Get more water in a front-load HE (Energy Star) Washing Machine

Enhance your laundry experience with this guide to increasing the water level in an energy star or high efficiency front load washer like the LG 3400. Graying white laundry led me to the conclusion that a low water level was decreasing the effectiveness of this washer. I have had front-load washers for 20 years, but never before experienced this problem. I was ready to trash the washer, but decided to try this strategy as a last ditch attempt to get cleaner laundry. After one load with four towels, the washer seems to be working better. I will do a full load of laundry and then finalize the adjustment on the water lever with hopes of getting cleaner clothes. Please make any adjustments at your own risk. This may void your warranty and result in more water and energy use.

In the end, I settled on turning the adjustment 1.5 turns clockwise to raise the water level to the bottom of the door. This is resulting in clearner clothes from my perspective.
