The guy who offered 35 dollars is not any better than a criminal. That is makes me upset. How many people has that place ripped off. I APPRECIATE SOMEONE LIKE YOU. You take the time to teach people. It is sad to see a place that's un ethical
What I learned recently after receiving a $92 ticket for trespassing in a dumpster at a local plumbing company is that catalytic converter theft gives honest metal recycler’s a bad name. 15 converters were stolen one night and because of that the owner does not want anyone on his property and upgraded security. Sad because I typically acquired a lot of copper and brass this company was trashing.
I've been arrested for trespassing in a bin too (K9 Security justifys its high bill by pretending they helped security when they didn't), yet I still do it because I don't feel guilty when I'm making an honest $ from Cu. The owners are being jerks by blanket banning all scrappers in the name of security, making honest scrappers sneak around like thieves in the night, which is more dangerous. The thieves steal from us too; do they think we like them? We don't control them & by treating all scrappers bad, the thieves have the incentive to never change.
If they ban you guys from going on the property for whatever reasons, fair or unfair it's the right of the owner. Feeling entailed to anything that you didn't produce is wild. Adapt or die it's a shady game. 😢
Just noticed that you hit 50K, man. Congrats! I believe you’ll quickly hit the next following milestones. And it’s all well deserved for the heart and dedication you put into each and everyone of these videos.
Thanks my guy! Planning on speeding things up for sure, and it’s a pretty cool spot to be in too. Channel feels healthy and strong, I think I can work with this 👌👌
After watching this i was mind blown that cats were or could be so valuable, the cats that are missing in my neighborhood brought in over 1.3K in a single night!! Crazy!! The best part is....there's like another billion neighborhoods!!! Thank you for showing us another avenue of income!
Hello my friends thank you for your interesting content, I have a catalytic converter that was purchased for a 2007 Lexus GS300 but the car got wrecked and totaled before the converter could be installed so it's brand new never been used, I live in Cincinnati Ohio any suggestions where I could sell it
Great work! It´s funny or not that alot of people cant understand that money is just laying around. Perhaps just one simple question away. I went to the wrong farm some week ago. Asked for metal anyway since I was there. That farm had alot. Sold that and went to the correct house for 2 more loads. Keeping my eyes open for Cats! "Thank you" was all I spent on those places. The best is to see how happy they got to get the extra space. And ofcause to se me work. Every load was about 500kg.
That’s super decent!! I’ve found that a lot with scrap, many people don’t have the time or resources to do it themselves so the scrap metal is just a problem that needs to be solved
I have found that in general, the scrap yards that have "floating" prices on metals, especially non-ferrous metals, tend to pay fairer prices, and closer to market value, than the ones who have "set in stone" prices that seldom change...although, when prices take a drastic, sudden drop, they might be a little slower to drop their prices..SO...keep your eyes open on the market...
I'm about to scrap 4 cars, didn't even cross my mind to cut the converters off of them for the extra money. Probably worth the total steel price alone if I'm guessing, cheers. Sidenote: content production is still phenomenal even way back, editing wise and camera wise I can tell a lot of behind the scenes is done to make everything cohesive and as nice as possible. Great work, all this is an invaluable resource to the public.
Thank you so much friend! I’ve always tried to make the sort of videos that I would actually watch, so I do try keep them snappy and interesting. Wish you the best on the payoff of those cars! Not sure I’d bother taking out the engine/transmission/wiring etc but the cat is absolutely worth doing separate 👌👌
Literally did the exact same thing in the exact same city at the exact same shops yesterday. How funny to now come across this video. Recon is also my go to scrap yard.
It’s the precious metal content. A vehicle manufacturer is legally required to fit a converter which will meet emissions requirements for the expected life of the vehicle. Aftermarket parts manufacturers don’t face the same restrictions so an aftermarket cat is a universal fit part with far lower PGM content, usually just enough to pass a single emissions inspection before failing a couple thousand km later
Missouri USA here , I'm not normally a scraper however I have several vehicles I been trying to sell as fixer uppers and My 2007 e250 ford Cargo Van has or looks like it containes 3 catalytic Converters ( Not Sure yet ) so do I need to have the title presented at the salvage yard to sell them or ??

I took three catalytic converters off of my roommates old car 1999 Honda 3.2 v6 passport, but I can’t find any markings or serial numbers. Inside the door where the vin number is it says that hear of Honda passports were put together in a Isuzu-Subaru factory. I’m almost positive they are the stock catalytic converters it came with. So does that mean they are the valuable Honda brand? Or does that mean they’re some Isuzu-Subaru cat converters? Without serial numbers or markings I can’t get an accurate price online. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Om namah shivayah, we bless your existence. I was feeling bummed about replacing my cat, even with cheaper options available until this video. Now I see how I can recover my costs and perhaps make a profit. thank you
Another great video as always! I actually took your suggestion a while ago and downloaded the ecocat app , like you said it provides an excellent “baseline” to know if your getting a fair quote from the local guys. Looking forward to the next vid.
Is that bad that I do know what cat that is just by looks? Me and my pal bought trailer and towrig and last year we just bought every nearby cheap car for scrap. Delete cat and sell car forward or scrap it. Scrapped over 50 cars and made like 9-10k€ with scrap catalysts. Cars also paid as scrap like 3-4k€
Why don't the scrap yards have these prices posted and updated daily? That would have to be easier than answering 1,000 phone calls a day. We have one near me that publishes estimate payouts of materials every few weeks, but that is it. I like this job because I don't have to talk on the phone all day.
I have quite a few vehicle's I've bought just for parts and now I'm selling vehicle's to the scrap yard. I never removed the catalytic converters. I'm removing unwanted vehicles now and I am cutting the cats off of them before selling the vehicle's now but I never sold any cats yet.
Most people do not realize that the online app possibly includes free shipping .. cats are NOT light so shipping is part of the price as well as convenience they send the money directly to pay pal or your bank account. you expend no fuel driving around comparing prices and there is not 9 local scrap yards reporting your license number to authorities for stealing convertors. Spent the last 4 months trying to get a quote on my 4 cats from my 2003 mustang GT I removed the H pipe with 4 cats way back when car was only 3 weeks old and less then 50 miles on it. I would like to get a ballpark figure before chopping it into lil pieces but no one has given me a price . I would rather sell the entire H - pipe even at a lower price to someone that needs 1 to pass emissions as it is essentially NEW
ffs....the government has cracked down. now, with my 2007 prius cat, they aren't offering crap or don't want to buy it. It was my car, people were stealing it, I made the call "no way will they steal it, I will cut it out myself and replace with an aftermarket. Then I sell it myself." I've sat on it for some time and I was like "time to sell it". Oh no. The scrap yards don't want to touch it, or they look at me like I stole it from myself. I don't know what to do. I am thinking of just turning the guts into dust and sitting on it for longer. The metals are of value still....I just don't know.
Don’t hollow it out, the raw material is worth a lot less when it’s not a complete unit because they can’t ensure specific recovery amounts. Someone wants it the way it is, it’ll just take time to find them!

Depends on your area, I think some states have started restricting who can sell them to scrapyards. The UK may be difficult too. I’m in Canada so that’s all I can really speak to but the only thing the law cares about is rightful ownership. So long as you didn’t steal it from him you can do whatever you like with it 👍

Yo jambi here. Big fan, Im a beginner at this and been lucky to score on a lot of good shit. Recently a laundromat/grocery market/store unit caught on fire and was targeted by tweekers and scrapers. It is secured during the day but taken advantage by night. I was curious to know who calls the ultimate dibbs when it comes to getting a hold of the scrap metals. Are you familiar with any source that exist that handles this or personally come across a scnerio like mine?
There’s two ways to interpret that question, and if you’re asking about what side of a gang fight you want to be on unfortunately I don’t have any advice to offer 😂 As far as the demolition though, I’ve never been through that. I’d assume it belongs to the insurance agent after they pay out for the claim though? Like when you crash your car right, you have to leave the rims and the stereo and everything on it when you go to collect your belongings.
Hey Thub im in the great old US OF A , And this is the first i have heard of/ watched a video of yours. Must say very captivating man real great stuff! I recently started acquiring cats. All legal methods I should mention I think and so thats how I stumbled upon your channel which i immediately liked and subscribed too! Btw I was joking about the great old thing in my first sentence, ya matter of fact place is turning into quite the shit show . Ya real fast too its awesome 😢 anyways good talk and cant wait to watch more !!
Cool! Glad you found me, I’ve been trying to learn everything I can about scrap and cats in general. I was fortunate to collab with a great cat buying company and made a whole in-depth series with them, I really learned a lot! It’s a great business, lots of people have done really well with it. The recent rhodium correction aside, I don’t see any way the PGMs can go but up
I really enjoy watching your videos i just wish that there was more of them and longer but i still wait to see it as soon as i get notices thank you for what you are doing
I dont believe that app lol, it told me my cat is worth 244$, i putt it up on facebook, the lowest offer i got was 400 then went all the way to 950 for my bmws cat lol
i found when scrapping that to go out of your way for a better price you end wasting that extra money on gas,so you really don't come out ahead. down here on the east coast [usa] a lot of yards are only taking cat's from shops, cat who are known buyers of cat's and mechanic's any one else get's turned away or get's to have a chat with johnny law.
That’s probably a good thing overall! And I agree, it needs to be a fair bit of weight to justify the extra time and gas. Most times you’re better off making one stop.
@@thubprint i got a friend that will take he's steel scrap all the way to newark nj in his chevy pick up thats got a big block motor just to get a an extra .10 cent a pound,we live in paterson nj a 40 plus minute drive [with good traffic one way and still think's he's making out.
I buy and sell junk cars, and converters in my area. The facebookers is pretty much the same as me. We buy an sell to a facility that deconstructs and processes the precious metals. Im in the (US). I can average $13,000 for 100 converters depending on the types.
Thanks alot man! Really good video. what catalytic converter buyers do with them? Do they just sell cats as well to the recycling company for more money?
Always glad to see your post.....espscially on Friday 13th....Metals took a real hit in the market last week...platinum was down to $975.00US per oz...I wonder how that affects converter prices...
I’ve been watching your videos for a very long time you put out great content that’s very valuable. I like that you put your heart and soul into it. Keep up the great work 👍 I hope your channel gets way bigger. I always like all your videos that I watch as well. I personally love scrapping and dumpster diving myself and your videos always drop knowledge bombs. I’ve been subscribed to you since the first video of yours I’ve ever watched. Your an absolute delight and bring a lot of really positive energy to your channel and it’s going to do wonders for you in the future. With your level of passion soon you’ll be making way more money YouTubing than your scrapping. I can’t wait till that happens because you definitely deserve the success.
P.S. I think it’d be really funny/awesome in the future if you become so successful with your channel and scrapping endeavors that eventually one day you can own your own scrap yard so that all these precious metals wind up coming to you 👍
Thank you so much!!! Big or small, I really love doing this (making videos to share) so I’m glad I’m able to put my heart into it, and extra glad it shows 😊 I would love to spend even more time on each video but I have to balance things or id never get any published haha. I appreciate your support so much, looking forward to seeing how far we can go! Having a scrapyard of my own some day would be pretty cool 😎
That’s empire, yes. They’re one of my two favourites, they usually have the best prices in town for nonferrous and are pretty generous with the grading too. They offered me 0.15c/lb on my stainless cylinders though, I guess they didn’t really want them. So generally I think of them pretty highly, but not so highly that I’m unloading everything there without asking any questions.

It's simple supply vs demand.

Another top notch vid!!
Tysm ☺️
Great Value
Yo jambi here. Big fan, Im a beginner at this and been lucky to score on a lot of good shit. Recently a laundromat/grocery market/store unit caught on fire and was targeted by tweekers and scrapers. It is secured during the day but taken advantage by night. I was curious to know who calls the ultimate dibbs when it comes to getting a hold of the scrap metals. Are you familiar with any source that exist that handles this or personally come across a scnerio like mine?
There’s two ways to interpret that question, and if you’re asking about what side of a gang fight you want to be on unfortunately I don’t have any advice to offer 😂
As far as the demolition though, I’ve never been through that. I’d assume it belongs to the insurance agent after they pay out for the claim though? Like when you crash your car right, you have to leave the rims and the stereo and everything on it when you go to collect your belongings.
Great Vid.....Keep'em coming....... Thank You
Hey Thub im in the great old US OF A , And this is the first i have heard of/ watched a video of yours.
The recent rhodium correction aside, I don’t see any way the PGMs can go but up
I like all the scrap content but when are you gonna do some bottle picking and dumpster diving? I miss those.
Next week!
I really enjoy watching your videos i just wish that there was more of them and longer but i still wait to see it as soon as i get notices thank you for what you are doing
I’ll be doing more soon!
Love it bro
Thanks bro!
@@thubprint your Welcome
I dont believe that app lol, it told me my cat is worth 244$, i putt it up on facebook, the lowest offer i got was 400 then went all the way to 950 for my bmws cat lol
Oh nice! Well I’ve heard plenty of stories about their prices being off sometimes, it seems they aren’t always the best resource
Oh shit! You hit 50k!
Whoa… for real though, we did… nice!!!
i found when scrapping that to go out of your way for a better price you end wasting that extra money on gas,so you really don't come out ahead. down here on the east coast [usa] a lot of yards are only taking cat's from shops, cat who are known buyers of cat's and mechanic's any one else get's turned away or get's to have a chat with johnny law.
My Siri activates on 4:36 😄
Dude you're so awesome
I buy and sell junk cars, and converters in my area. The facebookers is pretty much the same as me. We buy an sell to a facility that deconstructs and processes the precious metals. Im in the (US). I can average $13,000 for 100 converters depending on the types.
That ( 13k )in the U.S. is VERY weak for 100 units at a time.
@@gregk.6723 Just depends on what they are. $13,000 is the minimum if majority is low grade converters. Prices vary
@@williamwiseheart3323 We/I are talking average.
@@williamwiseheart3323if there’s a honeycomb there. Is no low grade u simply found a lot of fools
Great video very helpful
Thanks alot man! Really good video. what catalytic converter buyers do with them? Do they just sell cats as well to the recycling company for more money?
I guess it depends where they are in the supply chain but ultimately they all go to refiners who extract the precious metals
Always glad to see your post.....espscially on Friday 13th....Metals took a real hit in the market last week...platinum was down to $975.00US per oz...I wonder how that affects converter prices...
Oh I bet it affects them a fair bit! Not all of them have rhodium content from what I understand, but I’m pretty sure they all have platinum
Rhodium is what you need to follow.
Were they buying it strictly for scrap value for the precious metal, or to resell as a usable catalytic converter?
Ya they end up getting broken down and the metals are extracted
I wish you'd go around & find someone to buy silver contacts because I have a big jar of them.
Big or small, I really love doing this (making videos to share) so I’m glad I’m able to put my heart into it, and extra glad it shows 😊
I would love to spend even more time on each video but I have to balance things or id never get any published haha. I appreciate your support so much, looking forward to seeing how far we can go! Having a scrapyard of my own some day would be pretty cool 😎
Oh my goodness i know a place in Africa that these sell very cheap ,i need more information
That's a nice converter tho most not that good unless u get all 3 or 4 off
So that first place you went to, was that empire? If so whats your opinion on them. I feel like they under pay a lot so far
@@thubprint that's fair. Same idea for me. The Asian guy is usually nice to talk to and helpful for sorting.
When you started singing a whole new world I died laughing 😂 I randomly sing old Disney songs all the time
