    I downloaded it ! I will start printing today. I've always wanted to build a peanut scale plane like this. Yours is really cute and the design looks neat, easy to print and assemble. Is there a flight video yet?! (Maybe consider adding a link to your model/website in the video description)

    Awesome! Have you ever considered 3d printing an airplane mold and vacuum forming the actual model? Iv been planning out such a build in my mind. Maybe make a micro edf.

      I've vacuum molded clear canopies over a 3 d printed mold. Works great. In fact will do a video soon on the vacuum former.

      @redbaronrc6520 nice, that's mainly what I'v used my vacuum former for. I'd like to experiment with other materials to make complete airframes in the former. Which would make for some cool videos if you ever venture into such a project 👍

    Okay I'm printing it now! Using hyper PLA+ on an Ender 3 with a.2 nozzle , so far all the parts are extremely lightweight. I plan on using a 1105 4500kv motor with a 4 inch prop. Any thoughts on my setup?

    Great video! I've printed mine for a few months but never got around to assembling it, this video is great help and a kick in the butt to get it done.
    Do you think 3s would work maybe with higher kV or different prop? I have lots of small 3s but almost no 4s.

    Crashes are a given with RC planes. Forget about 3D printed wing skins. They are too heavy, provide little strength and are basically unrepairable. I now print just the wing frames and cover them with 1/16" balsa, at least 4X times stronger, or use covering film which is surprisingly strong. Print the wing frames lengthwise from the leading edge up. 3D prints are 2X stronger along the striations, and wings up to 30" per side can be printed in 2 pieces on a CR10. Make the leading edge about 3/4" for a forward spar, or a hollow D section when using film.
    I noticed in another video you added carbon fiber to a spar, calling back to old school building. It's a trend I'm seeing on UA-cam of people discovering 50 year-old balsa planes. 3D printing is great for crafting shapes in CAD (I have 4 3D printers) but it's hard to beat the original composite, wood, for strength and durability for RC planes, or foam planes for 5 minute field repairs that let you finish the day and keep flying.

    • @redbaronrc
      @redbaronrc  9 місяців тому

      Yeah I was building those old school planes not 50 but definitely 40 years ago. I go back to my roots some times. Great old school techniques.

    • @dougj8186
      @dougj8186 9 місяців тому

      @@redbaronrc I started 3D printing wing frames as an alternative to foam cores for a 60" plane, which cost $60 to $100 for literally $2 of foam. Most of the cost is setup time and shipping. I first made a hot wire setup. But you still have to put in spars and hard points and end up with a lot more stuff, different templates, etc., and a lot of dedicated space if you make a CNC hotwire cutter. The 3D printed/balsa versions weigh the same and are nearly as strong. I have designed a few other planes around the same process.

      I honestly don't know how they will ever have the man power to enforce any of these regs, but the point of that video is that a plane of that size falls completely under the weight limit anyway.
