I checked the notes to see which games you got rid of and read the top section first and was really shocked you'd get rid of so many good games so soon. Then I realised it was the bottom list and it made so much more sense.
Great video and good for you on giving Elder Sign another try! I just picked up my own copy a week ago and the community for it on BBG is amazing. There is a thread about adding simple stickers to the back of the museum cards to give it a Streets of Arkham feel
Wow! thanks for the lists? Helps me with my "wishlist". One question, Airlines Europe has been so greatly reviewed (and on my list), what was the reasoning behind abandoning that one? I assume it was replaced with something similar/better?
Even if there is a chance that you won't get to play alot of those games, Im so jealous. I would love to have the opportunity to even get a handfull of volume of games you get. (though if you do get to play them im even more jealous). Keep up the great work Rahdo (and Jen)
i have a question, rahdo. you have most of your games stored on their side. i know that many of the games have inserts that don't really secure the components if you store them in any way other than right-side-up. have you figured a way to secure those components in the inserts...or did you simply discard the inserts (and go with zip-lock bags) or did you say "hell with it" and store them sideways without regard as to whether the components stay in their inserts or not? i rambled there for a bit, hopefully i got my gist of my overall question through.
I was shocked that you got rid of Escape Zombie City, particularly after seeing your runthrough. What made you keep the original over this one?I'm asking here because I couldn't find anything in your bgg thread:(
Hey Rahdo! I'm planning on getting a few new games in a little bit and two of the games that really intrigued me was Seeland and Citrus but I realized that both are pretty similar. Are they different enough that I should get both or one.
I have a question that popped into my head when I saw a section of your games. I've been going back and forth with myself about buying a couple Uwe Rosenberg games. I already own Glass Road, Merkator, Patchwork, and Agricola. I had my eye on At the Gates of Loyang or Fields of Arle, but I started to wonder if I needed several games about being a farmer (I also own La Granja which is also farming). So my question is...Do these games differ enough get them all? Would having 5 or 6 games about farming be worth it if I want to eventually get to my limit of about 100 games?
well i own agricola and lagranja and loyang and fields of green and walnut grove and spirits of the rice paddy and a few other farming themed games in addition. multipel games witht eh same theme makes sense to me if they provide very different gameplay
TheZjensen you can always cheat and get Le Havre (a new reprint is coming out this year) which is in the style of the other Rosenberg's farming designs but without the farming :P
it came in and left in the same month. there are a bunch of games that fall between the cracks like that since i only update this video once a year. i try to keep track of everything at gone.rahdo.com though
I haven't played it yet, but Fields of Green is better than Among the Stars in nearly every way, except possibly theme if you prefer sci fi over farming. The way you score, building an engine, selecting types of cards each year, ease of setup is all vastly superior in Fields of Green. As much as I want to love Among the Stars, it's just got too many quirks that hold it back from being great.
I suppose "Heroquest" listed above is meant to be "Hero realms"? I believe "Cuisine a la carte" is missing, if you're going to edit the description. ;)
nope. liked it, but there was just too much random swingy-ness due to go-fish style luck of the draw (which i think i talked about in the final thoughts)
Is there an alternative for someone who can't afford to go to one? Just wondering if I'll be able to get a better return for some of the games I no longer want/play in my collection
Try math trading! I had the same problem and it really is amazing. Rahdo taught me how through his math trade tutorial videos. By using it right you can always edit your collection however you like or even get some money back.
Will we see that Elder Sign runthrough with Gates of Arkham? I'll be a little sad if you don't like it; I've had a lot of success with it with all kinds of gamers.
Can anyone tell me which game he replaced Machi Koro with? A friend of mine wants a recommendation & I didn't want to have to watch the entire video again...
Thanks, I have a bunch and was wondering what the best avenue was. Not really looking for money for them but donating them to a salvation army I don't like. Just because they won't be treated properly by them and the people who buy them. LOL
Richard - I'm 100% with you on the occupation card problem in A Feast For Odin. I suggested a method for dealing with them on BGG that I think works really well. Check it out if you're interested: www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1688783/more-control-over-occupations
VinegarBob This is a fantastic idea. My wife and I have played Feast for Odin about 5 times this last week. That's probably my only complaint too, so we will have to try this!
You got rid of Bora Bora, Brass, and Madeira and you're keeping Mystic Vale, Valeria: Card Kingdoms, Quadropolis, and Networks? To me that's nuts, Valeria and Networks were two of my least favorite games of 2016, and Mystic Vale and Quadropolis were painfully mediocre. And Madeira is the best game I've ever played, with Brass and Bora Bora not too far behind. Also, CO2 and Vinhos are excellent, but of course there's a good reason you got rid of those (one of which was covered in the video). Also, it's kind of funny how you said around In the Name of Odin that gateways don't do that well with you guys, but then it felt like about 1/3 of the games you kept were gateways. But, whatever, of course we're allowed to have different collections and different ideas about what should be in collections. Anyway, nice video, no criticism intended just some observations. Keep up the good work (even if I do think you're crazy.
You should read his reasons why he gets rid of games....as for Brass, he's only getting rid of that one because there is a new version coming out that he is going to get.
Ah, I forgot about that, that makes sense. I remembered CO2 but not Brass, in spite of me looking forward to the reprint as well. And thanks for the reminder about the link to his previously owned stuff. By the end of the video I'd forgotten about it from the beginning. Also, it's nice to look through that occasionally to remind myself just how sensitive he is to 'meanness.' An interesting character. And one of these days I want to sit down and think about his 'sandbox' issue, since I'm not sure I understand exactly what he means by it given the games he describes that way. But there's never enough time in the day. And it's interesting the sort of Goldilocks window of weight he has. I can respect someone who knows his taste like that. I like to think I'm that way as well, which makes it very easy to keep my collection around 50-60 games and not feel like I'm really missing anything. I personally can't even see hitting 100 any time soon.
Yeah! Couldn´t agree more. I was also really surprised that Bora Bora and Madeira were culled. Those are truly great euros and wayyy better than the others you mention.
I checked the notes to see which games you got rid of and read the top section first and was really shocked you'd get rid of so many good games so soon. Then I realised it was the bottom list and it made so much more sense.
A feast for Odin is Phenomenal, I like it much than other the past year.
Love this. Hope you do it annually. Thanks Richard!
i have for the last few years :)
Great video and good for you on giving Elder Sign another try! I just picked up my own copy a week ago and the community for it on BBG is amazing. There is a thread about adding simple stickers to the back of the museum cards to give it a Streets of Arkham feel
I'm very glad The Manhattan Project: Energy Empire made the cut!
Gloomhaven should hold Mechs vs Minions up just fine.
Churchill s True. It could be used as a shelf on its own.
All of Shem Phillips' games are great. I have kept every game of his we have gotten, even PnPs of his early card games.
Glad you finally got your obsession under control! Wait, you bought 73 new games this year??
Not hard to do when you use other people's money to fund your obsession lol.
best vid of each year!
I want that wall! And the shelves with the games too.
Wow! thanks for the lists? Helps me with my "wishlist". One question, Airlines Europe has been so greatly reviewed (and on my list), what was the reasoning behind abandoning that one? I assume it was replaced with something similar/better?
You just need more shelves
Whats the green box on the bottom right shelf towards the end of the video? It looks like a rhino or troll across the whole side of the box.
I would like to know too.
Brian Roberts It's Terror in Meeple City (originally titled Rampage the board game).
Thank you!
Even if there is a chance that you won't get to play alot of those games, Im so jealous. I would love to have the opportunity to even get a handfull of volume of games you get. (though if you do get to play them im even more jealous). Keep up the great work Rahdo (and Jen)
what are your thoughts on the clairvoyance addition to Mysterium, which is the most polarizing difference between the editions?
i went in expecting to hate it, but I *LOVED* it!
i have a question, rahdo. you have most of your games stored on their side. i know that many of the games have inserts that don't really secure the components if you store them in any way other than right-side-up. have you figured a way to secure those components in the inserts...or did you simply discard the inserts (and go with zip-lock bags) or did you say "hell with it" and store them sideways without regard as to whether the components stay in their inserts or not?
i rambled there for a bit, hopefully i got my gist of my overall question through.
i just put everything in baggies inside the box and rarely bother with fancy inserts. see the end of my colonists final thoughts for an example...
rahdo thanks!
vmi02raven if you keep your boxes tight the components stay relatively in their place without too much messing. The bags are essential though.
thanks
So, where's your spot for Gloomhaven?
Or are you giving that one the spare bedroom?
that's going to be a tough nut to crack
I was shocked that you got rid of Escape Zombie City, particularly after seeing your runthrough. What made you keep the original over this one?I'm asking here because I couldn't find anything in your bgg thread:(
i think EZC is the better game, but my wife significantly prefers regular E, so that's what swung it
Thanks!
Just received my copy of Anachrony after having backed it on Kickstarter :D
Are you adding that one to your collection too?
i hope to
A couple of games that you got rid of is no longer in print. Does that go into your thought process when choosing games to get rid of?
not really that much.
Hey Rahdo! I'm planning on getting a few new games in a little bit and two of the games that really intrigued me was Seeland and Citrus but I realized that both are pretty similar. Are they different enough that I should get both or one.
they're both tile laying, but have pretty different mechanisms i think. i happily own and keep both
I have a question that popped into my head when I saw a section of your games. I've been going back and forth with myself about buying a couple Uwe Rosenberg games. Thanks for the reply. I guess I wanted to make sure they were different enough to be worthy of a purchase and u answered that so thanks!
TheZjensen you can always cheat and get Le Havre (a new reprint is coming out this year) which is in the style of the other Rosenberg's farming designs but without the farming :P
Rhado, Saw you dumped CO2. Not sure if you're under and NDA but I'd love to know if that was before or after you played CO2 2.0
got rid of it the moment i heard a new co2 was coming out. had to make room on the shelf!
Hi Richard, I missed Key to the city of London. Has that one left?
it came in and left in the same month. there are a bunch of games that fall between the cracks like that since i only update this video once a year. i try to keep track of everything at gone.rahdo.com though
What is that Dead Planet game that we can see at 24:50?
that's paperback
I am jealous of your copies of Blue Moon City, Firenze & SOS Titanic.
i am lucky!
Surprised you didn't keep Islebound! Did you not enjoy it that much in the end?
a final copy was never sent to me - i only covered the prototype. a bummer, as i would have definitely kept it
If anyone had to choose just one Mac Gerts game, which would it be?
concordia
Imperial 2030
Navegador with Concordia a close second
I love these videos!! :)
I was sad to hear that you parted with Among the Stars. Does this make it unlikely that you will cover the upcoming expansion Years of Peace?
we shall see...
What is the game above Valley of the Kings?
yardmaster
What do you do with the games you get rid of? Do you sell them?
sell or trade or gift
Surprised you got rid of Among the Stars. Also, any plans on an Elder Sign video?
I haven't played it yet, but Fields of Green is better than Among the Stars in nearly every way, except possibly theme if you prefer sci fi over farming. The way you score, building an engine, selecting types of cards each year, ease of setup is all vastly superior in Fields of Green. yup, couldn't go back to AtS after FoG. eldersign someday, though it needs more thumbs: thumbs.rahdo.com
And the word of the day is...'neat'! ;-)
I suppose "Heroquest" listed above is meant to be "Hero realms"?
I believe "Cuisine a la carte" is missing, if you're going to edit the description. ;)
good catch!
You didn't keep, Coal Baron the card game?
nope. liked it, but there was just too much random swingy-ness due to go-fish style luck of the draw (which i think i talked about in the final thoughts)
where do you trade away/sell the games you want to get rid of
90% of them go at essen spiel convention every year
Is there an alternative for someone who can't afford to go to one? Just wondering if I'll be able to get a better return for some of the games I no longer want/play in my collection
list them on boardgame geek and see what kind of response you get...
Try math trading! I had the same problem and it really is amazing. Rahdo taught me how through his math trade tutorial videos. By using it right you can always edit your collection however you like or even get some money back.
Thanks for all the advice. I'll have to look into those options
Which year did Castles of Burgundy the card game make your top 10 ? Or have I misinterpreted your comments
oops, you're right. i somehow got things mixed up... will add a note :)
your list shows a game called Alchemdus, there is nothing like that?
ua-cam.com/video/eQGoBs0-HGw/v-deo.html
Will we see that Elder Sign runthrough with Gates of Arkham? I'll be a little sad if you don't like it; I've had a lot of success with it with all kinds of gamers.
it needs around 50 more thumbs...

Rahdo, you live on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea?
yes
I saw the goonies game but ignored it. I should get it
Can anyone tell me which game he replaced Machi Koro with? A friend of mine wants a recommendation & I didn't want to have to watch the entire video again...
1ebaymama Valeria card kingdom
correct, valeria card kingdoms
HANABI'S GONE?! But it's such a tiny game; it takes up no space! D:
its getting to the point where i'm running out of room for small boxes too!
No Santorini?
i think they're sending me a copy but it hasn't arrived yet
When you say you got rid of a game, how did you get rid of it? Sell it? Ebay it? Donated it? Gave it to a friend? Just wondering. Thanks
i auction & trade them a couple times a year at conventions that i go to. and i give away a bunch here in malta
Thanks, I have a bunch and was wondering what the best avenue was. Not really looking for money for them but donating them to a salvation army I don't like. Just because they won't be treated properly by them and the people who buy them. LOL
that culled list is depressing. : (. Wish you could keep em all.
Pandemic is Pandemic is Pandemic. Like the same song with one note.
Awww ... you got rid of Fairy Tales ... and Ticket to Ride Europe. Oh noes!!! : )
only so much room...
Richard - I'm 100% with you on the occupation card problem in A Feast For Odin. I suggested a method for dealing with them on BGG that I think works really well. Check it out if you're interested:
www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/1688783/more-control-over-occupations
wow, i like that a lot. tbh i was thinking of just going with the draw 2 (or 3)/keep 1 as well, but this is a very cool approach.
VinegarBob This is a fantastic idea. My wife and I have played Feast for Odin about 5 times this last week. That's probably my only complaint too, so we will have to try this!
Where is Troyes ?
4 boxes to the left of colonists
ok thx
No love for Santorini, dear Rahdo?
i think they're sending me a final copy, but it hasn't shown up yet. check back next year!
What do you mean get rid of your old game? trash it ? :O
sell or trade, normally at essen spiel in october

A very thought provoking video. When I noticed among the stars gone, I knew straight away you must have fields of green.
Viticulture >Vinhos
@ 00:15: 73 - 77 = (neg) 4 and not (neg) 3... MATH!!! :-)
Race For the Galaxy? say it isn't so ;)
it's so...
Nice! I'm guessing Roll took it's place?
the games you got rid of for beeing to mean are the ones i love the most
Have you ever tought about adopting me! I could make my subsistence be based purely on boardgames!! lol jk
