I didn't see it mentioned in the comments, so I figured I would point it out.
Ir Yut doesn't actually begin her song until you attack or are hit by the two first yellow knights you encounter when starting the event. If you avoid them and don't fire on them, you can take your time.
Good stuff Datto, much higher production value than some of the other guides I've seen so far too.
Remember when you needed to have all these roles for the Crota fight?

I did the raid for the first time yesterday and I was with a group who had tons of experience and we demolished Crota so quickly!

Thank you for the Crota's end tutorial it really helped me understand what to do but there's only one issue. I can't find anyone who's good at communicating... I was wondering/hoping if you could play the raid with me just like once to actually finish the raid. Well if you have PS3. Thank you again for the video I appreciate it.
My team used to try and kill the ogres from the bridge but would often have a person go down so we changed it up and now use the tunnel method for killing ogres and it works like a charm! So much smoother and safer.
We do that as well, it's a great tactic ;)
******At Crota, 2 bridges lead to the middle platform where Crota spawns in at. Those bridges.

Looks like having a Defender drop a bubble with Blessing of Light, assuming it's available, in the room at the start to provide a little bit extra cushion when nobody has health regen would be helpful.

Have anyone else seen the gatekeeper in the room above where you spawn? I bet there is something worth getting up there in some way. When the fight begins he walks out on the balcony overlooking crota. Tried to jump up there before we started the fight but there was invicible walls there then.
+Nolan Lucas, there will be 2 difficulties for this raid. The Hard mode wont be available until early next year. Enough time to allow players to reach lvl31/32 and practice.
Please Upload a crota sequence that includes team chat , to familiarize everyone with what's specifically being communicated among the team at the different phases of this boss fight.
Also what weapons are being used here to bring down his shield would be very helpful, being that most believe that you have to have g-horns and ice breakers or you can't do it. did you guys even use rockets?

Datto, could you possible do a balanced weapon guide for this boss also? Such as the best weapons in the game and then a medium tier that are not too weak? I hope you know what i am trying to say by this. I have had teams that cannot do enough damage on the shield when we have good timing even though we are using capped Visions/Fatebringers/Vex's as well as Icebreakers and maybe a few rockets. I know the Gjallahorn can smash his shield but it is rare and hard to come by for some people.

We do it from mid and when the ogres spawn the snipers jump on top of the doorways at the crystal; the ogres come immediately to mid to fire beams at the safe snipers upstairs.
Id say 4 slams are better though. But if you time it that well, is there a better combo to use?
The bladedancer is the best class for the sword. If you go invincible you can do the rt slam 4 times and then right after that 3 or 4 times and that should take crota's healt down to 50% with only 1 sword ^_^
I find this part really hard. If you don't have a Vex Mythoclast or a G-horn, it'll be very difficult to kill the Deathsinger in time
I had no idea there was a post game rewards screen after killing Crota...
For some reason I never got the Ir Yut Grimoire card after doing the raid. Do you need the kill shot on her to get it? or did my thing just glitch. or do you need to do hard mode.
Does anyone know if the sword is affected by Weapon's of Light from a Titan bubble?
somehow we pulled this off on the first try with a group of randoms....we actually got screwed up on the 4th sword and ended up not getting the final blow in....but we went through another set of ogres, saw the "enrage is near", but were able to kill him on the first damage run. we used this same strategy, except after the ogres we found that if you go in the room under the boomers until Crota goes back to the middle, it makes killing the swordbearer a little bit quicker and you can get back up to that left side much more quickly. check it out....worked great!

Sorry, Datto, but the middle pit strategy is way more efficient and safe.
If you don't attack the Knights in the Ir Yut section, the song only starts after you hit the Shrieker. You guys go to the spot where Crota spawns, 2 people go bait the Hive Wizard out. When they reach outside they get bombarded with Sniper Rifles and there... passed the first part with no problems. Second part? The Knights inside with the insane melee? Inside the room where Ir Yut is, there's some doors and you can stand on top of them. There, have fun.
Also the Red Death makes the "Presence of Crota" laughable. One kill will heal you to full health every 10 seconds. There's so many Thralls there... ouch.

Harabec Maybe in the future, Bungie might release a patch, removing all healing upgrades and abilities during the fight with Crota. Hopefully not :/

I got to the halfway point of the death singer alone. But it took me three hours
I just got into the vog raid a week before the expansion so this weel i was going to do it to try and get vision of confluence, but it only goes up to 300 attack 'sigh'
i hate that stuff you got from the first raid just became kinda useless. The gear is worthless now, most weapons are still viable though, VoC should still be good for the new content
Actually the VoC is one of the most useful primaries in this new raid
***** 2 of the best weapons going, preX raid weapons are superior to current vendor weapons, even Shadow Price kills the AR's available in the tower.
For those having trouble with The Deathsinger, its possible to make it so a team has much more time to kill her, a Bladedancer Hunter is probably best for this, but since I'm a Warlock, I use Patience and Time for the invisibility effects. The Deathsinger seems to only start the countdown when you are noticed by an Acolyte, though I'm not sure. A team can use this to their advantage, by having one person go out, and stealthily kill both Wizards, without the 2:30 minute countdown starting, this gives the team much more time to kill both Shriekers and The Deathsinger herself. Just to note, once both Wizards are killed, the shriekers are actually immune to damage, until The Deathsinger starts her countdown, so once they are both dead, a team should go out and alert enemies of their presence, so they can damage the Shriekers.
The way we do it is we just have everyone in the team run up to where crota spawns without getting hit by any enemies on the lower floor (fairly easy). We then have one person go and lure out the wizards then we all kill them with sniper rifles. We usually have enough time to clear the left room of enemies before the death singer finally begins her song if we did everything right. After the song starts we kill the shriekers and use titan bubbles and our highest DPS and we can get her down quickly with skillful shots and a bit of luck!
It'd be nice if there was a loot drop though...

I actually think that thrall as the plural is correct... but nobody says it that way.
Even if it is not grammatically correct, the game itself references a group of Thrall as "Thrall", rather than "Thralls". So, I prefer to use Thrall as their plural.

Considering the extremely generous amounts of raid gear handed out from everything up to the final boss fight on top of how Bungie apparently can't design a functional raid without glitches, everybody who owns the DLC is walking around with 2-4 pieces of raid gear even if they haven't glitched that mess called a raid. I'm sure Luke smith will be messing up the raid with things that get broken and don't work at all after the next update, since they broke the VOG and left it broken for close to an entire month.
will you ever do a raid with your subscribers? That would be realy nice since i have not got a team of any sort to help me even enter the vault of glass. Please it sems realy fun and i cant do it :(

I've done Vault of Glass a bunch with viewers and subscribers, it's just tough trying to do it on a regular basis. If I spend all my time streaming, then I have no time to make videos. If I do both, then I'm never giving myself any down time to just take a breather or play the game for fun, which I don't want to have happen. Contrary to popular belief (not saying anyone here in this thread has said anything), a lot of my time is spent reviewing ideas, writing scripts, and editing, it is not all just playing the game like so many people like to think it is. I'd like to move into a more hybrid setup, where I alternate videos and streaming, but right now, UA-cam pays the bills, so that's where I choose to invest my time into more heavily.

Also, if you time it perfectly you can get a slash slash slam slash slash slam slam in. This is because you can hit Crota before he kneels, the second his shield goes away.

last friday, me and 5 people all levels 30's started the raid. we got to ir yut in about 45 minutes. after 3 hours of trying we just could not kill her. My problem with the fight is how much bullshit you have to deal with in such a short amount of time. After looking at nearly 4 guide videos we all concluded that unless you had a gjallarhorn or the cure, it just wasent possible. gjallarhorn is the literly pushing the easy button in this game once you get it. I've seen aetheon explode in 2 rounds with it, i've seen people solo nearly every nightfall with it, and i've seen this raid done in an hour with it. The weapon just makes the game too easy and since its a random drop and i havent got an exotic drop since they patched the loot cave, i now have to look for people with the weapon and prioritize them over other people. "level 30 max gear, looking to do raid" ok awesome i'll just... "level 29, but have maxed gjallarhorn." welp, that guy wins, sorry mister 30, blame the RNG gods.
if you want to get gjallarhorn, you can get an exotic gun from the 3rd chest in the VoG, after beating atheon or the new vanguard roc strike playlist. I got the last word and a friend got Monte Carlo from the 3rd chest and i got universal remote from vanguard roc, and saw another guy get the mida multitool from it. If you want gjallarhorn, just keep playing the raid and vanguard roc, and be patient. You might get it
I've got a maxed 300 damage Gjallarhorn, and I can say you're over-exaggerating. I've unloaded all 7 shots into Atheon, and it does a decent amount of damage, but not nearly enough to kill him. Maybe if every single person in the raid had it maxed out, you could kill him in two shots each. I've also soloed Nightfalls (not post-update, though) and Gjallarhorn has not been the weapon that made it easy. It's a great weapon, and it does massive damage, but it just isn't nearly as good as you make it out to be. Even with Gjallarhorn, Ir Yut was so difficult! There are just way too many Knights that can two-shot you.

What you need to know about the enrage: avoid it.
Enrage is just timed or comes up from too many mistakes.
Just don't make mistakes or take too much time wasting it on slip ups.
Enrage: Oversouls constantley and ogres constantley. Impossible to beat with
If you don't shoot the 2 knight at the entrance she wont sing her song and you will get more time.

Great guide. However, I disagree that Titans or hunter should have the sword. Firstly, I'm sick of people saying Warlock has worst jump and Titan has the best. This is ludicrous as Titans and Warlocks have similar jumps. Hunters do, have the best jump, imo however. I have played all 3 classes, and Warlock jump actually gets you a tad farther. It's all about knowing how to maximize your jump. Personally, I'm a Warlock, and I beat Crota 7 times as of this comment (all of which wielding the sword), and have never had a problem jumping. The sword should go to a person good and competent with the sword (unless you're trying to allow everyone to learn how to use it), not a certain class. I'd rather a good Warlock wield the sword than and mediocre Titan any day of the week. Likewise, I'd rather have a great Hunter over a good Warlock wielding the sword. Just my 2 cents :P. Not trying to come off as a dick, just my opinion.
Hunter should definitely have priority. The stealth lets you pretty much negate any possibility of losing time on the boss with the sword due to having to wait to run to him. You can stealth and run up to him with no chance of him trying to attack you as he goes down.
I will agree that in regards to the jump, it doesn't really matter. Titans are better vertically, and Warlocks are better for clearing distance, but neither is really a big game changer. Positioning can be a factor with the jump though. If you're a titan you can make a jump from bottom much easier but if you happen to be on the bridge or something and just need to get close faster, the speed boosted glide is nice.

I like my Warlock the best also! Especially Sunslinger. And the self resurrection is priceless! It saves me all the time! LoL

Have the servers for xbox been absolute crap for anyone else this past week and a half? My group got to Crota last night, but the lag was keeping us from being able to kill anything. Once we finally stabilized and had a good rotation of damage, we all got booted to orbit. lol Oh well. :(
