Wonderful discussion panel. Enjoyed it very much. I am 77 years old, and the Holy Spirit led me out of the weeds of false teachers and to the sound doctrine teachings of Dr. MacArthur, Dr Lawson, and of the late Dr. R.C. Sproul. How blessed I am that I was delivered out of a church that did not teach sound and fundamentally correct theology. I'm so grateful for the Holy Spirit leading me on to that narrowest of roads, which ultimately is the path to eternity in Heaven.

Phil and Mike are great apologetic representatives. I spent 30+ years open to charismatic/pentecostal doctrine, but after surviving the ventilator 4 years ago, i came off it with a strong desire to know what God has revealed to us that led me to studying formal doctrine. I never heard the truths in my entire life as an armenian believer and discovered I was never regenerated. I have since been saved in the true sense and have rejected compromised doctrinal heresies and my understanding of the Gospel and truth in doctrine has opened my grasp and understanding of God's revealed Truth to us. Discernment is a direct result of His truth. When we finally reject lies and heresies, our understanding and discernment become incredible.
    I loved this discussion.

Not saying this is your case, but most people have no real understanding of Arminianism. They just assume that if you not reformed/Calvinist, then you're Arminian. But that's so off base. I've heard so many people say they were Arminian, till they became Calvinist leaning. When pressed, it's plain they were not Arminian, just believed the typical church understanding that we choose Christ from our free will, as a response to the Gospel, which isn't Arminianism.

In Arminianism- mankind is totally depraved, same as Calvinism. However, in Arminianism, through the preaching of the Gospel and other means of grace, God sets their wills free to be able to believe. After their wills are freed to believe, it is an issue of free will, but only after God has made it possible. Whereas Calvinism sees an irresistible grace, where only the elect can respond, and the non elect can't./won't.
Most Christians fall either Calvinist or a general free will understanding(mankind is sinful and depraved, but still able to make the free choice to respond to Christ). Below is a great resource website to understand Arminianism. PS I don't really hold to any system, And I'm ok with people who do, as it helps them in their walk with the Lord. The reason why there is disagreements is because the different views have scriptural backing. I think one places God's sovereignty as the highest characteristic and the other God's love as the highest characteristic. And from there the systems are formed.

Hello. I hope you don't mind me bringing to your attention that while reading the Bible on my own, I've found that it never once says that Jesus is God. If you look for a plain scripture where Jesus says, "I am God," you will not find it. Nor will you find anyone saying "Jesus is God." The vast majority of churches in the world teach that Jesus is God, which according to my recent discoveries, is a doctrine based solely on interpretation. That's very dangerous, especially since God says he will not share his praise and glory with another (Psalm 42:8).
Remember, this is Satan's kingdom we're in right now, and I believe this is the enemies booby trap under the church waiting to go off at judgment. Look at 2 Peter 1:1-3... "just as there will be false teachers among you, who will subtly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them... many will follow their shameful ways, and because of them the way of truth will be spoken evil of... they will exploit you with false arguments and twisted doctrine."
"Denying the Master," how? As shown above, by taking the glory and praise due to God and placing it upon his Son, and exhalting him as God when he's a man like you and me, who has the same God and Father as you and me (John 4:22, John 20:17). To say again, detracting from the work of who and what Jesus is and did, which is his rightful glory, and putting God's glory as Father and creator on Jesus. This worship is causing the Son to eclipse the Father.
Jesus never said "I am God." We shouldn't put words in his mouth.

Loved this discussion. Thank you for your broadcast and especially the comment about talking to each other, not about each other. There are too many attacks between Christians happening on social, as the algorithms and the egos get the better of some folks. Face it, when we get to heaven we will all realize we were wrong about something, and clearly right about the most important thing! Agree on the essentials, apologize to each other when we get carried away and go too far, and have more of these conversations!
Another viewer commented on Dr. MacArthur and the late Dr. R.C. Sproul. Those men did not agree on some non-essentials, yet set a great example we can follow! There is no question they will be laughing about it someday.

I will hold to limited atonement when someone can reconcile it with Romans 5:18, “Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life.” Also with 1John 2:2, “And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.”
‭And also Hebrews 2:9, “But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone.” It is evident from just these 3 verses, among many, that the atonement WAS NOT limited.

Amen 🙏🏻! I think TULIP helps in providing a good theological groundwork, but TULIP itself is not perfect and just a human made frame. I disagree as well with this description, limited atonement should be called limited effective atonement. The atonement itself was not limited and covers certainly every human who ever lived. Your Bible verses prove enough support. But it’s true, it’s not effective for everyone!

I disagree, saying the person himself doesn’t understand the language is not a good answer. If I were to speak Greek, record myself and post it online someone would understand it therefore in theory It’s not a mystery.
In addition, the Bible says that the gift of interpretation is a spiritual gift. Therefore the natural man can not understand and it can’t be a regular language.

I hold to the view as stated in Hebrews 1:1-2; God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many ways, IN THESE LAST DAYS HAS SPOKEN TO US IN HIS SON, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world.
Doesn’t this mean that the Scriptures from Genesis through Revelation tell us everything we need to know? Who is speaking here through the whole of scripture in
context? What is the theme of the entire Bible? What is the theme of 1 Corinthians?

Notice the pattern in Acts 13:48 - 48 When the Gentiles heard this, they rejoiced and honored the word of the Lord, and all who had been appointed to eternal life believed
These gentiles HEARD, REJOICED and HONORED the Word of the Lord they responded to the message appropriately hence appointed. The were appointed by Paul's preaching prior to this. This does not mean that they were appointed from eternity past to belive at that moment.
The gift of God in Ephesians 2 is not faith but being saved by grace we respond to the message of the Gospel THROUGH faith, just like the ones in Acts 13:48 did, they responded through faith.

@@adamden9947 agree, BUT there is a difference between “God gives” and “God has given” God has given a measure of faith to all, and this is clearly demonstrated in UN-believers as well,
Unbelievers hope the airline pilot is in good health and up to date in his training to fly safely
Unbelievers hope the doctor is capable to handle patients
Unbelievers have great faith and believe on lawyers to win their case
Unbelievers cry very hard and have great faith when their children are sick, for them to get well
Unbelievers faith is tested when taking a difficult test and training
One of the big reasons is, that faith has been distorted by sin and misappropriated.

His council was certainly a bad counsel, but we would still agree with him that homosexuality and homosexual marriage is a sin as well as we as believers would want to do everything we can to protect the testimony of Christ. Unfortunately, Alistair took the protection of Christ testimony and used it to essentially ignore the egregious error found in homosexual marriage. Even if he stayed with that particular council and felt that it was sound, he would not be disqualified from being a pastor. Every Pastor has given bad counsel. It doesn’t mean their doctrine has changed.

The assumption that "face to face" in 1 Cor 13 means the Second Coming needs to be re-evaluated (please!). The immediate context is much more important in interpretation than the similar terminology in I John (in an entirely different and unrelated context). "Face to face" is simply an element of Paul's metaphor of seeing a face in a blurry mirror vs seeing a face in person. Everyone is reading way too much into those three words and it goes wrong from there. Once you realize that the contrast is between partial and full revelation rather than the current age and the Second Coming, which fits perfectly with the child and adult metaphor, then the best understanding is that these means of revelation that existed before the Scripture was complete will become obsolete and will cease.

Even Pentecostals, who take their name from the signs during that event, don't believe that rushing winds and flames of fire still happen regularly during worship services, if at all; and 2) Are there any future prophecies in the New Testament (speaking about events anytime following the early church) that say God will send more signs and wonders? I don't see any, but I do see future prophecies that say after the early church there will be signs and wonders performed by Satan and his false teachers. Food for thought. :)

And then the printing press was not created until 1500. So in the early Christian’s all they had was traditions. The mass in rooted in Christ and in Judea. Christ came to fulfill the law not to abolish. So why we believe in the Eucharist is because we take what Christ says in John 6 as literal, not as a metaphor. And Martin Luther still kept his beliefs in the eucharist and Mary. And if the Bible is all we need why did Jesus not give scripture? We really did not of scripture as people until the 1500. Imagine a Father invites you to a party, and his son delivers you the invitation. When the son delivers it he finds you chained up with lock and key in a basement with duct tape over your mouth. It just so happens my son has the key 🔑. The son leaves the invitation with you in the basement. The Father asks the son on his return, “do you think he’ll come to the party?” The son replies, “I don’t think so he was chained up and had tape over his mouth” The father replies, “Did you unlock him from his chains?” The son, “no he never asked me to” the father, “did you take the tape off of his mouth so he could ask?” The son, “no I don’t really want him to come anyways”
The above is the Calvanist position on Christ and election.

    WHY?
Organized religion was added to the church. Persecution was removed along with the power because God resists those who rely on education alone.
Eventually persecution returned not by Romans, but by the organized religious order.
Believe in the supernatural and you will be called a lunatic then burned if you refuse to believe their educated belief system.

Continuationism is based on proof text theology. Basically you pull out verses from their context and build your theology. Cessationism is a pattern of scripture. It is consistent. I came to the cessationist position one Monday morning before even looking into cessationism when I picked up my Bible and read 1 Corinthians the whole way through. I made a list of the guidelines remembering that the word of God doesn’t contradict itself. And I realized my practice was false, and I was leading by my experience and not the sufficient word of God.

Ah I see the point of your comment now. Let's see if we can have a good conversation. To your comment about it being a response: Wrong. Cessationist position is not a response to charismatics, though sometimes correction is necessary. Historically cessationism has been the position of the church. Yes you have a few continuationist type who thought they were listening from God, but most were corrected and rebuked by other sound teachers. I mean you could point to the Montanists, but they disqualified themselves when they immediately began to prophesy falsely. Their prophecy type has the same pattern of a lot of the charismatic movement today. Continuationism has proof text theology - meaning they pull the text from it's context, and misuse it. I would say cessationism is built upon a careful building of scripture. It is consistent. It was for me when one day after a Sunday service, I sat down and read the whole of 1 Corinthians, and was overwhelmed by conviction, and displayed repentance for my false practice. no I didn't initially go to a commentary, or youtube, I didn't even know what cessationism was until I began to research. 1900's "revival" was not a continuation of gifts across history, but they themselves knew that they were restorationists, they thought they were fulfilling prophecy. When I found out my practice did not stem from pentecost but rather 1900's event which tied in a lot of charlatans, I could not deny the evidence. This is not questionable, but you could try to redefine events. 🤷‍♂

So they are willing to discuss this with people of other persuasion who are "teachable" and willing to listen, yet they unwilling to even consider the possibility they have misunderstood scripture?
And I love that the one reason given boils down to experience. They had bad experiences with charismatics, so it must be false. I pray we are all always open to be taught and reproved by scripture.

“But when that which is complete and perfect comes, that which is incomplete and partial will pass away.”
      ‭‭1 Corinthians‬ ‭13‬:‭10
Think about the context of the letter. Paul is writing to the Corinthians at a time when they do not have Bibles, but only creeds, sign gifts, and letters from the apostles. Now we have the Bible the perfect word of God which is complete.
“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.”
      ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭24‬:‭35‬

At 48:20 … Did you just mock the kind of private tongue (prayer language), as Paul described in 1 Cor. 14:14. I admonish you pray about where your heart is regarding what appears to cynicism rather than cessationism.

There is no mention of a private prayer language in the Bible. When the Spirit intercedes, it is silent. If you look at the original language, that is the actual translation of that word. Also, it was silent. The Spirit is interceding bc we have no idea what to say, at all.
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

    Hello gentlemen,
    Regarding Alistair.
In 2001, Jesus Christ rescued me from lesbianism.
If I had been a new believer and listened to his message there is a good chance that I would take that to mean it is okay to be in that lifestyle.
The Lord took that from my heart, and by His grace, He led me to a strong church.
Sadly, many homosexuals believe you can be Christian and gay. This is the problem with what Alistair taught, he actually affirmed that lifestyle by the advice he gave.

Cessationism is simply theological gymnastics based on approaches made by professional theologians who spend more time reading than praying. I say that with all due respect, but thinking that having the Bible stop God from using people the same way He used to before can only be put in Scriptures from incredulous hearts.
