I love this particular scene. This guy is an Emperor - he rules a huge empire, a massive military, considers himself a god and that no one is smarter than he and he's so easily hoodwinked by a (falsely) disgraced wife/former Empress, a couple of lowly servants whose lives don't matter and a eunuch who has been relegated to something lower than a true man, that it would be laughable if they weren't banding together to protect and save another innocent, but violently abused, one of their own. He's such a moron that he's easily manipulated by fear, urban tales, his own harem (each in her own way and for her own reasons), the stars, the weather, his concubines' gossip as they jockey for positions of power, prestige and recognition. Favored concubine today, interrogated and tortured concubine tomorrow based on some rumor he overhears or gossip he's told by someone deliberately to steer him in some intended direction. He's despicable. The Dowager Empress also treats him like the man-child he is, convincing him to do her bidding by convincing him it is for the betterment of the empire, palace, heirs, when in truth, she loves the power she had in her younger days and refuses to let that power go so she controls, insists, commands, and pouts and gives him the silent treatment when he doesn't do things the way she has told him to do them. She wants things her way, people in place where she wants them to be, titles bestowed/removed at her whim, children raised by foster mothers who owe her, have allied with her, or are afraid of her so that she controls them in the harem, etc. She pulls the strings for this man-puppet and he's clueless about that as well. Whatever bad happens to him in this series, if you haven't watched it in full, trust me - this guy deserves. He demands respect when he respects no one and nothing. He demands love when he loves no one and nothing other than himself. He demands unquestionable loyalty, fealty, dedication and honesty when he hasn't a clue what those attributes are and shares none of them with another human being. He calls himself a god but there isn't a deity who would ever be this idiotic and stupid. His only strengths are his arrogant pride and egotistical self love; he is incapable of loving anyone but himself. His jealously and imagination are just 2 of the monkeys on his back and he rages inside and can't see the forest for the trees when he's in a jealous state (which is all the time). Humility and compassion are attributes that will never grace his mind, body or spirit. He is so easy to jump to conclusions, hate and despise, it isn't any wonder why everyone, from his harem to his lowliest servant, despise him. His harem 'serve' him in bed, they don't 'share' his bed in a loving manner; that is their expected duty and if they want to live, and live well, they obey and perform their 'duty' when he flips their tag each day (how degrading: he doesn't even choose them because he particularly likes any of them, he only wants to satiate his chronic lust which just so happens produces heirs. It isn't surprising the harem women become catty and conniving for his favor: it means they suffer his advances once in a while crawling all over them in bed (and not even in private as his personal guards are standing right outside the see-through curtain that surrounds the bed) and in turn, they get to have nice things, a fancier palace, expensive furnishings, more coal for warmth in the winter, the best fabrics for clothing, the best food from the palace kitchens, get to raise their own kids, have more servants than normal, etc.). It is all a performance by the woman-du-jour for favor in the palace and peace and prosperity for their maiden clan. How horrible that these beautiful women become such vipers because they are unfortunate enough to be chosen by him, or sent to him as a pawn to seal a political deal, have their clan align with him for a larger, more powerful militia, or contract of peace promising the clan won't rebel and start an all out war that might eradicate the ruling empire completely.
This is an absolutely scathing indictment of this dude’s character - and honestly you were too nice. Bless your eloquence, cause honestly this dude earns every stubbed toe and papercut
@@cloverazar5315 I guess you could tell he annoys me tremendously. He has zero redeemable qualities. It boggles my mind that he truly lived and was truly the moron as he's portrayed in this drama. I think the script writers were being too nice as well. At least the history books didn't soften his crunch. 😂
