After reading the comments about the hat being too small , I was reluctant to try it, but I'm so pleased I did because following the instructions and using a 6 mm hook because I don't have a larger one , it worked out beautifully . I would think the problem width sizing, and it being too small, is if it does not fit before you start the decreasing, it won't fit once you start the decreasing, I would just increase until it fits around your head, and then do your decreasing, you're probably only talking a few extra rows. . Just my thoughts, a beautiful , simple pattern. Thank you :-)
I just finished this hat and I am well pleased. I have locs that fall about 2 to 3 inches past my shoulders, so I added an additional 7 rows after Row 19, before the decrease rounds. Also, I used an I-9/ 5.5mm hook with 5 oz. of 4 Medium, Mainstays Sparkle Acrylic Yarn in black (Walmart). Thanks for the great directions, demonstration, and pattern🎉😊!
I just finished my second hat. My first one was small but perfect for my 7 yo grandson. I think my tension was to tight. The second hat turned out perfect for women/teen small. I used 6.5 mm crochet hook and paid close attention to my tension. Thank you for this video! ❤
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the pattern! This was quick and easy! I adjusted the pattern by adding 8 more rows before decreasing since I'm making it for my son who has long dreadlocks! It fit perfectly! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙
Your tutorial was amazing. I was brand new to crocheting, I taught myself all the basic stitches and your hat was the first project I tried. Thank you so much!!
Never ever have i watched a tutorial of any sort that is so detailed!! Nadia, you must be a teacher of some sort. You rock!! Keep them coming PLEASE!!!
I had an amazing 3 weight yarn that I wanted to use. I used a 5.5 hook and just added some increase rows and the rows in the middle to look about the same size as yours. Oh, I also made a mistake from the very beginning by using the back two loops instead of the front two. So, instead of tearing it all out I just continued that way. It really looks nice. Thank you for the video.
How many rows in the middle did you add ? I am using 4.5 hook Did you also go down to the increase of 5 or keep it at 6 or 7. Going down to 5 made it way small for an adult head
I used Red Heart Hopscotch in color Waterslide. I used a 7mm hook because I crochet fairly tight. I might should have stopped decreasing at row 24 because the brim is slightly tight. It still fits, it’s just a little more of a challenge to get all my hair (that’s down to my derrière) in there. I can’t wait to wear this shopping and maybe even to work when I don’t feel like braiding my hair. Thank you!
Love it!!! I went online and found the Red Heart Unforgettable yarns and ordered up 3 different skeins but since I couldn't wait to try out the pattern I grabbed a 3 weight Mandala cake and put it to use tonight. It worked up quick and easy and fit perfectly! This is my go to pattern from now on, just can't wait for my new 3 skeins to arrive!!! Thanks for be best slouchiest hat pattern ever!
I used RedHeart Unforgettable Waves, used a 7 mm hook for the different thickness of yarn and my tension, it worked up beautifully and fits perfectly, I did go down to 6.5 for the brim but took it out (looked to small) and used my 7. I love it now on to the next one. Thank you
Like many others was a little small in the end. I used Caron simply soft and crocheted loosely. I simply frogged a few rows of decreases and did four or five rows of hdc and then one row of single crochet followed by reverse single crochet at the end. Fits great with those modifications for me.
I just finished my first slouchy hat using Lions Brand Vanna's Choice yarn in purple print (blue/purple mix) using a J hook (6mm) as directed by the yarn label which is 100% acrylic #4 medium yarn. I used 1 skein all the way up to round 24 and then I had to use a 2nd skein for round 25 and then the ribbing/border rounds 26-29. So i'd say I used 1/4 of the 2nd skein to complete my hat. It fits me perfectly and I have a full head of thick very curly hair that is down to my shoulders. So I can't wait to find some nice yarn in great colors to make a few more for mysef and for my two daughters.... Thank you Nadia!!
I used RH Super Saver and a K hook and it came out perfect for my head. Not as big as yours but my tension is tighter. Thanks for this great pattern/tutorial.
Left hander here. Your tutorial is terrific. I have no problems doing this as a leftiebecause your teaching and camera work is wonderful! These are going to be beautiful Christmas gifts. Thank you so much.
I've made this hat last year with the same yarn you used just another color and it looked awesome and I gave it to a friend. I made it again tonight (for me) 11.15.17 using Noro Taiyo yarn color #1 and it's fabulous!! Very expensive to make as the yarn is $20 a ball and I used one ball and a 1/4 of another but man it's just gorgeous. I made a poncho out of this yarn also and I cannot wait for it to get cold enough to wear them together. Thanks for sharing
Brilliant tutorial, im on my 3rd slouch hat & love this pattern... I only have a 6mm hook so i added an extra row before the decrease then only decreased to 6 instead of 5 so the head size was right.
Thank you! I'm so impressed with you and myself. I followed along and made this slouchy hat for my husband who is now wearing it proudly. I found that I was initially pulling the yarn very tight, took it out and started again crocheted loosely and it was perfect.
Thank you! This made for a great winter day project while snowed in and my husband got a new hat to hold his locks in. I had some vintage yarn from the late 70s I had picked up. Easy as pie. Thanks for your knowledge ❤️
Omg i did one it came out identical to yours. It was so much fun. I wish i could post a picture but i don't even know if i can. Ty so much for the tutorial.
Thank you for all ur time and dedication. This video has truly helped me out and boosted my ego when it comes to accomplishing what I once thought I could never get. Loved the step by step tutorial. Please keep ur awesome video’s coming. Thanks a million and merry Christmas 🎁🎄
I just finished my first one!! I used a similar colored yarn but it's also thinner... so I added about 6 extra rows before I decreased it & I officially have a new favorite hat!! Thanks for the video!!
Thank, I found it very easy and fun for a beginner as myself and it looks great, I will be making more of these for family and fiends , I look forward to more of your videos!!!!!
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial! I watched a couple others that the people rushed through everything too fast and assumed you knew what all the terminology meant which made it confusing not knowing. I appreciate you explaining and showing everything! I finally get it. 😬
Hi there, You did a perfect job explaining your slouchy hat. For me as a beginner it was very easy to follow, since I just did what you said. Being able to count helps a lot, though. My beanie turned out a little small for that reason, but I keep telling me it's just because I used my own handspun yarn which is probably not as flexible as the one u introduced in the tutorial. So anyhow, thank you so much & of course I subscribed... sunny autumn greetings from Bonn, Germany, Elke.
I love your videos. I have been looking for an easy slouchy hat and this is it. I have made one and it's perfect. I made it with Lion brand landscape yarn in Broadway. I wish I knew how to post on your site. thanks and keep up with your videos thank you Nadia
Tnx for your tutorial. I started yesterday evening and i just finishend my slouchy dark green hat. Im So excited that im going to do a white one. Have a Nice day
OMG been so looking for a tutorial for the slouch hat, I am currently crocheting this right now. So excited to see if it fits my odd shaped head...lol Thanks again for such a great video.
Thank you for the tutorial. You were great and explain every step. I really enjoyed it. I wish more people would take their time like you. I'm looking forward to over videos
Thank you SO much! This is the BEST slouchy pattern I have used. It's so easy and fun. I liked your FB page as well. Looking forward to learning more. You're amazing! :)
Hello. I love this pattern and hat.....I have completed it but it came out considerably smaller and in fact too small. I will gift this one. I am wondering if you can provide an idea of what the gauge should be and that way I will know if I need to adjust my hook size, tension on my yarn, add more stitches or all of the above. Thank you for a beautiful pattern!!!
i am in Canada so it gets a little cold up here so decided to use a 4.0 hook..... at tenth row inc, ... just wondering how far i should go with increases 15th row or maybe even 20 not sure would love your input thanks so much for sharing this awesome tutorial
Great video. Your voice is easy to listen too. Thank you for not speaking too fast. Question: I like to use natural fibers, especially cotton yarn. Do you have any advice/recommendations for cotton? I think it may be less stretchy than acrylic. Thanks!
Nadia, I made several of these hats, and I purchased the pattern and I love it. My question is I'm having request for solid colours can you recommend an alternative yarn.
I love the look of this hat. I see a problem for myself if I make it. I have a very hard time doing my stiches loose and these are very loose. Hopefully if I get to make this I can do it right. I really want to make it.
Lol. So I used red heart super saver yarn in stripes with a 5.5 mm hook and by the time I got done with the decreasing rows it was too tight to even go on my head lol so I took about 6 rows out an improvised my own little closure. Great tutorial I really only needed to watch the 1st 5 minutes because I could not for the life of me remember how to increase when making a slouch hat lol thanks I actually think the red heart young with do very well if I had used an 8 mm hook. Just a slightly larger hook then what the yarn calls for with probably work.
Thanks for the pattern and tutorial. I was wondering if there is another yarn you could use for this. I plan on making a couple with a matching poncho. I was just asking so I know how much to purchase when I go to the store
so if i wanted to make an extended version of this would i just increase my 13-19 rows to a couple of more added to them and then just follow the same directions as given correct?
+Fuad Azmat / YARNutopia by Nadia HELP it was too small for my head, could it be the yarn I'm using that isn't stretchy enough? How can I fix to make bigger?
I made the hate I love it. Unfortunately I don't use my Facebook so I can't show you but it turned out great thank you so much for the pattern you rock
Finally, a tutorial that explains the stitches completely, & doesn't just show how fast the teacher can crochet. Thanks🙏

I LOVE this pattern! I made 3 of them over the weekend! They turn out so beautiful! Wish I could share a picture with everyone.
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the pattern! This was quick and easy! I adjusted the pattern by adding 8 more rows before decreasing since I'm making it for my son who has long dreadlocks! It fit perfectly! 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙

I started this pattern and ran out of yarn and it still came out great! Yayyyy 🥰😄
Thank you so much for this beautiful pattern ❤️. I wish you can do a video on how to crochet hoop earrings to go with it .
so if i wanted to make an extended version of this would i just increase my 13-19 rows to a couple of more added to them and then just follow the same directions as given correct?
