When this was uploaded in 2006 (when UA-cam was young!), I was still in high school and living north of the arctic circle. My experience with playing music had, until then, been quite limited (because of my own lack of motivation, as well as my rather stupid ideas about how music was only for people who were already good at it), but when I found this video, I realised that the harp was it for me. I was lucky enough to find a teacher and get my hands on a harp when I went away to college, and now, so many years later, I have finally mustered the courage to try and learn this exquisite piece. I just wanted to share how much joy it brings me to finally be able to do that, and how grateful I am that you decided to upload this video all those years ago. It truly changed the trajectory of my life. Thank you
Funny you say that, because all those years ago, it was her who interested me in the harp and I was also in high school. I never forgot about it, nor did i her. And just recently, about 15 years later, I bought a lyre harp and my mind was brought back to these videos. So amazing how much someone can inspire others. you really have a beautiful and rich story that proves this. much love my friend
I just want to say that this video deserves more likes. I have been listening to this since I was in HS in 2007 till now that I have a child. I so love this piece. It's still my goal to play it once I get a harp. Love, from a fan.
Just unbelievable...thank you for this composition...not sooo many great compositions for Celtic/Lever harp around Please continue to compose for us!!! :-) Mary Schmidt (Germany)
Thanks, Sarah was prizewinner at the Royal Academy of Music in London, now spends most of her time on Celtic Harp, so 'more than 20yrs' is the diplomatic answer! Phil
Sarah you play beautifully full of confidence and such control over the instrument. I puck my little lyre harp but would like to advance to a Celtic harp. If ever I to have a teacher you would be the most desirable to have. Bravo
Thanks for your kind comments, I'm getting a lot of mileage out of calling Sarah the 'Harp Goddess'!! Yes, its a nice piece, and theres a lot more where that came from. Her CD 'Soirbheas' pronounced 'Surra-Vis' that means Fair Wind in Gallic is CD of the year on Classic FM here in UK. - Thanks again, we're plotting a better video-quality version. Phil Williams (husband)
Yes, sorry about the crummy picture, it was an old analogue camera and a USB converter. Sound quality came out ok fortunately. Thanks for your kind remarks!
Yes, sorry about the pic/sound quality, it was filmed on an old camera. You can hear the mechanism in the quieter bits. still, I'm glad you can ignore that, and enjoy the music!
The instrument is a Salvi Egan. There are Salvi outlets in London and Cardiff, there may well be one in Ireland too. The do a good cover for it too, it has wheels built in!
Wow thats pretty good..and I`ve seen lots and lots of great players. Real strength and musicality, rhythm and a good piece to boot. That Russian did darn good job, da. :-)
Its got 38 Strings and the bottom one is 'A'. This piece uses just about all of them! The harp is a Salvi Egan and every string has an electric pick-up. Although this, and CD recordings are always done with mics.
Each string has a lever at the top to change its note by a semi-tone, eg. C to C-sharp. You can see Sarah doing this several times. Concert Harps do this with foot pedals. Celtic Harps use levers.
I love this song! I play the harp as well, only not the celtic harp. I play the pedal harp, and I was wondering if this song could be played on a pedal harp. Maybe I'll just download the music and find out for myself!
This harp is a Salvi Egan with 38 strings, in my opinion one of the best lever harps available today, but I can also recommend the Dusty Strings 'Ravenna 34' and the Camac 'Stivell'.
Just stunning! Do you have sheet music for this?!?!? Also, what make of harp is that you are playing? It looks like a Tara style harp, but I can't tell the maker! Absolutely lovely! Thanks for sharing!
Will Ms Deere-Jones ever be publishing the sheet music for this? I know a lot of lever harp players who want more advanced classical compositions to play! :)
@phantombagpiper When I listen to her play, I feel like droplets of air rain upon my skin. Is there any way you can find a better quality version of this song?
where???? I havent been able to find one for over 3000 some. what kind of harp is that?? I have a little 26-string limeric lap harp with levers. and i am saving up for a bigger harp. what kind of harp do u suggest has the best sound quality??? thx so much! ~Michelle
Celtic / Folk they are the same, they are both 'lever' harps rather than a concert 'pedal' harp. Each string has a lever to raise its pitch by a semitone in order to get different keys.
Ok so lever harps don't look so bad. My problem would be memorizing the sound of the keys, among other things. I think I'll just study music all together.
wonderful , beautiful, georgeous!!
just perfect
makes me feel content
brings tears to my eyes i cant even explain how beautiful this is
Music is a mirror where souls are reflected. I bet you're a nice and lovely person. Thanks for sharing.
I'm playing this song for an upcoming recital! I'm very excited. Thanks so much for your BRILLIANT inspiration!

So good it deserves a re-recording.

I love this kind of harp playing. Fantastic!
Boy is she quick on a lever harp or what! One of the most heavenly sounds I've heard yet!

I just bought mine, I can't wait to start playing! :)
A gift from heaven - beautiful thanks.

This is so amazing to listen to, I adore your harp playing :)
A really wonderful tunning of the threads of the soul...
I can just imagine myself flying to this tune!
It's always a pleasure to re-learn this piece, even if some parts are sooo difficult >.
I had to pinch myself...I thought I died and was floating to heaven. great playing.
Absolutely beautiful! Wow..
INCREDIBLE, FABULOUS

A true artist indeed.

Harp music is very soothing

beautiful!
Strings are gut in the middle, nylon at the top and wire-wound in the bass. The tension is concert harp tension and that gives a bright sound.
Its tuned to C with B,E & A levers up. This allows access to both flat and sharp keys.
Thanks for your kind words.
Sarah
INCROYABLE !!! JE SUIS AU PARADIS !
Wow thats pretty good..and I`ve seen lots and lots of great players. Real strength and musicality, rhythm and a good piece to boot.
That Russian did darn good job, da.

Excellent!
Yes its a lever harp, Salvi Egan. Sarah is visiting Seattle & Vancouver in April and will be playing this piece.
Each string has a lever at the top to change its note by a semi-tone, eg. C to C-sharp.
You can see Sarah doing this several times.
Concert Harps do this with foot pedals. Celtic Harps use levers.
AMAZING
ah this is really good others bore me but this is captivating
Awesome!
great job!
I love this song! I play the harp as well, only not the celtic harp. I play the pedal harp, and I was wondering if this song could be played on a pedal harp. Maybe I'll just download the music and find out for myself!
qué melancolía, qué belleza :):

Thanks Mark, presume youve seen 'By a woodland stream' and 'Take 5' by Sarah on UA-cam too! - Phil
Will Ms Deere-Jones ever be publishing the sheet music for this? I know a lot of lever harp players who want more advanced classical compositions to play! :)
Great 👍 thanks 🙏
magnifique!🐨
Yes! She is a prize winner from the Royal Academy of Music in London. Tutor the Russian Maestro Renata Scheffel-Stein.
Wonderfull
@phantombagpiper When I listen to her play, I feel like droplets of air rain upon my skin. Is there any way you can find a better quality version of this song?
It's like a dream.
er, yes! If you put Deere-Jones into the UA-cam search theres more... Thanks!
Beautiful. Do you have sheet music? I would love a copy.
where???? I havent been able to find one for over 3000 some. what kind of harp is that?? I have a little 26-string limeric lap harp with levers. and i am saving up for a bigger harp. what kind of harp do u suggest has the best sound quality??? thx so much! ~Michelle
Sounds like metal strings? I don't know much about harps...but I do know about calouses, hah. Very beutiful, thanks for sharing =D
Celtic / Folk they are the same, they are both 'lever' harps rather than a concert 'pedal' harp. Each string has a lever to raise its pitch by a semitone in order to get different keys.
Hey that's cool.
I would like a copy - DVD of this - and a CD of your work in general.
Advise contact.
Is this song available on CD or digital download somewhere where I can buy it?
Cool BAg Of Rhythm - Right On - WorldwidewelcomE - VIKING
I really want to buy the sheet music but I'm worried my harp doesn't have the range for it. What's the highest and lowest note?
The range is C1 - A6 = 38 strings.
wowzuh! that's some technique.
Hey wait a minute, is that a lever harp she's using? I think I just noticed.
This harp has 38 strings. And you can play
multi-note chords and melody at the same time.
She deserves a better video promotion set-up.
i play on a camac korrigan 38 sring. you can uae any harp with 38 or more strings. it sounds different on a camac though
@andylowings - yes you are right, trouble is, trying to make a living keeps getting in the way! That was a crummy old camera. - Phil
@blazinglite1020 The trick is a HECK of a lot of practice =)
Oh the dualist that he was (is) lol
the celts will rise again.......................
wats a lever harp?
Portugal just has 2 harps :'(
read the description. :)
you need 38 strings. it uses all 38
Ok so lever harps don't look so bad. My problem would be memorizing the sound of the keys, among other things. I think I'll just study music all together.
One like this is 4000 uk pounds, but you can
get a good celtic harp for 1500.
if I ever accidentally turn into a man, let's get married.
It fits on a Salvi Egan, 38 string harp, we are away on tour just now but look up Salvi Egan, it uses all the strings!
