I appreciate a youtuber that pays for their own shoes and puts decent mileage into them 👍 im a puma convert with 2 in my 2 shoe rotation of the magnify 2 and Deviate 2.....i want to get the magmax 😊
I bought Magmax nitro for great price. Just did 12 km run today on wet trail/road. Works great. For dry roads, i will always prefer Superblast 1 and 2.
I would add another good quality of the Nitro foam in the Magmax. The longer you use the shoes the livelier they get. After initial break in this foam starts to shine even more.
I know this isnt ideal. but im a heavy runner (200 lbs) and joining a marathon in a month. Racing shoes seem too expensive for me. so this is what im looking at right now. Budget wise - puma magmax takes it, but that glycerin max looks awesome.
No worries, i ran my first marathon in september at a solid 220lbs bw, survived the whole thing in my gel nimbus 25 and had tons of fun! Go out there and enjoy the event mate you got it!
Best thing to do is find this type of video from 2021/2022/2023 and pick the “best shoes” from then. You’ll find a fantastic pair of shoes and they should be heavily discounted now as they are “old” (unless they are superblasts). Wishing you the very best of luck with your marathon 🍀🤞
You can probably find discounted older racing shoes even cheaper than the shoes in this video. And believe me the racing shoe will help you more at you marathon compared to these shoes.
I use ASICS gel Cumulus fit my long and recovery runs. Love them. So soft. Could you do a similar video for shoes for faster, shorter runs up to 10k? That's a trainer I really need now.
Thanks for the great video Ben! I have the Superblast 1 which I picked up on sale at the end of last year and have really enjoyed using them for most of my running this year. I’ve done over 800km in them so far and they are still going strong, so I think their durability does help to justify the higher price. As you said, they are just so versatile, but they are probably not the best option for easy recovery runs due to their firmness and I do have some faster carbon-plated shoes for racing (Nike Vaporfly 2 and Hoka Rocket X2). I recently picked up the Hoka Skyward X for easy recovery runs, but the funny thing is that I’ve grown to like them even more than my Superblasts for normal daily running too. They’ve got an incredibly bouncy ride and a nice rockered feel through the footstrike which makes them so much fun to run in. I thought they would be slow due to their heavy weight, but I recently did a half marathon at close to PR pace without even trying. The weight seems to disappear for me on long steady runs and I’m not a heavy runner at 68kg. The biggest downside for me with these shoes is the high price (even more expensive than the Superblasts here in Australia), but luckily I got them at a discount and I don’t mind paying more for something that will make me happy every time I lace them up.
Did my 1st ever marathon (+self supported) in the glycerin max with heel pain and back pain that i carried from the training even though i rested plenty. 43 km continuous running without a millisecond of stop. That shoe made it happen, i am confident that it saved me from injury. And it was out of the box. I ran 4 km in it two days before the marathon. The shoe runs hot get a thinner sock with it.
Hi, just a thanks for the content and training packs. I bought the 1:45 HM one and managed to get every session done. Ended up with 1:38:26. Very pleased thanks.
I love max stack/cushion shoes and have the SB2, MagMax Nitro, Glycerin Max, More v5, and Skyward X. I also have the Neo Vista and Mach X 2 which I would group with the SB2 as lighter, faster, and more versatile variety of max cushion shoes compared to the rest which are heavier and geared more towards easy/daily/recovery types of running. They are all very good or even great in their own ways. They each have their own unique feel and ride. The SB2 is by far the best all-rounder; no need to say more. The MagMax feels a bit firm, is propulsive, and can definitely pick up the pace. The More v5 is best for easy plodding recovery types of runs. It's so plush although it does have a little more bounce to it compared to the v4. The Glycerin Max sits somewhere in between the MagMax and More v5 and is probably the best "easy all-rounder". Haha. The Skyward X kind of sits in its own category. It looks like an easy/recovery type of shoe but is quite peppy due to the carbon plate and feels and rides more like a lighter and responsive daily trainer that would also be good for tempo runs. It surprised me because I thought it'd be a plush easy run shoe in the vein of More v5 but it's very bouncy with a firm snap to it that makes you want to pick up the pace. Very interesting shoe with an unexpected character which I've come to like a lot. Haven't tried the Nimbus 26 although I had the Nimbus 25 that I thought was okay but didn't really like. Curious what the GlideRide Max is like as I enjoyed the GlideRide 3 even though I thought the ride was kind of boring. Well, I feel like I'm maxed out with the max stack/cushion shoes now for the next year or so. All the brands are putting out really good running shoes now and it's good to see that they all have their own unique take on what each type of shoe should be like. It really is the best time to be a runner.
Great video thanks Ben 😊👌 abit off topic but will you be expanding your clothing range to include your own Shorts? and while your at it what about some socks!
I did have the superblast 2 but sadly they were nit true to size, for short distances up to 6k they felt fine but when i tried 16k i ended up with blue toe nails, luckily for me i got a full refund even though i had put 88k’s on them. I will certainly pick up a pair half a size up when they become available again.
@camonly849 Hurricane 24 feels softer. The Superblast 2 will soften up as it breaks in. The Hurricane 24 softens during the run at around 8-10K, but firms uo again after a few hours. The Hurricane when it's firm and a broken in Superblast 2 are pretty close, but the Superblast is still firmer
@@thenoiseph awesome thanks! Looking at the new balance more v5 as everyone is saying that is one of the softest shoes, plus I like how it has a lower drop.
I will replace my very used Invincible 3 with the MagMax Nitro ! I want a fantastic grip to pair with my Velocity Nitro 3, my best daily trainer and preferred shoes to run in raining days.
@cosmocentric3 the grip and then the stability of the middle foot to the forefoot. My fastest 5km run of the year I could beat my previous record ( with a Magic Speed 3) by 15 seconds ! And the ground was wet after some rain during the previous night. So you see, if you have the grip , enough stability and comfort it can beat a lighter running shoes that is not as stable, comfortable at high speeds and have a bit less grip. A fantastic grip gives me confidant in my self to go run faster ... The downside of the Velocity Nitro 3 is the eva in the heel that is not soft ( but gives great stability) ,so if you use the shoes to run slowly and heel strikes it will not be that comfortable. Have a great day.
@@MiracleWarriors Thanks for that info. I have the Fade colorway on the way for the VN3. I loved the VN2’s for easy miles (not recovery) and the DVN2’s for faster efforts. The grip on both were AMAZING. While the VN2 had a traditional ride/feel, something about them still felt plush. Hoping the same for the VN3.
Another great vid thanks. If I were to choose a pair of shoes just for recovery and easy easy miles, I'd choose Saucony Hurricane 24 or Asics Glide-ride Max. I know they are both stability shoes but that is the whole idea. You want something to take care of your legs and make running easier. Those two I mentioned are not 100% stability so neutral runners like me can enjoy running in them also. For max something cushion that can do a bit of everything as an all around daily, the Superblast followed by Puma Magmax. Hoka Skyward X is a bit overpriced. The rest I would choose for walking standing long hours at work because of the squish under your feet and comfort.
Another great review. Just wondering if you could add to the spec table if the shoes are race legal. You mentioned that the Superblast 2 could be used for races but with a stack height of 45 mm presumably they are illegal according to the rules and hence technically a runner could be disqualified.
I visited a huge shoestore where I was able to try the new balance more 5, the asics nimbus 26 and the new Brooks glycerin max. I instantly fell in love with the Brooks. Hello Ben, thanks for your informative video! I'm considering getting a More V5 recently, and would like to know how the outsole wears out after some mileage since I'm a heavier runner, thank you😊
Really curious to know your footlength in cm! That way it gives a better idea with the sizing of these shoes. I know theres width and foot volume that come into play as well but footlength gives best indicator of how these shoes fit! And how mucn space in the toebox is also a matter of personal preference. But I have noticed that some Shoetubers advise a much longer space in the toebox than less experienced runners would think is suitable! I think Matt B goes for really oversized shoes. But then maybe taller runners prefer more space in toebox? Longer legs = more force generated by natural fulcrum of leg? Interested to know your thoughts on this as well?!
I appreciate all your reviews. I recently bought the Nike Vaporfly 3 in a men's size 8.5. I didn't expect it to be much larger than my Pegasus 41 in the same size. I've run around 50 miles with it so far. It's comfortable and significantly improves my speed, but I find it too narrow for my foot. I wasn't expecting any pain on the side of my foot during long runs, which I hadn’t experienced with my Pegasus 41. I'm considering getting another pair, possibly the Brooks or Adidas Boston 12. Should I stick with size 8.5, or should I try a different size?
Love this comparison and own 5 from your selection but I think people are often misled or it is often misunderstood that super soft shoes like the more V5 will look after and protect your legs! For some maybe this is the case but for others it can be harmful to knees, hips etc to run in super soft deep sinking shoes. R there is soft and then tooo soft.
Hi Ben. I’m writing to you from Barcelona, Spain. I am aware that the comments section is not a consulting room, but…😅😅😅😊😊😊 I’m looking at running shoes for the Barcelona Marathon next March. Since I started running I’ve basically used 2 brands: Nike at the beginning and in recent years Adidas with the Solar Glide model. Years ago I tried some Nimbus (when I started trying half marathon) and a pair of NB 1080s that must have been faulty as they started to rub around the 4km mark… I’m 1’80m tall, now I weigh 76-78 kilograms, I use insoles, … I don’t know what else I could tell you that would help or advise me on some shoes, and they’re not too expensive 😅😇 The marathon pace would be around 6’/km (a priori although this will be established more and better later on 😋). Thank you very much in advance.
Great Video, but I kind of feel that the Superblast is in a different category to all the rest and should be up against the Balos, Mach X2, Puma Deviate Nitro 3 and the Neo Vista. If you removed the Superblast what would your pick be?
I never understand when people list a CON of a running shoe being poor ventilation / thick upper which leads to overheating. Ive never noticed or been overly bothered about warm feet when running!
I've been using the Nimbus since version 21, so even before the stack-height was increased drastically, and I really love them. I use them as daily trainer for most my recovery, easy and long runs. I still have quite some other shoes in rotation (Novablast, Superblast (1 and 2), Metaspeed, Hoka Rincons and some more non-Asics), but majority of my running time is spent in the Nimbus. Asics really has to mess new iterations up to get me away from using them. (Which of course I hope won't happen!)
I’ve just started watching your videos for shoe reviews and can’t ignore the fact that your accent reminds me of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Say “one” to confirm. I’ve been watching too much of the Crown. 😅
You are an expert, I have all 6... I just don't understand why Nimbus is above the MagMax, the Nimbus is boring.... I love you famous, because of you I bought all 6, Nimbus was unnecessary hahaha 😅
I just ran a 2:59 marathon. I want to get faster. I am thinking if getting one of your plans but I seem to fall in between the L4 and L5 plan. Which do you recommend. In my last training block I was averaging 90K a week peaking at 105K.
I really don't get the Superblast 2 love at the moment. It's just way too firm, so for me, it shouldn't be considered max 'cushion'. Max-stack firm/responsive yes. But cushion brings to mind something that is easy on the legs/joints. But it gives me aches due to the firmness. I'm only 25-30km in though, so hoping that it gets better as it breaks in.
Still on the lookout for the replacements for my much missed Nike Invincible 2's. Have my fingers crossed for the 4's. Is there any current shoe that has the Invincble 1/2 feeling?
good luck finding a discount, I bought v1 at sticker price when it came out and kept looking for a discount to get another one, never saw any worth mentioning, even when v2 came out (which I then got). But they are so durable that they are well worth the price.
I got my Superblast 2 for about 23% off. Asics Philippines was running a promotion to sign up for One Asics, offering a 10% discount. On top of that, One Asics members get a 15% voucher during their birthday month. I probably wouldn't have gotten it at full retail, but at 23% off (the 2nd discount applied to the already discounted price), it was too good to pass up
I don't think you'll ever get one at a discount. People are upselling the shoes like crazy on eBay and even pre-orders for the shoe sell out in a few days. I pre-ordered the next color drop and some sizes are already sold out lol.
You can def get it for a 15-20% discount on SportsShoes in the UK - they do random restocks so would keep an eye out. You can also get 10% discount on birthday month if you get a OneAsics membership. It’s honestly not has hard to get as people say as long as you keep on top of release dates and regularly check restocks.
Brother help me, im torn between endorphon pro 4 vs cielo x1? Which one should i get? I run in very hilly area and will do my first marathon next month. Im not a fast runner
Can someone please suggest a non carbon plated shoe that will be great for a marathon race. I can't afford a carbon plated shoe. I am open to all brands! Comfort is key
I don't like max cushion, it destroys my hips. I think max cushion is the most overhyped thing in running shoes. You need daily shoes and a speed shoe/racing shoe.

I've got the Glycerin 20; I really like it for my long runs. I might upgrade to the Glycerin Max once I retire the 20s. I appreciate the review!
Glycerin 21 is already a great upgrade, I'm telling you.
@@Guzman8Vlc It has 3mm more to its midsole, right?
thank you ben
Buying new trainers is like waiting for my mortgage renewal quite scary prices and can’t understand why
The superblast 2 is just so good to my legs, I hardly wear my supercomp trainer 2s now…
Hi Ben. I’m writing to you from Barcelona, Spain.
I am aware that the comments section is not a consulting room, but…😅😅😅😊😊😊
I’m looking at running shoes for the Barcelona Marathon next March.
Since I started running I’ve basically used 2 brands:
Nike at the beginning and in recent years Adidas with the Solar Glide model.
Years ago I tried some Nimbus (when I started trying half marathon) and a pair of NB 1080s that must have been faulty as they started to rub around the 4km mark…
I’m 1’80m tall, now I weigh 76-78 kilograms, I use insoles, … I don’t know what else I could tell you that would help or advise me on some shoes, and they’re not too expensive 😅😇
The marathon pace would be around 6’/km (a priori although this will be established more and better later on 😋).
Thank you very much in advance.
Gel Nimbus 26 are on sale in the US for $120 right now. about to cop 2.
Man I love max stack max cushion running shoes. Anyone who doesn't like them is mad, mad I tell you!
Another great video, thank you!
Genuine question though, what is the benefit of Max Cushion shoes like Puma if the sole is on the firm side?
Agree
In my last training block I was averaging 90K a week peaking at 105K.
wait u pull ur shoe laces very tight before tieing? u don't lose blood flow in the feet after 10km??
Nimbus will be my next shoe and now they have glideride max that’s 3 from ASICS alone…
Please try on cloud eclipse☺️
How would the Saucony Triumph match up against these shoes? It seems like it could have been included in this review.
Are the superblast 2s worth picking up if I already have the hoka cielo x1?
thank you for a great video
I really don't get the Superblast 2 love at the moment. It's just way too firm, so for me, it shouldn't be considered max 'cushion'. Max-stack firm/responsive yes. But cushion brings to mind something that is easy on the legs/joints. But it gives me aches due to the firmness. I'm only 25-30km in though, so hoping that it gets better as it breaks in.
Everyone has different likes in shoes, and not everybody likes super soft and often mushy ride .... actually quite a lot of people prefer firm ride
My SB1 took a little breaking in. Keep it going. I didn't really notice until about 50 miles on mine.
What would you recommend as the best for a heavier beginner runner (90-95kg) with a slight pronation?
In find that The NB more v5 is more narrow around the big toe than the v4. The v4 i had standard fit en the v5 i went wide fit.
Still on the lookout for the replacements for my much missed Nike Invincible 2's. Have my fingers crossed for the 4's.
Is there any current shoe that has the Invincble 1/2 feeling?
Puma is cheap in Australia compared to the Glycerin max. 2
$280 vs $350.
Any thoughts on Altra? Big fan owing to my wide feet and curious to try the new FWD Via which seems to be getting good reviews
Why is the Superblast not a good recovery shoe? What would be a good choice?
It's not a bad choice if you had to pick one shoe, but it's a little more firm and not as cushiony.
The New Balance would be a much better option! The Superblast is quite firm and better suited for faster than recovery pace.
What is 'True to Size' means.? Extra space between? New runner here
Really want to try the Superblast 2, but can’t bring myself to buy one at full retail price. Maybe when I find one on discount
Discount on superblast 2 good luck people can barely get hold of them at full RRP let alone discount.
good luck finding a discount, I bought v1 at sticker price when it came out and kept looking for a discount to get another one, never saw any worth mentioning, even when v2 came out (which I then got).
It’s honestly not has hard to get as people say as long as you keep on top of release dates and regularly check restocks.
i got the nimbus 26 there pretty good, but you need to put 50k in the shoes before they come alive. ( there becoming softer )
Great video
what do you think about the adidas prime x2 strung?
Couldnt get on with the nimbus26 for anything over 10k foot slips around inside. SB2 is a perfect shoe and only £20 more expensive ..no 🧠er
Surprised there's no saucony on the list
Superblast vs glideride max? Same?
Which is the best for flat feet/ over protonation
To wore out the SB 2 already, wow
Brother help me, im torn between endorphon pro 4 vs cielo x1? Which one should i get? I run in very hilly area and will do my first marathon next month. Im not a fast runner
is the puma magmax as firm as the VN3?
Have you try adidas evo sl?
Not yet. I tried to buy it but didn't get lucky in their competition. Will hopefully buy it when it goes on sale soon!
These shoes are great for long dog walks on the road, but awful for running unless you’re a heavy runner and or slow 😮
Are you kidding me? These shoes are literally made for running 😂😂.
It looks like puma and brooks are made in the same factory
Saucony Triumph 22?
Searching for the highest cushion trail running shoe, is it the Hoka Stinson?
I wonder they dont make brown colour or mix with brown. Many are colourful.
How wide is asics nimbus 26 in standard width? Still narow?
What about the Adidas Prime X?
Air Monarch snubbed
Bought and returned the mag max since watching this video
It's too stacked. It literally gets in the way while running.
Can you use max cushion shoes if you heel strike?
Of course! :)
