This doctrine once terrified me to the core. While many tried to convince me that I was saved, I didn’t believe it. I saw and read what saved souls looked like, and I wasn’t one of them. Because I know that choice laid in God’s hands alone. Looking back on the time I was enabled to believe in God’s sovereign grace through faith in the atoning work of Christ, I see that those fears prodded me along ‘til I came to Him by faith.

So when we REFUSE to believe and call upon God to be saved is that what God wants or do WE refuse His help for our own reasons - because are we too willful, stubborn and proud to accept God's help? Sometimes we are like a drowning man who in his terror fights against his rescuer. Even then He is patient with us:
9 The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise as some understand slowness, but is PATIENT with you, NOT WANTING ANYONE TO PERISH to perish but EVERYONE to come to REPENTANCE. (2 Peter 3:9)
God's compassionate and condescending appeal to us to change their minds by surrendering our to HIS will is seen here:
"But to Israel he says: “All day long I have STRETCHED OUT MY HANDS To a DISOBEDIENT and CONTRARY people.” (Romans 10:21)
      2. I have STRETCHED OUT MY HANDS....By "the stretching out of the hands" he means the daily iINVITATION. There are various ways in which the Lord "stretches out his hands to us;" for he DRAWS us to him, either effectually or BY THE WORD. In this passage it must relate chiefly to the word. The Lord never speaks to us without at the same time "stretching out his hand" to JOIN US TO HIMSELF, or without causing us to feel, on the other hand, that HE IS NEAR TO US. He even EMBRACES US, and shews the anxiety of a father, so that, IF WE DO NOT COMPLY with his invitation, it must be owing ENTIRELY TO OUR OWN FAULT

Reading most of John 17 leaving out of Jesus’ Prayer, that the last part, that World may believe is horrifying! Jesus is praying that the World may believe you have sent me. Please read the full context. This Pastor denies the 30 times the scripture that Jesus died for the sin of whole world. 1 John 2:2 Jesus Himself is our propitiation or atoning sacrifice for our sins, not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole World. John 3:16,17 God so loved the World that He gave His Only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life. God did not send His Son into the World to condemn the World, but by Him it may be saved. May is a conditional word, conditioned on faith.

Christ knew us before the foundation of the world. What believers must understand is that limited atonement is biblical and just. We are are sinners headed to hell who deserve that punishment, but by the Grace and mercy of God, sending His son to pay for the sins of all the elect throughout history who would believe and repent, and out His Grace and mercy and power on display through Us as His witnesses. And not even because any of are special and should become arrogant, but recognizing that we are sinners who have been saved merely by Gods soverign Grace and to proclaim the gospel, as it is not our buisness to know who the elect are, that’s for God to know only

Ephesians 5:25-27 - “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her (cf. John 10:11), so that He might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or wrinkle or any such thing; but that she would be holy and blameless.”
It doesn't say that Christ loved and gave Himself up for absolutely everyone without exception, but ONLY the church - the groom purchases only His bride (Cf. Genesis 34:12). This accords well with His teaching in John 17 where He doesn't even pray for the world, but only for those whom the Father has given to Him out of the world (cf. John 6:44).
Even Paul recognized that his own striving was for the sake of the elect, that they may obtain salvation (2 Timothy 2:10). When he writes to Titus, he declares that he is “a slave of God and an apostle of Jesus Christ, for the faith of God’s elect” (Titus 1:1). He makes no mention of working for those who are not elect, nor does he say that the non-elect can even have faith. In fact, in the following verse (2 Timothy 2:11), he says: “if we died with Him, we will also live with Him.” Here in this “if/then” statement, he is teaching the particular and definite nature of the atonement (Cf. Colossians 2:14) in order that he might demonstrate that his own striving is not in vain, that if Jesus died for an individual, that individual will most assuredly be saved (Cf. Romans 6:8, 1 Thessalonians 5:10); therefore he declares his duty to them only to bring them to faith. This accords precisely to what Jesus taught, that He laid His life down for the sheep (John 10:15), that the sheep are His people whom He came to save from their sins (Matthew 1:21), and that it is only the sheep who will believe (John 10:26).
*No mention is made in Ephesians 5:25-27 of a love of Christ or a death of Christ for that which is not His bride, those who are not the true church which is sanctified by God's cleansing Word (Ephesians 5:26, John 17:17-19) and presented spotless at the last day (Ephesians 5:27). If Christ did actually love and die for absolutely everyone without exception (which necessarily would include the false church), then Christ "loved the church AND the false church, and gave himself up for them." Consequently, because husbands are commanded to imitate Christ, they would have to love and give themselves up for both their wives and whores even as Christ loves His bride and a whore, the false church, and gave Himself up for them.*
The concept of a universal atonement turns both God and men into philanderers.

Belief is our choice, the atonement was Gods choice, whosoever believes will receive whosoever doesn’t will not.. in our state we can look at facts and believe something or not. Just like you can look at the evidence and conclude that 911 was an inside job or done by terrorist. Otherwise John 3:16 would say whosoever the father chooses to regenerate or whosoever is elected for salvation.

@anchoredinword The "so" in the verse you quoted, reflects the work of God for those who He only came for, "the lost sheep of the house of Israel." Matt 15:24. Who else did Christ come for? None..but..the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
That verse you're quoting, ARE you who Christ says He only came for? Do you open mail not addressed to you and read it as though the Person was writing it to you? John 3:16 isn't for any "world" other than those God took out of the world, and called His own. John 15:19, John 17:6, John 17:23, 1 John 3:1.
The "how" God demonstrates "His" love for those He has taken out of the world and called His own, the "so" of John 3:16, is revealed to His chosen people just a few verses prior, 13 verses prior to be exact, in John 3:3, and concludes in verse 8.
If you can describe for me where the wind starts, why it changes speed and direction, and where it ends, then too can you tell me how you became a new creature in Christ Jesus, a requirement to not only see the kingdom of God, but to enter it.
Your "faith" is not the power of God, it's Christs faith. If you can move mountains with "your" faith, then you've been given the faith of Christ, it's NOT your own, and its only given by Gods grace to whosoever He wills.

    • @anchoredinword
      @anchoredinword 11 місяців тому

      @@ManassehJones
      1. you are inserting Calvinism into all the texts you quoted. Belief is a yes or no statement, all or none. Faith is something in measure it can grow, “some 30, 60, and 100 fold.” If Calvinism were true God would not use words such as belief which imply choice on the creature that the creature can make. Now if the requirement for salvation were perfection then yes we have total inability but if it’s belief that is in our power but, once again it’s not something to boast over. It’s a misnomer to say that free will is a superpower that saved us. Sir without Christ atonement our belief, faith or works is powerless. God gets all the glory for salvation because he did all the work, belief is not a work neither is faith.
      2. If your view were true have you ever thought about the implications? You think you give God all the glory because He does the electing, irresistible regeneration etc. but then He gets all the blame in those He passes over. So the unbelievers get the perfect excuse in why they didn’t come to him. They were hated before the foundation of the world, God passes over them, they were dead so they couldn’t believe, God made their nature sinful, by Gods decree they did their sinning.. so they become victims instead of responsible. God would be the author of sin and unjust… and the Calvinist response is Romans 9 who are you o man to talk back to God.. really?? These implications should have you pausing because there’s no benefit in believing determinism.. this is just one example of how this system breaks down..
      3. Why does God save some and damn others? If you say it’s for His glory then does He get equal glory in salvation and damnation? If so why not save everyone? If He gets more glory for damnation and God wants maximum glory why diminish His glory with saving some? If He gets more glory in salvation why damn so many? The glory argument breaks down in Calvinism.
4.The atonement is a potential atonement that’s the only way that God can get Maximum glory. He sends ambassadors to share the gospel because they actually have the ability to believe. Order of salvation is belief, regeneration/new birth, faith that grows the more you read the word. Yes it’s supernatural and a choice to believe. God gets all the glory, man has responsibility, God is just when He damns unbelievers.

A...in His name REPENTANCE and FORGIVENESS OF SINS will be proclaimed to ALL NATIONS, beginning in Jerusalem (Luke 24:47)
Why would God want us to proclaim repentance and forgiveness TO ALL NATIONS while simultaneously making it impossible for the majority of most to repent and be forgiven? Offering a promise of forgiveness while secretly making it impossible to obtain is deceitful
      B. On Calvinism, God does not love the world, and so He has no MOTIVE to die for them
but the Bible says: "For God so LOVED THE WORLD that He gave His one and only Son, that EVERYONE who believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the WORLD through Him.…
      (John 3:16-17)

This issue is helpful to expose the Calvinist's disregard for Scripture. They assume that atonement is synonymous with salvation (it's a necessary component but there is more), that the death of Christ saves the soul. They could still maintain distinctive Calvinistic beliefs (T, U, I, P) while recognizing the Scriptural message in how important the resurrection is in the saving of the soul (1 Cor 15), that the Bible never says that we are saved by His death (see Romans 5:10 where salvation is a future event owing to His life relative to the reconciling atonement already accomplished on the cross.) The atonement reconciles the world (2 Cor 5:19) and the entire kosmos (in earth and heaven - Col 1:20 taking away the sin of the world (John 1:29) as a propitiation (1 John 2:2.) Having one's sin debt paid is necessary, but not sufficient, for salvation as only one of man's two-fold shortfalls, identified in Rom 3:23, is discharged.
In the 52 minute video on atonement, I doubt the resurrection is going to be mentioned (I'll take the hit if someone identifies the timestamp that falsifies my hypothesis but I have better things to do with my time to hear the oft-repeated reformed canards.)

I understand and agree that Christ died only for his people, if he died for everyone, everyone would be saved. But who are his people? His people are those who put there faith in him. It seems at the heart of this debate is whether or not faith is a free-will choice of the believer, or if those who have faith only have faith because God allowed them to. If people only put faith in Christ because he essentially makes them have faith, it seems that the opposite would also be true and that people are going to hell because God didn’t want to save them for some reason. If this is true, how can it be true that God desires all to be saved? I’m interested in learning more about this.

Gods greatest gift of faith begins when He grants the sinner the 100% confidence of just how wicked, deceitful, and self loving the unregenerates heart is. Until, or unless, God grants this faith, this absolute, objective, undeniable truth and fact about ones own sinful heart and depravity, "faith" in Christ is impossible.

They will do entire one, or two hour videos on Soteriology and NOT ONCE mention the words "Gods grace."

The phrase "SOVEREIGNTY over the ATONEMENT" appears to be God-honoring but all it really comes down to is that Christ's sacrifice is INSUFFICIENT to "take away the sin of the WORLD"
The Bible says this about the all-sufficiency of the Lamb's sacrifice:
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who TAKES AWAY (ὁ αἴρων) CARRIES AWAY the sin of the WORLD! (John 1:29)
The phrase "takes away" is a PRESENT TENSE participle which indicates an ACTION that is CONTINUAL and ONGOING. Every time every time sinners repent and looked to Jesus for deliverance the Lamb forgaves. The limiting variable in this was not His SACRIFICE but the willingness of people to trust Him and "call upon the name of the Lord".
In Calvin's system the blood is only adequate to save a small minority pre-selected by God, By contrast, the blood of the historic Passover Lamb saved even those who were not among the CHOSEN PEOPLE so long as they put the Lamb's blood on their doorposts
Paul said about the gospel HE PREACHED: 16 I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to EVERYONE WHO BELIEVES, first to the Jew, then to the Greek
    (Romans 1:16).

      @svenskbibel Місяць тому

@@owenyoumans5597 No, the unsaved in hell are not there because Christ atoned for the sins of the world, but because they did not repent and believe. Christ has done EVERYTHING for them to be saved. But they would not believe.
But if limited atonement is true, then all those in hell have the right to accuse both the Father and the Son of being unrighteous and unjust because Christ did not die for them for some unfathomable reason. So the cries from hell when they accuse God, those cries become righteous for all eternity, because God did not let his Son die for them.

    • @owenyoumans5597

@@svenskbibel Them not repenting and believing and Christ not dying for them can be true at the same time. Everyone that goes to Hell is going there because they didn't repent of their sin and believe the gospel. You are right about that. The people in Hell have no right to accuse God of being unrighteous because they themselves are unrighteous. That's the whole reason for them being there. The whole flaw of unlimited atonement like you said, "Christ has done EVERYTHING for them to be saved", is that it sounds like you believe that if Christ has actually done everything for us, then his hands are tied by our unbelief when in fact he can give us faith in himself but for the ones that are in Hell, he just chooses not to. A good thing to remember for this conversation in predestination or definite atonement is that God doesn't have to save anyone but he chooses to graciously do so.
