
Love your honesty on this video Ben!
I love my 1080V13 and feel the max cushion suits best for my knee problem
thats funny cuz the new 1080 is one of the hottest and best selling shoes NB has ever made. clearly the world loves it.
Got the Invincible 3, fully agree with you.
Have you tried the Aasics gel kinsei max? Curious your thoughts?
I love the 1080 v13
I absolutely love the 1080 v13 its my goto shoe! lots of folks think so too!!!
Personally love my Invincible 3s, but I get why he wouldn’t like it if he had those issues. I’ve never been in anything as comfortable as the 3s
In - or should I say on the long run, shoes save your legs more the lighter they are. The invincible falls at what it should be good at
I just ran the NYC MARATHON in the Endorphin Elite and love it! Cmon Ben haha😂
Bro hates the shoes that everyone else loves.
It's his opinion, what's so hard to understand? Bro bro bro bro bro
Is your favourite carbon shoe alphafly v1 or do you prefer any of the vaporflys or alphaflt v2?
Noice video
Big fan of the Endorphin Elite. PRs at 10k, 21k and 42k. I haven’t run in the New Balance 1080v13 but I would consider it a recovery day shoe (that’s what I use the Novablast for too). I’m not as fast as Ben though…..
The New Balance 1080 V13 is, by far, the BEST shoe I own. And I've tried DOZENS.
Ben- the blue 1080 you have is a different blue they show on website.i can find both blues in my home country in Asia.
Oh ok.. maybe they just uploaded the wrong image to the Uk website. As that is the only blue on there!
The invincible v3 seemed to have a break in period. After about 30 miles and a runners knot they were pretty good.
Hey Ben. I just stumbled across your videos. Is the 1080 v13 at least comfortable to you for walking around purposes?
The 1080v13 kicks ass.
Endorphin Pro 3 is simply incredible
Any options for cheap basic shoes just for like around the house, to and from work etc? Asics Versablast 3? Brooks Revel 5?
Have you tried the saucony sinister? Old traditional racer
NB 1080 running on marshmallow is like running in sand.
the 880 is a better shoe for less money
1080 is amazing now i can't trust your verdict
I gave up on y NB 1080's V12, they are horrible lifeless and so bloody heavy.
😁1080 is awful
Invincible 3s were such a cool looking shoe! However I just couldn't love them. Felt way too chunky haha
Saucony is too hard and NB is too soft. Skechers hyperburst is my type of ideal foam, or the monotonous consistency of good ol ultraboost
Pretty funny the first real running shoe I got was the NB 1080 and I didn’t like them at all (200+ miles)
Surprised about Invincible 3. I much prefer it to the Invincible 2.
You should have put the Pegasus 40 it’s horrible
What the hell is a kilometer!? Mate, we use miles on this side of the pond! Crikey
I really liked the Saucony Endorphin elite
So I have all 3 of the worst shoes of 2023 and I'm loving every single one of them.
I have invincible 3's and I don't have heel slip.
Agree for all three shoes
Your reviews, opinions and running style/gait are basically the opposite of mine lol
Good Luck for 2024
Just picked up the Novablast 3 for €75 in europe!
I have the Invibcible 3 and they just annoy me. Did 400Km in them and they are an recovery shoe only but will probably throw them out…
£285!! Maybe a video on best shoes for sub £100
