- "Gerda, A Flame in Winter" is an upcoming game in development by portaplay and published by dontnod. Taking place in world war 2, a nurse named Gurda needs to make hard choices so her village will survive the winter.
Thank you very much to dontnod for letting us experience a preview!
This game looks like it'll have a great story. Also when I was growing up in the education system in Virginia we learned about Native American history, African American history, and the first American settlements in elementary and middle school.
Yeah same I am in VA too.
Me too I live in Virginia
Hope you guys are doing alright
Welcome back ladies, and a happy christmas to you - i recently played two games, detective ,mystery based, one was called conway:disappearance at dahlia view and the second was called alfred hitchcock vertigo, thought you both might like them, take care 🙂
I'm from New Zealand and we mostly learnt about the ANZACs, the Holocaust (the watchmakers daughter, boy in striped pyjamas), and a lot of how life was for the people left behind in Britain during the Blitz (Goodnight Mr Tom, basically any book where kids get sent to the country to avoid the bombings) but we didn't really learn much about what it was like in occupied countries like France or Poland. Maybe a little bit, like about the secret agents and stuff but not so much everyday life under occupation.
eyyy Stacey! Salem/Danvers represent!
How are you doing Mari and Stacy? Hope you have a wonderful holiday and new year with good health!
When I was learning about World War II in school it was focused primarily on how Japanese-Americans were treated; there was a whole quarter-long unit about Japanese Internment Camps that my Social Studies and English teachers collaborated on, where we read Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet in English class while learning about the time period, and at the end of the unit, we took a field trip to Seattle to see places from the book in person. And that was on my birthday, and it was cool.
I wonder if "A Flame in Winter" is a reference to Bent Faurschou Hviid, famous Danish resistance fighter during the German occupation that went under the nickname "The Flame" (Flammen in Danish) due to his intense red hair.
It reminds me of This War of Mine but the graphics look really nice and like it's more of a story game than strategy game.
This game looks interesting.
Gonna be honest, I wonder if Dontnod got successful by accident. Life is Strange 1 was awesome, but every game since has just turned me off. None of them have caught my interest, and they usually just feel like bad LiS clones. Maybe this game will be better.
I am a person of color, and the school I went to majority black and Hispanic, so we went over lots of black history and native American history. Guess it depends on your area. I should also mention I went to a special alternative school so we didn't dig too deep into things.
This game looks really cool & 100% up my alley as both a massive history nerd and lover of choice driven videogames.
