Hey Gary, I currently have a 2004 Ls v6 and I just received the same part as you (eastern catalytic 30500-Bank 2). It's unfortunate that it is only after I got my cat that I see this video but since I don't have the money to buy a 950$ OEM cat, how can I replace the current flange that you say is too big and deep to fit properly on the car so it won't have any exhaust leaks? Will I need a rotating saw to cut out the current flange and where can I buy the proper flange ? Thanks in advance !
Dave, unfortunately during the video I broke my hydraulic jack and was so sickened by the whole thing after a mechanic said it didn't work I just had him replace it. The OEM replacement the first shop wanted $1200. The place I went to only charged me $900 to install plus the part. It was an OE part, so it probably didn't cost as much. I've heard several places won't install customer pipes cause they just didn't fit well. My opinion is there is several things on this car that just are just plain bad. The intake manifold covering the spark plugs and PCV, the catalytic converter design is flawed, and I think DCCV is a total waste...why would you really want that feature? It's not like you are in a bubble and can truly have two different temperatures. Putting the traction control next to the drink holders is stupid too. Mine broken and now I have a small rectangle hole there. Have you tried hooking it up yet?
Yes I know the LS can be a real pain in the A** but I really like the car so I live with it. I know a whole about the intake manifold positioning problems... I took it off by myself to change the plugs/coils on the passenger side. The Ls series, for people who are buying them now is really all about the maintenance that have been done to it previously (I was very fortunate to buy one that as been constantly maintenance and only had one proprietor). Iam not english therefore I make a couple of mistakes but to answer your question no I didn't hook it up yet (I have an appointment wednesday at the garage). I'd like to know if there's an alternative to fit my eastern catalytic properly on my LS( changing the flange, etc.) ? Thanks buddy!
I'm sure there is an alternative if you have the old one and can weld...but it could also have to do with the positioning of how the pipes go up to the exhaust manifold. I can tell that the person before me did a terrible job maintaining the car...or they took it to some hack mechanic that put junk parts on it. Is the exhaust leaking now? Did you install it already?
No my exhaust isnt leaking but what really confirmed my choice of buying a new cat is that almost no pressure was coming out from my driver side exhaust. No I have not installed it yet I have an appointment at a muffler shop wednesday. I hope he can find a way to installing my cat ok so there isn't any exhaust leaks (I hate going back and forth at at garage/muffler shop to repair newly installed parts). Oh and by the way thanks for the video of the LS HVAC self test... didn't even knew I could do that haha
Well that's good. Yes, the driver side exhaust is where my problem was too. When I took the cat off there was a tear in the screen. Don't forget to keep the old cats and turn them into the scrap yard. I got $80 for the pair. My part was probably just defective. You might be ok. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
Eric, it says it is a direct fit, however there has to be a good reason why it costs $10 less or $20 less than the Bosal and Eastern Catalytic. I'd go to the dealership and by the OEM part.
+Gary O (Gary's Garage) i had order the catyltic converter for the left driver side from (davico manufacturing). 2004 lincoln ls v6 and it fit rite in i juat had to use some wd-40 to get it in.
Be careful or those barking spiders whilst crawling around in there on your garage floor. Thought I may of heard one at 5:43. 😂
