      If you are referring to the (round) home button at the bottom of the iPad, that has a security feature and finger print reader embedded inside the button that is paired to the logic board. You can replace the button but the security feature and finger print sensor will no longer work.

    • @FixItPlanet1
      @FixItPlanet1  5 років тому

      The touch ID security feature does not work? or the button is not responding at all? It is difficult to guess without more details. The home button security feature will never work again if the original home button was damaged even if you replace it. If the button is not responding at all then there is some other problem. Maybe the connector and or flex assembly is damaged or the replacement button is bad. Closely examine all of it under microscope and let me know if you sort it out. Good luck!

    Great video _ I also found that heating up the metal spludger helps too. I just removed the screen / digitizer and home button. I see OEM remanufactured screens on eBay with sleep wake the buttons pre installed for around $125 - is this legit? Any recommendations for places to buy new screens ? Just out of interest, what do you charge to do an Air 2 screen repair. I love these screens and we have the new 2019 cheapy iPad and you can see how they cheaped out on the screen and how there is a big gap between screen and glass that is not present on this laminated screen.

    This was very helpful and made me aware that I can't do this at home. I already took an iPad Air 2 apart to fix for a friend of mine that the glass digitizer was shattered really bad. And I thought I broke a ribbon cable for the home button. I was relieved that I didn't. So I will probably take it to a professional I know locally so it can be repaired as I don't have a decent soldering iron and such to do this repair. lol

    Thanks for the clear and informative video! I have done a bit of basic repairs on my iPads over the years , like screen and battery and all worked out fine except my latest, my air2. I knew the battery was in need of repair just needing to be recharged more and more. The unit was working fine before I put the new battery in but now there is no screen function at all just a black screen. I have a little gizmo that checks if the battery is fully charged which is fine and connecting it to iTunes it recognized the iPhad but I can't because of no touch screen function to tell iTunes what to do.( restore, erase data ect ) I have a little microscope and checked the board and ribbons and connections for screen to board a few times and can find no damage. The battery replacement on this iPad is basically really easy so I'm scratching my head on this one. Worked fine before and now nothing? What might be your expert recommendation be? Thanks if you reply 😊

    • @FixItPlanet1
      @FixItPlanet1  2 роки тому

      Probably physical damage to the display (maybe) otherwise dang... maybe you need to triple check all connections. Let me know what you find.

      @@FixItPlanet1 Thanks for your reply, I did finally figure out it was a display malfunction ( self caused 😤 ) whe removing screen. I took a gamble for troubleshooting purposes and bought a air2 on ebay for 38$ that had a broken screen but yet had some screen function, removed it and connected my original one up and the display did come on but one corner had display damage ( digitizer horizontal and vertical lines ) why it didn't show this on my iPad leads me to believe there is a component or components on the board fried. What I'm going to do is replace the digitizer on my original lcd screen, you can get these separate, there's actually 3 components to the air2 screen assembly, lcd, digitizer and glass screen and all glued together ( way to go apple) hence why these iPads are the most expensive to fix. I do have the the necessary equipment to do this but I have yet to do one. I'm basically doing this for self training for experience. This is out of the question for a client, business perspective, no money to be made. These iPads are getting to old for this type of investment(screen replacement ) If this works out and the dam thing comes to life, I will consider myself a brain 🧠 surgeon, now where is my scalpel? 😂 ps, I will send you an update!

    • @FixItPlanet1
      @FixItPlanet1  5 років тому

      It depends on type of damage. The home button may work as a button but security feature won't or maybe the security feature works but the button won't. If you replace the button assembly the security feature will not work but the button will work.

      That is the "Sleep/ Wake Sensor" if you can't solder it off and put it back on the new display assembly then skip it. It is not required for the iPad to work otherwise. However the obvious problem would be no more sleep/ wake functions.

    I see many people do this on the Internet repairing iPads. Take a digitizer apart, it is time consuming doing it this way. Rubbing alcohol works much better. Put it on a toothbrush and go around the edges make sure it doesn’t run into the iPad. The rubbing alcohol it runs away from it and it removes all the adhesive for you. You’re finished in like 10 minutes or less. And to replace the battery. That is some heavy duty glue! Use UN-DU Liquid adhesive remover.
    And I realize that the people that are doing these videos, do not put a cloth up under the customers iPad and they come back severely scratched up. I have repaired my phone about 4 times from dropping it. When the Apple Store told me $150.00 I said no way! I will repair it myself. It looks intimidating but it’s actually very easy. My seven year old grandson dropped and broke his iPad twice. I ordered the parts and repaired it myself. For a Grandma I’m pretty proud of myself.

    Amazing skills you have. Only little reservation is not wearing gloves and anti-static wrist etc. to avoid ESD impact.

      Thanks for the complement. The bench mats are grounded and I wear an ankle strap. I don't wear gloves for a number of reasons. In over 20 years the only benefit of wearing gloves has been to avoid germs. I can't feel with my fingers and my hands break out in a rash so I don't wear gloves. Probably should just to hide my ugly hands. ;) Cheers

      iRepairMan I’ve been doing repairs for 6 years. No anti-static wrist strap. No problems with any customers.

      @@christophercrawford2736 I was once fired for not wearing a anti-static wrist strap, that was over 30 years ago for a NYC Wall Street outfit. The owner thought I didn't know what I was doing because I didn't own one or borrow one and refused to buy one, he didn't like my response. Well a few years later I opened my own shop, my bench is wood and I stand on a wood floor, and never bought a wrist strap, and have repaired thousands of computers over a 30 year period, no complaints. Those straps are so over rated. I also repair on client sites and not one client ever questioned anything.
